Fact of the matter is, post 35 you get less than 30% of your level from questing. This is from my personal experience as a ranger on Triniel, Look up the character Phaine and refer to my xfire if you doubt me. Aion is a great game for some people, the pvp had potential. It is definitely going to appeal to the folks that enjoy large scale RvR that is for damn sure. That being said... it is a very nasty grind post 35, and many would say its a nasty grind post 26. This and this alone will bleed customers. Is it a big deal? I dunno. For me personally it was a game breaker, I can grind for short spurts no problem. I managed to 4 box my shamans from 1 - 80 in wow and that was an unbelievable grind I barely made it through, I played EQ1 till about 60 before throwing in the towel, and I have a level 102 on sword of the new world. I can grind when needed... but I simply couldnt handle the format for which Aion threw at me. 12 hours plus per level at 35 with exponential growth killed my enjoyment, and has led me to move back to EvE. I will say Aion is a great game for those that can muscle through the grind... but anyone who has a toon post 35 would be lying to say this isnt the biggest grind thats been released in a main stream MMO in many many years.
If you enjoyed the game and left because of the grind I might suggest you to wait till they add the patch that boosts lots of quests from 25(?) to 50.
back to EVE? so you like to grind on real time?? you should just say so.
Difference between Eve and Aion.
Aion I physically have to grind, and cant really enjoy the game to its fullest till Im done with the grind.
EvE I dont physically have to grind, and I can play from the get go and enjoy the game fully, over time it simply gets better and better.
Does every mmo these days have to appeal to the wow audience. This game is the spiritual successor to lineage 2. People who liked lineage 2 should also like how Aion plays, if people want a wow style mmo then just play wow, its the best option for casual or new mmo players. I hate fps games but i dont go round crying about why fps games are not more like rpg games. People enjoy a different kind of mmo experience, so lets stop trying to make every mmo like wow. Oh why cant i raid ulduar at level one in wow, is that not the same thing as the reviewer is saying about Aion.
It does if it wants to be (as NCSoft proclaims) the #2 MMO in the west. Why would you appeal to L2 players. How many of those are there in NA?
lol you late it is the number 2 mmorpg
I look foward to you posting a press release from NCSoft telling us how many subscribers it has in NA. Oh that's right, you're going off of XFire numbers.
im sorry to say aside from the very popular aceanic server ,west does porly and east is mm maybe medium

C is correct but it won't stop the diehard fans from saying how wonderful and innovative it is. It just goes to show that not all of us look through those rose-colored glasses when it comes to reviews.
You're actually defending a review where the reviewer straight out lies. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if yours is the game is bad or average at best then all the merrier. However, if you can actually defend something where the reviewer actually sinks to the level of lying, which considering the fact there are valid issues and concerns he could have used instead then you're the one not looking at things clearly.
I doubt most would care one way or the other besides the "diehard fans" if there weren't actual issues one could question about the vailidity of this review. Personally, it doesn't bother me that he gave it a C. It does bother me that one of his main gripes simply isn't true at the level he supposedly played it to.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

I don't how you can proclaim something is #2 (or any rank) when the game is not even a month old yet. On top of that, is Xfire NA only or is it world-wide? Because if it is NA only, I'm seeing this for the top MMO's
1. WoW
2. Aion
3. Guild Wars

Yes xfire is not a reliable site to calculate numbers not everyone uses it still someone *ehem*zondorf*ehem* likes to use it as fact.

but xfire is a nice tool to see the top 100 and there xfire is accurate enough
nobody want to play a game that is in the 1500 in rank(unless its very popular on asian server
Well, I just saw this thread and the review and it boggles the mind. And as fond as I am of my gnome warlock, the slender, angelic beauties that inhabit Aion's shattered world are a welcome sight. Because of the relatively short amount of time I've had with Aion, and, to be honest, a general apathy toward playing any further, I've not yet experienced the so-called "PvPvE" endgame that lies in the central Abyss zone. It sounds like a genuinely fascinating mix of competitive multiplayer and co-operative raid content, and if the game hadn't bored me to tears at such an early stage, then I might have gone on to enjoy it. But if even I can't be motivated to reach the level cap -- and I'm being paid to play this game then what hope is there for your average World of Warcraft subscriber?
So a WoW fan who is used to the easy leveling of WoW has issues with Aion's leveling? I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't go back to certain areas to find that there are quests that had become available once they levelled. I think the problem here is that some wow players want Aion to be wow and to meter out content like wow. And of course it's not. I did lvl 20 in 2 days of hard playing and one day each for lvls 30, 31 and 32 on another character. I have many quests that I haven't even gotten to. well written review but I don't agree with it.
I agree the review was pretty well written. The reviewer was judging the game by standards he is accustomed to which was WoW. The leveling in Aion is alot more work than leveling in WoW especially in regards to the time it takes. Quests especially solo quests do not cover the entire xp for levels.
All in all the review was harsh. The game did not meet the reviewer's expectations. The reviewer got to the point where he did not want to login despite being paid to do so. So the score was more negative than it prob should have been.

