I just realized I misspelled precise. Oh, the tragic irony.
... anyway, I value precision too, but at least when it comes to opinions, I just automatically append 'In my opinion' to every third sentence I read here on mmorpg.com. In my opinion.
It's not about opinions.
It's about what you're talking about. If you say GW2 is blablabla then you're talking about GW2, whether or not you add that it's your opinion or not.
If you say I feel GW2 is blablabla then you're talking about yourself, your feelings.
Apples are nice is clearly an opinion. But it does talk about apples.
Apples seem nice is also an opinion. But it doesn't really say anything about apples at all.

I hope you do get it (Hey, B2P makes it tempting!), and play WvW, because I would totally love to kill... uh, I mean, team up with you! We can go set people on fire together.
I'll let you know when I pick up GW2. Would be cool to game with you Even if its not my prefered cup of tea on first (and second) sight, it doesn't mean it won't be enjoyable; graphics, combat, de's and artwork all look great. But I would prefer if you'd stop being so damn reasonable, Meowhead. While both games aren't released yet, we should first reenact a dramatic "friendship that couldn't be because of different family backgrounds game preferences" story, so feel free to claw my eyes out while I kick you over the fence ^_^

I guess I'd have to go and reread what the whole kerfuffle was about, but I have to shamefully admit I don't actually care that much. (I know! I'm a horrible person! I should reread the whole thread, more carefully this time! Twice!) The thing is, even if somebody says 'apples are nice', what they really mean is 'apples seem nice', since none of us have eaten an apple.
Sure, maybe somebody went to a convention and LICKED an apple, but nobody has taken a bite.
So we're all talking about what an apple seems like, whether or not we say 'An apple seems like' 'an apple is', or 'An apple definitely is'.
Even Arenanet employees have only nibbled around the edges of the apple, they haven't sat down and made a meal of it.
Wait, are apples GW2 or Bioware? Because I TOTALLY have a friend who works at Bioware and broke his confidentiality agreements just to tell me...
(cough) Sorry. Couldn't resist, I've seen people say things like that a few times, both pro and anti SW:ToR.
Since I really DO have a friend who worked at Bioware, I'm pretty sure that's bullshit, since EA apparently threatens to release live fiery rats into the intestines of anybody who even mentions they've licked an apple. uh, I mean, SW:ToR alpha.

Have I ever told you that my dream MMO is based off of West Side Story, complete with musical throwdowns, coordinated dance routines, and knife fights over girls? I might be straying off topic, so I'll just say that I would still play it even if it had a Star Wars skin. Lightsaber dance routines would kick ass.

As far as I'm concerned everything is an opinion. So really there's no diffirences.
The Earth is round is an opinion. It's a very well informed opinion, but still an opinion.
I don't believe in absolute undeniable truth, at least none that is knowable for humanity.
Heh, I do, the problem is just getting informed enough to factually prove one thing is right and other things are wrong. But as a species we have been doing a good job getting better at that in the past few centuries.
In real life I'll let stuff like this slide, it's not like it really matters. On forums though I'll indulge myself and argue about it, it's not like those posts really matter.
BLASPHEMY.
Only by talking about the true glory of our favorite unreleased MMO (Or released MMO, I'm not picky), can we truly decide which game is best suited to lead into the future!
I'm pretty sure every MMORPG developer worth spit avidly browses these forums, reading every last detail, trying to determine what characteristic of GW2 and SW:ToR it is that people REALLY want.
By collating all the information, based on an algorithm mostly determined by amount of capital letters (PS. GW2 IS SO AMAZING OMG LIKE I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.), they will develop the true next gen MMO that will make ALL gamers, everywhere, happy.
So how dare you say our quibbles on whether or not GW2 or SW:ToR has better grouping mechanisms, and which one has picked the best trade chat color don't matter.
They matter so very, very much.
(PS. GW2 IS AMAZING LIKE SUPER AWESOME, TOO BAD SW:TOR IS SO VERY BAD, AS YOU CAN TELL BY HOW LOUDLY I AM PROCLAIMING THIS.)
Heh, I do, the problem is just getting informed enough to factually prove one thing is right and other things are wrong. But as a species we have been doing a good job getting better at that in the past few centuries.
My personal reasoning is that in order to prove absolute undeniable truth you need to have ALL information. Including information you didn't know exist. Including information that doesn't exist currently but may in the future etc.
So while absolute undeniable truth may exist in the world "an sich" ( the world before any interpretation happens, a world we can't talk about because in order to talk about we'd need to interpretate it which would mean we're no longer talking about the world "an sich" ) it does not exist in the world for us where everything is clouded by interpretation.
My personal reasoning is that in order to prove absolute undeniable truth you need to have ALL information. Including information you didn't know exist. Including information that doesn't exist currently but may in the future etc.
... and chances are, we're probably just in some alien's computer simulation of a universe anyway.
Just as bad and cartoony. They should just remove that race from the game. It looks horrible
At least the are bothering to put more than humans in the game.
All the races in GW2 are humanoid, same as in SWTOR.
no they are not. Charr run on four legs. they look more like some wild cats.
So if I paint myself blue and crawl like a baby does it make me not humanoid?
So you are basically saying that a little kitten is humanoid because the only difference is it has fur and walks on 4 legs?
They are just reskinned humans. They wear armor, fight standing up, have two legs and two arms a torso. I mean if I didn't shave in a week they would look just like me.
So despite being more bestial than human (run on all fours, have horns, muzzle, tail, claws, pads on hands and feet, fur, 2 sets of ears) they are still humanoid? Well, you put up such a good argument that I'm going to have to agree with you. I guess zoos all around the world are going to have to release their bears and apes because they can walk on 2 legs.
Glad you agree with me.
Since you didn't come up with any counterpoints to what I said I'm going to guess that you gave up because you are out of senseless ideas.
Not really, Charr are reskinned humanoids no matter how you put it. Just like the races in SWTOR. Sure they are different colors and have horns coming from there head, but they are basically reskiined humans.
If you even looked at their animations ( they run on 4 paws) then you wouldve known that they are completely different models. Try at least to be informed instead of blabbing nonsense.

