If you really need an indicator, do what i do, arrange the hotbar so you can see it and not fish for the reactive button when it lights up. Instead you are argueing over the button not reaching from your monitor and slapping you in the face when it's time to use a reactive ability.
if you could customize the UI this would not be an issue at all but sadly you cannot.
I'm left handed, I have to learn to adapt to you right handed people's UI's all the time. You know what I do... I learn and adapt. Try it sometime. It works, I swear!
and I will If I decide to stick with the game. My point is small stuff like this can really drive players away and if they want to keep a good portion of there fan base over the course of next year simple stuff such as a customizable UI should and needs to be put in. For me not being able to even move the skill bars around is a huge let down in a MMO and for them to release without any such feature just feels like a very odd choice to me.
For honest gamers who are not looking to basically cheat at PKing or any other form of cheating I hear ya loud and clear.
However I doubt that Bioware will be able to stop the dishonest players from scripting. Scripting is much more powerful than any in-game or third party macros and is very hard for game developers to discover or stop. Basically the only way to catch scriptors is in action in the game world like for example farming resources unattended. Yeah that's a no brainer but why would anyone use macros when you can script?
BTW, in a recent interview with one of the Dev's they said that there is a team working on the UI now and that it will be fully customizable, you will be able to re-size and move the UI around on the screen... Hopefully they will have it ready for live, if not it will be put in shortly after...
From reading this thread I'm thinking that if BW had decided to do away with the AH and have all sales made by spamming on the trade channel, there would be some here talking about what a great thing that was and how real traders don't need no stinking AH.
Reactive indicators are a part of all AAA MMOs. Yes it's a convenience and not a requirement but so is area looting, chat channels filtered by zone, LFG flagging, etc.
Leaving out reactive indicators also seems weird to me. It's something I take for granted and always expect. Just like no casting on target of target which is essential for any healer who wants to throw in some DPS... Just like we're encouraged to do.
People defending the good and bad features equally and calling anyone who has the temerity to point to the warts "haters" just sound like obsessed juvenile zealots and have no credibility whatsoever.
Discuss the pros and cons as much as you want but please spare us your immature labeling complete with your asinine graphics.

So you want macro's to automatically do your reactive skills for you.... you want automation.... Rift Macro's = Automation
Personally I hate COMBAT macro's removes skill and human error from the game and allows someone to just run circles around another player while pushing 1 button to do all their skills automatically....
Bioware has already said there not going to allow macros that automate combat in anyway... so if that's the only way you can play you might as well quite the game now.
It's Ironic that a lot of the "" Hardcore "" PvP'ers who brag about how great they are and call everyone else carebears can't seem to play the game without Macro's automating everything for them... lol
already said over and over I could care less about macros. Not going to going over it for the 10th time..

I find that my usefulness to the topic is the same as adding to a topic that has been previously covered in this forum MULTIPLE times. In fact, the most recent was the post yesterday. Almost the same topic VERBATIM. Thank you for contributing your post, I will contribute mine.
I read a few topics on macros but not on reactive indicators. This thread is about reactive indicators not macros
Indicators take up my screen space with messy pixilated warnings of what button I need to mash, when I should already know because the hot key is lit up.

