losing is still winning, when the players are writing the story. no one is playing to be the best ( they would go play some ratings based POS if thats what they wanted)
a simulated world, where players have to determine everything.  this is not hard to understand. yes it comes with the risk of killers and bad guys, but thats what we're there for. to feel good about killing the same griefers you all hate so much.
in an arena, you win a match and get your name on a list. but you dont erradicate a two year old server threat, in a cross guild alliance, in a days long siege that will redefine the next two years of politics and structure.
until the pve ers recognize that people with the above view are the majority of open pvpers, they will be forced to contend with builders like AND the griefers fighting the same front, on every game that ever comes out.

Tell me dear sir... have you been paying for an MMO beeing on the loosing side for the past two years ?....  You know of any that has ?   So..... why on earth should a game developer creating a sub based game think that ppl like to pay playing a game where they are even more of a loosers than they probably are real life ?

The outcome of a PVP is always the same... there is a winner... and there is a looser.....  The winner is having fun.... the looser can tolerate loosing for period of time... but not for long...   Thus... PVP FFA MMO games are a niche games played by few hundred ppl that have fun picking on the loosers until those guys deside to quit.

In arena and soon BG PvP you need to win the next match and the next match and the next match to get ... the season's title.

Don't tell me you don't watch sports ...

The above is the basis of all human competitions: being rated and ... awarded.

When your land becomes occupied .... you are being occupied for ... years ... and there is nothing you can do about it.

What system is the most captive one you think ... for an mmorpg ?

oh.. you know there are real life wars beeing fought over lands and resouces... And belive me ...there are always loosers.  The diffrence is that in real life ppl are ready to sacrifice alot more.  In an MMO ... you deside if you pay a sub for it  - or not.  And more than often you will hear the inner voice saying "Im not paying sub for that".   Thats just how it is.... it has nothing to do with lands or territories.... its a freaking game... fun .... and most of normal ppl have better to do with their time and money.

So I'm guessing since your avatar is just a tool for you, in some unknown way mine isn't for me, then you don't use an in game name? You use your real name and address and telephone number and picture so everyone knows it's you, right? That way instead of someone beating or being defeated by a cartoon character in a fight, they know exactly who it is? It's not "Cruoris" in there wielding the pixilated sword of death, it's Gilbert Oxeldorf from Walla Walla, Washington. He is his character!

WoW does not allow for reputation? Hydra, Kalimist, Flyn, Woundman, Kollektiv, Orangemarmelade, Inflames, Dahis, I can go on if you want me to. You can not only be renowned on your own server, you can be known across servers. Hyda has 700 000+ views on his latest PvP video on warcraftmovies with a 4.98 /5 rating. Got anything even comparable?

You don't fear them because the MMORPGs you play have no penalties for losing.  Have a nice 1 hour exp loss, or maybe you can't get your items back after you die.  Then you would fear it.  But as I've said, Candyland MMORPGs don't have any of that.

By the end of arena season 5 I was playing rogue/resto shaman in 2v2, Blackout-EU. We peaked at 2,4k rating; sitting just on the edge of the gladiator rank. Not great, but we beat some solid teams many of them counter combos; and to our credit we only lost once against a team from our own server. But by the end we started slipping, we lost the cohecion we needed to pull of wins. we started losing agianst DK/pally teams we once farmed. On one bad night it all slipped, we dropped 150 rating and never recovered, didn't get glad.

I'd have trashed my entire PvP set, leveled back from 70-80, whatever. Winning those last games mattered alot more than a week of leveling or some petty epics. I wanted that title so much, especially that season playing an underdog setup. Death penalties? Exp and gear can be grinded back, it's only time.

For the rest of it all this "real" stuff is amusing. Bit like what the fanboys said about Kimbo Slice before he entered proper competitions.

People who put up real arguments against todays broken MMORPGs just get banned.  Whereas trolls who are pro-MMORPG and flame others still persist around here.  I wonder how someone can troll for 10,000 posts and have an account here, other than if they were one of the moderators and were paid to troll.

it's hard to argue with people who are paid to argue against you, and generate more post counts.  I've won this battle a long time ago, the only people arguing against what I'm saying are paid trolls for MMORPG.com

No one as far as I can tell has been trolling your thread. They've been answering your questions or commenting on your or others responses. The problem is you're attempting to discredit everyone else's opinion (distastefully, at that). If it doesn't happen to conform directly to yours.

Some people prefer open PVP some prefer it in arenas, it doesn't mean either side is superior. It doesn't mean others have been traumatized. It means they have more fun when it's how they prefer it.

MMORPG.com is not paying people to disagree with you, so drop the conspiracy BS.

On a side note have you tried Darkfall or MO, they have exactly what you're looking for. FFA full loot PVP.

I bet you played WoW and you got to the point where you were at the troll starting area (outside of Orgrimmar).  You're probably still on those quests.

I'm just gonna quote this and leave it up here, for posterity .. it's good for the morale of our regular forum trolls to see that they're not alone.

Yeah, this really made me smile.  Also, in an earlier post you were accused of being an EVE fanboi.

    Welcome to the collective.

Clearly Ilvadyr doesn't even play WoW.  Just a moderator, like you.  Why don't you warn me again for criticizing WoW.  What a joke website this is.

Anyway I am going shopping.  Maybe in the future this site wont be run by moderators who are paid to troll and act pro-WoW.

You all lost, I'll destroy you in any future FFA PvP MMORPG if you step in, carebears..

    Mmm,

I thought you just posted that "real" world PvP-ers never quit...

Let's just make an end conclusion: enjoy the PvP you want, but don't compare the different forms because obviously everyone wants to be ... his/her champ.

I know I am not. Far from it, but I can live with that. Apparently not all can recognize they lose a lot of fights.

Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

I actually thought PvP lost some of its fun after the battlegrounds were instituted in WoW.  The endless battle between Tauren Mill and South Shore was good stuff I thought. There was another perma battle (on my server) around Astronaar (sp? been a while since I played wow) that was alot of fun.

When the battle grounds arrived all that disappeared.

Yeah, I've really run the whole gamut in this thread; I've been a WoW fanboi, an EVE fanboi, a viral marketer, a Blizzard employee, someone who's never played WoW, a carebear who likes PvP and I think the guy just accused both of us of being moderators.

Huh .. this must be how schizophrenics feel.

"Real PvP'ers"; it's allways nice to deal in intangiables when you don't have a real case. this patting yourself on the back is getting silly though. It's one of the more amusing traits of "old schoolers" and  "real PvPers" that they allways try to validate them selves through "having played game X" or "having been on server Y", as if it ment anything. It's like some chump who played Starcraft thinking it makes him a korean pro gamer.

Thing is, they forget that other players from those games have played WoW, that many of us have played with them and against them. Keep living in your little bubble, you're not fooling anyone.

    Uhgggg!!!

This troll thread has gone on waaaaayyyyyy to long. There's only one way to settle this.

    DANCE OFF!!!

    Wait..... no....

    um....

... a Neptune's Pride or Freeciv Online throwdown?... maybe...

There are probably enough people on this thread to make either game interesting. And they're even FFA PvP games to boot.
