Ya, I was being a little hostile in this thread because you guys just started calling people nerds and retards. I really haven't been all that hostile, you are just exaggerating.
I don't go to the actual TOR forums because it's not a place for discussion, it's a place where really only those who support the game no matter what.
I actually played KOTOR (one of my favorite single player games) before SWG (one of my favorite MMOs), but I always thought that they would have to change KOTOR a lot to be an actual MMO.

So what you're captain planet or something? I don't go to the actual TOR forums because it's not a place for discussion, it's a place where really only those who support the game no matter what. Exactly why you are so misinformed about the game. And no, a lot more people there talk about what they would love to see an what they don't want to see. But they are being realistic. At least the ones that don't mention SWG in every sentence. Understanding that BioWare and Sony Online Entertainment is not the same company is key to having a valid opinion on SWtor. I actually played KOTOR (one of my favorite single player games) before SWG (one of my favorite MMOs), but I always thought that they would have to change KOTOR a lot to be an actual MMO. Hey no doubt, change always takes place in any game when it's being changed into a new MMO. I think SWtor will do pretty good here. Blizzard took a RTS to a WASD RPG as I call it. I have confidence BioWare will pull this off. It's not much of a jump. I think most of you look at Star Wars and says "hey it has to be like this or it is not Star Wars" while I can understand those feelings, it is not entirely true. Star Wars Is many different things. People think the movie screams sandbox, but in reality the Star Wars movies was nothing but a guided path focused on a handfull of people. Sure there was popular characters who didn't make it far. Take Greedo for instance. His story was never explained. He was seen as a child in episode 1 and was killed in episode 4. Nothing has changed. Everybody is just comparing SWG and SWtor and forgeting it's a new era, a new playstyle, and new companies.

Well, WoW is pretty much Diablo 3...so it wasn't really that miraculous of a shift. You seem to agree that the game needs to be changed to actually be an MMO. You see, my concern is that they really haven't done that. I know a lot of people say, "not enough info...just speculation," but they have said more than enough to know that the game really ends when the story ends.
I don't want this game to fail....I think Star Wars is the ultimate IP for an MMO. As I see it now though, they aren't really doing the whole "MMO" portion of it. Also, SW is great because it is so epic, not because it is so confined (i.e. Luke Skywalker Online). I really do hope this game is good, and it would be a shame to see this game take the form of the other post-WoW MMOs.

Well, WoW is pretty much Diablo 3...so it wasn't really that miraculous of a shift. Diablo is a different IP. That would be taking a dungeon crawler to practically the same thing. Warcraft was an RTS i fail to see the comparison. Bad logic? You seem to agree that the game needs to be changed to actually be an MMO. You see, my concern is that they really haven't done that. All games change in a major way when being transformed into a MMO. I know a lot of people say, "not enough info...just speculation," but they have said more than enough to know that the game really ends when the story ends. Thats because it is speculation, and no they have said enough for you to speculate. I have listened to BioWares Q&A and they are very hush hush on whats taking place. Most of the info released you dont "know" you are just speculating you know. If we have learned anything from MMOs, is that one thing said today could be changed tomorrow. And with little info we have you can yet pass fair judgement. I don't want this game to fail....I think Star Wars is the ultimate IP for an MMO. I agree. As I see it now though, they aren't really doing the whole "MMO" portion of it. Well considering you know mostly everything about this game. What exactly are they not doing correctly? Also, SW is great because it is so epic, not because it is so confined (i.e. Luke Skywalker Online). If thats how you feel then this game may not for you. But you already know the outcome of the game. You dont speculate. I really do hope this game is good, and it would be a shame to see this game take the form of the other post-WoW MMOs. Yeah, just another SWG right?

Look, no matter how much you pretend not to know about the game, it doesn't change the fact that the game is what it is. Does it not trouble you that they have only talked about story, whereas every other MMO that has ever come out has had a list of features that make it an MMO? I'm not even trying to talk about a "feature list". I'm talking about the fundamental experience of the game. BioWare is intent upon a story driven game. Having a massive amount of people interact in meaningful ways in a game environment is not what is at core in this game.
Yes, SWG applies, but notice how YOU brought it up. I was mainly referring to AoC, WAR, etc. I really do feel like WoW has completely exhausted that style of gameplay.
One major difference in our viewpoints is that you seem to think this game does not fall under the shadow of WoW. I don't really know why you would think that. So far, it is basically: KotOR, but when you beat it kind of like WoW.
Maybe it would be best to just say that I'll never understand why an MMO fan would be so excited by this game, and that person would never understand why this sort of title worries me....but then where would be all the fun? (aside from the occasional name-calling)
I do have some questions for you though:
Do you think that the heart of the MMO is the community?
Do you believe this title is encouraging community building?

