I have seen several best game threads.. what is the worst you have actually played?
For me: it was WoW.. not because of the actual game but because of the community. My opinion folks not bashing the game, many like it - I do not.
What was your worst MMO played?
So make up ur mind...are u asking about the worst mmo or the worst comunity in an mmo?
So in your opinion the worst mmo comunity is wow...what about the real answer to your question ?
ok, last time explaining this - WoW is the worst game FOR ME. The reason I say that is because of community. Your choice may be made on different criteria. The title of this thread remains as it is. I guess I should have just stated that I think WoW is the worst with no explanation. Then the WoW Fan atics would have crucified me for hating on WoW.. wait it seems they are anyways to some degree. As far as what WoW did that hurt MMO's, in my opinion, is that it made a game easy enough that your mom and dad could play it, hooked them on the game and later it led them to try other games. When playing those they complained that it was not as easy as WoW, so the makers of those games dumbed their game down to keep the WoW addicts paying a sub. My opinion. LOTRO is a good example of this.. in my opinion.
Just curious about why you dislike Darkfall. I did try the free trial on it and Mortal Online and found them wanting tho not in community. Darkfall was too barren looking, just my opinion. Mortal online was too much of a gank fest( Iknow that is the point of playing it but it was a tad over board - or maybe it was just the days I logged in).
well then do so, have stated that this is not a thread for discussing community. If you have different criterion discuss them. Or not. Your choice. You could always make your own thread instead.
Whether you want it to be about worst communities or not, when you open the discussion to things like this:
Darkfall---worst community
WoW---worst community
Aion---worst comminuty
AoC---worst community
LoTRO---worst community
And so on, how can the topic move on without you establishing some basic ground rules to keep it from being redundant and focusing on community once again..I suggest next time you think about how you want your discussion to pan out before you type. For me, the very first post I made contributed to your topic and yours only set the pace of what seemed like another WoW bashing session. On top of that you insulted me and rebuttal with you having played very bad games (as oppose to good games with bad communities) and having played mmos since NWN but still failed to draw upon any of your vast past experiences other than your social ineptness in WoW.
Just a little FYI, all great discussions lay ground rules to keep the pettiness at bay. Having pretty much a free-for-all discussion with this community will usually results in a topic being locked and burning in a big pile of stink. Oh well at least I tried. Back to the closet for me.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Its so bad that the developers havn't charged a dime for it. And here in about 11 months they are going to be releasing "2.0" which is a remake of about 95% of the game,
.....in fact I think the only thing they are keeping is the engine.
I'm sure you meant FFXIV not FFXI. FFXI was fantastic, original, emersive, beautiful, and the community was top notch.
Regarding FFXIV's "2.0" release, I don't even think they are keeping the engine.
Wow, can't beleive I did that, As a 4 year vetran of FFXI I have the utmost respect for that game (well what it used to be)
And you are correct I meant FFXIV.
things they are changing/redoing in 2.0 (that I know of)
Maps, getting rid of the copy/pasta
classes, changing them so they reflect the classes in FFXI better
quest/quest system, (as far as I know they are getting rid of the giant crystal things)
they are changing the servers
the UI
I think you could make the argument they are making a new FF game...

( For me )
DarkFall -
The community was widely unintelligent.
Forced guild play.
Overly grindy.
Stability was a joke.
Client side security was a joke. ( And still is )
WoW -
Bored me to tears.
ok, lol, on Darkfall I never heard anyone chat, so maybe that IS unintelligent.. lol.

Community is not a part of an MMO and if it was its all the more reason why I think a certain MMO being released in December will be an even bigger failure.
People who say Community are people who dislike McDonalds cause of its popularity, or associate with the OWS because they percieve themselves as being the 1%. Silly mentality all around.

hahah let's hope so buddy.. FFXIV should be an entry added to the "what not to do when creating an MMORPG" list.
Man, they so dropped the ball on that, didn't they? The community was right there at their finger tips. Willing to shell out BUCKETS of money. All they had to do was give us FFXIV: FFXI part 2. (FFXI with better graphics and updated UI and combat animations)
the only feedback they would have gotten would have been "sold. thanks. "

