You are correct that makes it a bit retarded to offer transfers after 3 months in a sandbox game, sure you will have your skills but since well the only content that is implemented in DFO is the city hamlets, any player transfering after the 3 months will be paying more money (refer back to my original post) and will virtually be starting from scratch since you cant transfer items.
you have some points however I am having a hard time understanding what that has to do with a "sandbox" game though
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Now they are requiring NA users who wish to play on the NA account at launch to purchase the client they've been distributing freely for 4 months.
WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!!
LOLOL... hay man... i'm just gonna put my hand in your wallet kk? don't worry it's ok... kk? my name is Tasos and i work for Aventurine... you can trust me kk?
when you buy a game... you get the CLIENT ***********AND********** the ACCOUNT in ONE PACKAGE... regardless of how you get the client (downloaded or bought in a store)... so when YOU bought YOUR *****ACCOUNT*****... you paid for that account ANNND the client... you didn't get anything free... your IQ must be like... -1000 or something...
and based on how YOU described the situation... so basicly what they are doing is... pay $___ for the account... then pay $___ for the client... then pay $___ for the EU - NA transfer... ADD THAT UP...
***********EITHER WAY************* YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED... scratch that... your IQ must be NEGATIVE ONE TRILLION!!!
Actually you did not purchase the client and account in one package, technically you purchased the right to connect to the companies servers this is for any MMO really, the client of MMOs is free and not sold because well you cant use it on its own.

To put it simple:
Theme park style MMO:
- Your actions rarely impact the world, save a few events that can happen server wide, if your guild transfers to an estabilished server ( and im gonna use WoW as an example because everyone will pretty much understand) you can still go and raid the end game regardless of what the other guilds are doing , your progress is not tied to the progress of the server, if you were doing very well on your previous server you can still do well on your new server.
Sandbox style MMO:
- The content is created by the players and that usually involves some sort of territorial control, either by a game mechanic or just by guilds estabilishing themselves in certain areas of interest, resources are usually finite and a single pool of resources must be shared by the whole server, transfering to this new server, you will have to start from scratch if a guild owns a city in the place you had yours you cant just build yours on top, the resources you used to control are now in the hands of another guild that probably has the man power and resources to make sure you wont touch them for a while. You have no allies and no influence on the server.
It's always nice to see players agree with bait and switch practices.
I've made comments before about the tolerance of DF fans for less than stellar treatment at the hands of the DF devs, that is why I've stated in several threads that it's a wise financial move for DF to charge full-price for the transfers - the fans will accept this and DF will have more cash.
The game devs know their fans well, and they should capitalize on that knowledge.
This is just an observation, so all you remaining DF fans don't blow a fuse by me saying this - take it in the spirit that it's meant.

Not sure what the out-come of a bait-and-switch class action lawsuit would be, but I think there would be a few lawyers that would take the case.
Back in Feb. when it launched the web site said that players could have one character PER SERVER. Shortly before the announcement of the NA server they changed that to read one character PER ACCOUNT.
Thats how all games work, mate. You can't make a Warhammer character in USA with a EU account. You are mixing two different things here: gameplay... one character per server.. to stop people from doing EVE spy works. And a accounting thing: You need a USA account to play in a usa server, and a EU acount to play on a eu server. Easy for you: USA: you can make ONE character per server. EU: you can make ONE character per server. You can't play the game on one territory on the other. So you can't use your EU account to play in USA, you need a USA account to play in USA for legal reasons. Like in *all* other games. Other than that, I think these legal reasons are crap. I hate that I can't play in USA with my EU client in tons of games. How is that different to any other game?
It's a smart move for them to charge again, most of the player base will complain but in the end they'll still pay.....and AV could use the cash influx. Smart business move on their part, for sure.

God i ll say it again. They said buy the EU version, and when the NA server releases you can transfer. Nowhere did it mention a cost. It s misleading no matter how you look at it. The funniest part is your char is transfer/cloned whatever it is, but your items aren . This is a joke within a joke.

Can you point me to where they said this? People mince words so much and I would like to read it from the devs themselves.
This is a scam, plain and simple. Tacos seems to forget that the wayback machine shows everything about this shoddy company back to 2001. You can spin anyway you want but the facts are still out there for anyone that cares to take the time to look.
As to the transfer of data between servers...newsflash for the morons out there.... the servers are hosted by the same company on the same infrastructure so transfer of data would be trivial and due to the sub 15K number of subs probably take very few minutes.
This makes Deceit-n-lie look like a poor attempt at scamming customers. This has to be the piece-de-resistance to date.
BTW there are NO legal reasons why they can't allow transfers between markets. NONE, NADA, ZIP. If you can provide me with a citation from a case where it was decided that you can't sell between markets / transfer data between markets then I will retract my statement, but I don't expect any of you to provide that citation.
Anyone that works for a multi-national corp knows that data and products cross market lines all the time. The only real restrictions are defense and intelligence related.

