i purchased this game about a month ago and ALL I do is PVE. I fight a human player once per day maximum while I kill Trolls and the only reason this happens is because that person wants my Troll Camp. The only reason to ever fight is to gain a PVE spawn point and that is all Darkfall is about. I understand that clans fight on the wekends but on NA-1 its ALL PVE during the week. If you like PVE not PVP then you should buy this game. The mob AI is actually fun but I bought this game thinking it was hardcore FFA PVP but its really the most carebear PVE game I have played. Don't believe people that say its only for the hardcore because its for those players that love PVE so much that they gain Stat Points and Skill Points etc. The only other thing you will see aside from the weekend clan wars is people gathering crafting materials all over. So, if you like extreme amounts of PVE and you really like gathering crafting materials all day watching your skills level up then buy this right now you will love it. However, do NOT buy this game thinking the game is about FFA PVP because it has all kinds of carebear mechanics that deter you from PVP.
Your ridiculous. Go find some PvP on your own.. There isn't anything making you grind PvE instead of going and finding other people to fight.
Seriously, some of you people should be embarrassed by your lack of common sense.
Please refrain from posting in my thread if you don't play Darkfall.

I play Darkfall, in fact I started playing about the same time you did. You've confirmed you have no common sense because you didn't take the 5 seconds to check my posting history to confirm that. You've also confirmed that you are pathetically lazy, which is the real problem with your inability to participate in PvP.
Go to the enemies newbie lands, PvP to your hearts content. This isn't a themepark, you actually have to take inititive. If you want PvP handed to you on a silver platter play WAR.

PvE and gathering is purely optional - it's low risk activity you can do when you run low on gear / gold . It's there to make PvP more meaningful.
Why people do PvE / gathering / craftng ? Becasue they keep losing gear in PvP. For 10% of players PvP is source of income - for the rest PvP is costly.

I initially thought Darkfall was only PvP, but now that I have learned about the big PvE part in it, I might try it out sometime when I have more time to play. From reading your post the PvE part seems to take up quite a lot of time.
Perhaps in my next vacation I will give it a shot.
took me 6 hours ingame before i joined a clan, spent another 2 days grinding Gobbo's (and the odd troll or two) before i decided to run to the clan city. PvP is everywhere you just have to be (un)lucky enough to find it.
Also pretty much 80% of the clan PvP takes place on the 4 islands or on the coast. Inland PvP is considerably more sparse and mostly just ganking.
As i said, plenty of PvP to be had, you just have to leave the noob area (unless you count getting ganked as PvP)

