I don't care, it's a part of the human body. What is the big deal. { Mod Edit }
So if I gave you the middle finger, you wouldn't care? It's just a part of the human body. What's the big deal, right?
Oh wait, could it be that some things have meanings beyond themselves? The middle finger is a symbol and I doubt you'd like it. Penises are the male sex organ, so it's obviously a symbol for sex, and people take offense to that. Maybe not you, but many people.
Isn't it amazing that there are people who think differently than you in the world?
A penis or vagina is not a symbol for sex, it's not a symbol to be embarresed for.
It's a part of the body, just like your arm, your leg, your head and your torso is.
It does not represent "sex", it does not represent emotions. You make that out of it.
It's just flesh and blood. That's it. Get a grip.
It can be shown in any medical facility and any decent university and no one goes "oooh....a penis"..what the hell is wrong with people.
Oh okay, right. Whatever you say, my point completely missed you because here you are, trying to convince everyone that you're right. Did you even read the last sentence? Yes, people attribute meanings to different things - THAT MAKES THEM SYMBOLS. Do you? No. Does society? Yes. And that means your opinion is like an annoying little bug buzzing around someone's head until you become the majority. Sorry.
I'm sure you loved getting flipped off. It's alright, it's just a middle finger.
The thing is that the meaning people choose to see in things is subjective. That is, its their choice to see those things, and why should I have what I see or hear disrupted because someone else chooses to find something offensive? Getting flipped off? Yeah I'd get upset, when I was twelve. Now I wouldn't think twice. I'm supposed to get upset because someone wags a finger at me? Ridiculous.
Bottom line, you're right, some people do view things in a certain way. However I feel that those people who CHOOSE to invest something meaningless on its own with meaning shouldn't then be able to call the shots as if the subjecmeaning they've chosen to give is actually an objective meaning that everyone should feel the same about. Don't like genitalia? Then its your responsibility to avoid seeing them, it shouldn't be society's responsibility to make sure you don't see any.
Heh, I'm known for long winded auguments in the forums, auguments that I rarely lose. I only come back to these forums when someone says something so idiotic, when thier so secure in thier, that they deserve to be put down like a sick dog.
Brutalis you have gained that honour today. Are you honestly going to tell me that you have not watched a movie where nudity was tastfully incorporated into the story, or a comedy where nudity was included as a punch line, and you were not disgusted by it? I don't walk into a public shower blanching at the full blown male nudity. I agree that are areas where showing someone nude is inappropiate and may offend some. But the topic of discussion is wether or not "penis's should be allowed in our mmo's" Video games are another form of entertainment, just like movies, or books. As long as it is properly labeled, if the game has a rating of M, and it lists sexual content, and if that offends you. Then do a little more research as to the content of the game. As to your middle finger refernce, symbols and gestures have certain meanings behind them because we allow them to. We give them that power. I have never been offended by the finger. Fuck you? Not really offensive, technically fuck is synonimous with sex or screw.
Oh yea, I strayed off topic then I suppose. I was trying to imply that people give objects symbols. That much is true. There is no other meaning if we don't give it that. If that's all waterlily and others were arguing, okay, they're right. If they're arguing that it's no big deal, that's wrong. Why? Because society dictates that. Maybe not for long though, with the way things are going.

First of all, a penis and vagina are not really "beautiful" things imo. I'd rather not see either in a video game, hell I'd rather not look at anything naked, but Id rather them NOT censor it out with the "blurs" and "black boxes" because you still know its there, so why not just show it to you to fully immerse you into the video game? It is just a body part, but it is symbolic to most people. As for me, Id rather not see them, but I can live with it and wont whine/bitch about it on forums or to the news or gaming companys.

Ok I see what you are getting at.
As, you say, hopefully not for long. I really don't see why we should be ashamed of being born naked because some religious sectarian gurus in their times wanted to control our minds (this also is fortunately changing fast. People are still sheep, but they are opening their eyes with their newly found freedoms).

Not very practical, you'd need a new label every time you had a wash.

I'm with Lily on this...what is the big deal? I can see some guys going omg...i'm not a homo why is this in thegame..but for us females...yea baby! lol
Oh, so the girls have no problems with a penis in the game. Imagine that.
Teala sounds a little bit like a female Austin Powers. I think she just looks at men as sex objects. iti's degrading Teala. You should be ashamed of yourself! j/k
Well, it's true a penis isn't equivalent to boobs, but there is no male sexual equivalent to boobs since guys only have one sex organ, the penis, where as women have two, a vagina and breasts. you know what I mean, so dont' argue technicalities. Men only have to cover up one thing, their penis, women have to cover up two things, their vagina and their breasts. At least in video games.
I don't know, I guess turn about is fair play. If all the games can have girls in tiny bikini armor showing off T and A for the guys, it's only fair if there's a penis in there once and a while.

Its society's place to say whether those individuals can or not. I prefer society not to. I don't think the bar for whats acceptable should be set by the most sensitive. If I was playing Big Penis Online, I'd expect to see big penises in my MMORPG. They'd be grinding, leveling up, decked out in loot that came from random drops, etc. I'd probably dual box, so I could be as happy as a man with two Big Penises Online.
However, if I was playing Hello Kitty Online, big penises probably shouldn't make an appearance.

