Good luck with that!  I wonder what the monthly fee will be.

It sold out in 5 hours. Apparently, no luck is needed.

Yeah, apparently did he not count with the fact that Star wars fans spends 150 bucks on a fake lightsaber to hang on the wall (in the original packing), compared to that this is a bargain.

Star wars fans just have way too much money to buy junk for, and we can't really blame EA for using that fact.

Ok, this is from someone who paid a thousand bucks for a real sword to hang on his wall, but at least that one is real, handcrafted and made for combat, great when the zombie invasion start. ;)

What about Star Trek fans who have phaser replica on their wall? Should they have bought a real sword too? Even if they dont give a crap about real swords? I bought a bear statue which stands next to my door, should I have bought a real sword to hang on my wall instead?

Your treasure is junk to me, works both ways btw. And utterly useless trying to convince someone to change their mind about their junks and treasures, there's not even any point to do so. Just saying dont buy it if it's not a bargain to you, to many it is, and they dont listen or care for others opinions about it, and I'm happy for them about that.

This comes from someone who has bought 7 CE mmorpg titles (not even fan of any of them) the last 7 years, in most of the games I hardly even finished the first free month, I just bought the CE's because it's not a big deal to me and it's fun to have junk. Try to tell me why I shouldnt have bought them and I'll just facepalm :)

I applaud EA for their pre-release marketing skills.  This is why I LOVE CAPITALISM.  Everything in that CE box cost maybe $5 to produce, aside from the game itself, and they'll make millions off of it.  I'll be interested to see how many pre-orders they sell overall.  My guess is 500-750k.

For those of you who enjoy the game from day 1 (or before day one, for pre-ordering), congrats.  For those of you who bought the $150 CE box and find out that you hate the game, you've successfully upheld the integrity of the old saying, "There's a fool around every corner."

But hey, at least you'll have your awesome plastic statue to...um...what exactly the hell do you do with that damn thing?  I mean, seriously, if you leave that stupid thing out in plain sight, and you manage to bring home some girl to your place (or sneak her into your mom's house =P) the second she sees that, your chances of getting any will drop faster than Obama's job approval rating....oh...sorry, I derailed a bit there.

Anyway, good luck to all who pre-ordered, I hope you find your new MMO-crack of choice, LOL.

Well, the Gentle Giant Statues (which this one is) are not cheap plastic peices of crap. They are quite nice, as I have one sitting about 3 feet from me. And as for your 'bring a girl home' comment, it was my wife and daughter who gave it to me for my birthday 2 weeks ago.

    Cheers!

Why do you judge other people? I see nothing wrong with buying a fake lightsaber, just like I see nothing wrong with buying a sex doll or a real-fake sword, or a real real sword for that matter.

It reminds me of this comic:

I don't know how playing a Star Wars MMO is any less nerdy than owning a Star Wars statue. Your chances of getting any are still slim unless you lie to the girl about how cool and happening you really are but in reality you are just a video game nerd like everyone else and lied to get laid? hmmm..sad and ironic isn't it?

So moral of the story do not judge others unless you want to be judged yourself.

Uh-oh.  It appears I've tripped the NerdRage alarm.

Before you get your Luke Skywalker undies in a twist, apparently I didn't specify clearly enough that I have not, nor would I, pre-order a game, like I wouldn't buy a car without test-driving it first.  I don't piss money away on overhyped fads.  I am a SW fan, but I am a gamer first, and I've yet to see anything about TOR that would give me reason to believe it will be anything so mindblowingly amazing that I'd shell out $150 for the game and some silly tchotchkies, nor even $60.

My GF knows I like SW, but I'm not going around placing SW toys on our coffee table, and if I did, I'd have to kick my own ass.  There is a major difference between playing video games and displaying plastic collectible dolls.

And to the other poster crying about this:  I think it's adorable that your daughter helped buy you a collectible doll.  I'm sure that you will return the favor on her birthday, although I'd suggest you get her a princess Leia rather than a sith lord.  That could potentially cause developmental problems.

My point was simply that people will spend money based on hype, which EA has built up brilliantly for this game.  The fact that the CE sold out on Origin within a few hours is a testament to this.  But there are guaranteed to be people who paid for all those bells and whistles based on that hype who will ultimately be dissapointed with the game.  Those people will then be left with the unused game disks, a map of a game they quit playing, a CD of music from that game, and a plastic "statue."  What I stated about the toy was purely a joke, which got you defensive awfully quickly.

So moral of the story:  Find a sense of humor.

As a Dane I simply couldn't afford the CE edition because of the currency differences. The items were interesting, but I like to have a 'clean' experience with no extras whatsoever. Everything but the CE shop seems fine and okay, so I have no problems with it, but i'll keep to Standard edition for the sake of immersion. That's how I am ;)

That 'find sense of humor' was a nice spin even though you tried to generalise everyone in one single post. I am married by the way and the reason i bought CE is not because i care for the statue because i am a collector and always go for CE if i am interested in the game.

I see that you tried to insult me once again in a back handed manner but no worries, i was expecting that. And from where i stand i see no difference in playing a Star Wars MMO or displaying that Star Wars statue and no way one can claim to be any less of a nerd in case the girl you brought home finds out about it (but then again she is not the right girl to be with if she doesn't accept you for who you are). Yes whole scenario is silly but then your whole post was silly to begin with and made with sole purpose to insult anyone who got CE edition.