Sure it's all about PvE for some stats obsessed people. But those who actually want to PvP just grab their crap and go to PvP...
I agree that one can find himself spending a lot of time in PvE, but you went a bit extreme with it, there's a lot PvP going on and it's PvP focused game as of now. You say all PvP is to help with PvE part of the game, but don't you realize the PvE part is to help you do PvP better. They live in pretty good symbiosis, so to speak. In other words, sandbox. Even though still a lot to improve in that area.
Also pretty much 80% of the clan PvP takes place on the 4 islands or on the coast. Inland PvP is considerably more sparse and mostly just ganking. As i said, plenty of PvP to be had, you just have to leave the noob area (unless you count getting ganked as PvP)
I don't know how it works on NA-1, but on EU-1 hunting newbies close to the tower range is out of fashion
20 minutes of rage posts in Race Alliance channel, and earning reputation of newbie griefer clan are just not worth 200g you can get from killing newbie in troll spawn ...
In all sincerity will someone please find this person and provide him with some PvP? I'm sure being attacked on a regular basis would provide him with a welcome respite from his labors and convince him that it's possible to PvP without having already maxed every stat and skill. Maybe he will then return the favor. Thank you.
There are few clans which work hard to make mining outside Monkfield more exciting and introduce crafters to joys of unrestricted PvP - but new players are so ungrateful ...
Hunting newbies is hard and thankless job. Next time you'll get killed at goblin spawn - make sure to send simple "thank you" to the nice red that killed you - let him know that his efforts are appreciated.
In order to create a PvP competitive character you will PvE a lot in DF:
- around 40 hours to get the basics which are 50 in one 2 h weapon of your choice, 50 in archery, 75 in Lesser Magic and 50 in Greater Magic.
-next step takes definitely more time.
After reaching 50 in Greatswords I get on average 1,5 skills point per an hour of killing dire zombies. I would say it is quite intensive training as I use r10 2 h swords, food and use magic to heal myself all the time. I hardly ever stop and they spawn as soon as I loot the last spawn. It could be that you skill up faster if you have a clan which can afford giving you away free scale sets so you can kill monsters with more HP, but I doubt it will be much faster. So lets make the maths: 1,5 skill point per hour = 30 skill points per 20 hours of pure great sword whacking. It will be probably a bit less as I am sure grind gets worse after level 75 in GS as it happens after 25 and 50 in skill. I can hope that Great sword mastery will go quite fast on the bottom of the skill but I have no experience to confirm it.
Lets set ourself a goal to get to 25 in GS Mastery. You will need 30 hours on the top of initial 40 to be able to buy the mastery skill. Add to this time required for travel, replacing gear and grabbing some food. I shot now and assume that it will take around
40 hours to get from 50 in GS to 25 in mastery of pure sword training. That's just a one skill for a person who knows the game.
Next you need to max out your archery which I wouldn't be surprised will take another 40 hours ( archery seems to skill up with the same speed as my GS ) or a elemental magic school ( no idea here no post expansion data yet ).
That's a lot of time for a person who is not a MMO lover and is only after pvp.
You can agree or not that's grind. I personally don't mind the pace now, I do it more for my own pleasure of exploring the game mechanics.
However the my grind example doesn't change fact that Darkfall is FFA PvP game. I can see that OP has little understanding from his newbie perspective and I can see he get lost a bit in his divagations. " I don't want to PvP because it destroys the quality of my PvE"...
After initial 40 hours of skilling up I took a mixed chain and studded armour set basic r20 bow and r20 sword. I swapped the sword for a dropped low durability ( 60 dura max ) r40 bought from a player vendor for 160 gold. I rode to Ork lands and got 6 kills on newbies like me in one hour. I made some decent loot ( iron ore, regents plus some leather armour ) and got killed by my stupidity and a vet called by one of my clanned victims. I would call it PvP, wouldn't you ?
PvE is an important factor in DF it supplies you with money, skill ups and resources.Disrupting pve for your enemies is important part of strategy, lowers their resources and money input and their morale. Conflicts over the best pve hot spots can escalate to war and plenty of PvP.
Please OP only because you have decided to lie low in order to skill up in the cheapest way ( I don't blame you for that that's the best way for a newbie without friends or a clan ) it doesn't change DF in PvE game. It is your choice to stay a low profile which removed PvP from your scope for the time being.

OP,
I mean you no disrespect, but in the literal sense of the word, your comments are ignorant.
What I mean is, I can see you are playing the game in your own special way, but it's not entirely truthful to what happens in the course of play.
Those of us who play Darkfall can actually tell what you are doing. Basically, you are holed-up in a starter city, using it as your base for raising up stats and materials. That's fine; I'm glad for you. But let me tell you how it really works.
If you are fighting in your troll area, you always run the risk of being caught in an ambush. Especially if you are by yourself and do it regularly. Just go ahead, tell people in this thread when and where you are and I'm sure someone will be by shortly.
If you are mining minerals, be sure to watch your back. Everyone in the area can hear your pick axe chipping away at the stone. And, once again, if you are by yourself, they'll kill you just because they can.
In essence, the key is whether you are in a group or alone. If you are alone, even the good guys will kill you for your stuff.
And, by the way, I've personally experienced all the things I've just mentioned to you in Darkfall. The one grant I will give to your argument is that it is possible to harvest timber and herbs and such in a starter city, where people will refrain from attacking because of the "laser towers".
By the way, I'm not a big fan of darkfall at this time, I just feel that your "Miss" information should be put to rest.

So 40 Hours +25 Hours to skill 1 weapon skill to 100? How is this "skill based" game not a grind? Your still killing the same boring mobs without quests to level up your character. I fail to see how this is not the same grind you find int the theme parks.
I see many threads about DF being only gank fest and now I see a thread stating there is only PvE in DF. I'm a little bit confused... so DF is now carebear heaven for all WoW PvE raiders?
No one said there were scripted encounters that require a specific role setup for a group of players.
To PvE exclusively to top tier status brings a very real risk of not only burning out prematurely but to end up with a fully kitted ansd stat complete toon that can't fight it's way out of a paper bag because the player hasn't thad the necessary experience. Noob PvP is very important. I don't normally advocate ganking but noobs should fight each other at every opportunity.
I know that's hard to believe, but many players in DF who just don't like PvP, especially "getting killed and looted" aspect of PvP.
If they are introduced to PvP by fighting in large group against outnumbered opponent or healing clanmates during sieges - sooner or later they'll get better at fighting, and they'll start to enjoy it.
Getting killed at easy mob spawn teaches them nothing.
Most clans can provide noobs with good gear, profitable spawns, places to mine ore without competition from other newbies - so newbie will stand on their feet in few weeks. But if someone wants to do things hard way by staying in NPC city - it's his choice.
OP i don't think you intented to do so but your posts proof that Darkfall is indeed a sandbox where you can follow and play according to your playstyle. For example someone wanting to enjoy mostly PvE and not get all to worried about PvP can do it on Agon !

