I lost my interest in this game a long time ago...welcome to the club
I wish the people who lost interest in the game would stop posting for a while.
When I found out STO was bad, I posted for a couple months immediately before release on how it was looking bad. I didn't stick around for 3-6 months like people are doing with TOR (and heck, maybe even another 9 months for some of the poeple).
Maybe the people who think the game sucks should take a break from the forum for half a year until just a bit before launch. Seems like the more civil way to go rather than trolling the forums for a year.
This Is like only the third time I have posted about how I am not intrested in the Game.
I should have responded to Eikel (sp?) then. I'm just tired of constantly rehashing the same stuff for 6 months or more, when there's going to be another 9 months or so before the game is released. It seems more productive to go on about why you hate the game a couple months before launch, when almost all the info is out.
Sorry if I picked you out unfairly. There are a lot of people who are hanging around month after month.
The problem here is good story. Think about it, its fine and dandy to have a save the world/ galaxy story in a single player game cause there is no one else to steal the spot light. When your in an MMO like setting and you say "Hey, yo man, I just saved Hoth from being esploded!" You got like 40 others like, "Yeah ... and? I did that stupid quest like weeks ago, n00b lololol." Kinda takes the flare out of having an awesome story.
Okay, now THIS is just completely stupid and ridiculous...... Otakun... EVERY SINGLE MMO IN EXSISTANCE is like this. There are NO exceptions. Everyone is doing the same thing, everyone is killing the Lich King, everyone is always waiting in line to do the same exact story arcs.... So what is the problem with this game? Why is it that people use this as a dumb excuse for hating on it. It just doesn't make any sense, and again, THE GAME ISN'T OUT YET.......
CAUSE PEOPLE USE IT AS THE MAIN ASPECT OF LIKING THE GAME!! If you say its like every other MMO then your agreeing with me that the story is going to turn out to be pointless garbage which turns the huge aspect of liking the game into crap! Are you not getting it?? You say its a dumb excuse but if you expect me to take into the bullcrap hype then give me something good to work with, don't shovel crap that doesn't work and expect everyone to sit and eat it.
I wasn't shoveling crap at you lol. It's the fact that no one knows ANYTHING about this game outside of the Story line... and the story line will be great, I have no doubts, so why is it a problem to enjoy a great story even though everyone else is doing the same story too? That happens in every single other MMO out there, that's why I mentioned that saying that is pointless. I just don't understand why people won't wait until the game is out to make final judgements on whether the game is going to be crap or not.
Again, nobody knows what else we can do outside the story... and on top the that.... the "Story line" is actually essentually the quests to level your character up, instead of going and killing 10 bunnies, etc. It's a more interactive way to enjoy leveling a character up is really all it amounts to but at the same time you're being totally entertained by the story that's happening around you. Outside of that, there will be more stuff to do.... plain and simple.. there WILL be more to do, it's just not been announced yet, they have said that the game will have EVERYTHING every other MMO has, so I'm not worried that there won't be anything outside the story (aka Leveling). Bioware has delivered everything they've announced so far, and if they announced that, then it will happen.
Star Trek and me personally feel intellectually RAPED by your ignorant insults! ........ !!!!!
About the game I have no opinion other than that I'm sure it will be awesome, but I won't have time to play it. My advice to you Mr desillusioned-trek-hater, is to not check in on the game until its 2w to release, and then set your hype engine to Warp 9.

How do you think I am a Trek hater? I watched all Trek series and movies. While I am no uber fan of Trek, I like it. But Trek has always been a bit silly with it's all humans with different ears and foreheads, and thats really a no brainer.
I am sorry if you feel your fandom, Stra Trek, was put down in what I said, since I didnt mean that. It's just some example why I preferred Star Wars over Star Trek, but I dont think Trek is bad.

