Good lord, you guys complain over the smallest of things. First of all, there isn't a ton of reactive abilities to manage in this game. For good or bad, I never had more than 1, maybe 2 abilies that were proc abilities in my time in beta. I believe I only had one proc to manage through 25 levels as a Trooper. Second of all, it took me all of 3 seconds to learn how to adjust to that. Put the ability in a prime location on your action bar, watch it light up, and use it. Easy. And Third, this is one of those things that I'm sure BW will add post launch. You'll see a lot of these little things gettign added in in the very near future in patch updates.
Oh, and the Rift Macro system was a joke. Seriously, like, it was the joke of the industry. If TOR ever has a macro system even remotely close to that travesty then they will have ruined their combat.
depends on class some have more than others. Also if you think rifts macro system was a joke you never really played Rift it worked fine. i'm fine with this game not having a macro system but to say rifts system did anything but make certain classes a little easier to play you are lying to yourself. Honestly only warriors and shams could macro a good amount of skills cause they had several off global cooldown abilities but even still if you macroed them all you were at a disadvanatage against any player that used them strategically especially in PVP since a lot of the time you don't want to use every reactive or every CD skill at every moment.
And as for smallest things comment like I said in my EDIT on my OP this goes hand in hand with customizable UI which almost no one has said they don't want in one way or another
Doesn't the game have like a scrolling combat "parry/block" etc that's visible near your character so you know when reactive abilities are going to be available?
I don't think a glowing hotbar icon is a good solution. I don't want it easy, it's just I have all my abilities keybound and I don't look at the hotbars.
No seriously, I'm very much a middle of the road kinda person. This game should be good. I don't think great. I think it'll be a good 4 month play or so to cover everything and then people will move on. I don't know that there is enough meat to take up more time. I feel the same way about Rift. They did so much RIGHT but they didn't hold my attention more than a month or two.
Back to current discussion,
I think that if you had reactive skills, you would/should animate them. When you animate them, you have to make sue you animate each different reaction otherwise people would claim sprites weren't animated enough. It's the "if you give a mouse a cookie" syndrome.
Edit: I would also like to point out, Rift's macro system was changed in beta because people were LITERALLY macro'ing 30 skills to 1 key. They changed it to limit that. I don't know what the current state is.
Give the cat a meatball!

Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

I as well have everything bound and would rather not have to look at my hotbar at all and rather enjoy the combat and watch my team and my oppentents but this game doesn't allow for that with the current UI.. Well you could but would end up spamming buttons that are on CD or not available making you less effective in combat

I played Rift for three months, and yes....the macro system was a complete joke. Players binding an entire series of attacks to a single macro? How would anyone think this is good for the game? Sorry, that's the sign of a very poor macro system.
And yes, this is a small thing. Stop getting hung up on the minutia and learn to adjust. Macros aren't needed for this combat system. Procs aren't as prevalent in this game as other games, so adding a reactive ability function wasn't high on their priority, but this is one of those easy fixes that I have no doubt will be added in later. Until then, suck it up.

once again i could care less about macros but I don't think its such a small thing to have a UI not customizable at all although if it was at least a littlle more intuative and put together better I could probably deal with it not being customizable.. but sadly its not

yeah they made it alot shorter because everyone posted video's on youtube of doing every instance and pvp just by pressing one button. All it meant though was to split the macro's so you would have to be like 123123123123123123123 and get 10 kills

Or you could learn to...you know... multi-task. I know it's a skillset used by less and less people in this new generation, but you don't have to be one of the statistics who never bothered to learn it.
What people learn by not using macro's in video games.
1. Multi-tasking
2. Timing.
3. Effectiveness of abilities, not what some forum post tells you is a good/bad ability, but the skill set needed to figure it out for yourself.
4. Visually acknowledging the ramifications of using skills in relation to it's effects.
5. How to play their character.
What people learn by using macro's.
1. Copy/paste
if you really need an indicator that SCREAMS at you when to use an ability, just ask the devs to create an "I WIN" button that lights up the entire middle of your screen, you press it and everyone falls down.

can do the same thing in this game just you are typing 1231111111123111115611171113 honestly MMO combat isn't hard no matter if you have macros or not but to not allow people to make it more enjoyable to them(customizable UI) just feels silly to me.

