Ya know, I NEVER macroed. And I started after release when everyone was doing it.....I have just never liked the idea of it. I never macroed in SWG either.....ALL of that grinding was done by me, at the keyboard. Now THAT was grinding. I have done enough damn grinding in MMOs, IMO. In Darkfall, I refuse to do it. This is my last MMO....I had pretty much given up on them until I started playing this.....and I refuse to macro, grind, or otherwise participate in something I don't enjoy. I farm mobs for regs, yeah....but I don't do it for hours. I hit them for a while, and move on to another spawn....or go do something with my clan. You're right...people "want to compete".....but they need to realise that THEY CAN'T. No matter how much they grind, they will never catch up to players that started before them....because those players are making progress every day as well. There will ALWAYS be players that wtfpwn them in 1 on 1 combat....that will never change, and trying uselessly to catch up to them is just wasting their game time. Let go of the "race to level cap" mentality, and just play the game the way it was meant to be played, I say.
Good for you! Seems like you are in a rare minority. I can remember I used to be much more fiercely 'competitive' and certainly more 'hardcore'. Recently I try to play a bit more like you, having the luxury of lots of leisure time I can remain competitive simply by putting the hours in. Last game I played 'seriousy' was Aion. I joined a fairly hardcore guild and still fell behind, these where guys with jobs and kids and stuff.
Of course a good game should make you want to play (stating the obvious) the day you get home from work thinking I really should go kill goblins and it feels like a chore is probably the day to del *.* or realign your approach. it's often within 30 days with me now. Now I don't mind a bit of grind but (for example) I would rather spend an hour navigating tough territory to find a spawn that is weak against my poison damage, then harvesting it for half an hour than spend 5 minutes running to a camp and then grinding for 1h.25m pushing 1,2,3, <tab> ad infinitum (or click click click). In short reward smart play, reward risk takers.
I blame Brad McGrind (the jolly green ranger), he confused boring mindless repetition with 'hardcore'. Mindless and repetition can exist at various levels of game and world design. Someone a while back rebuked a post with "go play AC1" whilst AC was far from perfect I felt that it topped DF in many ways. Of course that's not what this thread is about.
An advice: The DF community is the harsh thing, in the game and out the game.[ I don't play DF but I support it because I play EVE ~the other sandbox out there with hardcore PvP ~]. They are harsh because.... there is a harsh environment of FFA Full Loot PvP that you sir can enjoy since the moment you go to a guild and join it. Do your PvE then --- this is a MMORPG after all --- and participate in warfare and sieges with your guildmates. This is, PvP everyday.
The same happens in EVE. You join a Corp and found your ass kicked right into a battle in the first minute and you say: "Oh noes!", but there you are.
After week 1 you can move on to med mobs. You can PvP day one just don't expect to 1v1 or 1vX people who have been playing the game for 6mo+ until you have been playing the game for at least 2 months. Sometimes I wonder if you guys want to play a FPS MMO or an MMORPG.
2 Months is 2 months, doesn't really matter if you've kill easy/medium whatever.
MMORPG's should do this. Two months is not a long time. You have to put some time in to develop your character in order to be competitive with someone who's been playing for a long time. How do you not see the logic in this?
Exactly...darkfall is just like every other MMO on the planet, but there are noobs running around saying "omg darkfall sandbox do whatever you want whenever you want" LOL SANDBOX! Maybe its sandbox after 3 months of killing mobs ROFL!

Darkfall is an mmorpg, so of course it shares some common grounds with the other mmorpgs.... otherwise it's would be an mmorpg.
Yes, DF has a character progression like every other mmorpg. Without this it wouldn't be an mmorpg, it would be an FPS.
As for DF being a "sandbox", I think that currently it isn't anymore a sandbox than Vanguard, for instance. Although it does have all the foundations to build towards that goal, it's currently still missing too many features to get the real freedom a sandbox should provide. (imho it still needs to improve trading - economy - crafting - housing - lore & bring the world alive with npcs and sounds).
This doesn't make it a bad game, it just isn't a sandbox, YET.
But one thing is for sure, it isn't a linear quest grinding hand holding theme park game.
But one thing is for sure, it isn't a linear quest grinding hand holding theme park game.
Yes because grinding mobs all day without quests is so much better. And somehow going from level 1-80 in WoW or any other game is "linear" while grinding axe skill from 1-100 isn't....

I'd rather eat glass than grind through annoying quests all day. "go get me 10 rat scrotums"
And themepark games have linear progression....you're in one area for say...level 1-10, the next area for level 10-20 (same mobs, just with "Angry" or some shit appended to their names), the next area for level 20-30....so forth, ad nauseum. Same fucking mobs, same lame ass "fetch x of these" or "kill x of these" quests ALLLLLLL the way to the end.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck that.
At least in Darkfall I am not stuck in one place doing fedex bullshit for some moron with a huge gold "!" over it's head. I can "grind my axe" on players, or mobs anywhere around the world. Or hell, I can decide to not "grind my axe" and do something else instead.