Of course I haven' t played the game, but I've seen enough info, demos, leaks, etc. to know that the story line will level your character up... you don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that concept. The point of the story is to have you complete the main story arc at your level cap or close to it. Come on man.. use your brain. I'm not trying to talk people into liking the game, but Otakun (spelling) was mentioning how it sucks that everyone will be doing the same things, and I was just explaining that in every MMO everyone does the same things.... This is not a "clever" argument... it's facts about the game.... Again, not rocket science. You level your character up.... you're doing a story line that the quests you do give you xp, and in turn, level you up.

That would be true if the naysayers were truly doing things to try to improve the game but mos tof the time they are jsut pushing their own agendas which is normally either denigrating any game that is not their chosen game(religion) or their view on what makes a good MMO is so narrow and focused on a certain set of features, sandbox full loot FFA PvP for example, that they get mad at any game that does nto cater to their myopic view.
This of course can be said of any game discussed in these forums and the fanbois are just as bad( and usually the naysayers in other game forums here).Just for the record I am undecided on this game...right nwo I could se eit being fun or it could totally suck based on what I knwo so far.

Where are these fanboi's people keep talking about? How can there be fanboi's for an unreleased product? I also wonder how someone can be a "naysayer" of an unreleased product. It just makes absolutely no sense to me.
I don't have an issue with Elikal's opinion, it's his he has every right to make it for himself. Some people like the direction of the game, some people do not. That's all I'm seeing here, that's not fanboying and naysaying, that's people offering their opinion on the product thus far.
That's all we can judge at this point, I don't think that makes anyone a fanboi or hater. It makes us people with opinions.
The rest of what I see is people offering their opinions of an opinion. Does that make someone a fanboi? No at least not IMO. Why must we polarize every topic with lame overused terminology?

No, assumptions only take you so far, good or bad, but all we can confirm is what the developers say will be in the game. Whether people choose to believe that or not, its inarguable. Take this interview for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaKJfAsDWwg he talks about a lot of what we're seeing is likely to change with classes etc. as they move along and balance, and he also gives details about what you do outside of the storylines and regular missions.
If you want to believe him, which is what proponents for the game do, great. If you choose not to believe him thats another story, but you choosing not to believe them is set on more baseless principles like past isolated developer experiences and not the current developer experience, which gives me no reason to doubt them.
1. SWG stayed true to the lore and didn't have ridiculous stuff like that.
2. Don't be surprised if SWTOR goes down this road though, since it seems to be what WoW and it's clones like to do.
1. Uh, what? Stayed true to the lore? Since when.
2. Explain how this is a WoW clone, sure it may have similarities, but a clone?
Good luck.
SWG had quest chains based around certain POIs, like the Emprorer's retreat, A Rebel Hideout, Jabba's palace, each featured a large chunk of lore. Additionally, there were monthly story Arcs that pushed forward the Star Wars storyline that was happening along side with the actual events in the movies. Both of which featured appearances from important characters to the Star Wars universe.
So yeah, SWG actually did have story and lore if you weren't deaf, blind, and dumb.
As per SWTOR being a WoW clone, I already explained that. It's going to be the same old quest treadmill with the illusion that you're actually participating in the game world, when really all you're doing is jumping through hoops to do repetative tasks while being spoon fed story about your character performing heroic (or not so heroic) deeds... which of course are repeated by infinite people, making your oh so unique deeds, not so unique.
And then there's the class system... and skill trees... with tanks, and healer, and DPS... with leveling... the illusion of a big bad war between two rival faction, which will very likely be completely optional to participate in, let alone be effected by.
It's basically Warcraft in space, with voice-overs. I accept it for what it is, why do you have such a hard time with it?
LOL, this is pretty appropriate. Expecting Bioware not to produce a Bioware style game because they want something different is the height of arrogance.

Another good interview to tuck away. Thanks for sharing that! It was nice to see him reassure the Raid statement From 2008 when they said there will be raids and "other MMO" stuff in the game. And again, just reiterating... I love the fact that the story and side stories going on are going to make Leveling much more fun and entertaining than killing x and y.
Again, not going by anything I'm making up, just going by every interview I've ever read, or watched or read a review of someone who played at e3, gamescom, or Pax, the game is just shaping up to deliver me a great experience, and I can't wait.

