However, that being said, I'd feel very embarassed if someone walked in and saw me playing a game with toon's like that, they'd think I was a pedo.
So you have to give yourself the "awkward" test.
Could you look at screen shots and/or video of these characters in front of your co-workers, family, and friends without being uncomfortable, embarassed, and creeping them out slightly?
If the answer is no, then it's probably not appropriate content for whatever society you reside in.

It doesn't surpise me, have you see the violence people have in this web site about the elin race, calling it pedophilia and such. I personally think its ok and i don't mind it a second, but some people saem to have a broom in the ass. Also i think its stupid to censor this because of so called organizations, nha they did it to avoid any negative advertising that it would generate.
It's not just "calling it pedophilia" to be extreme or anything. It is a whole other issue than the normal sex in video games thing. How is it that some people can't get that through their heads? If you think pedophilia is just a harsh word for healthy sexuality, you need serious help.
The way I see it, there's nothing wrong with encouraging normal sexuality, with gratuitous imagery and such. And even if there were, censoring it wouldn't change anything. It'd just frustrate a lot of people who like something that is healthy and pretty much just way people are.
Sexualizing a little kid-like race, though? That encourages a blurring of lines that isn't healthy at all. One could make a case for it being somewhat normal, moreso in some cultures than others, but the problem is that it's dangerous and harmful. Hey i have to agree on you with this in all honesty. I personally think it is stupid to have the Elin race look so much as a real child, they should have some wings or whatever imo. But i guess in Asia, they have so much of those drawing that they probably don't care or don't do the difference anymore. But when those are ported here in the west, people are just like WTF?.
At 5:59 in the transcripts, it says exactly as the thread title says. According to the video, which sites a interview with BHS, the Elin were censored because they did not want to upset churches and femenists.
I looked at the transcript in the video you linked, and it is a vague statement written by the fansite guy. It is not attributing the statement to either BHS or Frogster and doesn't even claim that either one ever said it. While it's excellent bait (fiminists and the Church oppressing us!) for the avergage online gamer, I'd be really interested in seeing more concrete quotes or links regarding the claims you are making in the OP. I'm not saying you're not telling the truth, just that there is absolutely nothing in your post to indicate what is or isn't truth.

Japanese culture is rather more fascinated with youth than ours is.
"Girlish youth and innocence are considered sexy in Japan, a culture with a long history of regarding women more as sex toys than as people. This obsession with untouched adolescence results in the sad sight of women in their thirties emitting girlish giggles and clutching teddy bears in an effort to maintain their appeal to the opposite sex. Although it can fairly be said Western society also prizes youth in a woman, there the fascination has to do more with the looks of a girl than it does with her immaturity and presumed sexual innocence. A pretty 26-year-old who would be considered lovely in the West would in Japan be viewed by many as hopelessly long in the tooth.
Western society looks for firm, youthful bodies housing the attitudes of grown women — we like them young, but we don't like them to act young. In the West, a teen's sex appeal is dependent upon her ability to look and act much older, thus the fascination with makeup and plunging necklines, accoutrements that make her appear less of a child and more of a woman. In Japan, this ideal is reversed — sexy in the Land of the Rising Sun adds up to childlike behavior and modes of dress that express this ideal. Sometimes this amounts to the adoption of clothing styles highly reminiscent of high school uniforms, but even when a girl dons an evening gown, she will strive to look like a kinderling caught parading in Mom's finery. Likewise, childish outbursts, pouting, and tantrums are viewed as charmingly erotic because such actions work to further the violated schoolgirl image."--Snopes.com

I don't see anything in any of those photos that depicts underage girls as sex objects. I do see a very odd fascination with panties, but that is the compositor's issue.

Point to any one of those images where any of those girls are engaged in anything even remotely sexual? Are panties sexual to you?
We'll go around on this issue for days, your threshold of what constitutes "sexual" activity is simply much lower than mine. The judgement is entirely subjective, it cannot ever be anything else.
Tradition is the basis of ethics, by the way. Without tradition you'd have no mores and no morality, and no unwritten rules to build your ethics around. This is why culturally relative ethics exist. It's why National Geographic can portray African women walking about topless, but cannot portay American women doing the same.

It's a clearly fictional image (not trying to look hyper realistic) of basically what they call a petite adult, which exist in real life and are easily findable with a simple google search. Yet people are comparing it to real life children being taken advantage of, which frankly I am finding disturbing. Not that I think that the borderline pedophelia that some cultures seem to love is alright, but I love how genocide, mass slaughter, blood, gore and ultra-violence is OK, but seeing a little bare skin is going to send me straight to Hell... Hypocrites.
I'm playing mortal online right now, and when people don't have armour, they're completely naked. Man junk and everything. Seeing bare skin is not the problem. Age of Conan has nudity as well. The problem is with young underage girls.
Violence isn't taboo. Underage sexualized children is. And it's really all thats to it. The dev's and publisher don't want bad press, and in this day in age matured women with skimpy cloths doesn't really cause too many problems, and violence doesn't either. But these children would.
I was commenting on the fact that people seem to have moral issues with the "adult" characters in skimpy armor as well, not that the "child porn" stuff was OK... I see plenty of examples in all societies where any kind of adult nudity/sexuality is taboo but violence is perfectly fine and even glorified. Not that I agree with any of those points of view, but violence is far more accepted than adult sexuality, especially in the west. I just find that hypocritical as hell. I'm an equal opportunity godless heathen (child porn is still bad regardless).

