how can you take that review seriously with a statement like this: "Because of the relatively short amount of time I've had with Aion, and, to be honest, a general apathy toward playing any further, I've not yet experienced the so-called "PvPvE"
I actually get what the reviewer is referring to. For some people (myself included), it just wasn't worth going through 25 levels to get to the so called 'meat' of the game when the beginning was boring. When you're playing the game and the only reason you're still trudging through is because everyone says it gets better, that can't be very fun.
Sorry but I wouldn't expect a review like that say on gamespot, a review that the OP linked would be normal if it was posted here or some similar site.
The gms/moderator here did a better review of aion then ign and for me it's not a site as popular as gamespot, ecc.
i got to agree here they tend to stay more neutral and sometime gamer see both side of the fence
but hel 1up acting like that
have they figured out that mmorpg style is more popular and decided to change
Well 25+ you get to do instances too, im lvl 36 and enjoy it to the max still:D 1 reason, cause it's not easy like WoW
How so?
Please, someone, for the love of <whatever>, tell me how Aion is harder than WoW.
Seriously, come on. What, because some opposite-colored little angels might come floaty-gliding in and attack you at random intervals...or what? Or is it harder because you have to gather more worthless shit? Harder because you have to grind more mobs?
What is hard about any of that? The game is on rails, tells you basically go here, here or here, leads you to quest mobs via the quest log, has built-in coordinates so you know exactly where to go, has a laughable combo system that practically does all the work for you, has an auto-follow thing that even runs up to the target...explain how any of that is any harder than what you get in WoW?

You re right it s not. It s the, as many threads have been popping up have been saying, it s boring. That alone makes it feel harder and grindier then WOW.
You get a very good blue item at the end of that quest. If you want every decent item gift wrapped into your lap like WoW you probably wont like Aion.
Yeah, because running around in a big circle killing the same mobs, grinding the same item is just oh-so-much more hardcore and different than grinding out honor in a BG...amiright?
Actually you fail because if that's your summary of Aion then you obviously don't play the game. Spend some time in the Abyss and you'll understand what makes it oh-so-much more hardcore than some ridiculous BG.
Your right, I don't play Aion. I haven't played it since about a week after release, when I saw 1.) the game was garbage, and 2.) the people playing it were basically all the 14-year old Naruto-loving retards from WoW, all penned up in one game.
No thanks.

Just this one line from the last paragraph says it all about this reviewer: then what hope is there for your average World of Warcraft subscriber.
If he wanted to be taken with any seriousness then he shouldn't have added that line.
It just goes to show how lazy some have become these's days.
I think with any MMO these days, it's success is based on how many subscribers it can get. In order to compete with WoW (if that's the intent and I think all these games are trying to do that in some form), you need to draw some of it's playerbase away from WoW and into your game. A developer sees that 3.5 million number of NA subscribers and wants some of that pie.
mm all server in all area of the world are all full,ALL BUT AMERICA.but then scsoft isnt probably surprised since america
only play american made game ,the one gamer that go to other country mmo count prob for a total of 10% of the whole gaming comunity in america and most of those 10 % are from canada i bet most game made outside america could just release in canada and not bother with usa and it would have the number aion is getting the whole america

There is no difficulty in any MMO released to date. A 'hardcore' person equates to someone who spends too much time playing a game.
A question for you Mr. Eben, why are you even here? All you do is troll the Aion boards day in and day out. Do you stalk an ex-girlfriend and trash her in front of everyone that cares to listen because you feel she wronged you? I am pretty sure if you were to talk to a head shrink they would tell you this kind of obsessiveness is not healthy. However, carry on, the longer you troll the fewer people will take any credence in what you say.

Well, I just saw this thread and the review and it boggles the mind. And as fond as I am of my gnome warlock, the slender, angelic beauties that inhabit Aion's shattered world are a welcome sight. Because of the relatively short amount of time I've had with Aion, and, to be honest, a general apathy toward playing any further, I've not yet experienced the so-called "PvPvE" endgame that lies in the central Abyss zone. It sounds like a genuinely fascinating mix of competitive multiplayer and co-operative raid content, and if the game hadn't bored me to tears at such an early stage, then I might have gone on to enjoy it. But if even I can't be motivated to reach the level cap -- and I'm being paid to play this game then what hope is there for your average World of Warcraft subscriber?
So a WoW fan who is used to the easy leveling of WoW has issues with Aion's leveling? I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't go back to certain areas to find that there are quests that had become available once they levelled. I think the problem here is that some wow players want Aion to be wow and to meter out content like wow. And of course it's not. I did lvl 20 in 2 days of hard playing and one day each for lvls 30, 31 and 32 on another character. I have many quests that I haven't even gotten to. well written review but I don't agree with it.
when wow was at the vanilla stage it was as hard to level as aion ,only when bc was released blizzard eased up leveling
now they want same thing doner here but witout expension ,its the silliest idea i heard if the ease up the game they ll loose more gamer from everywhere in the world, and ncsoft still wont get sub from america
ncsoft forget america ,you ll get america with guild wars 2
its sad but thats how it will be mostly
whatever ncsoft do to aion it will never please americas gamer