That's an easy question to asnwer. Pretty much anyone and everyone who hypes up this game as if it were flawless and will be the best thing ever, is a fanboy.
We all saw it happen with War, and AoC, then Aion... and all of those MMOs fell flat on their faces when compared to how over-hyped they were. Which of course, upset a ot of people because those delusions propped up by the rabid followers.
Some people never seem to learn. The more you hype a game up, the worse the lashback when it fails to meet expectations.
The criticism against the fanboyism is simply to knock the hype down to a more realistic level, where the people the the middle won't so easily get caught up in it and duped into making a poor choice in purchasing a game through blind faith preached to them by the over zelous fanbase.
Wow that was a mouth-full... TL;DR, Having opinions is perfectly fine fine, but not when they're completely blind to all but their own opinion.
Personally, SWTOR isn't the game for me with what I'm seeing, but that's not to say I'm writing the game off completely. I'm waiting to see just how it turns out. I'm just sick and tired of the hardcore fans over-hyping games that will inevitably fail to deliver to the hype.

Okay, well, just to clarify a simple PvP aspect of the game that's well known.. the world arcs will make you cross paths with the rival faction doing their opposite warring effort, so there will be organic PvP in the game, you know.. fighting for a common goal that YOUR faction has, and having a faction will actually mean something, rather than WoW's stale factions that have a common goal, and sit around in Dalaran all day waiting for BG's and Instances to pop. And if you don't see that's WoW place... you're blinded by it. All I said here about SWTOR is what's been announced and talked extensively about. They explained what I said at the Comicon Panel, search for it.. it's pretty informative if you care to.'
And the tank/dps/healer has been around for ages.... even in the Table top D&D of the 70s. So there's nothing wrong with them doing it here.. it's a tried and true formula that people understand... and from what I've personally experienced.. a classless game more or less just doesn't work. Take Darkfall for example.. everyone ended up having every skill maxed out... what kinda crap is that? There's no incentive to be different when you give people full reign over every skill in the game... it breaks the game if there's no class structure IMO.
If there weren't any 'naysayers', the hype-o-meter for games like SWTOR would go through the roof.

