Seriously, do you even know THAT much?  The people acting like the sky is falling aren't even privy to the product, and especially not the finished product.  Whatever use store items have does not counteract the gameplay as some people are pretending, it only makes things convenient for people who don't want to do things only one way.  I don't think any of the naysayers have proof of the game having "inconvenient" parts simply to justify a cash shop.

Another poll about this is useless.  MMORPG is full of people who like to take a piss on anything, good or bad, because negative opinions get more attention.  But people who are concerned about the cash shop to the point they won't play the game are still a very small minority.

If i find a treasure chest in the game I cant open it unless I go to the cash shop and buy a key.

You dont call that an inconvenience?

Its one thing to be a blind fan but some of you just need to accept whats there and admit it sucks.

    Is this true?

No, it is not. Just another uninformed troll.

No, the uninformed are those who are saying you can open them all without buying the keys.  Now follow closely, and here is the proof:

    1) Key drops at lower rate than chests

    2) You obtain chests faster than you obtain keys in game

    3) As time goes on, you have more and more excess chests

    4) At some point, you need to clear the chests out of your inventory

    5) You then either need to purchase a key, or throw away the chests losing the content in the chests

Now, maybe you think its fun to be juggling chests all the time in your inventory and grinding for keys, but that very crass game mechanic is the epitomy of the F2P cash shop.  With garbage like that, they should not be charging $60 for this game in my opinion.  And it also goes against their promise that you pay for the game once and get to see all the content.  You do NOT get to see all the content in those chests without paying more money.

I mean, we've all seen egregious things like this in cash shops before, but almost always in F2P games.  This is unprecedented in my opinion to charge $60 for this type of cash shop game.

You forgot that butler golems can open them.

I was originally planning on purchasing the game and playing but the latest developments in recent press releases has convinced me to better spend my time elsewhere.

    The reasons include:

Cash shop items that increase XP gain for a limited time. - For a developer to claim that the game doesn't feel like a grind, then release an item that combats the feeling of grind for real money seems hypocritical.

Cash shop items that boost chance to gain magical item drops. - This item is the very definition of gambling, spend money for a higher $chance$ to get a virtual item drop.

Change of heart regarding combat play style, I've never really like any game that has revolved around the idea of rolling and dodging attacks. This type of combat is fairly standard amongst console games and I personally have never really been keen on it.

Other console game like qualities include the aspect of explorable platforming locations in the world similar perhaps to any platformer of old.

A major one is the addition of cash shop at all, the introduction of a cash shop to any game means that content designed for that game no longer is added with the intention of creating enjoyment through adventure, but instead focuses on pleasing the customer immediately in a way similar to "shopping therapy". Cosmetic clothing and items of interesting and great art all make it too the cash shop instead of being a in game item as a reward for completing challenging gameplay. Forever till the end of the game will items be designed with the intent of being sold instead of being played for.

The recent trend in selling beta invites when you sell the game as a way to "entice" players to purchase immediately. The fact that people are willing to buy the BETA of a game leads me to believe the marketing department has indeed earned its pay.

I will no longer participate in this type of hypocrisy and marketing.

The game will sell well, it will be a decent game to play.... for a while.

Guild wars 2 relies waaay more on skills then on gear, so any low geared guy who knows his class will still own you hard,,,

Keep believing that, maybe it will come true.

People dumb enough not to play the game because of 'cash shops' will be depriving themselves of a great game. If they choose to be massochists so be it.

I really feel bad for them because they don't have the intellectual capacity to understant that this gems won't change the economy, nor are the gems pay2win because they don't actually produce any real currency. The supply of gold is still unaffected.

    You're both wrong.

It's not a vertical progression game.  It's easy to get max statistical power.  What you're going for is looks, whether it be through prestige items obtained through dungeon tokens or structured PVP, or easier to obtain looks through crafting or buying them in the AH.

In structured PVP, everyone is boosted to level 80 and has all gear, skills and traits unlocked.  You can go there immediately after completing the tutorial.  It's not that "skill > gear".  ANYONE who knows how to play a class can own you in structured PVP, regardless of how long you've been playing, because they'll have EVERYTHING they need to compete with you on an even level.

In PVE, there's no "owning" whatsoever because it's a purely cooperative game.

In World PVP, players get boosted towards max level but only partially.  A newbie can still play, but they will get owned.  When they do get to level 80, they'll be just as powerful with their easily obtainable gear as the person who has been playing forever (they probably just won't look as cool).  Again, not a vertical progression game.