Does every mmo these days have to appeal to the wow audience. This game is the spiritual successor to lineage 2. People who liked lineage 2 should also like how Aion plays, if people want a wow style mmo then just play wow, its the best option for casual or new mmo players. I hate fps games but i dont go round crying about why fps games are not more like rpg games. People enjoy a different kind of mmo experience, so lets stop trying to make every mmo like wow. Oh why cant i raid ulduar at level one in wow, is that not the same thing as the reviewer is saying about Aion.
It does if it wants to be (as NCSoft proclaims) the #2 MMO in the west. Why would you appeal to L2 players. How many of those are there in NA?

Dude don't even listen to Eben. He seems to be very full of himself and self-righteous, so there's no point of even debating with him.
Another note is that I have to agree with the review. It really depends on your taste of what type of game you want to play. I'm having fun in Aion, so doesn't really matter to me.
Spend some time in the Abyss and you'll understand what makes it oh-so-much more hardcore than some ridiculous BG.
after having done pvpve , most player feel wow bg are an empty shell why you think european servert are overflowing with player
they have been having line-up since release now if i heard right they can go in within an hour
Far too much whining about regressive features such as exp loss at death and failures during crafting. Risk vs reward and it keeps the game more fun IMO, no challenge in a game where dying is utterly meaninless. (but of course, I'm an EVE player and would say that)
And yes, there's some grinding when you run out of quests. And there is nothing wrong with that. You don't have to do all your leveling via quests, a little grind never hurt anyone. (its all a grind in the end, just with less running around).
So far in this game I've ground some npcs, I've ground out my gathering skills, and now am spending time on crafting (shudder)
Its all just part of the game and the accomplishment comes from surpassing the challenges the game tosses at you and succeeding where others fail.

Please, I spend less time in a video game than some of you take thinking up responses. I just find it comical that some feel the need to carry on a personal crusade to bash every game released for "the better of future customers". Such a glorious cause, it must make you feel all warm and fuzzy that you may have saved someone $50.00
Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone has the same personal tastes that you have? Perhaps some people are having a good time in the game but everyone that has a good time in game is a fanboy right?

cant be explained ,you got to play it , your heart is pumping you stay on defensive because your affraid to die and loose more then life ,you got the pvp foe to think about ,various spot your raid got to secure you got to have friend protecting your back while trying to take on everything
then you got to try to kill the raid boss all the while some balaur can come and steal it all away while your busy killing that freaking pvp cleric that refuse to die ,oups you forgot about the raid boss he one shot you you die you lost all xp you grinded for 6 hour etcetcetc
its emotionally very addictive yes its frustrating but you cant try top feel it from outside it just doesnt work
i ll say how most feel about this abyss
first stage they go in abyss :they want to kwit the game
friend tell em to stay
2 stage they begin to see what the buzz is about , now they decided to stay till level 40

i feel the same as you the risk involved in dying is what make this game good
true some might feel otherwise espacially if you have to grind 5 hour just to get back to where you were

