DEs - Run around with a bunch of people picking apples, chopping trees and zerging monsters. No stratagey needed. No communication needed. If you die run back until the event ends. Very low stress no prepartion time needed. Jump in when ever you want.
PvP - Click a button jump in a battle. Gear is normalized. No need to gear up. Learn the rules, then zerg towers, zerg keeps, zerg supply lines? Heavy emphasis on groups. Not much 1v1.
Progression - Max level gear is all weighted the same. One person my have a different stat allocation, but the power level is the same. No tiers, no power advancement. A person playing for 5 months is the same as someone who has played 1 month, other than cosmetics.
I think this is perfect for a couple of my friends who work long hours. I'll probably tell them to buy a copy so we can jump in on the weekend and get a few hours of pvp in. If I'm correct they should be at no disadvantage compared to those who spend 40 hours a week in game, right?
You are 100% correct, and yet 100% wrong at the same time... strange, isn't it?
GW2 supports people with limited time and availability, but it is not a casual game, imo. Yes, they can jump into PVP at any time. In arena pvp they will have normalized levels/gear, in WvW they will have normalized levels only. You can jump in and do stuff with your friends for 30 minutes, or an hour, and then leave... etc. etc. etc
On the other hand, WvW is a lot more than just "zerg it!!!", although it is possible to be overwhelmed by huge numbers(but that is the case in any game, no matter how hardcore). Player skill makes a huge difference.
All in all, I would say tell them to get it and play with you. There is no sub, so once they've bought the box, whether they are playing one hour a month, 100 hours a month, or even 0 hours in a month, they aren't getting any more or less value out of their money... Personally, after playing it a bit and reading/watching everything I can, I firmly believe that GW2 is as casual or as hardcore as you want it to be(so long as your definition of hardcore does not include raiding for stat gear... they do have stuff for cosmetic gear). It caters to the entire gamut of play-styles...
If you mean a casual game in which you don't have to grind forever to progress or that you can pick up and play at any time? Then yes it is a casual game.

The disadvantage is that skill counts. Having the same tools available to you as everyone else will do you no good unless you know how to use them. That takes time and practice. This applies in PvE and PvP. And you're not just having to memorize 10 or 15 skills either, but all of the alternate uses most of them have. Few skills are just for damage or healing or interrupting. Most of the time, there are several optional ways you can use them beyond what's listed in the tooltip. Again, only player experience reveals those things.

So this is the generation playing games now huh? Back in my day, we had the nintendo world power championships. And you'd have about 80 people, all who have played marrio bro 3 before. So it was the same game. Obviously mario is still the same. Yet we had a winner in those tournaments. Some people were just faster than others, some people learned tricks the others didnt. Some people were just good at playing the game. That's what seperated good people.
No one needed to give mario a racoon hat of +4 because he played 50 times more than the next guy. No, the guy who played 50 more times than the next guy showed in his playstyle.
So, if you need a good star, go to CVS. Else, your skills will show.
I'm not even sure what the world casula is. I know that I have had 2 non-gaming friends get into old school MMOs and figure out how to play, ease right in. It was quite easy and casula for them. I had one of those friends play the beta of gw2. They commented they could not just push buttons in a redetermined sequential order. It was frustrating, until they realized, they would have to learn how to play the game.
So, I think this may be one of the first games actually not geared toward "the casual gamer" or the person who just wants to pick up the controller and play. Even from the get go, u need to learn how to not just stand there, but dodge, aim and abilities for situations.

I don't think he is trying to attack "Guild Wars 2" o.o. The opening post sounds like one a person would do if they were thinking about recommending their game to their very busy friends.

Yes your friends will have lots of fun in GW2, the game is for both casual and hardcore, since WvWvW needs lots of time sink
The answer is easy, YES. Thats why GW2 will be a 2nd game for most of their playerbase. With all the fanboys around, tbh, Is just pointless to make a list about why it will be casual?.
Please explain why GW2 would be a second game? There is more to do than any other MMO out there.