It IS pedophilia. No way to whitewash it. Anyone who is attracted to a body of a 12 year old child and FEEL THE NEED to see it almost naked should be hanged in the middle of town square.
i havent seen any priest hanged in the middle of town square after raping kids...... so please keep those comments out of Tera's way because its pretty normal... its a video game with good graphics.... i bet if it was a 2000 game with crappy graphics details noone would say anything about the Elin.... and remember, theres Freedom in America... noone cares about what church says about a video game. Frogster just sux for doing that...
i dont mind playing Elin with Full armor, its just a game that anyone would enjoy. but like i said... if the church wants to curse Tera for having Elin race wearing bikini armor... they better start by hanging their pedophile priests first...
edit: also why dont they say anything about the castanics? super hot horned girls named castanics...... lets breakdown.... castanic + horns, redish skin = satanic..... and nobody has said anything...
The development of the thighs shows that the Elins depicted in that pics are, in fact adults of their species in reproductive age.
And they are warriors/sorcerers/assasins or such, so they must have studied combat or magic arts for years. They are young adults.
The point with child pornography is that real world children is being harmed in the production of it. No real children was harmed during TERA's Elin race design and modeling. So its fine.
And, they don't look like children, but at most like teenagers. Children, anatomically doesn't have any body fat redistribution relative to their gender, but those Elin have a very distinctive feminine shape.
A similar issue happened some years ago in AIKA NA because of Clerics being breastless and having see-thru underwear, and because of the 'Sexy' personality of the nymph companions. I simply don't get it. It's a game, a fantasy setting. If you can't tell the difference between what you see in a screen and how reality works, you have serious issues.
Pedophilia is bad we all agree on that (i hope) , playin a tailed creature who looks like a kid in a fantasy setting computer game is not pedophilia, still i agree is dangerously close to it..and what makes it so close? the mind of the player in front of the screen.
Putting restrictions on games might be good, but then you should avoid also all the other subjects, hiding in shadows to jump out and slice someone's throat is not so legal for example, sitting on a roof with a sniper rifle in yr hand to oneshot dudes isn't legal either..unless you'r in an army, but that doesn't make it right the same (imo of course)
goin on like this we'll be forced to play just some SIMesque game
that said , again don't see the need to show undies on an armored/fighting toon, but that's just me, if i want to fap i can find better porno, if i want to get laid...well i turn off my pc and start playin with my gf
cya
p.s. besides no one should be hanged anywhere, killing someone is WRONG always, even if it's a state doin it, but that's again imo
I could not care less what church does or doesn't. I don't belong to any church but I find depicting children as sex objects not only disgusting but also criminal. This is not only pixels we are talking about here, it's a moral issue. If clothing those characters in TERA makes even one pervert not playing this game it's a good thing.
I see highly stylized and clearly fictitious fantasy characters wearing skimpy armor/gear in a video game. But then, I don't go looking for pedophilia when it isn't there. My brain isn't wired that way.
That you see it to be "depicting children as sex objects", when there's nothing sexual going on, or even implied in those shots, really makes me wonder what's going on in your head.
Do you freak out every time you see a woman wearing tight shorts, or low-cut tops in real life? Do you freak out when you see teenage children - or younger - wearing two-piece bikinis at the beach? Are they "being depicted as sexual objects" in that scenario? Because they're wearing just as little, if not less, clothing than in any screenshot I've seen yet.
Again... For people to see "sexual exploitation of children" in screenshots that do not depict either really says more about the individual who *sees* such a thing, than it does about the picture itself.
So the more pertinent question to me is, what's going on in your mind that you're pre-disposed to see "sexual exploitation of children" in something that depicts neither children, nor sexual activity of any kind?
Per my example of Dee Snider before Congress in an earlier post, it seems to me that you're looking for sexual child exploitation in those pics... and so that's what you're finding.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Admitingly in some countries including mine porn with an adult that looks like a minor is still illigal and believe me I am living in a pretty liberal country when it comes to sex and nudity (the Netherlands).
Seems like they'd be pretty difficult cases to prosecute.
Show the jury an image. "How old does she look to you?" Get a dozen different answers.

i havent seen any priest hanged in the middle of town square after raping kids...... so please keep those comments out of Tera's way because its pretty normal... its a video game with good graphics.... i bet if it was a 2000 game with crappy graphics details noone would say anything about the Elin.... and remember, theres Freedom in America... noone cares about what church says about a video game. Frogster just sux for doing that...
i dont mind playing Elin with Full armor, its just a game that anyone would enjoy. but like i said... if the church wants to curse Tera for having Elin race wearing bikini armor... they better start by hanging their pedophile priests first...
edit: also why dont they say anything about the castanics? super hot horned girls named castanics...... lets breakdown.... castanic + horns, redish skin = satanic..... and nobody has said anything...
freedom!!!
Supremme court means nohing to me. I dont care what its members think about porno.
Us laws are only for us territories.
What is considered porn in Usa is not in another countries.
Some Us states still have stupid sex-laws llike you cant do some things with your wifey even if she agrees to do them. Think is in texas.
Dont want to be nore specific.
Are you sure that in the netherlands having sex with an adult that looks like a kid is prosecuted?
A country where you can smoke drugs, and prostitution is legal?
Sounds weird.
What happens then if you get laid with a minor that looks like an adult? nothing? it has no logic.
Besides if she is adult. IS ADULT.
Or netherlands change the laws depending on how young people looks.
Oh no!!!!!!! JUSTIN BIEBER!!!!!!!
If you can't tell the difference between what you see in a screen and how reality works, you have serious issues.
meh what a ruckus
