being nude doesn't necessarily = sex to me. People (at least people that bathe) get naked a lot without having sex.
BUT my friends and girlfriend would make fun of me for playing those elin things. And I'd have no defense to it.

Hey i have to agree on you with this in all honesty. I personally think it is stupid to have the Elin race look so much as a real child, they should have some wings or whatever imo. But i guess in Asia, they have so much of those drawing that they probably don't care or don't do the difference anymore. But when those are ported here in the west, people are just like WTF?.

I looked at the transcript in the video you linked, and it is a vague statement written by the fansite guy. It is not attributing the statement to either BHS or Frogster and doesn't even claim that either one ever said it. While it's excellent bait (fiminists and the Church oppressing us!) for the avergage online gamer, I'd be really interested in seeing more concrete quotes or links regarding the claims you are making in the OP. I'm not saying you're not telling the truth, just that there is absolutely nothing in your post to indicate what is or isn't truth.

Japanese culture is rather more fascinated with youth than ours is.

That's really all I see happening here. The art style is definitely Japanese, very Sailor Moon. Different values from a different culture.

They wouldn't go that far, but to look at an Elin v. my main toon, a big green male orc or my main alt, a female adult human with armor that covers her vital organs, they'd just laugh at me.
Compare to action movies, (which is the more apt comparison for non-gaming friends) if they saw me watching Resident Evil with kevlar and leather wearing Milla Jovovich and she declined to accept the part for the next sequel and they replaced her with Abigail Breslin http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1113550/ what would they think?

The judgement call that you're making is a subjective one, and people are allowed to disagree with it.
I don't see anything in any of those photos that depicts underage girls as sex objects. I do see a very odd fascination with panties, but that is the compositor's issue.
I see an anime art style that's been popular in Japan for at least 40 years.

That it's been popular in Japan doesn't make ok, or less harmful. Tradition is often an antithesis of ethics.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

We'll go around on this issue for days, your threshold of what constitutes "sexual" activity is simply much lower than mine. The judgement is entirely subjective, it cannot ever be anything else.
Tradition is the basis of ethics, by the way. Without tradition you'd have no mores and no morality, and no unwritten rules to build your ethics around. This is why culturally relative ethics exist. It's why National Geographic can portray African women walking about topless, but cannot portay American women doing the same.

Pardon my stunned response, but guess its just clear that we are at odds on just about every level.
It isn't about whether I personally have a panty fetish. It's more that I know panties are often considered sexual, especially when designed specifically to be. e.g. Lingerie and such. Old Navy may sell bikinies for toddlers, but if they were thongs, or made of lace or leather, that would be different. It is very much about context and detail, as sexuality often is for many people. It's often about intent, and the sexual intent of some of Tera's design is pretty clear to me.
As for tradition and ethics, I just couldn't disagree more. My own sense of ethics has to do with compassion, and what I percieve as harmful, in the short term and longterm, directly and indirectly. It has to do with assessing interaction between people, given any and all available factors, to the best of my ability. i.e. What hurts people, what helps them, etc.

It's a clearly fictional image (not trying to look hyper realistic) of basically what they call a petite adult, which exist in real life and are easily findable with a simple google search. Yet people are comparing it to real life children being taken advantage of, which frankly I am finding disturbing. I also find disturbing that a lot of people objecting to this are seeing these images and thinking 'child porn' when it clearly isn't.
Seriously if they think this stuff is the equal of child pornography they must lose their friggin minds when kids in bathing suits are at public pools.
In my country and most european countries you see topless girls and women everytime you go on a beach.

I was commenting on the fact that people seem to have moral issues with the "adult" characters in skimpy armor as well, not that the "child porn" stuff was OK... I see plenty of examples in all societies where any kind of adult nudity/sexuality is taboo but violence is perfectly fine and even glorified. Not that I agree with any of those points of view, but violence is far more accepted than adult sexuality, especially in the west. I just find that hypocritical as hell. I'm an equal opportunity godless heathen (child porn is still bad regardless).

Admitingly in some countries including mine porn with an adult that looks like a minor is still illigal and believe me I am living in a pretty liberal country when it comes to sex and nudity (the Netherlands).
Seems like they'd be pretty difficult cases to prosecute.
Show the jury an image. "How old does she look to you?" Get a dozen different answers.

i havent seen any priest hanged in the middle of town square after raping kids...... so please keep those comments out of Tera's way because its pretty normal... its a video game with good graphics.... i bet if it was a 2000 game with crappy graphics details noone would say anything about the Elin.... and remember, theres Freedom in America... noone cares about what church says about a video game. Frogster just sux for doing that...
i dont mind playing Elin with Full armor, its just a game that anyone would enjoy. but like i said... if the church wants to curse Tera for having Elin race wearing bikini armor... they better start by hanging their pedophile priests first...

The development of the thighs shows that the Elins depicted in that pics are, in fact adults of their species in reproductive age.
And they are warriors/sorcerers/assasins or such, so they must have studied combat or magic arts for years. They are young adults.
The point with child pornography is that real world children is being harmed in the production of it. No real children was harmed during TERA's Elin race design and modeling. So its fine.
And, they don't look like children, but at most like teenagers. Children, anatomically doesn't have any body fat redistribution relative to their gender, but those Elin have a very distinctive feminine shape.
A similar issue happened some years ago in AIKA NA because of Clerics being breastless and having see-thru underwear, and because of the 'Sexy' personality of the nymph companions. I simply don't get it. It's a game, a fantasy setting. If you can't tell the difference between what you see in a screen and how reality works, you have serious issues.

Putting restrictions on games might be good, but then you should avoid also all the other subjects, hiding in shadows to jump out and slice someone's throat is not so legal for example, sitting on a roof with a sniper rifle in yr hand to oneshot dudes isn't legal either..unless you'r in an army, but that doesn't make it right the same (imo of course)

I see highly stylized and clearly fictitious fantasy characters wearing skimpy armor/gear in a video game. But then, I don't go looking for pedophilia when it isn't there. My brain isn't wired that way.
That you see it to be "depicting children as sex objects", when there's nothing sexual going on, or even implied in those shots, really makes me wonder what's going on in your head.
Do you freak out every time you see a woman wearing tight shorts, or low-cut tops in real life? Do you freak out when you see teenage children - or younger - wearing two-piece bikinis at the beach? Are they "being depicted as sexual objects" in that scenario? Because they're wearing just as little, if not less, clothing than in any screenshot I've seen yet.
Again... For people to see "sexual exploitation of children" in screenshots that do not depict either really says more about the individual who *sees* such a thing, than it does about the picture itself.
So the more pertinent question to me is, what's going on in your mind that you're pre-disposed to see "sexual exploitation of children" in something that depicts neither children, nor sexual activity of any kind?
Per my example of Dee Snider before Congress in an earlier post, it seems to me that you're looking for sexual child exploitation in those pics... and so that's what you're finding.
