Worst I ever played?  Some kind of f2p low budget title I don't even remember.

Mmorpg that declined it's quality most (by my subjective opinion)  - Lotro.

Game basically went from highly immersive, cooperation promoting game to single player online with co-op option instance medallions / tokens grinder.  + cash shop is getting worse and worse(and bigger) with each update.

  • NethermancerNethermancer Member Posts: 520

Hands down Alganon. Granted i havnt played many asian generic f2p grindfeasts so i am sure there are worse. But this is the worst i have actually played.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

Just cancelled my sub to LOTRO after getting to lvl 73 in the new expansion... was unimpressed.  Played on and off since launch and Tho I love the concept the game has turned left, in my opinion, and gone from a challenging game to an easy solo play game.. and tho I like solo play it is way too solo.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

So. then your title is misleading.  You're not actually talking about the MMO World of Warcraft.  You're talking about it's community.  Which makes your whole thread moot..

Worst MMO I've ever played is Mortal Online.  Not because of the ideas in place, but because of the execution of those ideas.

If WOW was his worst game experience its his worst game experience,  Community make a mmo what it is so there is no moot about it.

What was your worst  MMO played?

If you're basing your experience of worst played being WoW...dude you seriously haven't played enough mmos...LOL. For me it had to be Fung Wan Online. Here let me explain what a bad mmo is and it has nothing to do with community:

    • Graphics were worst than Everquest I

    • UI was utter trash and convoluted

    • Grind was horrible and started at level 2

    • World was huge and bareboned

    • Mobs were aggro based from the get go and range was huge

    • PK from level 1 if you joined a faction/clan

    • Travel system was piss poor and confusing

    • Skill system was broken and complicated

    • Clipping and collision detection was horrible

    • Frame rate was choppy as hell

I mean I could go on about this game. I played thinking this was going to be an epic martial arts mmo based off the movies/comics/lore I loved (The Storm Riders) and it turned out to be an utter failure! Oh well.

OK, I do admit to not playing many F2P, I mostly assume they are going to be worth what I paid for them.  I also base a lot of how good a game is on the community, and in that I rate WoW on the bottom.  I could have also listed LOTRO, because of how disappointed I am in the direction that turbine has chosen.  What was once a good and challenging game has become a single player online game.  You can pretty much solo to the level cap, and the new expansion was disappointing, especially in the new skills, which were mostly all "improved" versions of old skills.  Nice creative work there.  They stopped the new zones too soon, everyone was clamoring for Helm's Deep, but it was not included.

The telling point for me is that when I turn off all the chat channels in a game because of the moronic chatter, like I found in Wow, I would be better off playing a single player game than that MMO.

Just so that it's clear...FWO was a sub game BEFORE it went F2P and then finally died the death it deserved. I played in 2003, before WoW was even around. Like I said you haven't played enough mmos.

Why because I didn't play that one?  I have played enough to know what I like and do not like. Just because I have different criteria for what is bad and what is good does not  mean I have not played enough mmo's. Played Asheron's call, EQ, EQ2, WoW, SWG, Shadowbane, Dark age of Camelot, LOTRO, AoC,  EVE, a couple fo f2P's that I can not remember because they were so bad... Even played the Never Winter Night persistant worlds. Tried a couple of others on free trials.  Nice try at painting me as a newcomer to MMo's but it is only based on the fact that you like WoW and I do not.  Sorry, I do ocnsider WoW as the kindergarden of mmo's.  Played lately? lol.

don't worry about it, most people on this forum are just here to show that they are much more of an MMO player than you, by citing random obscure MMOs that are made by one or two people.

Congrats you have played Super DragonZilla Age of Destruction a F2p  MMORPG. made by some 12 year old in their parents basement. no one gives two ****s. there is usually a reason why they are free to play ... cause they are BAD.

anyways I have played pretty much Every AAA major MMORPG, and yes i would say WoW is the worst for one when i played it i fell asleep, two the community is terrible, three the game was made for the hopelessly stupid. and finally in my opinion WoW destroyed the direction that i was hoping the genre would go the open world sandobx community driven game.

so now if i want a sandbox game i have to play some shitty Indie game like Darkfall or Mortal because big name developers are too scared on taking the risk of doing something different than WoW.

Not trying to paint you as anything really. I came into your thread thinking I would get a robust discussion about features from past or present mmos that failed to deliver basic mechanics needed to make playing smooth and somewhat enjoyable. Not a thread that devolved into another redundant topic about which mmo has the worst community.

If that's the case what exactly makes this discussion any different than becoming a let's take another opportunity to focus on one thing and one thing only: community. Because of it's variation from user to user, the community card is a very weak argument to have for not playing something. Because frankly, the mmo community is only growing larger and history shows that the more people involved in anything, the more complicated things tend to get.

But features are a whole different ballgame. We can disagree about features, throw out some facts and have a rational discussion about it. Oh well I've explained myself and now you can take your topic in whatever direction you choose. Maybe we can talk about worst mmo features later, mmkay?

