Which bands are on the radio and on the MTV all the time? It's usually dumb and repetitive music, you know, that kind of music you can easily sing along even the very first time you listen to it.
Which food brands are selling most? Yeah, those ones, and they don't precisely server delicatessen.
Which movies sell better on the cinema? You can bet it's not the ones that Kim Ki Duk or Lars Von Trier film.
Which books sell most? Yeah, it's not Goethe or Tolstoi, it's usually comercial bland rubbish.
And which MMO is the most popular one?
Funnily enough, you have to understand that the majority not only can be wrong, but it usually is. If you are having fun getting your epics with your Cheerios box and killing your mobs on autoattack (perfectly doable in WoW), we are OK with that, but you have to understand those of us who don't.
If you like The Spice Girls, Burguer King, Vin Diesel and Ken Follet, enjoy. But well, I like Dream Theater, Paella, Takeshi Kitano and Nietzsche.
Wth, I got nothing against WoW players. They like it, good for them. I just don't. I tried it and I didn't enjoy it. I tried to explain why many of us don't, that's it.
The examples may have come across like elitist maybe, now that I read them again, but that was not the idea. The point was about challenge, like eating new stuff that looks weird and you got no clue about how is it going to taste or going through a book that demands several goes per page to fully understand the ideas.
Thing is, most people prefer easy stuff. That applies to MMOs too. That's what Blizzard did great: making their product appeal to a massive audience. I got nothing against that neither. I played Stacraft and Diablo II like crazy. And I can't wait for Diablo III. But WoW offers me no challenge at all. My flatmate plays it. I see him down bosses and I am like... "erm, so, that was a wos?". Last time I tried one of his toons, recently, I grabbed some Warlock, and I would just throw my pet onto the mob, put a DOT on it and eat popcorn. I wasn't having fun, what can I say.
I bought 1 month of play time out of curiosity. Some thoughts:
1) I created a troll mage on wednesday. On friday morning I was on lvl 31 (18 hours of /played). Do you really think you can keep me entertained for more than a month?
2) Wow is more of a hand holding than ever. Today, you follow a linear flow of quests, many of them rewards you with a green piece of equipment, some even blue. No group quests where you would actually need a group so far. You can use a flight path even if you're not discovered your destination yet; if you have a quest to relocate to next quest hub, that is.
3) Dungeons (which have always been a grain and salt of WoW) are no longer AoE fest but a faceroll nevertheless. Mob numbers have been decreased and the damage they deal is pathetic. Bosses have increased health; that does mean the fight takes longer than before and... well, that's it.
4) Quests give you a huge amount of exp. Do some dungeons and they turn to gray. you still have to do them if you want to unlock the follow-ups.
5) Due to quest rewards and random dungeon 'goodie packs', crafting professions are next to useless. I believe you can craft something useful on lvl 85 but before that it's only a big grind. Oh, for some reasons you cant get glyphs from anywhere else but from an inscription profession.
6) PvP? Obviously I wouldn't know; I play other games for FPS. PvP in WoW has nothing to do with anything in the world of warcraft.
Bottom line: WoW is a playable saturday morning cartoon. It's a damn good game in its own league but I'm looking for a real MMO; you know, something I could play for months and months.
This is a pointless post. Any current mmo you play for 9 hours a day (which is freakesh, imo) you will get bored. Developers can't possibly make enough content for people like you that play 18 hours over 2 days. The sad thing is, I recently started playing Eq2 again (I have already since stopped..lol) and I was level 20 in just two and a half hours of play. A person like you would have prolly been level 80.
My point is... if you're going to play for 9 hours a night, you're going to find yourself quite bored with any mmo on the market. Come to think of it.. you're going to be bored with any game as a lot of single player games would be beat in one sitting for you.
Get another hobby to cut into your game time...lol. In my opinion... you're out of control.
I don't agree at all. I had breaks while I was logged on, and I spent the whole patching day by playing WoW, then some hours on thursday and friday.
My ideal game would be one where reaching 'max level' was impossible but you still had tons of long term goals to aim for. In other words, vertically open ended and horizontally as wide as possible. I guess your type of player would call it 'grindy' but I could be wrong.
Also, a time I spent playing WoW has nothing to do with the fact that you advance through the content way too fast in this game. 18 hours /played is the same for everyone; it doesn't matter if you play 2 or 12 hours a day. Within 2 months most of the players are on 85 running heroics and grinding dailies, every day. Where's the fun in that?
Yep, the MMO I want to play (and probably is a long time in coming) is one where If the man gets murdered, he stays murdered and we all see him dead at the same time. He never respawns, never comes back, and its a one time, permanent event in the game world.
I know its a content nightmare to try and create, but I can hope that one day we'l have games to play like this.
The man stays murdered for all those who did the quest chain. Forever: he'll never wake up and your avatar has to solve the case of the mysterious woman behind these crimes.
It does exactly what you ask for. You are hoping for something what already has been delivered: a programmer's nightmare.
No, you're not quite grasping my point, if I solve the mystery, I want to be the only person who solves the mystery, and not the person who did it for the 33,298th time.
I want the game world to be unique and dynamic, that we all actually live in, however the amount of content generation far outstrips our current technology, but one day we might have such an interactive environment.
Sounds Like YOu want a multi player single player gsme. And programmers nightmare. if each player did 2000 quests and there were 600 players on that realm (usually there are more like 6000), then they would have to code and draw and animate and throw away after one use, 1,200,000 quests. Probably more han have been written for all the mmo's ever produced to date. It is people who don't understand how things work who come up with these ridiculas ideas so they can critisize the BEST game producer on the planet for trying to use smoke and mirrors to emulate the impossible.

