Where in any post until this page where the poster references sesamestreet.com does anyone speak of the maturity? People simply don't want to play as panda's from what I read some have even eluded that it may have to do with the fact that Blizz has a large asian market but I don't recall maturity being brought into the discussion until now.
Listen person. I did not speak for anyone but myself. I'm not sure if you know how to interpret english meaning very well, so I will let it slide.

Basically what people are saying is "Everything else in WoW is grown-up and mature content, but Pandas, how could they be so childish".."
Everquest added f*cking frogs... Pandas are no better or worse.
I'm sure there are plenty of other examples from countless other games i'm sure.
Uhhh. Frogloks were in the original (or very early) lore of EQ. They were in the game as NPCs from very early on (I think they were even there at launch), and the lore behind the troll / froglok struggle was built into the game. Pandaren were a joke... more than once... and now they're being billed as the focus of the next expansion.
Huge difference. Absolutely huge.

It is sad when people are taking this as a joke and the devs are taking it seriously. I think the devs are running out of ideas and desperately need to revive WoW, so in comes the Pandaren to spark the Asian market. Let me ask, what about the NA/EU player base that perhaps may not like the idea of pandas. Seems Blizzard has fallen on def ears when it comes to other player bases except Asia. Last I recall Blizzard Irvine was an American company....
Aniway, whatever the race they would have added, the same people would have complain for no good reason because they are just stupid. They mostly don't have on pandaren, but on wow. Jealous of the succes this game have and that other games sucks.
Sad, but true.
And exactly how does a differing of opinions about something so subjective make people "stupid"?You either like the idea of pandas as a playable race or you don't not sure where intelligence comes into that equation.
Further I spend more time defending WOW on these forums than just about anyone who no longer plays the game so I am certainly not jealous of it's success as a matter of fact I'm glad it has been the success that it is in my eyes WOW's success is responsible for more themepark games being made (my prefered mmo style of game) and more so big budget mmorpg's such as TOR which I am eagerly anticipating.
The bottom line is the idea of a panda playable race is too cutesy for many people and while many of us who don't like the idea have avoided calling you guys stupid for objecting to it maybe you and others like you and zenjinx just realize people will have differing opinions about what they like and don't like and stop trying to rationalize it further it doesn't do anyone any good especially considering that the article asks for all opinions it doesn't say if you like the idea comment if you don't stay away.....
ATTN: Blizzard can do WHATEVER THEY WANT to their OWN LORE and IP. Suck it up boys, if blizzard says its a part of the lore then it is.
And what does this have to do with people saying they don't like it. I don't see much rage at all just people saying they have no interest in a playable panda race and some even saying they won't buy this expansion I don't think there is much anger here just indifference and there is no reason why people can't like it if some people in fact can like it.
I would be very concerned if I was the CEO at Blizzard, when your having to tell ppl "It's not a joke, it's for real", because if your player base is having to question you on your big announcements validity then you know your not heading in the right direction.
Personally speaking it's just a game for me, sure lore is nice, but it's just fluff, I can't use it to smack my opponents brain out of his skull, or wear it as a nice new upgrade to my armour, it just adds an extra element to the game, a reason to why I'm having to work my way through mindless trash mobs in a dungeon to kill the big bad and get my fancy new epics.
However this expac screams out "Bottom of the barrel" to me.
It's more along the lines of whether they are moving forward with the Pandaren lore rather than whether or not the entire expansion (or the Pandaren) are a joke. I imagine he's just clarifying due to the fact that the Pandaren race were used as an April Fools joke a while back. This is common sense.
They're adding plenty to smack your opponents around with, though you'll still have to do the gear grind (though I think they're changing it somewhat; probably not enough).

Who said that Blizzard couldn't do whatever they wanted with their lore? I've yet to see a single post saying they're forbidden from doing so.
All I see is a lot of people who think the decision to make Pandaren the center of the next expansion is a very poor one, and last I checked, people are within their right to feel that way.
So... suck it up and accept that people think the next expansion is terrible idea.
The thin defense that "this is what players wanted" looks a little more shaky every time Bliz has to defend it publicly.

Imagine if they made a Star Wars Episode 7 movie, that revolved entirely around Ewoks. Ewoks already exist in the Star Wars universe, Geroge Lucas would just be expanding on their story...
While some people might like the idea of this, I get the feeling most Star Wars fans would be less than thrilled.
Which is a similar reason as to why there is as much of a 'lolwut?' response from people concerning the MoP expansion.

Look at the post right above yours: "lol, what a joke"
Is that not negativity for negativity's sake? It may not be rage or anger, but it added absolutely nothing to the conversation that hasn't been added by most of the posts. Almost all the posts about the expansion are negative, and this may look terrible, but there is a huge difference between reasonable negativity and negativity just to stir up drama. Hardly anyone has given a good reason for their negative posts, which means almost all the posts can be safely ignored. If you take away all the negative posts that don't give reasons, you'll notice the response to this expansion is overwhelmingly positive. :P
And no, "it's too cute" is not a good reason. Ignoring all the posts that list the cute things in the game does not make them go away. The game had thousands of things that were far more "cute" and "kiddy" than Pandaren/Pet Battles, and some were even used as advertisements on TV.

Star Wars has main characters which people expect the movies to revolve around, and I don't think the Star Wars fans have requested a movie revolving around Ewoks in the past.
You're comparing apples to peacocks, so I'll use a better example: It's similar to if some game were to release an exansion revolving around the undead in some northern icy region. Maybe they could call it Wrath of the Lich King. Who knows how much it would sell.

