i purchased this game about a month ago and ALL I do is PVE. I fight a human player once per day maximum while I kill Trolls and the only reason this happens is because that person wants my Troll Camp. The only reason to ever fight is to gain a PVE spawn point and that is all Darkfall is about. I understand that clans fight on the wekends but on NA-1 its ALL PVE during the week. If you like PVE not PVP then you should buy this game. The mob AI is actually fun but I bought this game thinking it was hardcore FFA PVP but its really the most carebear PVE game I have played. Don't believe people that say its only for the hardcore because its for those players that love PVE so much that they gain Stat Points and Skill Points etc. The only other thing you will see aside from the weekend clan wars is people gathering crafting materials all over.
So, if you like extreme amounts of PVE and you really like gathering crafting materials all day watching your skills level up then buy this right now you will love it. However, do NOT buy this game thinking the game is about FFA PVP because it has all kinds of carebear mechanics that deter you from PVP.

when you PVE is it by soloing or do you have to be in a group? Thx

also, do you HAVE to pvp or does it have an opt-out system?

This is NOT a joke or any of the terms you people use to describe baiting. Darkfall is PVE do NOT think it is anything but PVE. If you kill me you will take a faction hit and nobody wants to take that hit because they don't want the inconvienence of having to kill some Dwarf (opposite faction) etc to regain good standing. That would take too much work and the players would rather just PVE and gather crafting materials in peace. The games gains are best done through PVE and gathering so thats what player do ALL day. If you love PVE Darkfall has more than a normal PVE player can stand in a lifetime.
If you don't want tp PVP don't worry the chances are great that you won't PVP at all. The sure way to cause PVP is to PVE at a Troll spawn that is already taken by another PVE player. If you stay clear of this situation you will more than likely NOT ever PVP.
I'm not sure what to say. The game's PVE is underrated, but on many days I couldn't avoid the PVP if I tried. Frankly I'm amazed anyone would find this particular problem with Darkfall.
Perhaps this is another case of someone hanging out too close to the starter towns for way too long. Big mistake in this game. Also not joining a clan and understanding why there are few players in those areas could also be the culprit.

You can solo everything accept there is a kill 300 Trolls quest to raise your STR buy 4 points and it requires you to kill 10 Troll Lords and that I can't do solo. Even the kill 10 Troll Lords quest I will be able to solo if I grinded enough PVE.
Well done. Well done indeed.