even though im usually against xfire numbers for true population numbers but when its ranked so much higher than the rest of the mmo's it goes without saying its number 2 in the west.
Originally posted by bastii www.1up.com/do/reviewPage The game gets a C, which isn't too good. Although I still think the score is too positive.
First off, don’t put your caveat’s at the end, where you admit you have really have not played the game at the end of your review, open up with them so we can ignore you right away. “Because of the relatively short amount of time I've had with Aion” -1up. If you admit you haven't really played the game how can this be a review?
I'm all for fair reviews but come on, even the people who don't like the game have to realize that this guy hasn't played the game long enough. And by the sounds of it he might have only played the Beta version. Also he must a WOW lover (not that this is bad, it’s just different type of player) and has to have things spoon feed to him. He doesn’t like penalty for dying, “Player death results in a loss of experience points, and while it's possible to pay in-game currency to recover from this penalty, it still comes off as a crue…l” -1up. So you want all the reward and no risk, what’s the point of playing then. And again he begs something for nothing “attempts to gather resources or craft items occasionally result in random failure -- which consumes valuable materials in the process; there's nothing fun or rewarding about wasting an entire batch of expensive components on a botched blacksmithing venture…” -1up. If you don’t want it to fail just pick or craft slightly lower level, and you’ll get your something for nothing. Again I say he wants spoon feed, all the reward and no risk.
I’m not even going to touch the grind issue of this guy.. Because the Grind issue is different for everyone, I define it as not looking at my experience bar then realizing, “hey I just leveled again.” If I have to keep watching my experience bar, god when do I get to the next level, that’s a grind. I have hardly watch my exp bar. To each there own! As for running out of quest, that’s how I know he hasn’t really played the game, I have never ran out of quests, or even close. Nor did he point out any of the chat/spamming issues, another sign of not playing. Also, very little talk about the Abyss, huge tell tale sign of not playing the game.
The game is not perfect, nor is it for everyone, it doesn’t spoon feed you. Sorry!!! I do enjoy it. But if you are going to write a review, please actually play the game in full, and have it be the live not beta.

I actually get what the reviewer is referring to. For some people (myself included), it just wasn't worth going through 25 levels to get to the so called 'meat' of the game when the beginning was boring. When you're playing the game and the only reason you're still trudging through is because everyone says it gets better, that can't be very fun.

ea is here ubisoft is here etc etc etc and if they need techno sent like server you never get the bogus level3 fight you get in usa
i wish world mmo maker would just skip usa and just install everything in canada instead
There is no difficulty in any MMO released to date. A 'hardcore' person equates to someone who spends too much time playing a game.
A question for you Mr. Eben, why are you even here? All you do is troll the Aion boards day in and day out. Do you stalk an ex-girlfriend and trash her in front of everyone that cares to listen because you feel she wronged you? I am pretty sure if you were to talk to a head shrink they would tell you this kind of obsessiveness is not healthy. However, carry on, the longer you troll the fewer people will take any credence in what you say.

C is correct but it won't stop the diehard fans from saying how wonderful and innovative it is. It just goes to show that not all of us look through those rose-colored glasses when it comes to reviews.
What. The. Hell?
Ya seriously, I m Canadian and i m still like wtf??
For every one fanboy that cries, two more tell me I'm right.
Rather telling that you equate a video game to a girlfriend. Maybe projecting a bit?

I see you re from Quebec, but isn t it still too early for hitting the bottle?
It does if it wants to be (as NCSoft proclaims) the #2 MMO in the west. Why would you appeal to L2 players. How many of those are there in NA?
lol you late it is the number 2 mmorpg

Dude don't even listen to Eben. He seems to be very full of himself and self-righteous, so there's no point of even debating with him.
Another note is that I have to agree with the review. It really depends on your taste of what type of game you want to play. I'm having fun in Aion, so doesn't really matter to me.
Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!
Yeah, because running around in a big circle killing the same mobs, grinding the same item is just oh-so-much more hardcore and different than grinding out honor in a BG...amiright?
Actually you fail because if that's your summary of Aion then you obviously don't play the game. Spend some time in the Abyss and you'll understand what makes it oh-so-much more hardcore than some ridiculous BG.
after having done pvpve , most player feel wow bg are an empty shell why you think european servert are overflowing with player
they have been having line-up since release now if i heard right they can go in within an hour
with all the server added.
I couldn't take the review seriously.
As they say in EVE, HTFU.

3 stage they experience their first epic pvpve
now they love the game

Your right, I don't play Aion. I haven't played it since about a week after release, when I saw 1.) the game was garbage, and 2.) the people playing it were basically all the 14-year old Naruto-loving retards from WoW, all penned up in one game.
No thanks.
you havent seen anything lol you probably didnt even see lower abyss keep
let alone even experiencing higher level abyss event lol
i feel the same as you the risk involved in dying is what make this game good
true some might feel otherwise espacially if you have to grind 5 hour just to get back to where you were
my advice is simple dont die and you wont grind!
GRIN!!

I look foward to you posting a press release from NCSoft telling us how many subscribers it has in NA. Oh that's right, you're going off of XFire numbers.

even though im usually against xfire numbers for true population numbers but when its ranked so much higher than the rest of the mmo's it goes without saying its number 2 in the west.
