I can come up with many reasons to not like WoW. Pandas just are not on the list. I think passing judgement on this new expansion just because of pandas or the pokemon thing is pretty lame. For all anyone knows this expansion could be what brings WoW in to a new and exciting direction regardless of the Pandas. No one will really know until it launches.

I jizzed in my pants when I first saw a panda in the trailer

You guys are all just ridiculous. I am no wow lover anymore .. but Pandaren have been a part of the story since before most of you even knew what an internet was.

Most of that information has been on wowwiki for years now.

They are even in the books ffs.

Well ... just because there are Gungans in a Star Wars movie, it doesn't mean Bioware should put them in.

I think the Pandaren race is a little silly, Az.

Opinions may vary, but that is mine.

Considering the majority of WOW players are Asian,  I see it more as pandering to the majority.  Will Asians that do not currently play WOW drop what they are playing to play a kung fu panda?  I would imagine Blizz had a pretty good  idea what the answer to that is before going ahead with this expansion.

Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.

Well... looking at the funky owl/bear/deer things you fight in the night-elf area and others, it doesn't seem like a joke to me.  C'mon man... lookit GNOMES and tell me that Pandarens are too silly to be true...

It's just too bad that I'd LOVE to play a monk character, but no way am I playing a stinking panda bear.  Still... can't say blizzard isn't afraid to take risks...

I didn't see any posts where Blizz was accused of making up the race,  just that a few of us find it a silly race and would prefer not to play as one (or in my case play a game where it was even an option to play one).

I grew up on Final Fantasy but after learning that if I wanted to play the mmo's they were making I would have to fight giant lady bugs I took a pass.

I also didn't see many hate posts at all most of the responders to this point seem indifferent as most don't play WOW anymore.  I don't think people should be expected to praise something they are indifferent to simply because it already existed or because you don't see a problem with it.

Yeah.. Pandas get the slap.. but gnomes are ok...?

Gnomes have been respresented by a grand total of 2 units in the entire game history... Both were mechanical... They have been the bottom end slap stick (even by WoW standards) for the entire existence of WoW... But Pandas are the thing that tip you over... To me that is just people looking for a excuse to sooth the fact that they no longer get a stiff wood from the thing they have spent 5-10 years on. It is OK... You do not need to make excuses... No one cares if you just leave.. It is not like WoW have emotions and will be upset if you get jiggy with another MMO:

This have been a good conversation

But so we put that up in there and everyone was like "Oh my God! A PANDA RACE? That's kind of cool!" And I'm like "Are you kidding me, really? You want to see pandas in Warcraft III or whatever?" So, we made like a whole fake April Fools page with different units and all that and people, you know – we thought people would be like "NO WAY!" – and everyone actually liked it and when they found out it was an April Fools joke they were like "Aw, that sucks."

~ Samwise Didier Concept Artist for WoW interviewed January 2008

The guy got creative, rolled some Panda art as a joke and people liked it.  That's how it ended up in the game.

Thats a fair enough opinion, but when I played wow, up until sometime around Ulduaar, every expansion was met with 1000s of posts about pandaren. Gungans, or at least Jar Jar is blamed for the prequels being .. well, insert adjective here ..

The point is, they aren't a joke race. Wisps were used as a joke .. does that mean they should take out all of the whisps in the game, because they are obviously just a joke? Forget that they dispelled archimond, or that the pandaren were in Garithos' Elite Guard and fought the blood elves trying to escape to Outland.

Ugh .. I still know too much about wow !_!

I agree pony, however, if you think that Star Wars is a super mature IP to begin with, you are fooling yourself. In fact, an argument could be easily made, that the IP is directed mainly at youth.

Haven't played wow in years and won't. I always thought the next expansion would have been the emerald dream.
But looking at wow dumb "big shoulders" armor and funny colored blades, this makes sence

I doubt pony was or is under the impression that Star Wars is a mature ip Lucas is a well known panderer to children, let's be honest if he wasn't most of us would have no love for Star Wars to begin with let's remember most of us grew to love the ip as children.  That doesn't change the fact that alot of people now would prefer to not be subjected to some of the more childish elements of the ip whether it's Star Wars Ewoks or WOW's panda's.

You have no idea what the future of ToR holds. I never thought I would see Pink Mando armor with angel wings and halos in SWG...but well there it was one day. Never thought I would see flying cupid Ewoks either.

As long as Star Wars is owned by Lucas there will always be that x factor of stupidity. Don't say it can't happen.

What I'm curious about is what the other race is going to be o-o

Some of you people crack me up. Apparently little green men (goblins) who basically are one big jersey shore reference are not a joke? But kung fu pandas! OMG that's just too much for the serious bizness that is WoW!!!

Can't wait to kick ass with my panda monk =)

Hehe, I am more the geography-recaller. Lore in WOW never really interested me but I can remember almost every inch from the vanilla gameworld.

Anyway, yeah, I understand. They do have a solid foundation in the lore. Still doesn't mean everyone should like 'em though :)

There won't be another race @Razeekster. It's just the panda's and they can join both sides.

I find this to be both hilarious and sad.

People keep saying this is for their asian market etc etc etc ad nasuem. That may be I don't know nor do I really care - but China is what, one expansion behind right now? So this next one will be years before being released per se in asia.

In the meantime I guess they can work on that small inconvience of not being allowed by Chinese law to portray panda's in any type of situation where they can be harmed at all. Due to Panda's being an endangered species etc etc.

Asian marketing just doesn't seem to fit in this case.

I don't play anymore (thank god) and could be wrong. If people want to play with teddy bears that look like they are on some bad acid while whipping out their dino'mon and sunflower'mon pets to fight .... whatever floats your boat. Not worth the price of the download or box IMO.

I hated Blood Elves, and still do. I think they're the worst race in the game. That didn't cause me to whine about it when BC came out. I simply did not play that race.

Maybe Blizzard uses things in game to associate Goblins to Jersey shore but as far as I know Jersey Shore is some crappy mtv or E! show that I doubt many people on here watch that also didn't exist before the year 2000 I'd guess while Goblins have in fact existed in fantasy lore in much the same way with the same look as WOW gives it since I've been playing pnp roleplaying games.

It's awesome that some of you don't object to it but why is it not alright for others to see it as silly and rather avoid the race altogether.

I haven't read a single comment bashing Blizzard for using it just quite a few with an opinion of dislike or indifference and seeing that almost all of us who don't like it have also stated we don't play the game why does it bother those of you who do so much?

And an opinion that differs from your own does not automatically constitute "whining" especially when considering the end of the article asked for our opinions on it......

Pony can speak for itself. I never stated  the maturity level would change facts. However, ponys' point was in reference to a maturity level.

To say that you don't want a game that is already brimming with immature content, to be even (self-percieved) less mature, is kinda like beating a dead horse.

Basically what people are saying is "Everything else in WoW is grown-up and mature content, but Pandas, how could they be so childish".

In other words, some people need to step outside their really narrow-minded POV, and realize that they are already playing a game aimed at youth.

Will hand over my account to my 8 year old, since that's who Blizzard wants in WoW. Please be nice to all the incoming children looking for a fun game, but not old enough for SesameStreet.com

If you'll ask me not so speak for pony I'll go further and ask you not to speak for everyone else which you proceed to do immediately after informing me that pony can speak for himself (ironic isn't it?).

Where in any post until this page where the poster references sesamestreet.com does anyone speak of the maturity?  People simply don't want to play as panda's from what I read some have even eluded that it may have to do with the fact that Blizz has a large asian market but I don't recall maturity being brought into the discussion until now.