This is a man that does not own a seige hammer~
Man got get a hammer and pound someones bank you WILL get pvp!
Launch over the walls!
Learn your favorit crafters time schedual!
It IS sandbox ya know!
Not to mention chaos citys! Forget about it!
Look Trolls are newbi spawn. Really there are mobs that drop 400+gold and regs or r45-50 weapons. Now I wont tell ya go solo them the 1st try out but over time soloing these spawns is pretty easy. The competition for some bloodknight spawns grows all the way up to 10 players to "take" the spawn away. But thats not the real deal either. The real deal is citys. Not chaos citys not NPC citys but player made citys. Its a place an entire clan is usualy bound to and a simple recall away anytime of day.
Joining a good clan with city bindings is a mega boost to the game. Not only will you need to defend against players like you currently are(or will be) but you do tactical raids on enemy citys to keep them poor and demorilized. Then after enough time and demoralization has taken place its time to drop a shard on them(SEIGE) this is where youll get 150v150 PvP. Go ahead I dare ya! Bust out that seige hammer and see what happens to ya!
I think I get whats going on here with these sudden posters replying to my thread. If these people play Darkfall they don't want you to learn about the real PVE truth that is Darkfall. Try and disregard these posters and stay focused on what this thread is about Darkfall is PVE.
Let me describe a typical day in the harsh Darkfall PVE world.
First, I like to ride a mount to all my daily PVE adventures. If you like having a mount you only really have two options, the first is to buy a mount which is about 700 gold or the second is to take Herb Gathering and buy a sickle and walk outside of the starter town and gather in peace underneath the protection of the city towers until you get a Steedgrass. This can take up to an hour by itself because its a rare drop. Once I acquire a Steedgrass I cast the mount and hit the F key and start riding toward my PVE spot east of Naergur (I'm an Ork). This is where the Troll reside and if you are about to buy this PVE game you will need to know where this is at. Oh I forgot before I get to this spot I travel to another town forgot the name but its NE of Naergur and i pick up the quest to kill 10 trolls because i get an aditional 90 gold for doing so. You have 1 hour to kill as many trolls as you can so its a good idea to do so because each troll you kill you get additional gold for that quest when you turn it in. After doing this about 3 times which is over 3 hours Im tired of this form of PVE and decide to head back to my starting town to exploit a little. Once i arrive in the starter town I try and find players standing at the bank so that i can cast my Disease Witchcraft debuff on them and skill it up. I'm not sure if this is an exploit but by this time Im trired of PVE so its a nice change to cast debuffs on players in town. I figure each cast of my debuff on a player is one less troll I must kill and to me its worth the risk.
Next, I grab my pickaxe and go outside of town underneath the protection of the town towers and begin mining Iron Ore because Im a weapons crafter. All you must do to mine is target a rock looking thing and left click your mouse and watch TV while it automatically mines for you. I'll do this for an hour or so but its so boring that i usually don't last beyond 45 minutes. After doing this I walk to the a forge and do some smelting and make a few more Greataxes and bank them. Doing any kind of gathering in Darkfall makes your stats go up which is a good thing.
Finally, after all of this PVE excitment i usually decide to ride my mount over to the Dwarf lands and try and kill a few of them before logging. This usually ends in me just getting off of my mount and porting back to my bind and logging off for the evening.
The following day I generally repeat all of that PVE.
1st off there are mobs that drop steedgrass man....well hell Im gona catch some flack for it anyhow but its wildtribe mages(5) hivkin queens(1) oaklord(2) and forest golems(?) to name a few!
If ya have the courage try hoping over a clan city's walls and hitting on the iron mine drops 3-5 ore per hit. Be rdy to fight or bank though as you will see action!
I cant tell ya the AI is good in DFO. In fact I think it kind of sux TBH.
I mean when they start cycling hitpoints and changing tactics from melee to ranged while doing it it gets.....welll...AWESOME!
Troll Camp, indeed.
Although as with any successful troll, there's a grain of truth to the fact that until you've spent hundreds of hours grinding skills, you will be considerably disadvantaged in PVP against a majority of opponents. This makes PVE a rather core part of the gameplay.
"PVP MMORPG" may be a slightly more accurate term, but it's sandbox PVP -- meaning the majority of your time won't actually be spent fighting other players. Which is why I think someone needs to coin a better term than "PVP MMORPG", because these types of MMORPGs (Darkfall/EVE) aren't actually about PVP most of the time.

It's somewhat of an interesting outlook on the game to be honest. True or not, I am intrigued by this topic.
P.S. Still waiting on a trial version. Never got to try the beta, so I must wait and see on my future with DFO.
Leave the starter cities and start applying to clans that interest you. You havn't even got to the meat and potatoes of this game. You've merely consumed the complimentary baked bread and butter, and now you are wondering why your stomache is telling you that you're still hungry.
Use this map if you aren't already. It will help you get around better and aid in finding many of the different spawns this game has to offer. -------> www.afraidyet.net/forums/misc.php

So, your complaint is that you're not getting ganked enough?
You want more PVP, hit the first other player you see. 'Nuff said.
Sheesh.
I'm not complaining I like the game. If I did this it would interfere with my PVE and that would not allow me to make the needed stat/skill gains. Do you play Darkfall?

Thanks for the map but I already have my PVE mapped out for the next 3 months.
Heres the thing, i made this post because I was trying to get a friend to try Darkfall but he was reluctant because of the FFA Full Loot PVP. He wouldn't believe me that Darkfall is a PVE game with some occasional PVP. I had to invite him to my home and make him watch me PVE all day before he would buy the game. After seeing that Darkfall was PVE he now is enjoying himself and I now have a friend to PVE with. I thought that others may be on the fence about Darkfall as my friend was and decided to let those people know that Darkfall is PVE and to give it a try.