MMOChart used to be a good way to track sub numbers but it hasn't been updated for a year.
well one thing is clear from his review , he is a total noob in mmorpg in general if he needed 15h to make lvl 10 ( wich can be done fast way in 2h top ), the grind , ha u make me lough, is it me or some ppl forget the almighty lvl 79 form wow should i remember some ppl that without hard core grinding ( party and pupped lvling ) that lvl only takes almous half a month if not more ???, why are u complaining about grinding in aion ??
Another thing i don't get it why the hell do u still post about a game that u do not like ? ok we got your opinion u don't like it, u don't like to grind, u want lvl 50 from 1 mob and then complain is to easy, again why the hell are u still posting here ?
The lack of content u are talking about hmmm let's say our favorite wow yeah wow lvl 79 how manny quests u have for that lvl and what xp u get from them ,,, 15% of it ... wow how do u make the rest of the lvl ...oh yea u go to raids and what u do there ?.... oh yeah u kill mobs.......oh damn u are grinding whithout knowing it .
Someone said that u get 15% from an instance , omg omg how much do u want from 1 instance u get 15% lvl from 1 run at lvl 35 what the hell do u want more ? do you want your mom to start playing for u and in the end u get the items u want and start showing off ?
But in the end those who like aion and any other game they will play it with or without good reviews the others will just troll arround it becouse is to hard for them to make lvl , or like the other tipe of troll the will cry becouse they do not get kills in pvp
my opinion, play the game u like don't troll about the ones u don;t nobody has to take your opinion in consideration and belive me they won't, if u are to lazzy to make lvl ( quests/non quests) go play chess or solitaire and give up mmorpg , if u are an wow fanboy good for u go play your favorite game but stop posting crap about others, they will not go down becouse someone else is playing other games then wow , if u played aion until lvl 10 and then u start making review quit your job and start writing messages on toilet papper maybe then u will have the right point of viewe
So for all those who left aion u made the right decision less ppl in que more mobs for me even more chances to gang someone else's lonley ass
Meh can't really take this review seriously unless he actually reached a fairly high level. As a level 42 assassin, I can say compared to leveling curve the west is typically used to, yea it is somewhat of a grind. If you know where to grind at certain levels though, its not too bad. It definately isn't as bad at lineage, but don't expect to hit max level under a week.

Nice review didnt even make into the Abyss lol Look at Xfire.com for the real stats
The same was said about AoC the first weeks too you know. when AoC was on top 5 until people reached endgame or hit the area where content was really missing.
We will see in about 6 months time a much better picture if Ncsoft managed to grab hold on the audience in EU/US.
And AoC never had 3.5 million subs in Asia after a year did they?
Keep trying, your arguments hold no merit without any real facts. Xfire.com ----> humble pie, tasty?
That's because AoC never was released in asia when it launched here
There is no doubt that aion have done well in Asia, but then again few MMO's made in asia does not do somewhat well down there. And Xfire seems to not be used much in asia either, never saw a real drop in activity on WoW when china blocked wow. So I feel pretty safe when I say Xfire is program used mostly by Europe/US players aka western MMO audience
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC) On my radar: TSW, MO MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
You all complain about grinding. Is gathering/crafting in other games the primary source of XP?
If you have dailys... excuse, isnt that free xp? You just grinding each day the same free xp bonus, and besides, its even worst, youre compelled to log in to not lose that xp.

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
Ok, I need to make a question here.
How do you lvl in other games???
You all complain about grinding. Is gathering/crafting in other games the primary source of XP?
If you have dailys... excuse, isnt that free xp? You just grinding each day the same free xp bonus, and besides, its even worst, youre compelled to log in to not lose that xp.
So...How do you lvl in other games???