My sense of humor is just fine; no issues there. And I was not being defensive, nor crying about anything (although i t seems you are quite defensive if you attempt to blindly insult others). I was informing you of the quality of the statues that company produces, and make up a large portion of the CE cost.  I believe a large chunk of those who got the CE are those who normally collect these types of items tobegin with. And no, I didn't get the CE.  For me, it wasn't justifiable.

But I don't think my daughter would want a Leia statue, she would probably rather have an R2, or maybe a Jawa one though.

So I bought 2 CE's...I never looked at a CE before.  I thought $150 was the normal price of these things.  I'm actually intending to sell these if this game is a cult classic.  How much do you think I'll be able to get for these things down the road?

I was thinking about buying  a 3rd for myself.  The only thing I want is the mount.  But we hae no info on this mount which is frustrating.  I guess I can get the standard edition and run everywhere for 20 levels.(SWG gave you a mount at level 5 or something...just saying)

The ONE thing missing from this pre-order are custom weapons.  They should have thrown in a jedi hilt, a blaster and a sniper rifle that looks different.

  • demonte87demonte87 Member UncommonPosts: 2

I think all this crying is stimulated about one thing that is offered in the CE thats the ingame shop which people believe they will miss out on. If the ingame shop was offered with the DDE everyone would talk about the game not having an Open Beta. Now with that said I GOT MY CE lmao so i aint gonna miss nothing lol. o Continue on the subject.

I think the difference is that to you  $150 is a lot of money. So I can understand you wanting to save it for things that are more valuable in your eyes.

To me at least $150 isn't even a days worth of work. To each thier own.

Ah, clever move.  You could double your money by selling them a before the game releases.  There will be plenty of people who missed out on buying the CE, and are so hard up for this game that they'll actually pay $300 for the extra tchotchkies.  Unload them fast though, because those boxes sold so fast that EA is bound to see if they can pull that rabbit out of their hat twice before the game launches.

From the info it sounds like the STAP is more or less just a vanity item, it doesn't state that it's faster or has anything special, just that it's exclusive.  From what I gather, everything being offered in the pre-release are just for show, except possibly the special vendor items.

Once again you are assuming that my reply to you has anything to do with my own self worth but it has everything to do with your generalisation and calling CE buyers foolish on top of that setereotyping them into doll collecting nerds who would have hard time getting laid. Please do not try to put this on me.

I'm okay with the price of the item becaues if you break it down it's not actually that bad.

First off i'm going with physical items.

The gentle giant statue is marked at $75.

If your curious as to retail price this is something close to the 75 mark i could find that looked similar http://www.gentlegiantltd.com/product_p/11697.htm Just to show i'm not just picking some figure out of the sky. That 75 dollars is gentle giants retail mark if you have issues with that, then it's gentle giants' pricing you have a problem with not Bioware's pricing.

That brings the 150 mark down to 75.

Then lets take the retail price of the game at $60.

Here is the link to the retail price at amazon http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Old-Republic-Pc/dp/B001CWXAP2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1311339453&sr=8-2

That brings it to the new prices of $15.

Then lets take the price of the authenticator which i'm marking at $5 (sorry i don't have a link for this, but Blizzard sold theirs for $7 dollars so i marked it down 2 dollars so the math would stay easy)

That brings it to the new prices of $10

That means for 10 dollars you get the in game store, the early acces, the crystal, driods and all the other stuff that comes with it. Not a bad deal really if you look at it. What needs to be decided is if all the virtual stuff is worth that cost to you as those don't have a market retail value to judge against.

Edited it to make the post look better.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

BTW, I should add that I bought it about 20 seconds after seeing the announcement.  Why?  Bioware, Star Wars, and CE are all my cup of tea.

In retrospect, I think my estimate of 5 million customers in the first three months was a low ball figure.

way overpriced for my taste, I will just pre order a standard edition from my local Best Buywhen the release gets closer.

90 bucks for a fancy box and some virtual items that I would ooooh and ahhh over for 30 seconds is ridiculous.

    I miss DAoC

This simple statement pretty much sums up this whole argument...

Don't like the $150 price tag?  Then don't buy the CE, and don't judge people who do.

My guess is half the haters here are teens whose parent's won't give them the cash to buy the CE.  The other half are likely lazy adults who can't be bothered to get off their arse and get a job to be able to afford it.

The only explaination for all the hate for the CE is jealousy.  Why else would people get so passionate over something they don't want anyway...

    i dont get it really

people will always complain about something,

Thing is 149.99 is a normal price for a collectors edition. To say that a mmo isnt worth it  is just down right stupid. An mmo is worht more than other games because for one, they get a constant on going stream of updates and fixes where eventually those come to an end for shooters and other games.  Mmos have more dollar value than non mmos and they cost more and take longer to develop.

EA/Bioware has spent over 100 million usd to develop this game. the game is definatly worth the cost.

200 + hours of UNIQUE game play per ADVANCED CLASS!

    thats 3200 hours

    kotor 1 and 2 had 20-30

the price is WAAYYYY worth it.

I agree, you have an option here. I would like to buy the CE but i do find it expensive so ill just buy the Deluxe edition without complaining. What i do not like is the extra 5$ to pre-order from Origin.
