Im looking forward to SWTOR personally. If GW2 comes out first i will be buying that but will most likely dump it for SWTOR. B2P or P2P aside i only have time to play one MMO and being a hardcore raider id like to focus on one game. My choice being SWTOR
Well I'll give it a go as to why i think GW2 will be the best...
1. WoW is getting old and growing older by the second. If you want the WoW player crowd then you will need to offer them something new and something good at the same time. Guild Wars 2 does this. Guild Wars 2 will not be the traditional mmo.
2. No Monthly fee. Sure there will be microtransactions but nothing that gives gameplay advantages.
3. The lore of Guild Wars is by far the best out of every game I have ever played. There is so much to learn about the Guild Wars Universe and it is quite appealing to learn about it.
4. ArenaNet from top to bottom is just awesome. From the art team to the dev team, they just know how to make a game good.
5. The original Guild Wars had a ton of success so why wouldn't anyone want to play the new version ?
6. So far from what we have seen the gameplay looks pretty solid. No more holy trinity.
7. Alot to do in Guild Wars 2. Events, personal story, pvp, crafting and dungeons.
8. The races in Guild Wars 2 looks awesome, especially the Charr.
I hope SW:TOR can take a little steam off of WOW in the 2 coming years.
If Blizzard has to launch their new games in a market with WOW still having 60% of the market, it would kill them.
But if SW:TOR could go as high as 1/2M subs, at least people will have a more serious and objective look at their next launches.
GW2, I don't know. It all sounds full of potential, but I have many doubts.
Despite the fact GW2 is being touted as a 'rival' to SWTOR on these forums (and this thread too!) the two will happily co-exists since GW2 is B2P. Similar to how the latest FIFA will not affect any MMO subs either.
Besides, just like SWTOR, GW2 is doing some interesting stuff to the MMO genre.
I'd compare it to Dragon age or Oblivion. They require time invested but they don't really pose any threat to an MMO.
Do you people still not realize that GW2 IS an MMO just like the games youre saying it wont effect because theyre MMOs?
Never said it wasn't an MMO. It's due to the fact it has no sub, it will likely not impact MMO's that have a subscription in anyway. I perhaps should of stated it poses no threat on MMO's with subscription instead of MMO's in general.
I've seen that reason multiple times on this forum for GW2 not affecting MMO's with subs. Could someone please help me understand how this make sense? If someone bought GW2 and loved it, why would they continue to also pay for a sub MMO. I can see some doing that but I would think that they are the minority.

I think it comes from the fact that many Wow players played GW a rather long while for the PvP. Wows PvP never really was it´s strongest point so those people played Wows PvE and GWs PvP.
It is not unlikely that the same thing might happen again for some players. When a game have no monthly fees you can use it as an alt game or play some aspects while still paying fees for another game for other aspects.
But the real hardcore fans will not play any other MMO.
Comments
well, sad but true, i think WoW will still be on top
GW2 and SWTOR will have a decent sub also maybe more than a few million each
so, WoW, GW and SWTOR will probably rule the MMOs next year
actually ArcheAge is 1 game that might also join the top 3 giants next year
So What Now?

It's all about which one is going to be more fun and there can be only one.
Whack a mole easy mode doesn't do it for me.
F2P is a joke.
That just leaves the Masterpiece.

Dude, enough with the necro threading. Check the date on things before you start posting to the thread.