Wish I could get some of my friends to give the game a try. I'll definitely agree with you that this game has lots of PVE, but I still stand by my recommendation of joining up with a mature clan to really sink your teeth into this game. You'll get your PVP, trust me

Wait, I thought the AI was supposed to be really good. How is that terrible PvE?
The AI is pretty good, but that doesn't change the fact that the encounters are sub-par. The quirky and initially fascinating AI grows old after a few days of grinding mobs that all do almost the same exact thing. This game would be more enjoyable if it weren't such a grindfest. People complain about Aion, but it's got nothing on DFO.

Joining a clan in a PVE game like Darkfall is a bad thing as you already should know. If you join a clan like this person suggests would only hinder my PVE which is a bad thing because I need unobstructed PVE to gain stats/skills so that I can actually PVP. If you join a clan other clans can WARDEC you which means they can declare War on you which is a bad thing for a number of reasons all of which hinder your PVE production. One of the tactics players use on you if they see you are in a clan is to WARDEC you while you are at a bank with the hopes that after killing you that you will drop some nice loot.
If you buy this PVE game please don't make the mistake of joining a clan for at least 6 months because doing so will hinder your PVE stats/skills production. Darkfall is PVE try and keep this in mind as much as possible and you will outlast the initial burnout and someday you may actually be able to PVP.
I'm not sure i get this,
-Darkfall is a PVE game
-Don't join a clan because it will ruin your PVE experience since the game is PVP based
-You want to PVE to PVP
-Your in a full loot, free for all environment
Yup, definitely a PVE game. I saw nothing that pointed it was even remotely a pvp game.
DarkFall is a disappointment. It's 90% boring grindy PVE and 10% unpolished MMOFPS. You'll spend months leveling your skills and stats, and any time you try to PVP before you become viable, it won't be considered PVP, because you'll most likely be dead.
You won't spend most of your time in this game PVPing. You will spend most of your time in this game grinding sub-par PVE content.
Edit: Don't get me wrong--the game has a great overall feeling and a good atmosphere, but that wears off quickly. DFO could be a great game, but despite what AV says, I don't see them making any major changes.
In the last patch, they took the servers down for the better part of the day to implement some thumbnail graphic changes to the way gathering tools look in your bag. They said they fixed how mobs run circles around you so fast you can't hit them, but they still do that so I don't see what it is they did.
All in all, DFO will stay clunky and monotonous unless AV revamps the PVE system and starts polishing the rest of the game.
Thanks for the map but I already have my PVE mapped out for the next 3 months.

You will find DarkFall's PvP if you joined a Clan. If you stay near a Starter City and be clan-less, don't even bother asking why nothing is happening.
Sorry but just last week I believe, there was 7 sieges going in a single day on NA-1 (World War III as many called it), a large raid on Sunday and another one on Tuesday. These sieges included SuperFriends, Turtles, Andruk, Vemesis and TCA which are the most powerfull alliance on the server. And we're just talking about siege, which means that this does not include the countless raids that happens daily in many clans holding or the encounters at in popular PvE spot (Kraken, Deathless Mages, Fire Dragon to name a few).
Yes you will PvE A LOT in DarkFall since it's one of the only way to acquire reagents, enchanting materials and some crafting materials ( mainly rare ores, seedweed, Orb of Might/Dominion and Astrolabe/Mariner's Astrolabe). This "farming" is required for PvP. As for Full Loot PvP, well losing your gear doesn't matter all that much in DarkFall. On the other hand, losing your City, Ship or any other valuable items will greatly hurt you and your clan. Gear can be replaced in a matter of seconds, it's a laughing matter when you lose it.
huh....I get about a 50/50 PVE to PVP ratio from Darkfall.
And as for soloing everything.....
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Omg......that is so damn funny it HURTS!!
Seriously, though....this game has it all. If you havn't seen it yet, you've only to sack up and go looking.
