I could easily see GW2 blowing WoW out of the water and do you know why?
Kids and people being introduced to MMORPGs for the first time will pretty soon have a better option to start with than WoW because GW2 is free once you buy it, you do not have to buy a bunch of expansions to get to the endgame, and it is extremely casual-player friendly.
I still voted WoW and GW2 being on top together.
I would have to disagree. Keep in mind, many new players will also need better system riggs to play GW2. just look at Rift, and how its handling lower rig PC. Not so well right now. Now imagine GW2,,,, That will be extreme on low rigs.
will casual new comers be able to handle that kind of pressure?
If you know the system requirements for GW2 then please show them. Anet stated that they want GW2 to be playable on a wide range of computers and unless you show me proof that mid-to-low end computers won't be able to handle the game that well I'm going to take the dev's words over yours.
They said their graphics will be 'better' than Aion which suggests it'll be at least on par with Aion's system requirements.
I'm sure it is easily within Anet's reach to produce better graphics than Aion and have lower system requirements. Technology is better these days than when Aion was in development and it would be easier to make something look better and put less stress and a PC. Unless you have the actual system requirements for the game I going to believe the devs.
I vote WoW cuz no mater which one it is that comes out it top it is still wow.
Wow is the most successful MMO ever. But sooner or later will another game pass it by anyways, that is how time works. Unless of course the genre is dying but I don't think so.
It is very likely that Blizzard still will be te big one after TOR and GW2 but the clock is ticking and nothing lasts forever (well, everyone fears time except pyramids who time itself fear to quote an old saying).

GW2 texture wise isn't great. Art wise it is.
Rift is unoptimized to hell, Age of conan looks 50x better and runs a lot smoother in both DX9 and DX10.

Duh, AoC spent years optimizing the system, remember it from the beta or just after release?
It wasn't better than Rifts then. It is always hard to optimize a game for all computers at launch, in almost all cases it takes at least a year before that is done.
I'm fine with all of them co-existing at the top. Whatever we say though, there can only be 'one'.
Having said that it's not important who really is number 1, but at least all of them having roughly the same number of subs and with equally active game environment and communities is my ideal scenario.
Although it's been said multiple times that GW2 won't be competing with subscription-based MMOs.
I know SW and GW have SOME asian fanbase, but does either really have the HUGEEEEEEEEEEE asian fanbase that warcraft 3/starcraft 1 gave blizzard?
I mean, SW has more fans over there (I'd assume, not talking about just video games) then a game like GW.
Even if every single person not in the asian area leaves wow for the other two games, WoW would still have 6-7++ million people. But those people won't pay for almost anything compared to us silly subbers out in the rest of the world.
Originally posted by SonicTHI Big initial sales (1 mil or so) but a steep decline in subs after the first few months when most vocal fanboys realize that SW+Bioware does not equal god.
To the part in Red; you are right the equation is not SW + Bioware = God, it is Blizzard + MMO = God! At least to all the zealots (my name for all the rapid Blizzard fan boys that try to convert everyone to their faith in Blizzard) out there, in fact a lot of them have already claimed Titan as the next King. A game which they know absolutely nothing about, in fact there is some in this thread claiming the dominion of their God Blizzard and the greatest game of all time Titan.
By the way I am not calling you a Zealot, just pointing out how funny it is that so many people are claiming Titan as the greatest thing since slice bread. When the amount of info we have about it could fill a thimble.

If you had payed some more attention to some of the early Q&A's (or just didn't catch it) They've said that for GW2 they've hired some of the best people in the world to make an engine which lowers the system req, without having to sacrifice graphics or performance. thus making it very playable on mid-range computers. Now, the definition on a "mid-range pc" is another question.

GW2 isn't really worth paying attention to at this stage for me. Yes, I bought all GW1 + exp and I certainly will buy GW2 but to follow it right now, at least 6 months before release? ehh.. not really.
I don't follow FIFA anymore either but I buy them all every year.
The 'engine text' is pure PR speak if that's what they said. I'm sure the people they have can code 100 times better than me (i'm more of a DB/Web UI guy) but that looks like something that was passed through marketing/PR not a 'coder'.
Gdemami - Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
I predict, that SWTOR will fail to a degree, at least past the expectations. It will without a doubt be advertised extremely well and boxed versions will be everywhere, so that everyone and their dog will probably play it on release, but lose interest fairly fast. GW2 I can see getting very popular, even though I personally dislike the first one a lot. It's different, than WoW, but caters to same people. For WoW's future I predict long life, but slow decline, that has already started. Don't think release of the two games will affect WoW too much, might bite a chunk but not too much.
I guess we also should take Rift to the equation as it's doing decently, right? Then there's TERA as well, but not sure if that'sll be big in the west.

I see your point, but it's not all PR, they will most likley have one of the better engines out there, I'm very sure that they've worked hard on the engine, because most of their marketing haven't been all about hardcore gamers with really good rigs, but towards more casual gamers.
I hope SW:TOR can take a little steam off of WOW in the 2 coming years.
If Blizzard has to launch their new games in a market with WOW still having 60% of the market, it would kill them.
But if SW:TOR could go as high as 1/2M subs, at least people will have a more serious and objective look at their next launches.
GW2, I don't know. It all sounds full of potential, but I have many doubts.
Despite the fact GW2 is being touted as a 'rival' to SWTOR on these forums (and this thread too!) the two will happily co-exists since GW2 is B2P. Similar to how the latest FIFA will not affect any MMO subs either.
Besides, just like SWTOR, GW2 is doing some interesting stuff to the MMO genre.
Gdemami - Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
I chose all three will have very high sub rates - or I suppose in the case of GW2 purchase rate. Only way I see GW2 or SWTOR failing is if they completely drop the ball in their game development or launch.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I'd compare it to Dragon age or Oblivion. They require time invested but they don't really pose any threat to an MMO.
Voted Gw2+WoW. I know the guys at arenanet will get out a very polished title and the b2p system will draw in allot of people, WoW will be on top, Blizzard is to invested in this and makes to much money to let it die, the only thing that will kill wow will be the next blizz mmo. as for SWTOR, i'm sorry to say this but i hate bioware, why? just go and play Dragon Age 2 and compare it to nwn or baldur's gate and you will see, heck, compare it to Dragon age 1 and see that it's 50% the game Dragon Age was. I think most people don't look at GW2 as an MMO because GW1 wasn't "technically" an MMORPG. They apparently haven't read what Anet is doing with GW2. Won't they be surprised when GW2 puts a beatdown on WoW! lol

Yeah, its kind of amusing watching people try to debate which games will do what... when they have absolutely no information about the games theyre even discussing.
For those who are simply confused.... MMORPG is not determined by the fact that it has a monthly subscription.

Never said it wasn't an MMO. It's due to the fact it has no sub, it will likely not impact MMO's that have a subscription in anyway. I perhaps should of stated it poses no threat on MMO's with subscription instead of MMO's in general.
This is getting old. I dont see why a WoW or SWTOR player cant just also buy GW2, because it doesnt have a sub. Many MMO players also buy single player games. Their sub doesnt prevent them from doing that.
So I think that there is a large chance for all 3 to stay/become successfull. GW2 can be successfull without competing with either SWTOR or WoW.