Really, if TOR isn't the game for you, then which one is. I hope it is not the massivily beyond overhyped GW2.
I wonder if you can quit a game that isn't even there yet. Quite pathetic, you may say. And yes, you can have my stuff... wait. There isn't yet any there.
Be that as it is, I need this as a sort of spiritual hygene. I feel I need to wash myself of the dirt, ash from flaming and other less than healthy substances my mind has caught while dealing with TOR.
You know, I am a Star Wars fan as long as SW exists. And yes, while we all have our different approaches and we all love different things about Star Wars, I always felt, what made our fandom great was, everyone could be who or what he wanted. We didn't have any prejudices against anyone's personal approach to Star Wars. For me, SW, as in contrast to Star Trek, always mean a vast galaxy, tens of thousands of worlds and intelligent species, an endless plethora of really different settings. Not like Trek, where essentially all aliens are humans with odd ears or foreheads and all cultures are just a copy of some earth historical cultre. No, SW was dirty, diverse and dark.
SWTOR is none of it. It's bright coloured like WOW in space, it's narrow and streamlined at every possible way. Now for two years I tried to fight for a better SWTOR. And while sure not every single wish can be manifested, I am just DONE with the arrogance of the developers and the arrogance of the fans. There comes a time and point when you realize, this game is not for you and never will. It is a sort of a heartbreaking realization for me, since SW is my greatest fandom for 25 years, and I dived into the depths of everything SW for a long time. I feel sort of like the old Jolee Bindo, when he was asked why he left the Jedi Order, and Jolee answered: "It left me." And so it is with TOR. SWTOR developed into some beast, I don't feel at home anymore.
The list of things TOR does NOT have did grow considerably faster than the list of things we know we CAN do. It's like cutting a dream away, slice by slice, until there is nothing left by the shell of a SW game. I am too tired to go into all the details. The cuts and limitations have been discussed enough, and after 4-5 years of MMOs with broken promises, of ignoring their fans and endlessly making us wait for the "all made nice miracle patch", I am just tired and worn out. I trusted game companies time and again, always buying the games with the hope they will make it better later. They never did. They took the money and essentially ran off with it. In every single case of the last MMORPGs published the last few years, and I can't take that sort of disappointment anymore. Not in Star Wars.
So I am taking my leave from this game. I won't but it. You, Bioware, have cut down the great dream of Star Wars and narrowed it to the one strength you undeniably have: storytelling. And for me, that is just not good enough. You never should have decided to make a MMO in the first place, because in my very personal opinion, you have no clue what makes a MMO. What you are doing is the same Cryptic did with Champions and STO. You know the IP hype alone with pay via the box sales, give or take a few lifetimers and some months keeping people with promises, and then you have your share. Star Wars doesn't mean heck to you, and I am sorry to say, you never ever should have gotten that IP into your hands. Seeing how you broke this great fantasy is indeed heartbreaking for a SW fan like me. In the end, it leaves me with bitterness and the sour taste of another mediocre MMO, and SW really would have deserved a greater vision than the narrow human-only-storytelling Procrustes Bed you are making of it. Your vision is narrow, and reading such arrogant wording like Mr. Erickson ("we know better that people can't relate to freak characters") just shows me you have zero humility towards the IP and you have that same arrogance which was the downfall of all your predessecors in MMOs.
Fine. Have it your way. But your way of making Star Wars isn't mine.
I am sure sungodra is having champaigne now.
There is no way you are quiting. You are too emotional about this game and will continue to be emotionally involved with it. Perhaps if you deleted your swtor.com account and stopped posting in this forum, you might be able to divorce yourself from this game, but I doubt you have that kind of discipline.
Really, if TOR isn't the game for you, then which one is. I hope it is not the massivily beyond overhyped GW2.
None of the up and coming games overly interest me. I don't delude myself into getting caught up in hype. I wait until beta, or when the game is released to see whether or not it's something that truly interests me.
All of the MMOs I used to really enjoy no longer exist as they did when they were still enjoyable to myself. That's just the trend of the industry apparently.
I just find it amusing that so many people continually get caught up in hype, then get upset when the game fails to meet pretty much every single detail to the level it was hyped.
"Fanbois will be the death of the MMO genre.", Remember that a few years from now, when MMOs no longer exist. It's like it's bad to ask for changes to an MMO, to ask for content, to ask for changes/fixes to a game; according to the rabid fanbois of their favorite MMO games.

Just to point out that any positive feedback about things we dont know a heck about is tolerated here, while any *bad* assumption is instantly killed by these *clever* arguments...
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
How do you think I am a Trek hater?

Who cares.

Really, if TOR isn't the game for you, then which one is. I hope it is not the massivily beyond overhyped GW2.
There is no way you are quiting. You are too emotional about this game and will continue to be emotionally involved with it. Perhaps if you deleted your swtor.com account and stopped posting in this forum, you might be able to divorce yourself from this game, but I doubt you have that kind of discipline.
I just find it amusing that so many people continually get caught up in hype, then get upset when the game fails to meet pretty much every single detail to the level it was hyped.
i know exactly what you mean elikal.
they are raping star wars with this game, just like the nge did to swg.
but they are doing it before it even released.
bioware gloats about their pillars but they forgot star wars has pillars of its own:
community, diversity, politics, exploration...
and what have they done about it?
they've stripped the species, they've railed space, they're telling you how your journey will be...
"Fanbois will be the death of the MMO genre.", Remember that a few years from now, when MMOs no longer exist. It's like it's bad to ask for changes to an MMO, to ask for content, to ask for changes/fixes to a game; according to the rabid fanbois of their favorite MMO games.
Oh i get it. Another moisture farmer that's pissed. Buddy, this the old republic not SWG2.
