My goodness, do any of you PvP numnuts ever read a damn thing about a game you may be interested in. Hiromichi Tanaka has already said there won't be any PvP, and if they add it, it'll be sporty like the Ballista and Brenner of FFXI.
Once again as I've a countless number of times posted this:
What about PVP?
We have the same stance on PVP as we had in FFXI, we're having a focus on PVE, but we may introduce some sort of sports-type that might be tied to PVP in the future. What we're worrying about is that we dont want to have any PK'ing or harassment types of activities in the game. So in order to provide a safe environment to everyone and a game to enjoy. So we're not focusing on PVP.
If you must have PvP in the MMOs you play; then just like FFXI, FFXIV will not be the MMO for you. There are 380+ other MMOs that have some form of PvP in them that you can choose to play, so go play one of them! One or soon to be two MMOs that are focused on PvE only is not the end of the world, but it seems so many of you think it is...

Don't listen to the carbear. As proven time and time again, the power of players moves an mmorpg. If Square thinks it will be a good business descion to add pvp to the game they will.

Actually if FFXI is anything to go by they won't. Square tends to focus on what the game needs as opposed to what the players want. It's one of the reasons FFXI has managed to hold so many long term subscribers because they don't randomly switch up the founding concepts of the game on the whims of minorities within the playerbase.
SEs always been pretty adamant on their stance about PvP. When they do implement a PvP system, it won't be a rumble and tumble fest like most other MMOs out there. But a sporting style, like in XI.
XIV looks to have some fantastic stories for us, don't need you PvP freaks to ruin that.

Well said. Unlike other games, Square never buckled to the pressure of retards such as the poster who talked about carebears. Keep pvp where it belongs and out of final fantasy.
Thats a real shame, because even for all the players that dont like pvp. What exactly do you do once u hit max lvl?
There were a shit-ton of classes to max out, as well as crafts to take up, and fishing. Tons of stuff to do actually, and with the way progression in this one works, I expect something similar. I never tried balista because it seemed dumb, but I never missed PvP at all in FFXI. I doubt I'll miss in in the next one either.

Yea. A ton of the same stuff to do repeatitively over and over again but with a different toon. Should really appeal to the linear and rinse/repeat crowd.

The normal game, no. Now God of War with PvP... hell yeah :-P
Thats a real shame, because even for all the players that dont like pvp. What exactly do you do once u hit max lvl?
I mean, there is no point in getting legendary gear from epic bosses cuz ur not competing with anyone right?... right???
But just to be fair, some will say "but i like raiding and collecting itemz".
....
so lets say you do get all the gears, u can 1 shot monsters now,
GOOD JOB ...
you know what happens to my ps3 games after i hit max lvl or beat it?... i trade it in.
im afraid with all the games coming out FFXIV will fail.
Never played an mmo on a console like the PS3 before, but if it is like a PC mmo, you enter the CD key that comes with the disc and bind it to your game account, which I assume would be your playstation network account, for the purpose of charging a monthly fee. Meaning it is a one-time use. Meaning you can't trade the disc in.
PVP seems unlikely.
Someone once said it's not the journey, it's the destination.

I find it hillarious that people thing "Oh, once I hit max level, what do I do then!?"
The fact is, when you hit max level or skill, congrats.... I really hope you enjoyed your journey. I hope you took your time to meet people, explore the lands, and have fun! Just like FFXI, I really believe that FFXIV is going to be about the journey... not about the endgame.

Unfortunately, you are going to have to try it and see how you like it. It is not for everyone. Regardless, if PVP is all your looking for then this isnt the game for you. Final Fantasy has never been about PVP, its always been about team work. Now, if you have never played FFXI Im afraid you will never understand. Also, you have to at least played past level 30. If not, you are just going to have to wait for your WoW 2 to come out! Sorry.....

You have to understand, that everyone in life doesn't want to "compete" with everyone else as if it's some huge rat race or contest. Sure, some games are contests (or mmos) and usually those are PvP games.
But there is another type of mmo where people's primary goal isn't to keep one up on the Jones. Those are PvE games where quite a bit of the time it's about helping one other progress, explore, and have a community.
That's this game. It's for people who want plan to casually play and meet people at a relaxed, lower-aggression rate environment.
To put it in simpler terms; most PvP games are pure testosterone. Think of the FF mmos as having a bit more estrogen for people who aren't intimidated by that.

Unlike other MMOs you level everything on a single character and almost anything you learn can be used even if you are playing another class. Essentially the level cap for XIV is going to be maxing every single class since you will be constantly unlocking new skills and combinations for yourself until then.
Also given the 'physical level' (which is separate from class level/rank) switching to a different class won't necessarily mean going back to the same noob areas and beginning the progression all over again. It seems that your stats are persistant and even if you switch to a lower level class you retain your stats and are able to continue playing in the same tier of content.
SquareEnix has thought this out pretty well so don't just assume it will be like other typical MMOs... there really isn't anything else out there that bears any resemblance to FFXIV's progression system.
The reason im so concerned about 14 is because i DID play 11. i was even co leader of a linkshell and we did all the high end stuff. from the day it came out until a year later that is how long i played.
i had 2 chars. lvl 70 WhM - main
and 75 red mage - main.
(yes, 2 characters not 2 jobs)
i quit because i was soooo bored. i kept asking people why kill the gaint turtle, so what if I get cool armor, no one hits me anyways......................................................ZZZzzzz
so when i heard 14 was on its way with everything 11 had PLUS MORE, i was like
!! OMFG FF 11 WITH PEE VEE PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
i creamed my pants in excitement and then i come on here reading that 14 will be another carebare, we-are-all-good-guys game. u realize from million accounts to just a few thousand... 70% if not more of the population quit FF cuz it had no pvp. so i know im not in the wrong here.

You should want more pvp is good, it adds everythign that adds is good. However, many games have done pvp bad becuase well they didn't make pvp game they just said ... and now you have pvp? What? so anywhere any level , pvp , yep you want it you got it. And thats just dumb. Look at what daoc did with pvp now add that in a game that has pve endgame and bingo , safe leveling no threats etc , plus optional and good pvp, what is not to like.
You should ask for more not less.
However i understand this game will not have pvp but it looks fun reguardless.
