To any prospective customers I give this warning:
StarVault originally took my money mid July (1st day of sales). At that time we were told that we would be receiving our boxed copies around September (at least that was the plan).
Now, to me.. getting a boxed copy of the game kind of signifies that the game is pretty much shipping at that point. Sure there might be a big patch or two, but if I am getting the boxed game in Sept I kind of expect to be playing the game shortly thereafter.
Well... it's now going on January and I haven't received ANYTHING from the company except heartache. They have a NO REFUND policy. So even though they took my money and said I would have something in September and haven't delivered jack as of today, they won't refund a cent. What kind of company does this? To make matters worse the entire company is supposedly out on vacation for 2 weeks so I can't even get an official response! Posting official questions on their forum only result in "true-believers" responding with drivel like "The game isn't done yet. Why do you want a cardboard box and disc?'
Is it too much to ask a company to refund money they took 6 months ago for a game they haven't delivered yet? They haven't even shipped a product, are 4 months late from the estimate I was given when they took my cash, yet refuse to even answer requests for refunds? There was a strict NDA up at the time of purchase so I had NO idea the game had no chance of shipping in September. I stupidly took their word that they really planned to ship in September. I understand that delays happen, but there is NO WAY they legitimately thought their product would ship in September when they took my money in mid July.
Buyer BEWARE! If you really want to give your money to such a company on blind faith, go right ahead. I would urge you to reconsider and save yourself a lot of heartache.

Haha.
NEVER PAY FOR BETA.
nom nom nom
Relax!
You will get your boxed copy later. No worry.
I never expected the game being released this year. It was pratty naiv by to expect it to ship at september.

I agree it was a bad move on my part to believe the company when it said it expected to ship the boxes in Sept, but with the NDA up and it being mid July... that kind of seemed reasonable to someone who had no leak access to the state of the game.
Naive or not though.. I want people to understand that even though this company is already 4 months late they will NOT refund your money for a product they haven't delivered. Hell... I don't care if they push the game back another year, just don't keep my money. (And it was ~ $75!)

On the bright side, I would much rather see a game pushed back than to release in an unplayable condition.
Even if a company gives an explicit release date, they can still push it back if necessary (though they usually don't). You paid for the game and you will get the game. Just not in September.
Like Darkfall.. this is what you get when you're dealing with amateurs.
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.
From the latest newsletter:
Loot bags and boxes
We will start sending out the Boxed Edition directly after Christmas.
This is not something that we could anticipate, since there are other parties involved in the production of both the boxes and the Limited Editions.
Unfortunately we ran into a problem with the artbook for the Limited Edition, which means that we will be sending those out around the end of January.
Customers who bought the Limited Edition will be compensated with one week additional free gametime.
Yes.. just as their plans changed and they pushed the game back.. mine have changed and I would like to cancel my order. This is obviously a company that doesn't stand by it's product so I want everyone to be aware of that before they order so they can avois the problems I have encountered.

Vulpeculae,
That is false information. The ENTIRE company is supposedly on vacation for two weeks. They aren't sending out anything "directly after Christmas". I know where you got that from, but it is just another example of fale and misleading info by this company.

Doesn't stand by their product? You say that because they delayed their game? You don't know much about MMO's do you?
My lesson has been learned. I am just trying to help other folks avoid the same mistakes.

No i say that because they won't refund money for a product that they have delayed and not delivered. They have taken money for 6 months and not delivered a product. They will not refund money so in effect they have taken it upon themselves to convert my "purchase" into an open ended loan which they will convert to a purchase whenever they want. See the difference?

If you want you money back, I suggest that you contact you bank and tell them that you haven't recieved your product.
I had said something similar on the official forums and was flamed for it as well. You won't get sympathy from the fanboys.
That said, for the 'investment' people have made to 'support' the company, I think they should get a cut of the profits. I mean, we are at this point now, 'investors', are we not?
That's easily done when they set up the purchase so that they say Sept 1st, and sold the game in August (ie, within 30 days) and then never bothered to update anybody until more than a month later on where the boxes were.
You can't get a refund if the company designed the product never to ship at the time they said, and not give any updates until a month+ later. That's why I find the behavior less than ethical, because they put people in a situation where they can't get a refund. And when you're charging full price well... you have some expectations to meet.
Agreed. Unfortunately my CC company's (Chase) online claim system only goes back 3 months. I am in the process of working through the issue with them. I just want other people to be properly warned about the behavior of the company they may be thinking of doing business with.

There is a new fashion growing in the MMO games companies its called " PAY MY BETA"!!.
<< repeat with me!
I will never buy a MMO before the trial, NEVER. No matter what the rating the game has, no matter what the company say.
>>
If i learned something in 2007-2009 is, i will not pay again for a game its not finished, and i will not pay again for a MMO i didn´t seen even if they promise beta access, if i have to wait weeks after release, i will. Its not a race.
I do understand the OP. He is entitled to what he paid for and SV has been inaccurate in release dates and such but at this point in the games progress, boxed versions are useless. The game is not released yet. What would receiving the game do? Yes the devs are on vacation, but they have no control on whether or not the games are shipped. I realize how many people are upset about this and I really wish SV would at least update the buyers more often because this is giving SV a bad rep. This game has alot of potential and it would suck if this game was ruined because of shipping dates, etc.
I actually go one step further than waiting until release. For an MMO, the real "game" frequently doesn't show up until a year or more after official release. Many people have rushed to buy the version 1.0 of a game, and were disappointed at launch. A year later, though, the game is great! Too bad the early birds got the worm LOL
To even think of buying a game (for $75, yikes!) before it even comes out is funny to me. I would suggest from now on, that you wait until official release, wait some more for reviews, wait some more for a free trial, and then wait for another year, before really deciding to spend money. Just to be on the safe side.
On the other hand, some games grab you right away, so if that is the case, just wait until release and take your chances.

2025: 48 years on the Net.
Let's leave AV out of this as they have their own issues We are talking about StarVault here.
I want everyone to know the kind of company they are dealing with if they are considering purchasing this game.

No matter how reputable a company is, I will NEVER preorder a MMO without playing something close to the finished product, first. Even then, it would have to blow my mind.
Only thing that has any chance of me preordering it is SWToR, and unless I get about 10-20 hours worth of open beta with it and it geekifies me, THAT's not going to happen. Not even sure I will anyway. What's the point?
A person has to step back and ask themselves why they would preorder ANYTHING these days. It's not like the early days, where demand would often overwhelm supply, and you'd preorder just to be sure you COULD get a copy. Now you just get some crappy ingame items that become useless after a few levels. Supply hasn't been an issue for years.
Please, folks, just stop preordering these games. It's pointless.
Oh right, I meant SV.