It's you who doesn't play DarkFall. Even NEW has PvP and NEW is a clan made for new players to the game. If you stay near the Starter City you'll never get PvP aside from the gankers that stops by once or twice a day. Seriously, the simple fact that you made this thread shows you have no idea what you are talking about.
i purchased this game about a month ago and ALL I do is PVE. I fight a human player once per day maximum while I kill Trolls and the only reason this happens is because that person wants my Troll Camp. The key word in that statement is "You". Your experience is not indicative of the experiences many others have on a daily basis. The only reason to ever fight is to gain a PVE spawn point and that is all Darkfall is about. Completely false. There are a multitude of reasons for PVP'ing against opposing players, you simply haven't had the chance to take part in any encounters, or rather (to be entirely accurate) you haven't bothered to try and seek any PVP out. I understand that clans fight on the wekends but on NA-1 its ALL PVE during the week. If you like PVE not PVP then you should buy this game. Completely false. You don't seem to have a very solid understanding of what is happening on NA-1, because there is a ton of PVP among clans EVERY DAY. So far, none of what you said has been true at all. I'm beginning to doubt whether you have even played the game, because nearly everything you have claimed is totally innaccurate. In some cases, outright lies. The mob AI is actually fun but I bought this game thinking it was hardcore FFA PVP but its really the most carebear PVE game I have played. Go out into the world and see what happens, and I don't mean a twenty minute trip, I'm talking a few hours exploring. Stop hanging around your starter town. DFO is far from carebear, everytime you claim that, you just make it that much more obvious that you don't even play the game. I'd love to see you head to a Chaos City and then try to claim the game was carebear, you'd be camped for hours upon end, trapped and unable to leave.... Yeah, thats SUPER carebear! /sarcasm off Don't believe people that say its only for the hardcore because its for those players that love PVE so much that they gain Stat Points and Skill Points etc. The only other thing you will see aside from the weekend clan wars is people gathering crafting materials all over. Again, an outright lie. Do you really have nothing better to do than fabricate bullshit stories in order to try and bash on a game that many find enjoyable? I'm willing to bet you are not even in a Clan, so why you seem to think you are so informed on the activities of the Clans on NA-1 is beyond me. Clearly you could not be less informed, and it shows by your statements being so far off the mark in terms of how the game really is. So, if you like extreme amounts of PVE and you really like gathering crafting materials all day watching your skills level up then buy this right now you will love it. However, do NOT buy this game thinking the game is about FFA PVP because it has all kinds of carebear mechanics that deter you from PVP. Carebear mechanics eh? How about you explain that. I would love to know what these carebear mechanics are that deter players from PVP. I'm sure many of us are interested in learning about this, because as a six+ month old player I have NEVER experienced ANY of the things you have mentioned in your entire post. I just started a fresh alt account yesterday, and I've had no trouble finding PVP when I wanted. I don't believe you have ever played this game, and if you have it was for maybe an hour tops, as evidenced by your extreme lack of accurate information of the game and how it plays.
It's you who doesn't play DarkFall. Even NEW has PvP and NEW is a clan made for new players to the game. If you stay near the Starter City you'll never get PvP aside from the gankers that stops by once or twice a day. Agreed on all counts. Seriously, the simple fact that you made this thread shows you have no idea what you are talking about. Also agreed, it seems rather obvious by this point that the OP hasn't played the game at all, or has extremely limited experience with it if he/she has played. It has been a long time since I have seen so much misinformation try to be passed off as fact. None of what the OP has said is true in any way, shape or form.
OP, I mean you no disrespect, but in the literal sense of the word, your comments are ignorant. Well said Hhussk
You hit the nail on the head with this post, kudos bud.
So 40 Hours +25 Hours to skill 1 weapon skill to 100? How is this "skill based" game not a grind? Your still killing the same boring mobs without quests to level up your character. I fail to see how this is not the same grind you find int the theme parks.
It's not meant to be done all at once.....your character is meant to develop over time. If you feel you MUST sit there at a spawn and "grind" out this skill, feel free, but you're ruining the game for yourself.
There is no need to rush your character development. You can participate in group PVP just fine in the mean time...and have a LOT of fun.....you just can't go roaming the world by yourself killing everything you see, like most people seem to want.
How is this different from a "themepark"?? Freedom. The freedom to go anywhere in the world, and do anything. You don't NEED to grind.....and you don't need to keep running to NPCs with big gold !'s on their heads to turn in your rat bladders, or whatever lame shit they told you to do.
I cannot fucking STAND quest grinding. "Run to location X, kill 20 of y, then return, so I can send you BACK to location x to kill 5 more."
The difference is, I hop on my horse, pick a direction...and ride. I see some interesting looking area, I check it out....maybe kill a few of the mobs there and see what they drop. Ride a bit more, discover some chaos chests, maybe a red to kill...continue on, find another interesting area, kill some more mobs....and this is how I skill up....by adventuring, exploring, and enjoying the world that I pay to play in.
You wanna "grind"....feel free. But you don't NEED to.

