Playing three games at the same time. Naturally he cant compete in none, neither he wants to. Logically, impervious to cash shop.
Is playing many f2p games at the same time the rule? No.
He loses any credibility in denying the F2P abusive cash shops that way.
That is stupid. People don't play PvE games to compete. DDO, Allod, RoM are all PvE games. In fact, F2P games are NOT scams and a MAJORITY of players don't pay because they choose not to "compete", play at their own pace, and hop around games.
That is the new mode to have fun. It is behind the times if you think the only way to play MMO is to focus on one game and play 24/7. Why would I do that when there are many games to sample & experience out there?
Ok Madnessrealm is playing 3 F2P and 2 P2P MMO’s at the same time; does that suggest anything to anyone? I think my point on the lack of commitment such players have to their MMO’s was well made. How much time can anyone put into a guild, or the games community, anyone doing this is a MMO mayfly. As to how much he has paid, fair enough he certainly has not been conned.
Don't come up to conclusions so quickly.
Dungeon Fighter Online and Heroes Of Newerth are games that I can just log on when I have 30-40 minutes only and clean a few dungeons (DFO) or play a full round (HoN). These are F2P games that does not require the commitment of an MMORPG.
In Mabinogi, I'm also in a stage where I need more levels since I lack AP (I'm skill grinding at the moment), this doesn't require me to log on for 8-9 hours a day. I can just log on, do a full dungeon run which last about an hour, craft a bit and log off.
Dofus is a game I've played for YEARS (since 2003 french closed beta), I still play to this day. It's my main MMORPG at the moment.
DarkFall has my fix large open world (and large scale PvP). (Though it might get replaced by Xsyon or Earthrise, really looking forward to those 2)
So yeah, 3 of these games does not require the amount of commitment that you need in a MMORPG. Also, it's not rare to find clans/guilds that play multiple games at the same time, so "guild commitment" is not restricted to a single game.

So? Why do players have to commit to MMOs? Those are games. Play if you have fun. Don't if you don't. There is NO commitment. It is not a job.
Wraithone is playing two to four MMO’s currently bit hard to say. But once again he is treating MMO games like solo games, how are you ever going to see what depth a MMO can offer if you do that? Also as he points out it is a P2P game (WoW) that is the only one that held his interest which says it all really.
Well, as I stated I wander in... Usually on tuesdays while WoW is down for maintaince ^^ Thats if I have the time that day. So perhaps once or at most twice a month. Of course I treat them as solo games. Just as I pretty much do with WoW. It wasn't until Dungeon Finder that I've been able to take part in the various instances. Wasting my limited time LFG just wasn't very productive. As for F2P games, I've never stated that they are superior to P2P, but I have said is that they are simply a different business model.
This thread made me laugh. Nexon must have scammed me, I knew it!
Seriously, been playing Mabinogi for....a year now. In that whole year, I spend 30$. I wanted to gain access to more character customization (fluff) and buy a pet. Also bought several other items with cash shop money, but I could've bought those items from other players using in-game currency. Most of the items can be re-sold in-game so even if those items may give you a certain advantage, even non-payers can gain access to it through other players.
There's also Dungeon Fighter Online, played that game for a few months but never paid any money. The "Avatars" from the Cash Shop offers rather important boosts of stats to the player, but these Avatars can be traded with other players through the in-game currency, so again, non-payers also have access this content.
MapleStory also offers fluff items. Costumes, customizations, XP pots.
MapleStory has 92 million players across the world (according to 2008 stats I believe). Mabinogi has 2 millions players worldwide, and I don't know about Dungeon Fighter though.
I've been scammed big time, how did I not see this coming? I must be dumb.
/facepalm
Exactly!
Hell, the closest to "scamming" I've felt in a F2P mmo is Dungeon Fighter's avatar clothing system, too random for my tastes. Glad I got 25$ free from a contest for Nexon games though, yet then again, it wouldn't really matter either because I could just as easily trade said clothing for other colors with players.
The best this topic has done, is shown me who I should block out, definitely quite a group of crazies in this thread for sure. The OP is crazy, and this un-'interesting' guy is just unreal...

I actually think it makes sense that these Avatars are random (random avatar for your class though), not sure there would be just as many people trading Avatars or Selling them otherwise.

Yeah, which is why I don't really mind the system in place. I'll disagree with though, is the fact that they remove one set of avatar clothing to put in the next, only thing that bugs me a bit.
I feel I got my money's worth out of a F2P game, just by cutting out things that are considered to me as unnecessary expenses, and spending $20 packs here and there just to stay competitive. I played Runes of Magic longer than most people and GMs have had, went without a mount for 8 months, started buying puri stones at lvl 50 and capitalizing on diamond deals and special item offers. I get my money's worth each time, and reason I play F2Ps.
P2P's have had a history of releasing buggy content as well and sometimes worst case scenario, their entire server gets shut down. (Tabula Rasa anyone?) Everytime I don't play on a P2P game I lose money cause of the subscriptions, and then there's times where I'm gone for a long time while I have subs running. Plus going through the hassle of tech support to reinstate accounts and such.
I dunno what the bicker is about between F2P players and P2P, I see no difference in any of them besides different payment structures, just that in the end it all comes down to just how much you progressed and your ability to control your spending. Whatever floats your boat on the matter.

Tabula Rasa was a special case with Richard Garriot's messing around for too long. And you don't see many F2Ps failing in NA because they were released in Asia before so they had a lot of time to fix issues...
The thing is syndreamer I think a lot of F2P supporters are confusing loyalty to their MMO with loyalty to a revenue system. Here is a question for them do you think you would play your F2P if you had to pay a subscription for it and if so why not?
I accept that poor launches are more detrimental for a P2P customer, but I really doubt F2P have launches as good as P2P ones. They are certainly not better. As Madnessrealm says MMO’s like Aion have a year or two before they come to the west so we see a more polished product.
“Interesting’s” breakdown of what happened to a lot of F2P games is very telling, this is why I am so against cash shops, they start of fine then destroy any sense of fairness or achievement the game has. I am not saying for everyone, clearly many players do not view fairness or achievement in the same way that we do. In a sense this is like the difference between amateur and professional sport, do you want it to be your skill and dedication that count, or do you want money to do all the talking?

I didnt feel scammed when playing Guild Wars or Anarchy Online as fr00b. I knew exactly what I got for my money.
Someone who likes WoW for PVE reasons, could also consider playing F2P Runes of Magic if you cant (or dont want to) pay WoW sub for some reason.

How do I lose credibility when I have reached the end-game in all the MMOs I mentionned?
