I can not nor will I play a game that forces me to use 6,7,8,9,0,-,or = keys. Its unnatural and very bad. I was seriously hoping to change my keybinds to be able to play the way I want to play that felt most comfortable for me. Call me picky but I think my post history will show ive been an avid GW2 fanboy but I will not play this game without being able to use modifier keys for keybinds. HUGE DEAL BREAKER FOR ME! http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/you-cannot-use-modifiers-with-t29948.html
Well, that is an EXTREMELY odd reason to go from fan to completely giving up on a game. It's honestly hard to tell if this is genuine or a troll attempt. To each their own, I guess, but I can't wrap my head around this one. I mean, it'll take a few hours to get into the playstyle of the game at best. How is it hard to understand that a person doesn't want to play something that will be uncomfortable for him as a player? Wouldn't that be the most important thing about any game? I know it is for me. Especially if it features competition against other players.
UI issues typically are huge for many. This particular one, I could adapt, but there have been games I dropped for UI settings I couldn't customize.
I love to be able to hold down mouse buttons to run and steer with the mouse. But that tends to interfere with targeting, so I need ways to accommodate that.
I hate games where you have to point and click to move. ETC.
Why is anyone giving the guy a hard time. If a person is comfortable with a certain style of playing games, and has been for years, it's not much to ask for a minor tweek to a UI. Unless Anet has a specific reason not to have it, what is the harm for some keybinds?
Hang in there OP, if anyone ever messed with my comfort zone, it would be a deal breaker for me too. You're not crazy.

Some more rightious people show such brand loyalty that they can overlook whether they are actually enjoying themselves, why can't the OP do that, just saying.

All I heard was 'I am outraged and can't play this game because it doen't conform to what I know and what I am emotionally comfortable with'.
I remember a time when games were not condemned and discarded simply because they asked us to learn a different way of playing.
I miss those day of diversity and distinctive deign... How can they ever be expected to return when faced with this klind of public intolerance for learning new things though?
Personally I don't have a problem with this... But I think you can bind your spells to the keys you want, but combination of 2 keys is unavailable at the moment... That's how I seen it the last time, we should wait and see press reviews on monday.

This is an established form of combat 1-=, many games have it, most allow you to change it. There's nothing new about this aspect of GW2, if he doesn't like that control scheme he doesn't like it.

EXACTLY and ONLY what you wanted to hear, nothing more.
Seriously..is it so hard to try to understand? So what if he didn't like it. I am sure he'll calm down and find there were many other reasons to play.

I suspect it's because the OP is getting onto the GW2 forums (which are full of fans) and broadcasting a dealbreaker, of which he is probably aware is fairly minor to most players. It's an issue that he could have kept to himself, or brought up in a less dramatic manner. That's my guess.

I understood him fully. Would you like to demonstrate how you think I didn't?
But... so what indeed. But he posted his drama condemnation of the control systems and cries of 'I won't play because it's not what I am used to' and so I responded with my thoughts on his post. Or do you think that shouldn't be allowed?

I didn't say it was 'new', I was obviously talking in favour of diversity.
The only reference I made to 'new' was the OP learning a control system new (as in unfamiliar) to him, which is his entire whine.

What you did was twist his words into what your opinion of his words should be as though that's what he said.
Then you proceeded to totally invalidate his opinion.
Then you ask me why shouldn't you have the right to express your opinion?
Really?
But OK, fine, to answer, Of course you do, But you also have to extend the same coutesy to someone else.

Stop with the fanboi hysteria already. It's getting old, like your continuous harping on it. Some people agree with the OP, even if we don't feel it's game breaking for us personally. I guess you aren't seeing those posts since they don't give you a reason to bitch 'til your breathless.

Oh, sorry, did I strike a nerve?
OP Posted a legitimate concern. He got his ass reemed by people for it, and yet you call me out for calling them out?
Why don't you call the people out who were rude to him personally.
I only called out the behavior, I never addressed anyone in particular.
Why is it OK to call someone a Retard for questioning GW2 but it's not OK to question somone who calls someone a retard?

OK, I am sorry, you are correct, I see the error of my ways. I am all done now, i feel better I got that out.
Why in hells bells would they not impliment keybinds for 1-5? Tons of mmo players play that way. I thought this was available in GW1, because I had listened to a few podcasts and the hosts mentioned they used the number keys.
I dont play that way. I use the keyboard to move around and use the mouse to tap abilities and spells but alienating those that dont is really weird to me. I wouldnt think this would be a very hard thing to impliment in comparison to everything else. I find it kind of hard to believe.
i think there are no modifiers because you wont need extra skillbars. I dont have any problem with no modifiers because of 2 reasons: 1) i never use them, find them too much hassle, personally. 2) i only use from 1 through 5 with left hand, then i activate everything else from 6 to 9,0,-,= and all upper or extra skillbars with mouse clicks so i dont have to look at the keyboard to accurately hit the key i want and losing my target from sight

I don't think it's an excuse; I'm just taking a stab at the situation, because someone asked. It was meant to be pretty unbaised, as I am fairly neutral on the matter.
This is what differentiates the fanboys from constructive criticism. All of you that are saying it's still in beta, or that it's no big deal, are the same players that criticized Swtor for not having basic features. It's a very basic feature in almost all PC games across genres.
There is a valid reason to worry because GW1 doesn't allow modifiers either.
It's ok to criticize the game you love. You will make it better when the devs listen.

Stay classy GW2 fanboys.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
I don't have an issue with it, but I can see why a few people would. Hopefully your concerns will be addressed before launch.