I dislike McD's because of the shyte they sell as food.
I don't play f2p generally, and I have beta'd many games that are worse than the game I will name, but I never subbed them at release, so I don't think I can really name them...I have been playing MMOs since UO was released, but I don't hop games much either...
List of games I tried the trial, that were in release versions that I didn't think were that good.
1. DF (UI was horrible...and I like sandbox, but it seemed like they went out of their way to make it horrible)
2. Lotro - Looked nice, didn't hate it, but it didn't grab me (free trial, was still p2p).
3. D&D online - played a little bit, didn't grab me.
4. FE - Very bland world (heard it gets better later, but...Couldn't get the wife to even consider it).
5. Rift - I hadn't subbed anything but UO (3rd time back, don't like new skill system) since I left Vanguard, so I was wanting to play something ...Bought a 6 month sub, figured that even if it ends up being bad, I will get 6 months out of it, since I had played 2 EQ and UO for like 6-8 years each....Well, I played my free month, and 2 months or so of my time and I left...So Rift was my shortest game that I actually subbed. World was too small, crafting/harvesting were bad imo, not a lot of playing options at max level imo, too railed. I never played WoW, besides its beta, so it wasn't even WoW fatigue...But I like some sandbox elements in my themepark, like good harvesting/crafting, interesting world to explore (things to do on the side, other than the quest rail)...
1) it was while leveling the whole leveling process, it was dumbed down, dull and boring there was no sense of danger. I mean hell to get some excitement out of the game i use to see how many of the mobs i could pull. "you need to kill 10 mobs" hey ill pull 10 mobs and see if i can kill them. and then grouping christ could encounters get any easier.
2) yeah the community is just terrible in fact if i had turned off chat i probably would have enjoyed the game more.
3) the game takes little to no thought to be successful in everything is just dumbed down its made for the lowest common denominator. combat, no need for strategy i mean hell while leveling you could probably just throw on auto attack and succeed, crafting ... no need to think just plug in the right materials and press the create button. don't have to worry about failing don't have to think about anything
4) i explained this if you actually read my post, from UO to EQ1 to SWG I saw the genre growing into an open world with living breathing communities, real economies and real substance. now its just all about the phat lootz. so yeah for me it destroyed the direction i was hoping the genre would move toward.
1) I can agree with that, especially coming off a year of playing FFXI and running a linkshell with weekly events. Maybe I enjoyed the pacing more just because of that. I mean my friends were there to help me get started but I soon found myself outleveling them. And most of the time it was off hours when everyone else was sleep.
3) I woud say streamlined and simple and not be so insulting about it. Like I said earlier, up to that point the games I played were deeper in those areas that you named: combat, strategy and crafting. But what it lacked in depth for me it made up in utility, convience and pace. This was far new from the things I was use to and really didn't bother me beyond knowing that I was playing a different kind of mmo.
4) Part of me wants to agree with you on this. And the only reason I cannot is because it was always a loot grind for me personally. Whether it was getting silver weapons in UO, epics (that you never used for fear of a durability loss) in DAoC, AF armor in FFXI or that perfect splice in SWG. It was always about exploring the world and getting the best lootz, so to speak.
I just think that developers needs to first:
promote different ways to play and succeed, then build worlds to suit that playing style. Because you can tell someone how to play right all day long, but until they see the way they are playing is not the only way to do so, they will not deviant from years of training from past mmos.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
RIFT: The only game that is truly a WoW clone (bad one). It is so souless and shallow, like it was made by a bunch of frigid ppl.
Beta'd that... The thing that alarmed me about it was that it seemed like I had played that game before, and not just Wow.. it was like a mix of many games.
I agree.
I always try the free trial of each P2P game before deciding if I should subscribe and I have never actually had to force myself to complete a mmo's free trial, but with RIFT I did.
Even forcing myself after three days of the seven day free trial I had to stop playing because it was so aweful and bland.
Also I got the same feeling like I was playing many mmo's when playing RIFT, but I didn't know which ones.
I guess it was just so dull that it didn't even feel like a game but more of a chore.
Well the worst I ever played and the one that is still active are not the same game. I would say the worst game I have played was Tabula Rasa.
The worst game I have played that is still active would have to be World of Kung Fu...if that is still active.. Otherwise a very close second would be Shaiya
In terms of horribleness at launch, Champions Online, hands down. It's a better game now, though still horribly shallow. STO is a close second, except I really did enjoy the space combat, even at launch. Just that everything else was excruciating, and like CO, just insanely shallow.
For continued horribleness, there was a particularly bad cash shop car MMO from Korea based on Crazy Cab. Most annoying part, is you leveled all the time, though the levels meant pretty much nothing. But there was this boy band sounding voice that would exclaim: "You gained a level!!! Yeah!!!".
for me it was WOW..has above not the game in general..but the community,at that time, which was 3yrs ago.
Its funny how people talk about community in games. You do realize the bigger the population of the game the more you are going to notice the bad part of said community regardless of what game it is right?
I played on Stormrage server from 2004-2009 and I did not see this "horrible" community people speak of.As a matter of fact I saw worse in my short time in Age of Conan on the Tyranny server than in all my time in WoW.

yea when playign a game becomes work it is time to stop. Games are supposed to be fun not work, unless of course you are being paid to play.. and even then I question it. EQ2 became like that for me in the higher levels. Once I got to around lvl 45 I would create a new character because it became a chore to advance(for me).
Everything from Turbine was the worst. Is there really anything worst than their games?
I think we should rank who is the worst MMO developer. It would be for me the following;
1) Turbine - DDO
2) Turbine - LotRO
3) Funcom - AoC
Feel free to disagree but I used to play all thre and their horrible. Even after going F2P, still no justice. You can smell their greed in game.
Asheron's Call is one of my favorite MMOs of all time but I will agree everything they've done after that has been mediocre. Cryptic is easily the worse developer IMO.
I've tried quite a few crap MMO's but I couldn't say that I played them as I left them alone after I realised they were crap but for me the worst was the NGE.
Yup, I loved SWG until the NGE, then afterwards I couldn't enjoy it no matter how much I tried.