...this gives people who start a brand new character on the NA1 to catch up to the people who will be transfering over to NA1 in 3 months.
Makes sense to me.
Sidenote: I purchased a Chinese Aion account so I could test out the game and see if it was anything special. I do not expect NCSOFT to give me an American account for free. Nor do I expect them to transfer my characters to any NA server from the Chinese ones....
...just food for thought

Money grab. Another accurate term to describe what Aventurine is doing, again. The first being the blatantly active and misleading pitch to North American players to lure them to the EU server and plunk down @ $50 for an account while telling them that they "will" accommodate character transfers once their server is available.
As many were wise to their shifty conduct over time, most, if not everyone that subscribed, didn't know it was a ruse to get immediate cash to fund the operation for the EU server and that what was not being revealed is that they (Aventurine) knew all along that they would bait the North American base into purchasing an account once, then reveal immediately before they let live that second server for NA, that those same players will have to re-purchase an account to play on what they lead them to believe would be just a 'transfer'. Don't think for a moment that the 'Transfer Fee' wont be any more discouraging.

They may be ahead in skills depending on the "Restrictions" that Aventurine will be doing. But just having your starter weapon and nothing else and have to grind resources/mobs all over again to get money/gear will sure be fun.
The only ones that will benefit are those that have clan mates that are starting fresh on NA. For those that don't have clan mates starting fresh, is it really worth the price to transfer with nothing but your starter weapon?
I do like how Aventurine is going to cover their butts by making a new web page and the "Free Expansion" which will probably be the missing content that Tasos said was feature complete before EU1 opened.

As it stands now there is only one server, so there is only one character per account. Once additional servers open, you will be able to create a new character on a new server.
------
Players in North America are welcome to participate in the European Launch. The plans for US servers aren’t finalized at the time of this announcement. We will offer the option for character migration to US servers for N. American players who wish to use it. We have had people playing without problem from all over the US and Canada. That being said, our servers are located in Germany and distance does affect ping-time. - Tasos
------
Our first release is the European release. The North American release will follow as soon as possible but not until a few months later. We’re allowing players from N. America to participate in the European release due to this fact. Of course we’ll make some allowances for these players if they would like to move to the US server when it launches. - Tasos
------
They're right after the European servers, but not soon enough for a lot of players to wait. We don't have a solid date to announce on a N. American server and that's why we're allowing N. American players the option to play on the European server. Ideally we would have loved to be able to launch world-wide but we just don't have the resources to do it right. - Tasos
------
Athens, Greece – December 5th, 2008 - Audio Visual Enterprises SA and Aventurine SA in a joint statement today announced that their highly anticipated MMORPG title Darkfall Online will launch across Europe on January 22nd, 2009. North American players are also welcome to participate in the European launch of Darkfall which will precede a North American launch.
------
So, let me turn this around on you... Where is the very important piece of information about transfer delays, fees, and client rebuy if starting on NA launch day? Don't you realize if that very important piece of information was stated beforehand, many of us NA players would not have started until the NA launch? I'm willing to bet that Tasos knew, which in my opinion, is why he conveniently failed to mention it. $$$. You asked for implied text or hints. I'm sure you'll spin it in some way to fit your gripe.
Ok, let’s add this up a little and see what we are in for. Four years of promising a game that lacks many elements promised, followed by a …different kind of launch classified by some as Top Secret, a shift from what was promised to a more…self administered “hard core” style of play. Game site reviews are…spread to 2 sides of a pendulum with a mid-level players rating on this site. Macro’s and Hacks and bears (OH MY) on the EU server with debates about game coding smeared all over youtube. Then a “you can switch to the NA server” advertisement is put out, lacking any mention of charge to old and prospective players.
NO, do not tell me this is similar to other game practices.
NO, do not tell me that the company is new/small/inexperienced and had no idea prior to the NA announcement that there would be a cost to the player.
And NO, do not tell me that the server will be different and more advanced than the EU server.

Yep you are correct. People are so blind to this fact. Flat out liar.
You didn't purchase a client.
The client was free.
You purchased an account.

They said in the begining pay for EU client , when NA server comes u will be fgiven chance to transfer there but never mentioned anything about fee

- Tasos

Our first release is the European release. The North American release will follow as soon as possible but not until a few months later. We’re allowing players from N. America to participate in the European release due to this fact. Of course we’ll make some allowances for these players if they would like to move to the US server when it launches. - Tasos

They're right after the European servers, but not soon enough for a lot of players to wait. We don't have a solid date to announce on a N. American server and that's why we're allowing N. American players the option to play on the European server. Ideally we would have loved to be able to launch world-wide but we just don't have the resources to do it right. - Tasos

I'm sure you'll spin it in some way to fit your gripe.

the Aion devs aren't LYING TO YOU to get you to buy the game now, are they??