I think you should have a talk with Bieber's pulicist. That's not only a shaky assumption, but an inherently dangerous one for a company the size of Blizzard to ignore.
The game content itself often matters less than the public perception of the game content. How many Japanese MMOs with schoolgirls in sailor suits have you been tempted to play? I assume at least a few of them must be decent games to play, but what's their market share like with adult males?

Imo comparison of pandas and ewoks is perfect - both races look stupid in overall context of lore.

I'm not going to disagree with you, but I will say you're heavily exaggerating. By "it's too cute" not being an argument, I mean World of Warcraft is already cute, so saying Pandaren are somehow more cute than Gnomes (which had less lore than Pandaren pre-WoW) with pink pigtails is just absurd.
If this were the first WoW game rather than an expansion, you may have a point, but this is an expansion adding just as much if not less "cuteness" than was already previously in-game.

On opinions I don't always see eye to eye with Icewhite but this post is spot on in a game world where games like hello kitty online make hardly a blip I don't see why it's so hard for some to see that most adult gamers (especially males) don't want to play games with too much "cute" in it. I remember around the release of FFXI many of us were making it known that while we enjoyed the offline franchise many of us couldn't suspend belief enough to play a game where we were expected to do battle with Giant Ladybugs and deer etc. why is it so hard now for people to understand that this would be something many of the male mmo audience wouldn't want.
Many of the comments aren't really trashing the idea either from the first few pages of this post lot's of folks made it known they don't play WOW anymore and that this is something that wouldn't bring them back or that they would havean interest in.
I for one am not saying they shouldn't do it just that it is something I would have no interest in and you know what? It doesn't change my life in the least bit Blizzard started down a path of things I don't like right around TBC and since then they haven't done anything to hook me back in this simply falls into that category of things they are doing that wouldn't get me back into the game.
If there are those of you eager for your panda alt I am glad they are giving you something that excites you and in no way shape or form am I saying they are wrong for this or that you are wrong for being accepting just wish some of you folks would understand that it's not something everyone would agree with.
Ok well my six pen'orth worth. I run a long standing Gnome guild in Wow. We have to be the, up to now, most misunderstood race in the game. But we play our Gnomes as a serious industrious, put upon race fighting for our very survival and our city, and believe me I have campaigned to have Gnomeregan returned to us for many years. People still think Gnomes are a joke but those that have met the Gnomish Rescue Squad at least have more respect than previously. So why should Pandaren not be the same, play Pandaren differently than people are going to expect with dignity, gravitas, even viciousness. Make the Pandaren more than what others see them as, it takes imagination, but then we are supposed to enjoy RP so go to it. I for one think this could be a really good addition.

So because people can't justify their dislike of the idea of the expansion, they shouldn't post that they dislike the idea of the expansion...
No, no no, let me adjust that.
So because people can't justify their dislike of the idea of the expansion that measure up to your standards...
Well, aside from the fact that people have posted reasonable explainations as to why they dislike the concept of the announced expansion... The fact of the matter is that it really doesn't matter their specific reasoning is. In many people's opinions, the new WoW expansion does not mesh well with their personal taste, aka, preference.
Some people just don't like the direction the next expansion is taking WoW. Different people have different opinions about things, and they're not necessarily wrong. They're also perfectly within their right to state they dislike something, especially on an open discussion forum such as this. Just like you're perfectly within your right to state your excitement and approval of the expansion.
But trying to marginalize other people's opinions and attacking them for posting an opinion that is contrary to your own is just petty.

Yup.
I wouldn't predict a massive bailout of current players, but I wouldn't predict a massive return of ex-WoW players (as in previous expansions) either.
Public perception isn't something you can control. Particularly not when Metzen immediately goes on the defensive about it.

There are so many trolls and haters around here than it is more reasonable for me to ignore the simple hater posts than it is for you to consider them.
Plenty of people have posted an explanation, yes, but reasonable? I've seen "too cute" more times than I can count, and when it is responded to with a legitimate argument such as a list of things that are far more "cute," it is ignored and never rebutted. Ever.
I'm all for negativity and expression of opinion, but it isn't wise to even consider most of the posts here. My standards are as high as they are because I know the crowd that is posting. Take a look at the WoW forums after any announcement of any major feature, and you'll see insane amounts of negativity. Then, lo and behold, people love the feature and claim they had thought of it ages ago. If you're accepting all these "opinions" as a realistic view of what people want, then I suggest you lurk more. :P

Incredible! You take someones' opinion as speaking for everyone? I expressed pure opinion.
I was speaking to pony. That is why I quoted him. You responding "for him", is not the same as a comment on the point of my post. Otherwise, I would not have told you not to speak for pony. Understand?
Look up the meaning of the word "basically". Then, put it in the correct context of my sentence. There you have it.
Just in case you don't understand. What I said was "My opinion of this matter is that most complaints about the xpac are about the maturity or "silly" level of the pandas." Are you completely blind to the ongoing complaints? Or am I just fabricating all of these posts I have been reading since the announcement?
Public perception isn't something you can control. Particularly not when Metzen immediately goes on the defensive about it.
Blizzard is a multi-billion dollar corporation (give or take a few cents). They knew this was coming, they had to. They're not that clueless. It's polarizing. It's media worthy. I can't help but think it's intentional along the lines of a publicity stunt.
Given 13 pages of forum posts, I'd say it's working.

i dont play wow nor do i like it but haters are gonna hate ..even more when something new releases for it ..altho it is kinda funny ..but who rly cares..its wow ..ho-hum

And I am perfectly within my right to expect more than "lol it's bad" from people.

Get Real!