That is amazing. ayou tried out all the dungeons and new content and made it to level 31 in only 18 hours ... wow superplayer.
I am jealous having taken months and months to get to 80 and then monthsmore to do a little raiding ,,, and heck that was on the old wow .... you sir are amazing.

Actually,, K is almost on point, and this is something EQ1 toyed with from the start.. Imagine a game that has factions galore that can be earned or lost by each player.. Depending how you conduct yourself in the game determines what you can and can NOT do.. Such as EQ1 when players were playing with factions from the get go within cities.. or even later on when people chose to either factions themselves with the dragons, or the giants.. You couldn't do both Like I said, this was toyed with over 10 years ago, but devs today decided it was anti-casual I guess..
If Blizzard wanted to really spice things up, allow people to target and KILL allied toons and take negative faction hits.. Let them choose their destiny.. Give people multiple paths in which to advance, just not the cookie cutter one they layed out for you..
I for one had become very bored with the game and had left for several month but had decided to return when the latest patch was put in place and I for one throughly enjoy the changes. I also am aware that it is impossible for any game developer out there to put out a bug free update or an update /game that will not get any negative responce from someone. So for those of us who are enjoying it play on and if you come accross something that is bugged report it dont cry about. If you dont enjoy the game as a whole the leave if it is a particular bug that is causeing you not to enjoy it then report it and be satisfied in the fact that you as a player have done all you can to resolve the issue and move on and come backa t a later time to revisit it to see if it has be fixed.

It was toyed with but if you remember, because of Sony's screwed up itemization, a majority of folks usually sided with dwarfs because the rewards were better. Blizzard has said from vanilla that they are not going to create content that's not accessible to everyone so putting stuff like that in now goes directly against the design philosophy of WoW.
The second part of what your talking about sounds like giving experience for PvP. They have something like that now for BG's, but anything more than that would be exploited like crazy.
Actually tanoril, what I'm getting at is that I would of liked to see difference paths from start to finish.. And infact WoW did toy with the opposing faction idea as I recall now, but it never took off because there was no reward worthy for the average player.. Rememeber the centaur tribes you could faction yourself with.. That was vanilla WoW.. You could only be possitive with one tribe at a time.. As you gained with one, you lost with the other.. Similar to the Booty Bat / Pirate factions as well.. Again vanilla WoW.. However, those were only side hobby factions but nothing mainstream.. I would of loved to see a lot more of that from 1-80.. So much more that characters would have an almost unique background and history.. Isn't this suppose to be a RPG? I don't see much role playing if I have to follow the breadcrumbs from point A to point B.. Do you?
I cancelled my account some days ago, as I havent played for weeks. I have jsut ZERO interest in Blizzard and "their" World of Warcraft & their Horde characters. At first I was encouraged when I read the headline so I entered this thread to see if there was something that could stir my interest so I could go back to WoW (account is cancelled from 8.th of december).
NO!
This was not sufficient. This thread did not stir my interest, even though I gave it a chance. Good for me, bad for Blizzard. Maybe I should not search for something that might send me back afterall. I am quite happy with "hating" wow atm.
Safe travels to the rest! I wish you best luck ingame though

Like if WoW fanboys weren't biased too.
Just think about this.

I agree with you in all you say on your post.
What I meant is both parts are biased.

The bronx type, huh? You're clueless.