Yes it is...I played Wow for 2 years and I can say without a doubt that the open skill system in DFO is SO much better because it gives the player control over what he/she wants to be...want to wear armor and be a mage..no problem....want to learn all of the tradeskills..np..want to do archery and melee along with magic? np
Nothing at all against Wow...I just prefer to choose what I want to do and be in a game. When someone takes me on in battle..he/she doesn't know what I'm capable of...makes for an interesting fight.
Player housing...vendors...naval battles...and on and on...
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

Thats funny because all I do is the same exact quest to "kill at least 10 xxx" at the same camp with the same mobs over and over and over and over. I would prefer new quests and at least new areas. Not that it matters, even if I travel for an hour to "new lands" (oh boy) its still the same exact goblins or trolls that im killing. I think since I started playing I've killed 4 different types of mobs LOL! Goblins, trolls, bears and hobgoblins boy what a variety.
I think since I started playing I've killed 4 different types of mobs LOL! Goblins, trolls, bears and hobgoblins boy what a variety.
that's no one's fault but your own. There's dozens of mob types in Darkfall....go kill something else. Or maybe get a PVP group and go kill some players.
OP, you made the best post so far. You right. Sarcasm off. Plus you black and i am one either. Thats so awsome. WE have an other black player who tried DF and critisize it like you did. Darkfall is a good game like you are saying, but there is simply too much grind. The grind is so high that its more a pve game then a pvp game. You can only enjoy pvp when you are at an higher lvl and this is after maybe 6 months. The proof to back up my claim, AV put up a system in place where newb are safe now. How carebear is that? DF is a carebear game.

It doesn't matter which mobs you grind on, all that matters if that you grind on mobs. It's not my "fault" that I have a 3 month PvE grind ahead of me before I can actually kill players.

Yeah, it is your fault. You can join a PVP group, or a clan, and go get in a PVP right now....without grinding. Just because you can't take a vet in one on one combat doesn't mean you can't PVP....it just means you can't pwn the world single handedly.

You can play without a clan. You could go to an enemy race's lands RIGHT NOW and kill some people your own skill level.
Just suggesting (again) that it might be easier for you to join a clan for PVP since you seem to be having issues going it solo.
Many of us have given plenty of examples of how you can avoid the activities you keep complaining about...and yet you keep whining, so I figured maybe repetition would be the key to getting you to understand...since you seem to enjoy repetition so much.

The problem is not like you, we dont want to be some Water boys if you know what i mean. Someone in DF can be so high lvl that he is even able to raid a city on his own. He wont win the war, but he will be able to kill some even if that high lvl player is outnumbered and even if the zap towers are around.
Put in 10 players like him and you can win the war when you face 50 other lower players.
To be that high to be able to raid a city alone, you either have to macro or play DF like the OP, playing like a PVE primary game. Only time you have to pvp is to save your spot and you keep wax on wax off with mr miyagi as your coach.
Edit: I done reading the whole thread. IT was so entertaning. mmoluva, Mortal online will appeal to you more then DF. There is no grind in MO and its a real sandbox game where you can really do anything and pve wont stop you since it take only 1 week to be pvp ready. Then, all you need is stuff like other mmorpg like gears, new spells and any kind of stuff to learn. There is also a cap on skills and stats. In other word, a limit

Sure, if you could find one of the 4-5 people on the entire server thats at a comparable level. Chances are you will never find him and get raped, which is why its better just to get your 3 month PvE grind out of the way as quick as possible.

No, the problem is that you want to be "uber" RIGHT NOW.

There's plenty of people your level and below...more people join the game every day. You're just afraid to go looking for them, because a more experienced player might find YOU.
There are all sizes of fish in the sea....you're not the smallest.....but you're not the biggest. Deal with it.

Mmmmmm....yup, thats pretty much the point of the whole "3 Months of PvE Grinding" idea that we have been tossing around here.

FPS games ----> that way.
No. My way is toward mortal online. Even the darkfall main forum on the player section, most of the players keep whining about the grind even the players who played long enough like someone name Skilla made a suggestion thread to put the grind lower then that.

Ok, Cool. Good luck in Mo, I hope it works out for ya.
People whine about the grind in EVERY MMORPG, in my experience. Doesn't mean their whining is justified, just means they're lazy.

Yep, and the same people who complain about the grind in some games will whine in some other games' forums about how they are max level after 1 week and how there is no content and nothing to do.

Iv been in multiple sieges and iv been playing for a few weeks but you have to look for a clan that's in an alliance.

Just suggesting (again) that it might be easier for you to join a clan for PVP since you seem to be having issues going it solo.
Many of us have given plenty of examples of how you can avoid the activities you keep complaining about...and yet you keep whining, so I figured maybe repetition would be the key to getting you to understand...since you seem to enjoy repetition so much.
that's no one's fault but your own. There's dozens of mob types in Darkfall....go kill something else. Or maybe get a PVP group and go kill some players.

FPS games ----> that way.

There's plenty of people your level and below...more people join the game every day. You're just afraid to go looking for them, because a more experienced player might find YOU.
There are all sizes of fish in the sea....you're not the smallest.....but you're not the biggest. Deal with it.
Or, as I said above....
FPS games ----------> that way.
Mmmmmm....yup, thats pretty much the point of the whole "3 Months of PvE Grinding" idea that we have been tossing around here.
