At 5:59 in the transcripts, it says exactly as the thread title says. According to the video, which sites a interview with BHS, the Elin were censored because they did not want to upset churches and femenists. If you can kind of break up the German on the screen, it said the head guy pushes for it.
I thought I would just re-post this here since it seems EME has taken to HIDING posts now instead of just locking them and moving them and this one was hidden on their site.

My 2 cents is this pretty much sucks, that they would tip toe around femenists and religion in this time period. It's the old days game censorship era all over again.

That was an interesting video with tons of infos.
I do hope that there'll be a way to unlock the original Elin by using another key or something. The video also stated that its not yet clear what they'll change about the Elin.

To westernize this game properly, the developers should have developed SEPARATE armor sets for all the races - ones that make characters NOT look like they just been to a sex shop.

It doesn't surpise me, have you see the violence people have in this web site about the elin race, calling it pedophilia and such. That's the one thing I didn't understand when I moved from Europe to USA. How is it that a nude or semi nude female body or male body is soo wrong. Before you start labeling people as pedo this or that, have you ever been to the beach? Have you seen an underage girl there in a skimpy bikini? Did you feel lke you're now a pedophile because you looked at her? Well I sure as hell haven't, and what's the difference between that and watching a "make belive" video game character on your computer screen once in a while showing her underwear. I see nothing wrong with that.
Nudity in Europe is pretty normal, more normal than blood and guts and heads exploding which for some reason is quite okay here. But oh no little Timmy sees a part of a nipple somewhere and is scarred for life, and now we need to have a vote in Congress.
It's because of the sub cultures that helped make up the US when the land was first being colonized. A lot of religous groups were part of the founding of this country.

Being in the arts I don't have any issues with nudity, even when children are depicted as nude. I'm sure you can attest to the numerous fountains of "young boys" in the image of fauns, all nude, all around certain cities in europe.
I know there is a modern painter that paints young, post adolescent girls that would definitely raise the eyebrows of many people. I believe MOMA has one of his paintings. The name escapes me [edit: it is "Balthus" - Balthasar Klossowski -, just found the painting) but i do remember being surprised when seeing it.
For me the problem isn't depicting young boys and girls nude or in various states of undress, possibly even in poses or situations suggesting that sexuality will eventually be a part of the subject's lexicon of behaviors.
For me the issue is solely depicting young people as sex objects for the express interest of exploiting them for prurient desires.
I realize that the line can be a hard one to draw as art isn't just about pretty pictures that people hang over their sofa. It's supposed to challenge and take people to places where they might not be comfortable. But unfortunatley many people haven't been exposed to enough art where they are comfortable with the challenge even if they aren't comfortable with the subject.

The real stupidity of all this is that the people who make up these feminist organizations and churches are most likely comprised of people who would never play this game or for that matter any mmorpg or even computer games in general.

Years ago when I first saw Sailor Moon on the television I thought to myself that the people who created this show and those who enjoyed its art work must have something wrong with them.
Call it puritanical or whatever, but you should never find yourself lusting after children, be it on the beach or in an animated show or game.
And I think you'll find that its not just religious groups and feminists who are offended by nude depictions of children in anything outside of pure art, and as someone mentioned that is a very fine line sometimes.
I look at i more simplisitic, keep the sex out of my MMORPG's, if we're fighting to the death you'd better be wearing some sort of armor that makes sense, a bikini thong chainmail set never cuts it.

THis millions of times. The last thing I want to see in mmorpg is someone's naked bodies. If there's a need for that - there's entire porno industry at service.
I play mmo's for immersion and playing. And seeing a "tank" with bare-chest or miniskirt sex-shop clothing, takes away any sort of immersion possible. NOt to mention that its completely tasteless and pointless design decision.

I like skimpy clothes in my games, on MATURE bodies. Now, in Asia that loli would be the money maker, besides blonde big boobed warriors in skimpy clothes. I don't look at the loli and scream "grabbing my WOOD." Anyone who does is sick, so in return I will answer this. I like my woman who looks around 20-ish or so, and even then it's picky for my sprite aka avatar. I want it to look sexy, so it can attract a party easier. I play male and female avatars. Lolis are ok with clothes, but as far as they did with Tera and adding all the details just made me want to avoid the class. Nothing personal, it's just that I don't find myself attracted to kids, like they were in the old days marrying at 12 and such. We forget where we came from, and we even forget that if it wasn't for some over the top fantaical people, we would still be marrying at 12 years old.
I struggle not with life, money, emotions, and world, but against old mindsets and selves to be proven obsolete in a age and time of rapid changes. Go create fun, so you can have fun.
Not that I think that the borderline pedophelia that some cultures seem to love is alright, but I love how genocide, mass slaughter, blood, gore and ultra-violence is OK, but seeing a little bare skin is going to send me straight to Hell... Hypocrites.

Well I agree with you with the nudity part, because people here overact way too much to that. But, as for the elin, underage girls at the beach aren't being sexualized(well i would certainly hope not). They are simply at the beach. The elin are purposefully being sexualized to capitalize on an oversea obsession with loli's. And a lot of their armour really isn't too bad, but some of it just wouldn't fly here without bad press. I think the idea of a 'child-like' race in a MMO is rather novel. I have no desire to see them running around in thongs, but f it happened it doesn't bother me either. Being naked, at any age, is completely natural. It is us human beings who have made it something dirty, lewd and 'evil'.
I have no problem with sex in games. Sex is just sex. One of my favourite things, in fact, whether it be the actual act, art, porn, virtual, whatever.

I'm playing mortal online right now, and when people don't have armour, they're completely naked. Man junk and everything. Seeing bare skin is not the problem. Age of Conan has nudity as well. The problem is with young underage girls.
Violence isn't taboo. Underage sexualized children is. And it's really all thats to it. The dev's and publisher don't want bad press, and in this day in age matured women with skimpy cloths doesn't really cause too many problems, and violence doesn't either. But these children would.
Srry for the double post. But to my knowledge, this is what their doing. Those images around the net of the "cencorship" are fake, and last i read they said they where changing some of the armour and their features to make it more appropriate.
Well that's a good step then. They're being sensitive to some people's concerns and making adjustments. Good for them.

And really, I can't help but feel that a lot of it is faux outrage is from people who are really just looking for their moment on the soap-box.
