Honestly? until they give me another way to progress my character other than WF farming and Raiding they could have 10 million subs and i wouldnt give a toss...

Rift has 60 servers... 2/3 of those are on medium/high almost round the clock with the others hitting medium/high during primetime.

Yes they lost customers but they've already stated that Rift has had over 2 million accounts open back in april.

THis 1 million users is actually active or maybe active + trials and that would still be great.

it's a pretty good MMO in all fairness its just too much like every other mmo i have played i.e. wow copy for my tastes yes it has some innovations , the rifts themselves give people live events , and the soul system is pretty inovative but for me personally neither of those features was enough to keep me playing.  People that say this is a horrible MMO are off base its not but if your looking for a genre breaking MMO is not , its what we have been getting for a long time with a few unique twists which are pretty good

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Bought it, played it, left after 6 months. Just didn't have enough content to really keep me hooked. Still, it is a well polished MMO with few major bugs.

rift is dead on with Aion according to xfire and we all know Aion doesnt have 1 million sub, its probably around 250k or less.

They probabaly had over a million customers.

Most of the credible stuff that I read had 750k copies sold that first month,(thought there was a Trion executive statement around that time that they did between 700k and 800k) with over 1 million account created. Would not surprise me if an additional 250k people picked up and tried the game anytime in the last 5.5 months.

Retention though is a different story, most estimates I've seen put it somewhere between 300-400k, but until Trion says for sure, anything anyone says is a guess. Somehow I just cant believe they have more than 500k going right now, and the 300k to 400k sounds like it might be reasonable accurate. Which honestly isnt a bad showing for Rift. Seems like Trion did pretty well. (even if I'm not a fan, have to admit they did okay)

Agree completely, I got three months of enjoyment out of it and I like Trion, good at communication and responding to their player base.

This was just announced at gamescom and said current.  They are also saying they are the second largest MMO in the West.

So they are either lying or you aren't accepting the truth.  The actual article is from a competitor that I don't know if I can link here.

What will happen in the future?  *shrug*

They just said they have over 1 million users.

To me a "user" isnt someone who cancelled his account.

What we dont know is if trion counts Active trials.

If they do then the number is lower, not much but it is.

Also THey had 2 million "accounts" like two months ago. So it would make no sense in bringing up 1 million if they werent active.

2nd largest in the West? LMFAO!

LotRo is bigger for sure. Before going F2P it already had more players than RIFT has now (thanks to EU playerbase). 3rd in line? Not realy IMO. GuildWars is a Western product as well and has 1M+ active players (5M+ sold copies ifn ot more).

Perhaps RIFT is 4th in place now, but WTH. AoC once had a bigger playerbase than LotRo as well, and look where it's now.

Other point... PROOF IN NUMBERS PLEASE! I rly wanna see an audit on that 1M+ player base now. I bet they won't even get 300K subscribed players now (I bet they counted all trial players in that 1M+...)

launched with 99 servers and down to 64 servers, mostly low/medium population.

    lol, nice marketing BS.

    Now dont be silly.

Lotro had at most 250k subs before its shift to F2p. it was just under EvE which had around 340k, Aoc was near death between 50k-75k subs.

Who knows now that Lotro & AoC are F2p.

    Check mmo chart sites.

They opened free transfers, so everyone moved around to fill up the other 60+ servers. Trion disabled character creation on the others and uses them for test shards and trial character creation.

Everyone know Rift lost subs, the remaining servers are all very healthy population wise.

Believe me Rift is as far from death as you could get so dont go blowing up the reduction in servers like the end is near.

Myself, 2 person friends and about 8 others from a Wow guild came to Rifts. All bought multi-month subs so many, including myself still have active subs ...

... and NONE of us play Rifts anymore. All quit within 1.5 months of release.

So chock us up in the stats ... but the stats lie as to who actually 'plays' Rifts.

    You stay sassy!

Unless your name is Blizzard and your game is named World of Warcraft you will be forced to PR spin retention rates. Everyone will have to do it, even our buddies at Bioware and A-net.

Because of WoW if a game loses subs at all or isnt above millions of subs its a failure which is complete bullshit.

Fuck man i dont even like rift right now, im pissed that i have nothing to do in the game but i wont sit by as morons call it a dead game lol.

I think you should re-read what he said.

He did NOT say that they have over 1 million users.

If he said they have over 1 million active users/accounts, then I'd agree with you. Thing is he did not say that. (The other thing I'd do is call shens on them having that many.) Honestly, if Rift has been growing (and 1 million would be up over the 750k-850k number that they said, why would they reduce 30+% of their server capacity?

Like I said, I'll buy into the 300-400k estimates as they've been fairly credible sounding, and I'd probably put a cap on it at 600k which is still less than lauch.

Frankly, I'd love to see some hard evidence that a subscription based MMO is gaining subs post release again, it's been a long time since we've seen that.

"Rift now has more than 1 million paid users."

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomiogeron/2011/08/11/trion-worlds-takes-up-free-to-play-gaming-model/

This is from Forbes so I think it's okay to link this.

Don't know what that quote actually means, but it does specifically say paid.

There sure are a lot of negative comments about the sub numbers.  Can't anyone be happy about  them having over 1 million active subs without being a dick and attempting to claim ~ well such and such MMO doesn't have that many or this website {xfire, etc} says otherwise as if they know all or are equal, or lastly, "but are those really active accounts they're counting too" sheesh!

I leave you all with this little video...

I'm not saying its dead. Far from it, its a good game. I also don't think a game needs 1 million subscribers to be classed a success. I don't run into 50,000 people let alone 1 million.

But I also won't sit by like morons thinking the game has 1 million subs :) (Not implying you think this)

Thats not good enough because paid users could mean overall box sales (which would be completel bullshit).

You don't like Hammerknell?  I haven't been there yet, but I actually find GP, DH, RoS and GSB a lot of fun.

I basically only raid and I like progression and boss fights so I guess that's why I still play.  Granted my free time is limited so I basically meet for the raids and that's about it.  LOL