If you are a brand new player to Darkfall please do NOT do what this person does to skill up. If you follow what this person does to gain stats/skills you will be PVP ready by the year 2013. Darkfall is PVE is the best and fastest way to catch up to the veterans that have been playing since day one period. Killing trolls with the possibility of a PVP encounter once daily is the better option I assure you. These people trying to sell you on the Idea that Darkfall is this hostile place where you must watch your back constantly to survive is an absolute lie. If you like PVE buy this game and I bet you will like what you see if you follow what I've told you throughout this thread. I see people trying to say that I should ride my mount hours away from starter towns to find some PVP and this is absolute idiocy. If you are a brand new player and follow that advice you will be naked back at your bind location looking at your 20 STR/ 20 Weapon Skill wondering what the hell just happened to your internet backside.

you are lack of imagination to play a sandbox mmo, return to your themepark mmos
I purchased the game a week ago today; I’m what you might consider a casual gamer since I have a life and a job. My in-game time seems to be spent mining ore, harvesting crops and killing goblins. I also started weapon crafting which is around 60ish. I have been Ganked and PK’d a few times while killing goblins and gathering resources far from the city’s protection. I’ve also been WarDec’d once which made me realize the reality of joining a clan that is not around to help you is a waste…
I too like the game since it reminds me of a 3D version of UO. It just seems that the skill difference between a veteran player and a new player has a huge discrepancy. How can a new player compete (solo) against someone who’s been playing casually for 4 to 6 months or longer? I see people standing in the starting cities casting spells on themselves and on other people. If I go to the bank I get healed, debuffed, buffed, protected… I have to think to myself, “is this what I have to do to compete?” Do I have to cast spells on myself and other people in a town to get my skills to a point that I can PVE to eventually get to a point that I can PVP effectively?

This sounds good!
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Sure it's all about PvE for some stats obsessed people. But those who actually want to PvP just grab their crap and go to PvP...
I agree that one can find himself spending a lot of time in PvE, but you went a bit extreme with it, there's a lot PvP going on and it's PvP focused game as of now. You say all PvP is to help with PvE part of the game, but don't you realize the PvE part is to help you do PvP better. They live in pretty good symbiosis, so to speak. In other words, sandbox. Even though still a lot to improve in that area.
I don't know how it works on NA-1, but on EU-1 hunting newbies close to the tower range is out of fashion
20 minutes of rage posts in Race Alliance channel, and earning reputation of newbie griefer clan are just not worth 200g you can get from killing newbie in troll spawn ...

No one said there were scripted encounters that require a specific role setup for a group of players.

I enjoy the game and I've stated everything I do ingame. Please refrain from posting in my thread if you haven't played Darkfall.
Well said Hhussk
You hit the nail on the head with this post, kudos bud.

To the OP
Darkfall is a real MMORPG not a PvP multiplayer game.
PvP is part of the game, but it is not the only focus.
If you want instant PvP play WoW.............you login, enter the arena and voila', your PvP is sorted.
If you want instant PvP gratification, DF is not for you.

you are lack of imagination to play a sandbox mmo, return to your themepark mmos