I think people that want to macro, will simply use gaming devices outside the game to effectively create macros.
I agree about the disappointment of not being able to customize the UI. I prefer to play with minimalist designs, and free up screenspace to enjoy the game more.

I thought your point was that there was too many abilities at 50? but now there is 7? consistency is the key and you have none which is why nobody is taking you seriously
The indicator should come from your character not from a glowing button. Ideally there would be a character animation that showed when a proc ability was ready. They could do something as simple as stomp one foot, move a hand to certain positon, or change the position of their weapon as an indicator, or we can just copy the old crap that's already been done.

how in any shape or form in ANY MMO ever made is the reactive ability indicator been a "I WIN" button. Its a convienence that has been put into every big MMO in the last few years for the most part.

I think the scrolling combat text might be a good solution. It keeps your eyes on the action instead of on the UI. I do notice the 'parry' and 'block' notifications that come up, so I would probably notice a 'POWER ACTIVE' notification as well.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

generally in MMOs you have a core set of abilities that are constantly used then a string of other high CD abilties that you use on only certain cases on top of several abilties that can be used only out of combat such as buffs. Either way its still just more abilities cluttered throughout your hotbar doesn't mean you are using everyone every fight.

that would be even more ideal for sure but is asking a lot of the developers. that's more next gen MMO stuff hopefully games to come will include
I'm also amazed they aren't releasing with Dual Speccing.
If I hit 50 and don't have dual speccing within a month I'll probably just quit. I'm not going to a trainer and redoing my hotbars because I want to pvp for 30 minutes before a raid.
Swtor's has actually made me appreciate RIFT alot more.
I really missed dual-spec as well. Would be nice to have more options available.

If you really need an indicator, do what i do, arrange the hotbar so you can see it and not fish for the reactive button when it lights up. Instead you are argueing over the button not reaching from your monitor and slapping you in the face when it's time to use a reactive ability.
How about this...
Program an artificial arm connected to your monitor to slap you in the face when you parry or block so you can be bothered to look down on your hotbar.
Parry-- Whack!
Block--Whack!
Parry--Whack!
I can picture it now, people across the nation show up to work with black eyes, their excuse, I can't be bothered to learn without macro's and my indicator was only noticeable if I paid attention. It'll heal eventually.

But what would be your answer anyway? reactive abilities don't take skill so the fewer the better and having hardly any skills would be boring. It's about knowing your skill timers and which abilities to use in which circumstance. Macroing combat just ruins the combat.
I really like in this game that you can't just spam skills you have force, energy ammo etc. gunslingers for example you have to choose when to burst someone down and when to autoattack and build up energy

I'm left handed, I have to learn to adapt to you right handed people's UI's all the time. You know what I do... I learn and adapt. Try it sometime. It works, I swear!
Ability indicators would be pretty cool. Reactive ability indicators would be cool too. Except I would prefer to have combat systems work with minimal UI watching. Instead of watching my button bar or popup indicators, I want to watch my character and what's happening in the environment.
exactly but with the current system to keep your reactive or cooldown abilities used in a efficient manner especially in PVP you are required to almost stare at your hotbar
So you want macro's to automatically do your reactive skills for you.... you want automation.... Rift Macro's = Automation
Personally I hate COMBAT macro's removes skill and human error from the game and allows someone to just run circles around another player while pushing 1 button to do all their skills automatically....
Bioware has already said there not going to allow macros that automate combat in anyway... so if that's the only way you can play you might as well quite the game now.
It's Ironic that a lot of the "" Hardcore "" PvP'ers who brag about how great they are and call everyone else carebears can't seem to play the game without Macro's automating everything for them... lol

i didnt read all the post on this topic, but the first few really explain whats wrong with MMOs.
so many dont want challenge, they actually want MMOs easyer and dumbed down. and they call it " features " i call it makeing the game to easy to play.
