Why in hells bells would they not impliment keybinds for 1-5? Tons of mmo players play that way. I thought this was available in GW1, because I had listened to a few podcasts and the hosts mentioned they used the number keys.
I dont play that way. I use the keyboard to move around and use the mouse to tap abilities and spells but alienating those that dont is really weird to me. I wouldnt think this would be a very hard thing to impliment in comparison to everything else. I find it kind of hard to believe.
You can rebind keys as much as you want. You can even have alternate key binds. The issue is that as of the latest info we had, you couldn't use modifiers (ctr, alt, shift) with keybinds. You can bind the 1-10 to any keys you want, but you can't bind 6-10 to the 1-5 keys with a modifier, (ctr+1, ctr+2, etc...)
I would think this will change for launch, but at the very least we can indeed rebind keys to our liking.
I've played MANY Betas where you could not change the bind of keys. Anyone smart enough and desperate enough to want their own keys would simply write a macro to change the functions of certain keys on the keyboard while playing said game anyways.
I'm a lefty. So how do you think I feel about keys not being able to be changed? Yea it sucks... I use the numpad mostly... BUT I find solutions to my problems. I don't bitch about issues that are not really issues.
Like others have said, it's Beta. I think making it so you can customize your key bindings is last on their list of stuff to get done.
get a Razer Naga or a decent keyboard and the problem is solved.
The OP's concern doesn't bother me (I'll just adjust to how the game plays, that's what I always do), but I can understand it. But why should someone have to dish out cash to change how they play games? It sounds to me like the OP is a pretty serious gamer who's style fits with the typical MMO game, why should they now have to change how they do things or buy new equipment? I can see why that could be a game breaker for someone.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
I am now going to admit something very embarrassing, thanks to the OP's inspiration......
I use my left hand for attacks 1-5
I am.....omg.....I'm going to say it.....I am a.....a......a clicker on 6 - =
There. I said it. Please be gentle.
HAHAHAHA!!!!
I'm a clicker for everything! My left hand controls movement, my right hand the mouse. I find it too hard to use WSAD and 1-5 at the same time so I click.
OK gamers! Let's hear it! lol

I also agree with this.
I'm hoping they change their stance on this (and I honestly don't see why they would be against it tbh). So far, to my knowledge, Anet has not came out and said they won't implement this, it just isn't in the current beta build. It could be an oversight, or a feature, or it could just be that Anet plans to change that in the future but wants to focus on more pressing mechanics first.
I think the point's been made pretty loudly already. Lets hope they listen to it.

This is why I love my SteelSeries Merc Stealth... I can remap all of that outside the game.

Sorry, but an awful lot of GW2 "fans" remind me of the Vanboys that infested forums before Vanguard was released.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Gah, double post.

Is 'Did I strike a nerve?' the new 'U mad?' that won't get you banned from the forum or something?
Must be a hipster thing

I'd do something like this:
1 = E
2, 3, 4, 5 = 2 ,3, 4, 5
6 (heal) - Mouse Side Button
7, 8, 9 (Utility Skills) - Z, X, C
0 (Elite) - ` or 1
Change Weapons - R
Target Next Foe - Q
Dodge - Shift or another Mouse Button
That'll do me nicely.
I also agree with this.