Does it not trouble you that they have only talked about story, whereas every other MMO that has ever come out has had a list of features that make it an MMO? It's not out. Features? 16 planets, slowly being reveled, like Ord Mantell. Multiple classes, which we know of 3 ( this is a clear sign that they are releasing info slowly). Mutliple Races (bounty hunter was actually leaked a few months ago, and in the same blog Mandalorian and Wookie was said to be in the game). Many different mobs (acklay, chemlizard etc.). Then their is stuff for you to speculate on. Look at the Avoidance screenshot, is this a sign of a Pose or a Cover system (would be unique as hell)? As you can see above this is not all the released info, there is more you just have to search. Truthfully you can't mix all this in and say it will be like WoW. Most MMOs have multiple races, classes, and mobs. Which is what makes this game a WoW in your eyes. I'm not even trying to talk about a "feature list". I'm talking about the fundamental experience of the game. BioWare is intent upon a story driven game. Having a massive amount of people interact in meaningful ways in a game environment is not what is at core in this game. Well I gave you a list of features above since you said where is the list of features. But anyways. You already answered part of the fundamental experience, as they have said Story Telling will be an essential component(green highlight). As for your yellow highlight, what makes you so sure? You absolutly certain the game is soloable, that nobody will cross paths it will just be a single player game with a MMO label? You would have to be brain dead. You don't even have a clue what will be happening and nor do I. I do know they would not risk something as stupid as this and place the BioWare name at risk of being labeled a failure. Yes, SWG applies, but notice how YOU brought it up. I was mainly referring to AoC, WAR, etc. I really do feel like WoW has completely exhausted that style of gameplay. I said SWG because I figured you was thinking it like the other people shouting for change. I mean my god you people sound like you got lost from your Obama rally. One major difference in our viewpoints is that you seem to think this game does not fall under the shadow of WoW. I don't really know why you would think that. So far, it is basically: KotOR, but when you beat it kind of like WoW. You are just one of those people that always look at the bad, never to consider the good. You want something bad to happen for some crazy reason. You are asking me why I think it does not shadow WoW, with out leaving a reason as to why you think it will follow WoW. Your best explination is "when you beat it, like WoW". I played WoW from open beta up until a few months ago. Their was really no ending, the game was always expanding. It was up to you to find where to go when you level capped. Get gear, PvP, join a good guild, start leveling up crafting skills, help friends, pretty much anything. Really it boils down to you not liking WoW. And being afraid this game will fall into the same catagory. I really think SWtor will have many unique features and take older ones only to enhance them. Not to mention they are using the heroengine. Maybe it would be best to just say that I'll never understand why an MMO fan would be so excited by this game, and that person would never understand why this sort of title worries me....but then where would be all the fun? (aside from the occasional name-calling) My reasons for being excited is me enjoying the Old republic era more then the days of the Empire and Rebellion. No I dont plan on playing jedi, so no I dont wanna hear a "swoosh voosh" from you. I think we understand, so far this game is not for you, as simple as that. Everybody needs the occasional name calling throw in, it is the internet after all. I do have some questions for you though: Do you think that the heart of the MMO is the community? I think this question would be more so of an Opinion. Some believe it to be gameplay, like combat. Or some are up for the eye candy, like AoC, some even think the music makes the game. But my feelings for a MMO to be succesfull is to have a good balance of everything. Communication between players, a good game interface, great combat, PvP and PvE. Actually I won't even play a game without PvP, so this is my favorite feature I guess. Graphics are the least of my concerns. But to answer your question directly, yes I believe the community is the heart. Do you believe this title is encouraging community building? Have you ever noticed how most BioWare titles are party adventure games? Kotor, Buldurs game, Neverwinter Nights. To think they won't have players doing grouping (which helps community building) is silly. Crafting, PvP, PvE, even story telling helps a community build. Again you are so dead set on this game being bad, empty and barron with NO communication, it has blinded you. So yes I DO think this title encourages community building. And what I listed is not even the half of it.
It amazes me how many people brought up the idea of "intelligence test" to determine who is fit to play games and who isnt. Intelligence does not = educated. And being educated and intelligence does not = nice person. And being nice, intelligent and educated does not = good video game player.
Stupid people piss me off as well. But not as much as the ultra eltist cliqiush snobs that play on most mmorpg RP servers. I would rather chill out with a bunch of inbred rednecks like from the Hills Have Eyes than spend more than 10 seconds around tards that insist that I say "My Lady" to guys playing female characters on an internet game. But thats just me.

OP, you are asking that question on this forum! This is why we have guilds for people you like and ignore lists for people you don't. Hoestly, there's real things to worry about in the world. This so isn't one of them.

I've never understood why some people worry about what others do in game. As long as they aren't bothering others then it's nobody's business who or what they are.
