GW2 is not going to be like so many hope for. They don't have tons of money to toss at this. And every kind of game, mmo get these silly threads before the game launchs and will give up tons of money for sight unseen.
To much time has passed. The graphics look dated and you cant go by some video. If you get the chance to see it before you buy then do what you want. But lol try not to use the word "hard core" when your going by some video.. I know you got in the beta played it blah blah..
Good game but so much of it has changed.. buying it? Not yet..
I would buy the game even if I didn't know anything about it. I loved Guild Wars 1 and I spend god knows how many hours playing GW so there's no way I am missing out on GW2.
I have given up on MMOs and GW2 is the only one I will buy (I would've thought about it if it had a sub). If I don't like it, I will never buy another MMO.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
Obviously not, as it isn't ready for release, but even if they polish it, i will buy it but probably play it once in a blue moon, unless they overhaul a great many aspects of the game, it can not be my primary game.

nop, i realy had high hopes for this game....but then the greed came with the shop......if they would have made it a sub i would have played it. But now they added the shop i can go and play D3 (yeah i know it has RMT too but at least they never lied about it).
So...you'd prefer they'd charge you an exorbitant monthly fee so that you have a slight potential maybe chance of receiving a couple of hours worth of new content every year? And an expansion which will add on to that cost?
How did they ever lie about the cash shop? How are they greedy? They are selling nothing that makes anyone more powerful than another person; their worst offense so far is not including a charr plush with the CE. I hardly think D3's Real Money Auction House can claim any holier-than-thou purity, and I hardly think you've researched your arguments very well.
I'm really sick of the whole "There's a massive fanbase for X", or "Y would be a WoW-killer if it just had a chance".
There is no massive conspiracy waiting in the MMO playerbase.
There are no "sleeper-agent fans" waiting to convert once the X or Y is unleashed on the world.