I suppose that the implication is that many people have issue with money rather than time, so since GW2 is so cheap, they would be able to afford a sub + GW2, but not two subs.
People throw the term "casual" around and they have no idea at all what it means.
Casual means it's easy to get into.
It does not mean easy, though often times the outcome of casualization is a game becoming easy.
With GW2s systems you do not need to grind or play for excessive amounts of time to become good, and by that definition, it's casual. Also with that definition, Quake and UT are casual.

it doesnt matter how many stuff is in the game.it matters how long it takes to complete it
with the way guild wars 2 is set up.i doubt gw2 is going to be anything more then the mmo people play along side of the mmo there already playing.if your playing guild wars 2 soly by itself, your probably gonna get bored of it after playing 1 day with how its set up

you get back to me when you get bored after an hour of running all the max level stuff over and over again
thats, why gw2 is going to be a second game
that's a pretty silly way to look at it.. how is that differn't from any other game though?.. if I enjoy endgame stuff in GW2 more than I do any other MMO then why would I not stick with GW2?
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

you get back to me when get bored doing the same raid for a month just to get some pointless piece of armor. In gw1 people get to max level in 1-2 days, and yet they kept playing for years! Why is that?

what's funny is that you don't seem to understand that getting gear (grinding) and leveling up (grinding) are not the only motivators people have to play an MMO.
I played UO for years and there was NO gear (for the most part) and really NO leveling as it only took a few days to GM most skills.
When the reward is the game itself, you don't have to be concerned about chasing after rewards (carrot on a stick.)

I don't really see that as being a bad thing. It just means that GW2 has the potential to become the most played MMORPG on the market. Without the barrier of the subscription payment model and the stigma of the free to play model and being a genuinely good game, millions will pick it up.

End-game starts at level 1. That's hard to understand unless you did the BWE and went back to do low level content at a higher level. The end-game is the game itself and two full days playing every waking moment left me wanting more.
As we level we open up more and more of the world, but all of the low level zones remain challenging and can be replayed.
The structured PvP was amazing, no gear grind required.
WvW was fun, especially Sunday after people began to figure it out.
I haven't even done any dungeons, yet... and they all have hard modes as well as "dynamic events" that trigger inside the actual dungeon and change the content.
A huge and explorable world filled with hidden puzzles and dynamic content that will be updated, fair and balanced structured PvP that doesn't require a gear grind, epic WvW battles, and 5 man dungeons with varying difficulty and varying content... what game can make this look like a secondary game?
i never raided for pointless pieces of armor.i raided for enjoyment, something that world of warcrafts community ruined in terms of pve

because alot of people like the grindy style mmos have.and guild wars 2 doesnt have that
which is why i said,if guild wars 2 has a good population a year after release ill be suprised.people are gonna log in day 1,run pvp and pve over and over and over again.and get bored a couple hours later and log off

I don't really see that as being a bad thing. It just means that GW2 has the potential to become the most played MMORPG on the market. Without the barrier of the subscription payment model and the stigma of the free to play model and being a genuinely good game, millions will pick it up.
it doesnt matter how many stuff is in the game.it matters how long it takes to complete it
with the way guild wars 2 is set up.i doubt gw2 is going to be anything more then the mmo people play along side of the mmo there already playing.if your playing guild wars 2 soly by itself, your probably gonna get bored of it after playing 1 day with how its set up
End-game starts at level 1.
A huge and explorable world filled with hidden puzzles and dynamic content that will be updated, fair and balanced structured PvP that doesn't require a gear grind, epic WvW battles, and 5 man dungeons with varying difficulty and varying content... what game can make this look like a secondary game?
because alot of people like the grindy style mmos have.and guild wars 2 doesnt have that
which is why i said,if guild wars 2 has a good population a year after release ill be suprised.people are gonna log in day 1,run pvp and pve over and over and over again.and get bored a couple hours later and log off
