I believe they're in denial myself but there's the article.
Me personally I'm going to believe the company that runs the game before I believe a bunch of people who are hell bent on thinking everyone in the world must think the same way they do, I mean most of the people on this site hate WOW does it mean WOW is lying about their sub numbers? (well actually many of these same trolls have excuses for why the numbers they release can't possibly be true either).
Having said that I do think that it's possible marketing practices like everyone playing for free for like the last two to three weeks helps but I also see this as a good thing (whether it's because they are bleeding subs or not).
It's good to see a game that I enjoy as much as I do TOR give the customers something for what I consider to be nothing. I mean honestly this far in TOR is a much better game than say STO in the same time frame of release and all Cryptic ever did was release more c store crap constantly even with the knowledge that a large percentage of the player base was not happy with what they were doing including the constant releases onto the c store.
the bottom line is only time will tell where TOR is going to end up for my money I see then getting and keeping about 600-700k players but to break the million mark and sustain that level it seems they'll have to take care of the pvp crowd.
I get what you're saying, but come on. Star Trek Online? That's not that hard of a standard to beat.
The Rakgoul Event was something new and Bioware needs to do more stuff like it. More variety in dailies would be nice as well. But they really are pulling a fast one by saying that they haven't lost any subs. Anyone that's playing the game can see it.
Sadly it is not Bioware that is saying that, that are people who are fully responsible why game didn`t made bigger success and that kind of people do not play games looks like it.
On the other hand, you can troll about WOW as you like but still over 7 million people play that game (Personaly, I took a brake, 2nd one in my 7 year old history of playing WOW) so WOW is ULTIMATE King when it comes to MMORPG, still and will be like that for few more years. This is not discussion that are facts.
The End
To help save you time in future, the full stop you used after "facts" was sufficient to let people you you had finished your post. "The End" was just overkill in my opinion.
Of course subscriber number havent dropped since they keep having Free Weekends, 25 Friend Invites, 30day/7day Free. Even those that have cancelled still have active accounts
Bioware wont let anybody leave.
That last part struck me funny, ty for the morning laugh.

I'm still appologizing to friends about SWTOR. To my defense though, I did tell them all that I found wrong with it, and the devs never listening in beta, and the game being released without standard features. It was just a filler game for a few months while waiting on better games to come out. I warned them but still get blamed they wasted $60 bucks hehe.
I cancelled after 1.2 patch but they gave me free 30 days of sub.
So apparently I'm still "subbed" :J
I suggest going back once more after the free 30 days to make sure that your account is fully closed out if you aren't going to be playing anymore. I had an issue with this myself getting charged once more after canceling. This was before they started the free weeks so their systems might be better now.
Just a fair warning.. Have fun with the free game time though..
Oh god that would be so classic if at their next meeting they say they have 1.7 million subs again with additional vague descriptors to state a certain portion of them are paying customers. Sure they can go higher now though. May as well since its all smoke and mirrors anyways.

Never thought Bioware would stoop down this low and be in denial. Though I guess if it came officially from Bioware's tongue that they are losing players panic would spread and many more would follow.

Movie studios can absorb the occasional bomb because they have 5 more in the pipleline. They have to run up a few in a row to get into trouble.
A place like (even) EA doesn't have that luxury. If TOR is really cratering to the extent it's looking like, it could put the entire company into a hole it may take years to dig out of, if it even can at all. Madden can't save them, because they've already written out the budget assuming it'll get the usual big sales. It's not likely they have a project that can turn into a surprise mega-hit anytime soon, let alone cover for TOR.
That's why EA's already gone desperate. Never in their wildest dreams did they think Old Republic would tank (which is some of the reason it HAS) and now they realize how dangerous of an anchor it is to the rest of company if they don't act to stop it.
The #1 question is if it's already too late to prevent the consequences.
Well the person that PC Gamer spoke to isn't quoted as saying that su bs have not dropped - check the quote marks.
So the "EA claims that subs are not dropping" is, imo, PC Gamer speak based - maybe? - on what JR told the analyst conference at the start of March. At that point he used the same 1.7M number as was given out in February i.e. EA says that subs are not fropping as of start of March.
So I think this is old news - since when EA have gone into marketing overdrive.
I'm still playing and still having a good time and will keep sub'ing til I'm no longer having fun. To be completely honest.. the only thing keeping me here is the fact that it's Star Wars, 1 and 2, there's really nothing better out to play right now imo.
As I'm a really casual player, I'm still having a blast going through the story line of several characters. I must admit though.. it does seem like my server is getting smaller. There is a lot of talk of server merges in general chat and the need for them.

Dont forget they have stated they count anyone with a registered credit card as a subscriber even if that subscription has lapsed.

This is all just becoming one massive /facepalm.
Of course they are, and the people they gave a free 30 days to etc etc, anything to pad up the numbers.
I'm probably still on the list though my sub runs out at the end of the month.

Avatars are people too
Bioware and EA are trying the squeeze the last few dollars they can before the mass exodus becomes public:
- Denying any problems with SWTOR to the press
- paying a lot of marketing shills to spam their official forums with positive spin
- not addressing important issues with the game like server populations/merges and class balance
- not putting up a new PTS for a new patch with the missing content from 1.2 (ranked warzones? nope)
Basically, it's Warhammer all over again.
New content will get cut back and development will stop completely.
Just faster... and with a larger drop in subs.
Soon to be seen. SWG is reactivated. SWTOR is closed Dec 2012. Then the end comes.
Thought it was just me but I got the Warhammer feeling from beta and into release. It's obvious now, it's very much like how Warhammer went down.
