The questing is good because it's where Bioware decided to place all their focus. The problem is that the voiceover cutscenes are so much better than the normal gameplay it's distracting and only serves to remind you how the rest of TOR is mediocre.
Then there's the obvious fact that questing and cutscenes can only last so long. Eventually you hit endgame and there's no more huge decisions to make or story changes to follow. At that point all you can do is queue for instances endlessly and pray that Ilum doesn't suck too much. At level cap TOR becomes a less polished version of WoW with about 25% of WoW's content. I don't see much long-term value. I expect a solid 2-3 months of gameplay before it becomes played out.

Man, there's a lot of fortunetellers and psychics on these forums I gather that the really good ones are playing the stock market, and the rest hanging on forums like here.
Like with a lot of other MMO's - or trends for that matter - it's hard to say anything for sure regarding the future. Especially when people use their own taste as the ultimate proof and truth how every other gamer thinks about things. What one person dislikes, another person can like, as shown on these forums often enough. Different tastes and different requirement that various MMO gamers need to find gaming fun in the games they play.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
@Fratman: typical, you reply with an insult. You're right, it's easy to form an opinion and do a prediction, it's also easy to be wrong in them. For example, people who claimed with all surety as hell that SWTOR would be out in Spring 2012 or later were proven wrong. Predictions are proven wrong all the time.
The only thing that you can say for sure, is that some people will dislike it, just as there are people who will like it. The point that so many people here dislike or even hate WoW for years now while it still has been so successful all that time shows however that if some people dislike a game, it doesn't mean that game will be automatically fail.

Good interview overall. The breakdown of class attributes was informative and interesting. The Light/Dark aspect of levelling will be fun to toy around with. Since the outcome of Light/Dark is not so easily anticipated, I wonder how my character will end up? Maybe they could have a backwards day where the sides are reversed, so then all the good guys will be slaying villagers, and the bad will be planting flowers and saving kittens.
On a side note, the KOTOR games were wicked, so if you meatbags (*HK47 voice*) never played KOTOR, both installments were great, rich RPGs that, by comparison to previous SW games, significantly ramped up the immersion.
TIL that this girl 'Pokket', enjoys video games; SWTOR, the colour blue, and gunslinging (in SWTOR). Hope to see more.
Thanks for the feedback! It looks like the biggest negative is the audio and music. I will definitely work on the audio and, as for the music, I will turn it down a bit. Perhaps it was too loud >.<
That being said, If you check out the earlier Game Face videos on my Youtube page, you'll notice this song is used for nearly all of them (but maybe the first two?). I sort of just built it up as a theme... that's why I keep using it XD Again, I'll just need to turn it down a bit so it isn't drowning the voice over.
I can't wait for my next post! Stay tuned in
Sub'd to your YouTube channel. But please... change tune. Techno is so 90's ;-)
Er, if you find the videocam that's hidden in the shower head, it's...one of the younger guys. No, rly!
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Ah, wow, it's Pokket. I've seen her on some Gamebreaker TV episodes. I'm surprised she was so positive in this preview, previously on gbtv she seemed uninterested in TOR. Not really negative, but she didn't seem to have much interest in it. She always seemed to be more of a Rift fan. I'm glad to see she's willing to give TOR a positive preview.
Well I, for one, stopped following closely the whole MMO beta & announcement PR quite a few months ago, because:
1 - I'd been "into" the whole MMO buzz for years and quite frankly got tired of being over-sold and then, obviously, over-disappointed by shallow games. In fact, most if not all my 2011 games were solo/MP titles. I find it harder and harder to even consider having "fun" in timesinks and repetitive/grinding content, which is apparently all MMOG studios are willing to offer these days—bewilderingly at no less than a premium cost. Don't get this the wrong way, I love paying for quality, but I just can't do that with MMOG these days. Not that I lack the money for that budget.
2 - Star Wars is such a pop icon that it exacerbates to a ridiculous extent all the criticism generally associated with PR buzz. It's a global mess. It's impossible to form an opinion based on sole reading/watching. Take it from a guy who's highly skilled in monitoring trends—I used to make a living out of it.
And I must say that short preview was interesting and quite informative for an outsider. I saw it through my RSS feed, thought it would be a good time to see where SWTOR's at after all those months. And I like what I heard. Bioware's art of telling stories is a real treat that I always thought SWTOR would be exquisitely threaded of. Of course, should you look for a sandbox, here and now is just not the right spacetime. We're talking heavily theme-parked MMOG, and it's just what I expect of Bioware in this case.
It's ok to bend the NDA if you have something bad to say?
The video preview was not so great. You can tell that there was a lot she wanted to say but couldn't. Previews/Review videos are going to be so much more infromative if they would drop the NDA...

Very true. But I think she already said enough 'between the lines' and more than she actually was allowed to ;-)
About NDA. I think it'll be dropped after next (semi open) beta weekend when 1M players are able to play (LOL - try to logon to start with).

A million people? I don't know how many played this last test, but BioWare reported over a million hours logged in two days (Saturday and Sunday - Friday was the stress test proper). I don't think a million people were playing then, so I wonder how many hours a million people will log! Probably 10+ million over 2 days.
The audio was terible, the music enough to make your ears blead. Sorry I would rather have an article to read instead of some vidoe podcast that has a bad adio and even worse video presentation.
Noooooooo.I ONLY like videos, then you can see exactly what they are talking aobut .Articles are so old school AND boring as heck to read.
Example she was talking about something that really catches me about pvp map design, cover, strategical locations ect ect. However in the video i did not see it ,but she did say she had to use already released videos not her own footage.
There is however soemthing that really caught my eyes ,i mean ears.It really seemed like she was reading off of some cheat sheet and not telling us her impression baed on her thoughts. From the start of the video it sort of came across as a website run blog not someone's personal take on the game.
So question needs to be asked,is this her own vblog or does she work for some company and feeding us nothing but advertising videos? If it is her own, good job but i suggest not sounding like you are reading from a paper and give your heart felt impressions, they are much more real that way.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

A recurring theme I keep hearing is, "I want to see where the story goes." This is the first MMO where it could actually be said that the story is important to the game play. You could almost say the story takes precedence over the game play.

Erm so you have not played LOTRO then?
That's one of the reasons I enjoyed LotRO - that and the fact that the world felt alive, through a myriad of little details.

Yeah it's odd that coming closer to site ads, magazine ads time WHOA!! errrrrrrr i 'm mean launch, many whom were uninterested or others whom didn't like it in the least are all of a sudden having a change of heart??? Well that is until ad revenue stops then the real opinions come back into focus.

Before anyone flames out I'm not targeting SWTOR it's any game, any site, any magazine. Been this way for years and will always be this way.
I remember buying a few games based on magazine previews, OMG it's looking amazing ohhh baby, I buy game, sucks, then the review issue show up a month or two later and it's a crap score and they absolutely hate the POS game???? WTF? this isn't what you said two issues ago bro. lol
I could have pre-ordered skyrim and saved some money, but i didn't, i bought it the day after release, i read enough player feedback to know this is a must buy, no regrets. Sure i could have saved a few bucks but over the years I'm fairly certain I've saved hundreds if not thousands in taking the wait it out for the real reviews, player feedback.
LOTRO definitely had a great story, and it is the reason I played it for so long. I personally prefer the LoTR lore over the SW lore, the way Bioware delivers their story is what makes this game so immersive.
