Why the hate? First impressions are really good.

plescureplescure Member UncommonPosts: 397

Been seeing a lot of negativity on the forums for this game and a LOT of negativity in the general chat within game, so much so ive had to turn off the area chat cause its just full of ppl trolling about the game.

I genuinely dont understand it. ive been playing the game for a few hours now and ive been very impressed, the combat is gr8 and different, the game looks gorgeuos and so far ive had a lot of fun. i sometimes think people just hate on a game just to get a rise out of ppl.

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!

Having played too many Korean games for my own good, I'm not impressed enough by my first hours to justify the purchase.

In my case, not being hooked at the beginning = the end.

    Just my 2 cents.

Mostly because the game is just very generic, and if the hate on SWTOR told us anything, its that people on this site hate the same old MMO formula. Sure its combat mechanics are different, but the rest of the game plays very much like a traditional standard MMO. Kill X of these, etc.

Im passing on the game for this reason combined with it failing in two previous markets and the retarded hypersexualization which to me just spells "hey look at this eye candy while we distract you from boring game play mechanics."

The only thing I found even remotely interesting about this game so far was the combat. Everything else is cookie-cutter mindless questing....   I can't wait until developers get away from quest grinding. I'd honestly rather kill 10000 boars at this point.

The reason for all the hate is

    1. Its korean

    2. its linear (but just at the start, most people have ADD and cant get to level 20 where things open up)

    3. Say they are sick of the same old , but really not sure what they want differnt, instead of killing mobs, maybe they want to do backflips to level, or knit some helllo kitty dolls, i dont know... but there is a lot different about this game, just sadly pople wont get a chance to see how different this game is since they wont give it a chance.

So general laziness on the part of the developer until that point is excusable?

This is a game, not educational curriculum.

The starting experience is pretty weak, IMHO, and that's going to throw a ton of people off.  Starter area is really basic.  Almost feels like a F2P grinder, at first.  Some people will be enthusiastic enough to push past that, maybe not even notice it, but a lot of others.. not so much.

Doesn't help that the game's launching during such competitive times.  On the heels of TOR, amidst GW2 and TSW?  I'm hoping Tera's a good game, I certainly have no hate for it, but its naturally going to fall to the bottom of that list, for a lot of people.  Or at least, somewhere between TOR and TSW.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

The hate towards games can sometimes be asi9.  But game companys seem to have forgo10 how to make great games.

GW2 has dynamic kill 10 cartonish rats, TSW is going to be so instanced that will be hardly called an MMO plus it's Funcom, Tera has kill 10 quests.

Big deal, they are all going to peak after 3 months anyway, and everyone knows that.

I played day one beta the last weekend. That was enough for me to cancel my preorder and not look back.

Way to easy of a game.

Same old quest grind as any other themepark.

Combat isn't enough to buy the game, since it was pretty boring.

Remember the first 15mins in a game is the most important to new players. If you don't feel it at that pont you won't at max.

Many will like it since it is a casaul game but do we really need more casual themepark games?

Such is the nature of a theme park MMO. Yet whenever anyone suggests something different, those suggestions are met with more hate. Its a lose/lose.

it might be a good game, but im not going to play anything with those "peado" character models in it.

    You missed a bit one:

    4. Combat - While fun at the start it soon wears thin as the AI does not improve and all mobs follow the same pattern making them panfully easy. This is why BAM's are easly solo'd by all classes though some are much after then others. Also while TERA allows for aimed combat it roots the players when they attack basicly replacing tabbing with rooted animation, these can only be broken with dodge moves.

Personally I would like to see combat kicked up a notch, improve the AI so that mobs stop charge animations when players move out of the way and aren't as slow to move and attack. Also allow players freedom of movement while attacking, this would make the combat more challenging and fun when combined faster quicker to react mobs and heck even players in pvp. :-p

OP, I am not sure if your topic is intended or not.

But if you open a thread in any game forum section here with the word "hate" in topic, then you generate what you called for, deserved or not.

  • Deron_BarakDeron_Barak Member Posts: 1,136
Not all attacks root you though the painful ones do, which gives you a chance as melee in PvP. It's an intended feature, one negated by certain glyphs and skills later on, but rarely do people not really interested in the game research that far.

I honestly think the people who spend a day deciding the game is not for them after 10-12 levels are doing themselves a favor. Aside from having fully featured PvE there is a lot of PvP features as well. This means there is more than just quest grinding to do but that has been covered in other threads here.

I think it's funny how the same people complaining how every game is like WoW, play a game just like they would WoW expecting a different result. Yes, first impressions are important but what knowledge do you really gain of a game in one evening on a starter island?

If you think the game is too easy hopefully you've gotten past the starter island. It's not uncommon for starter areas to be simple.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Actually the mobs do change attack sometimes when you hold block. Noticed it quite alot on the basilisks and the bosses in SB. Like you see the mob charging up on of those big attacks so you start blocking and they do something else sometimes like go for another player in your group or start moving instead.

I take it this is something a Lancer experiences more often, I've never played one so I've never noticed though it's nice to know.

As to the poster who assumed I never got off the starter island your wrong, I've had my shot at BAM's in both the US version and Korean version so yes I've gotten off the island, though I never got into glyphs because in the Korean version it was a pain to understand. You should consider slowing down on the assumptions with the WoW comments I don't play WoW nor do I approach a game like it's WoW. What I do expect is for an MMO that talks about how much action the game has to the point of getting Bas to help them advertise to have more action then TERA has demonstrated. C9 has impressed me more with it's combat however it's world (or lack there of) is no were near as rich as TERA's.

    Thanks for proving my point.

    1. Because it's not a typical tab-targeting game.

    2. Free beta key giveaways = trolls.

    3. Tera is not for everyone.