I would be for OPTIONAL things, however a lot of games don' thave OPTIONAL indicators, they are just defaulted on and you can't turn em off and your screen is full of pop ups and you lose your depth your immersive feel.
Edit: I would also like to point out, Rift's macro system was changed in beta because people were LITERALLY macro'ing 30 skills to 1 key. They changed it to limit that. I don't know what the current state is.
yeah they made it alot shorter because everyone posted video's on youtube of doing every instance and pvp just by pressing one button. All it meant though was to split the macro's so you would have to be like 123123123123123123123 and get 10 kills
can do the same thing in this game just you are typing 1231111111123111115611171113 honestly MMO combat isn't hard no matter if you have macros or not but to not allow people to make it more enjoyable to them (customizable UI) just feels silly to me.
Maybe because thats not how they designed their game? If you can't play the game the way it was intended by the developers and succeed with the tools available...that speaks more to your "skill" then their design.
Resizing hot keys and being able to move things around is what I would call "customizing UI". Being able to use third party addons (damage meters, healbots etc...) to "customize" is what I would call..modding.
Modding definition: Modding refers to the act of modifying a piece of hardware or software or anything else for that matter, to perform a function not originally conceived or intended by the designer.
I honestly don't understand why people are so against a customizable UI like most MMOs these days use. People honestly seem to get angry when you try to suggest a feature from other games everyone loves and is lacking from this game.
I don't think people are against that as much as the incessant whining. The guy that posted the Lois CK video was right on the mark.
The CK clip doesn't really fit here because people are unhappy about this sort of thing not being in the game when it's been in games for years. Poeple mostly bitch or whine or whatever about features missing in this game that have been in MMO's for years and years. Mnay of them have been added over the years to make MMOs more enjoyable to the user and to appeal to the masses and for this game to not include such features and actually make things as a whole less fun for the masses doesn't really make sense.
It fits perfectly seeing, how you said it yourself. People have grown accustomed or adapted to another games feature. Once you take that way, what happens next? You are doing exactly just that bitching and whining!
Since this is pretty obvious you are a WoW player; coming from a ex-vet since the Vanilla days, I love those macros and addons. I personally have enjoyed them. LET THEM GO already! This is not the same game. Don't show up to SWTOR thinking you can play it exactly the same way.
not till someone can give me a logical explaination as to why they would not include something like this..:P
Yes, why would they not? Addons werent coming to TOR but the latest info is "coming soon after launch" - I bet there will be a lot of features added the next few months of the game, especially when the flood gates open and people go scream around BW boards, I wouldnt worry about it that much. Like the mouse over healing, I bet it gets added, in less than a month, when all the healers are threatening BW to go DPS
I would be for OPTIONAL things, however a lot of games don' thave OPTIONAL indicators, they are just defaulted on and you can't turn em off and your screen is full of pop ups and you lose your depth your immersive feel.
like which games? most everyone I played that had an inidicator like that let you place to wherever you wanted even if you could not turn it off
How easy do you want this game? I mean holy crap, if you just want WoW then go play WoW - I mean really, this game isn't exactly hard as it is, nor is figuring out what to use and when to use it - If you really, really need a indictator to figure your stuff out then maybe this isn't the game for you. I'm sick of everything being dumbed down and easy for everyone with cookie cutter builds and mods and all that other crap.

I would be perfectly happy with just being able to resize and move my hotbar even if nothing else changed.
Oh. no ability to macro everything into 2-3 key presses? I'm cancelling my pre-order!! I want a game that allows me to smash one or two keys over and over while I barely pay attention!
No dual-speccing either? Wah. Now I'll actually have to think about my choices!

I'm really against the dual-speccing, I hate the idea that everyone should be allowed to switch between the best builds depending on what they are doing. This is what led to the outbreak of cookie cutter builds, and flavor of the week crap.

haven't played wow since burning crusade first came out.. been playing rift till about 4 months ago but even then to expect a customizable UI or at least the ability to move my hotbar around is basic free MMO stuff and the fact people are defending them here on that aspect just boggles my mind.. also I'm not going to get in a debate on how similar this game is to toher MMO's in so many ways cause theres plenty of threads on that already.
If you read the forums, or more specifically the Dev posts, they have said several features did not make it into the launch build and would be implemented after. Everything you mentioned has been stated as being added to the game post-launch.
Specifically mentioned was resizing the UI, macro's, and dual-spec.

Actually I did read the OP. It's just another thread with someone whining about how they want TOR to be some other game. Bioware is taking a minimalist approach in order to launch a game with solid core gameplay at launch. They will be adding more features, they have stated this repeatedly.