I can crawl on all fours, so does that mean I am less human?
Some people try to needlessly fit everything into the trinity mold and sometimes it is quite a stretch. I'm glad no one didn't bring up the absurd example of modern battle tank having a "MMO tank role" although I didn't read every post in this thread.
As many have already suggested, there wont be traditional trinity in GW2.
Good luck being a tank when there's no ways to directly manipulate mob AI to attack you.
Good luck being a healer when the best you can have is TWO healing skills in your skill bar (water elementalist). What are you going to do? -Ignore the 8 other skills so that you fill your healer role? Furthermore Anet has suggested that healing is less cost efficient than preventing damage e.g. dodging.
Thats always a problem when discussing GW. People who never played GW1 and only know about the traditional aggro magnet tanks MMO's have trouble understanding the difference.
Same goes for the team behaviour of mobs in GW, its so unlike mob behaviour in other MMO's.
Just as bad and cartoony. They should just remove that race from the game. It looks horrible

That basically makes all mammals reskinned humanoids. After several ppl pointed out how Charr are very different in model, animations etc, you still call them a reskinned humanoid. And now its clear that this is very different from SWTOR races, you now start to argue semantics.
On paper GW2 seam more interesting, since it goes more for something we haven't done zillion time already.
But you really would have to play them before judging i think.
The advertizement isn't something you should base your feeling on, GW2 have a very agressive and a bit too much arogant advertisement if you ask me, it remind me a bit of DF... I'm not sure the stuff they will deliver can be that awsome in fact especially because its pretty clear GW2 is not a sandbox, its just a pvp game that want a persistant world, once more its still something a bit undefined to me. A mmo that really want to ambrass the persistant world aspect as a main feature is a sandbox to me. Now SWTOR, even if they started with a traditional vision i think they somehow had to go back on this during development, they also seamed to change quiet a few of their solo rpg aspect that clearly can't be as good in a mmo, like the companions and those. But those not so mmo aspect still will put a particular flavor to the game imo; also they made one of the best multi player rpg to me NWN, not a mmo technically but very close to. Also i have to say the combat system in SWTOR seam more interesting, im sorry guys, the dynamic seam better and more chalenging. GW2 seam to just have slapped some fps like aspect and thats it, a bit short i think. From the videos i seam to prefer SWTOR combat for his dynamism with the mobs at least, its also what apear from most critics.
Also overall it seam GW2 is better, the difference isn't that much i think. Il would keep an eye on The secret world too if i was you, if this mmo is as good as AO was at his time, it will go on par with GW2 and SWTOR quality wise.

Well since we're talking about someone who claims that Guild Wars 2 will have tanks and healers and that Charr are human reskins because I can get on my hands and knees and start crawling my a$$ off, I'm actually quite surprised that you're saying something as logical as dophins are not reskinned humans. So, do you want a cookie for that?

If you have genuine digitigrade legs, then yes. Yes it does.
It would help if you realized you're using 'human reskin' the wrong way. Reskinning has a very specific meaning with video games. :T
I do, they posted my pic earlier. But seriously, Would you like it better if a called it a humanoid cat?
In Bioware we trust!
It's really a humanoid semi-feline chimera, if you want to be accurate, but sure.
Humanoid cat is a lot closer. I won't argue that Charr are humanoids, but there's a pretty big gap between 'human reskin' and 'humanoid'.
ET is a humanoid, for example.
I won't argue that 3 out of the 5 races in GW2 are basically just human reskins.
That basically makes all mammals reskinned humanoids. After several ppl pointed out how Charr are very different in model, animations etc, you still call them a reskinned humanoid. And now its clear that this is very different from SWTOR races, you now start to argue semantics.