    I would say FFXI,

Its so bad that the developers havn't charged a dime for it. And here in about 11 months they are going to be releasing "2.0" which is a remake of about 95% of the game,

.....in fact I think the only thing they are keeping is the engine.

Mortal Online. Easily the worst MMO I've played that is amazingly still alive (or undead). But I can't say that I played it very long. A trial run let me see more game issues than I ever dreamed possible.

If we are talking about MMOs that we played as in subscribed, then AoC would be the one.

    Probably Mortal Online.

Pretty much every game ever released since Everquest, with a handful of exceptions.

Honestly since online gaming has gone mainstream the game communities have gone consistently downhill.

With every new game released the games become more about the bells and whistles, and less about the meat and potatoes.

PVP has lost its way becoming weak and serving no purpose, often destroyed by a lack of effort to balance classes.

As I said earlier a few exceptions,

Ryzom, exceptional player community, fun friendly helpful.

SWG ( PRE ), best sandbox ever made, fantasic player community, player driven economy, government, crafting.

DAOC, intense exceptional meaningful pvp, a true pleasure to play.

Sadly out of the thousands of games that have released three is about all I can give a nod to as decent games.

The three worst games I have ever played are...

    1)  Aion.  Promised much.  Delivered nothing.

    2)  Star Trek Online.  Shallowest game content ever.  Appalingly simplistic starship combat.  Worthless planetary content.

    3)  Rift.  See comment about Aion.

  • SirLornSirLorn Member UncommonPosts: 212

If I had to think of 'one', it would be SUN (Soul of the Ultimate Nation), reasons, heh....if you followed this title with any interest at all, and ever got to actually try it, then you know why ;)

What was your worst  MMO played?

The 'WoW community; is one of gaming's biggest myths.  While there are a few MMOs that clearly have a more mature community (the EQ games stand out here, Ryzom is another) the majority pool from the same group of players.  Ive seen chuck norris talk in pretty much every MMO.  And other MMos have something extra annoying:  people that do nothing but bash WoW 24/7 and say 'go back to WoW'.  Vanguard's release was absolutely brutal with this, and Rift has it pretty bad too.

And all games have the same cure all for the community:  join a guild.

The older games have better communities mainly because their heydey was before the entitled generation really came into play.  But now all games are fairplay for lousy communities until you get into a real community (guild)

No sometimes it's called trying to absorb information from other people's experiences. I like reading about how others may have experienced things I have or not have and draw conclusions based on those things that each mmo may or may not share.

Like I stated before, FWO was P2P well before it was F2P. And just because you happen to lump all F2Ps as crapfest mmos, others may not be so quick to pull the trigger. Maybe....just maybe some players are looking for a particular feature that a F2P mmo may have that they can experience themselves and see if it works for them. Keeping a topic focused on something as varied as community is not being open-minded as we are not of the hive mind mentality when it comes to that topic.

Ok point taken but could you explain:

    1. What exactly made you fall asleep?

    2. I've touched on the community thing so we'll move on.

    3. How exactly do you make a game for stupid players? Do you have any other examples?

How did WoW destroy what direction mmos would have headed? That's like saying shortly after the invention of ice cream, they introduced a chocolate variant and now you cannot get a better vanilla ice cream. Which is obviously not the case. And the fact there are different flavors, ice cream comes in a huge variety and is enjoyed by millions more than vanilla lovers. It that really a bad thing?

So make up ur mind...are u asking about the worst mmo or the worst comunity in an mmo?

So in your opinion the worst mmo comunity is wow...what about the real answer to your question ?

What I "dislike" the most about WOW is all the WOW-Clones.

In my ranking of worst games, all the "clones" have a preferred site in the list.

    1) it was while leveling the whole leveling process, it was dumbed down, dull and boring there was no sense of danger. I mean hell to get some excitement out of the game i use to see how many of the mobs i could pull. "you need to kill 10 mobs" hey ill pull 10 mobs and see if i can kill them. and then grouping christ could encounters get any easier.

    2) yeah the community is just terrible in fact if i had turned off chat i probably would have enjoyed the game more.

    3) the game takes little to no thought to be successful in everything is just dumbed down its made for the lowest common denominator. combat, no need for strategy i mean hell while leveling you could probably just throw on auto attack and succeed, crafting ... no need to think just plug in the right materials and press the create button. don't have to worry about failing don't have to think about anything

    4) i explained this if you actually read my post, from UO to EQ1 to SWG I saw the genre growing into an open world with living breathing communities, real economies and real substance. now its just all about the phat lootz. so yeah for me it destroyed the direction i was hoping the genre would move toward.

Played lately? lol.

Maybe we can talk about worst mmo features later, mmkay?

well then do so, have stated that this is not a thread for discussing community. If you have different criterion discuss them. Or not. Your choice.  You could always make your own thread instead.

    Currently bored with MMO's.