EDIT: The question I'm asking is if it were offered to YOU specifically, and not a general release. Even I wouldn't want them to launch before it's ready..........yes I would..........no...........yes............no.........
I love how you're opening statement reads, "This is NOT for trolls.." yet the only options in the poll are either "Yes" or "Are You Crazy" rather than just "No.".... Really?
First, it's self deprecating humor. Humor, you've heard of that, right. Ffs man, I'm taking a jab at myself. Alternatively, it can be viewed as an emphatic no, or, "not just no, but, hell no. Some people are so bent on figuring out a way to be cute and or caustic, they're just freakin blind.
You really have to be a super fan boy to think that a game is ready when we are still at the begining of close beta.
First, SuperGWFandaddy, I don't think that will fit, but I'll think about making the switch. Second, the very question infers that it's not ready. That's the whole point, remember "in its current state"? Personally, I wish they'd release the character creator so I could nail down the look of all my chars, but, that's just me, or just me and a few thousand others.
I find this amusing and also hypocrisy at its finest... "Would you buy it in its current state?".Current state meaning, unfinished...and overwhelmingly, it appears the large majority of you would... yet.....all day long I read post bitching about unfinished games rushed by the developers and how much its ruining the genre...yet, the majority here would by the unfinished product today if made available ..... amazing. Those who said yes, give yourself a big pat on the back...lol. Obviously not, as it isn't ready for release, but even if they polish it, i will buy it but probably play it once in a blue moon, unless they overhaul a great many aspects of the game, it can not be my primary game.
What? You will buy it?
I am shocked, that is the first positive thing I seen you say about it in all the posts you said about the game....
I am actually going to buy it in its current state, at least the state its in on april 10. I will pre-purchase it april 10 and that must be the same as buying it.
The flat progression turned off all of my friends.
We are all hardcore raiders/pvpers. None of us like the idea of some level 1 player making a brand new character, going into the mist and instantly being equal to us, completely negating time and effort spent in game.
A fresh lvl 1 character bumped to lvl 80 is not the equal of a character who has progressed to lvl 80. The lvl 1 character bumped to lvl 80 will be a hollowed out shell in comparison.
Though I hope it isnt as bad, the SWTOR version of this is an example of what I am talking about. Those characters who got bumped to lvl 50 in SWTOR pvp were able to participate in warzones, but if they were caught out of position and had to 1v1 a true lvl 50.......GG.
Edit: Forgot to answer the OP. Yes, I would buy the game now. Without a doubt.
Yep, SWTOR tried that with their battlegrounds and it sucked ass. Not sure how it will fly in GW2.
And no, I would not buy the game in its current state. I no longer am the kind of gamer that will buy a pig in a poke. I'll wait and see how the game does once it is released into the wild, where it is no longer protected by the devs and their marketing department letting us see only what they want us to see.
There are some big differences in how it will work in GW2 vs. SWTOR.
TOR used scaling, with out skill and gear unlocks, for PVP arena based combat. The nature of balanced team, arena combat in confined spaces really relies on balance for their to be fun for both sides. There was nothing balanced about the TOR version of PVP scaling.
In GW2, the arena based PVP scales not just level, but gives players access to all the skills, traits and max stat gear, making it completely about skill, rather than PVE world based character progression.
There are even a few differences between the TOR scaling method and scaling in WvW in GW2.
The power curve for gear in GW2 is less steep than in other games.
There are no PVP specific stats or PVP specific armor in GW2 PvE/WvW.
By level 30(of 80), all your skill bar slots are unlocked, (your Elite Skill slot being the last to unlock). In GW2, access to particular skills is not limited by your character's level. If you have an appropriate slot for a skill and enough skill points to purchase it, you can buy it and use it. A big problem with TOR PVP scaling was that there were some extremely powerful skills for PVP that you couldn't obtain until the higher levels. No matter how good the scaling was, the skill set disparity was just too huge.
In GW2, you do earn skill points for leveling, but there are also many skill point challenges, with a wide variety of win conditions, through out the game world. A character can have more skill points at a given level than another character, if the player actively pursues skill point challenges. Level isn't always the determining factor in skill access for GW2. However, a reminder that the advantage for one who pursues skill point opportunities is diversity of skills to chose from, not the raw power of skills available to that character.
So, in GW2, there would be a sizable disparity in WvW between a level 2 character and a level 80 character. Not only the difference is gear, but a level 2 character whould have access only to the weapon skills they have unlocked and their heal skill. However, the disparity between a level 30 and a level 80 would be much less pronounced, since the level 30 would have all skill slots unlocked and with wise skill selection could have a full compliment of active skills just as effective as those of the level 80 character. Scaling of stats occurs, which cuts down a bit on the gear advantage, though the level 80 would have more traits slotted.
In most games, even a level 70 would have little chance vs. a well equiped level 80, no matter how good the level 70 player was and how bad the level 80 player was. The advantage granted by level disparity in GW2 WvW is much reduced vs. standards set by other titles. Skill will play a much bigger role, but true level will still provide an edge.
A Lvl 80 player should be far superior to someone "bumped" to 80, not just because of skills, but, experience with those skills. For the sake of argument, let's say lower Lvl players are given all the skills available to a natural 80. He's not going to have any experience with how those skills work, and which will fit his style. It would be a daunting task to go through a huge list of skills you're unfamiliar with, and make an effective build. Ok, you say, he could just go to wiki and find an effective build. Fine, now he's got an effective build. Does he have the experience to know when and how to use those skills? No. And he doesn't know when to switch weapon sets, or which weapon set to switch to to be effective in any given situation.
For me, I'm more of a PVE kind of guy anyway, though GW2's PVP is looking tempting, I don't see myself taking a low lvl into PVP at anytime, unless I plan to do that on day 1, and doing nothing but, PVP. That';s what the hardcore PVP'rs will be doing, and when I decide to roam into the land of "you've been pwned", it won't be with a lvl 2, that would be foolish. I think most of the community understand that, and if they don't, they'll probably get it, pretty quick.
I would add Trion to that list of developers. RIFT was quite possibly the most polished game on release I have seen since the original GW1. Blizzard's WoW wasn't that bad, but it wasn't polished IMO.
Played: SWG, SWG:NGE, EQ2, Vanguard, LotRO, WoW, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Mortal Online, Rift, Guild Wars, Fallen Earth, EVE Online, Ryzom, Dungeons and Dragons Online, World of Tanks, Aion, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2
We don't even know when GW2 is releasing so i don't get this 'i will buy it when its ready'. If history is any proof MMOS don't change dramatically from beta to release. So i don't understand what magic people are waiting to happen at release.
I don't pre order just out of principle but i know GW2 will be more or less same at release. So if you are not like me why not pre order now?
yes i would. im buying the collectors edition so i would defiantly buy it even if they released it 1 week after the pre-orders/pre-purchases are available with all the bugs and issues they have. i have been playing guild wars for 5 years now. arena net is the best publisher i have ever seen(coming from someone that hates the current mmo market).

To me the only reason to pre-order is when something is going to be hard to find, which is almost non-existent in this day and age, considering Downloadable games. The only real exception might be CE's which are also never hard to find anymore.
I won't buy it until I see it in action, whether that's getting into beta, trying a trial, or watching a friend play.

Yeah it sounds like the game still has quite a long way to go. Optimization is a big one. Two of the races are not playable.
I've been forever changed by Funcom and will never believe in the hype from any company. Wait and see now.