As explained earlier in the thread, getting naked would be considered a gesture too, wouldn't it? Taking off your pants and raising your middle finger up are both actions. So the comparison is valid, it's all about the meaning society gives to these actions. Society equals the majority who dictate whether it's acceptable or not. According to my logic, all old Greek nude statues are art and are accepted by the society. Next argument please.
It depends. If I was playing Big Penis Online, I'd expect to see big penises in my MMORPG. Lol, touché. "Big Penises Online" would be a great way to let people know what exactly is in your game.
Well, to be honest, though I don't want to see a penis anywhere (except maybe on me), if it fit the story then I have no problem with it.
As long as the game is rated appropriately so that parents can make decisions, if it makes sense for someone to be naked in a game then it makes sense.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
FYI Hinduism is a religious. Shiva is the God of life and death, the Phallus is on of his symbols. This is what you can see in many places and countries like for example in this picture in Thailand (which is primarily a Buddhist country, but there also many Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus and others)
To each his beliefs and customs, nothing to be offended about.
Imho this just shows how wrong we are, but this each his own...
I suppose the question I have is: Why do they feel the need to have a penis in their game? Is it somehow contributing to the story? Is it art? Or is it just a way of causing sensationalism? Personally I have no interest is seeing it, I'm not saying that it's wrong, but I do wonder what's next? We all know that most stores don't check ID's when selling M rated games, so would you want your son or daughter playing a game and then suddenly getting slapped in the face by a big bloated cock? It's not my sexuality that is threatened by it, but I for one don't see the need for it, and I think that it is setting a bad precident for the future. We're straining the boundries of morality here and the people that came before us made these boundries for a reason, not because they were ignorant, but because they knew that once Pandora's box has been opened it's damn near impossible to close it again.

A middle finger is just a body part. Flipping someone the bird is symbolic. A dick is just a dick, if I start waving it at you and gesturing that's symbolic.
Which is what waterlily doesn't seem to get. However, you don't even have to start waving a dick around and gesturing for it to be symbolic, mainly because of religious influence in today's society. Just the way things are. It's something to be ashamed of because it represents sin (whether you believe it or not, I don't care.)
When my middle finger is part of a fist, it's just a body part. When I lift it, and only it, up to your face, that's the symbol. My penis under my pants, fine, it's just another body part. When I take my pants off where people can see me, that's the symbol.
Of course, all people in the showers at gyms are nude because they want to have sex Or at a nude beach.
It depends. Context is everything.

And because they will have penises in the game, its no problem. Otherwise they wouldent have put them in it.
its just a penis =3
if he starts playing with it and shaking it about then its diturbing
but apart from that its just a penis

As long as it's properly labeled and easy to avoid, then people who don't like it can avoid it. But that would imply that it's wrong to at least some people, and you're right. That's my point. If society starts accepting it as okay and starts shoving it in my face, or incorporating it into almost every form of media, is that right?
First of all, a penis and vagina are not really "beautiful" things imo. I'd rather not see either in a video game, hell I'd rather not look at anything naked, but Id rather them NOT censor it out with the "blurs" and "black boxes" because you still know its there, so why not just show it to you to fully immerse you into the video game? It is just a body part, but it is symbolic to most people. As for me, Id rather not see them, but I can live with it and wont whine/bitch about it on forums or to the news or gaming companys.
Currently restarting World of Warcraft
Ok I see what you are getting at.
As, you say, hopefully not for long. I really don't see why we should be ashamed of being born naked because some religious sectarian gurus in their times wanted to control our minds (this also is fortunately changing fast. People are still sheep, but they are opening their eyes with their newly found freedoms).
Do I want to see a big penis? Not particularly. But if a dev put one in a game I'm playing I don't want someone else telling me I can't see it.

Not very practical, you'd need a new label every time you had a wash.
lol you watch...this thread will be like...a mega thread...all about man bits! LMAO!
So if I gave you the middle finger, you wouldn't care? It's just a part of the human body. What's the big deal, right?

Problem with your argument is you're mixing up individuals with society. Its not society that would be shoving it into your face, it would be individuals. Its society's place to say whether those individuals can or not. I prefer society not to. I don't think the bar for whats acceptable should be set by the most sensitive. I consider people who take objects with no meaning in and of themselves and then ascribe meaning and then have strong emotional reactions to the meanings THEY'VE ascribed to be immature or crazy and frank I could care less how these people feel. Unfortunately for me, these type of people are the vase majority.

I agree with Waterlily. I get tired of the hypocrisy too if it comes to nudity.

So if I gave you the middle finger, you wouldn't care? It's just a part of the human body. What's the big deal, right?

In which case society would have to make it acceptable, otherwise it wouldn't be accepted. That's what I meant. Yes, you are the minority. I don't care how you feel, either, if that makes you feel any better.
Explain how buying mature game GTA IV then getting the dlc and playing it equals having it shoved in your face?
Those symbols only excist in your head btw.
Bottom line If there would be penises in mmorpg -
they better put penis customization , at least like in COX .
