If gw2 lacks some feature that is so important, what is so hard about not playing it? Anet might add some sort of pvp, like maybe pvp events in a separate area, but it does not seem likely there will be open world ffa pvp. This being the case, why not just move on to games that do provide the feature you want?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Sure WoW has a number of PvP realms and they were extremely fun to play on in Vanilla (my original 1-60 was on a pvp server), but those servers are more or less dead for open world pvp. Battlegrounds and Arena saw to that. Basically, once open world pvp became about gank groups running around griefing folks, I decided to play on another server.

    To the OP:

If you have done your research, you would have seen that GW2 was designed from the ground up as a cooperative experience. The WvWvW pvp is as close as you will get to an open world PvP experience. As others have said, you cannot simply tag certain servers as open pvp servers because the core design of the game is against it. Keep looking, because you're not going to get what you want from GW2.

The number of people and just number of PvP servers as compaired to PvE servers shows that a  smaller portion of the gaming community want open world PvP vs the larger portion that want conrolled PvP.

My friends and I come from RIft and TERA, as avid fans of open world pvp we are disappointed. This game seems catered towards casual players, or PvE carebears, everyone wants to hold eachothers hand. WvW is not challenging enough, sPvP doesn't give us what we desire, so my question is: Why is there no open world PvP? Many games have the option of a seperate PvP server, why doesn't GW2?

    LOL @ OP

Why bother? Didn't you know all gw2 players are mostly likely the ones you stomped in those games? This won't change. They are keyboard warriors, who come on forums to talk tough and yet lack any skills to back it up. My suggestion - stick to another game or practise sPvP with your clan. WvW is not what ANet is aiming for as an esport.

Sigh.   I think people should be forced to read   Who plays, how much, and why? Debunking the stereotypical gamer profile sometime.

PvP, of the ten major motivational factors MMO gamers exhibit is second to last and it's lumped in with economic and crafting competition.   If it weren't, it'd be dead last as an MMO motivator.

Social is #1.  And even 'silly and vanity' things like customizing your avatar is more important to the average MMO gamer than PvP.   In fact, it's pretty much fair to say that PvP is the most over-blown, over-hyped, over-cried about thing in MMO discussions.

Most people just don't give a crap about PvP.  And even those that like to PvP, huge swaths of them are occassional/casual PvPers, not hardcore.   That's why when you have PvP/PvE server types in games, you see the huge discrepancy between total PvE and total PvP servers.   That's why PvP centric MMOs don't fare as well as PvE centric MMOs.

PvPers, especially the hardcore, are a minority.   Unfortunately, they are a loud minority who think MMOs should revolve around their needs as if they're in the majority.     They're not.    Real competition PvPers play on-line shooters where it's all about PvP and only PvP.   And yet the forums are flooded by the vocal minority who act as if their minority gameplay is what MMOs are about.

They're not.  They're predominantly social games played by predominantly social gamers for social reasons.

EDIT:  Because pre-coffee I lost the thread of the post and had to clean it up.

Of course there is nothing like "Open PVP" in on-line shooters, or even RTS tournament leagues, it's more like a structured PVP MMO. And you don't see people asking for "Open PVP" in those either which would've been utterly pointless.

Care to have a match in any really challenging game that requires actual skill and tactics and not ganking/griefing bs like in Open PVP games so we can see who is the tough guy? "Oh games without Open PVP are for carebears, Open PVP is much more challenging" I'm sick of this ridiculous and utter crap line. So playing with an "unfair" advantage makes you tough? No it doesn't. Real challenge comes from real "fair" PVP where skill wins. IF you can't handle that stick with Open PVP games.

This is a real tough hardcore competitive PVPers

In GW2, if you want tough challenge just play sPVP, if you want open massive pvp and don't concern the unfair advantage (that make you feel so proud) just play WvWvW.

if you dont't like any ideas of these, just play another game, simple as that

I liked SWG on how they did PVP on their server with a TEF (Temporay Enemy Flag)

This kept the PVE players (whether Imp, Reb or Neutral) doing their PVE while PVP Imperial players would be running around looking for other PVP Rebel players. I am all for this cause sometimes a PVE player would like to jump into a PVP fight to help out their same faction if they got the itch.

I also believe PvP shouldn't be forced onto a player that just wants to PVE on the PVP server (sometimes players just want to watch the fights instead of living them).

FFA and Open World PvP just leads to ganking lowbies, I know some players that are level capped wont go around killing noobs, but you do have that PvP base that believe that RED means DEAD no matter what level you are.

As stated, if you want a good PvP game, you gotta find yourself a good Sandbox mmorpg that uses player skills over player level.

At least in GW2 I didn't really participate in as much WvW on the BWEs, but I have seen several videos around where a large zerg was held back and even defeated by a much smaller group by smart use of siege weapons.

What can men do against such reckless hate?

i agree anytime there is open world pvp there is always a group of jerks who proceed to make a low lvl persons life hell in game plus the idea is to work together not fight each other

Casual and Carebear, yes because ganking someone who is much lower level that they can't even fight back or attacking someone that is engaged on a mob with less than half life ... is so hardcore and so elite. I'm sorry you and your guild of internet badasses aka those guys that got picked on in high school can't run around and grief lowbies guess you will have to go play darkfall or EVE.

its amazing to always hear how hardcore those that want Open PVP are, yet whenever i play on an Open PVP server (and yes i spent the majority of my time on Rifts PVP servers as well as a lot of time on Mordred in DAOC) they only engage if ...

The enemy has much lower health than them

They are much much higher level

they have a full group with them

    or all of the above.

I found this little gem in your posting history:

Don't you guys have anything better to do than continually trashing a game that shouldn't be worth your precious time anyway? How lame is that?
Where you even being serious when you said that? Because all you've been doing in the last couple of months is exactly the thing you call "lame"...

LOL. I couldn't care less what a random nerd thinks about me, nor do I have to prove anything to you.

But out of pity: I played competitve dota years ago, on the wc3 engine. For the team: "Back to Basics". We won every LAN event, back then it wasn't possible to make international trips unless you had a sponser. I have also reached 2k elo+ on League of legends and played with proz regularly S1. Quit hardcore gaming to focus on studies.

Thats my competitive history and I've made more money of it then you ever will. Whats yours? Log on forums, act like a blindfanboy and play HKO?

So you call him a nerd, then you describe a nerd, then you act like a nerd >.<

well first off im not "butthurt" by no means which is also a stupid word and i could care less about carebear anything anything can be carebear depends on the user and yes look around you everyone lies about something or another especially in a forum when noone can prove anything and you can say anything so am i so naive i beleive everything i read on the internet no im not i mean if you want to believe everyone tells the truth then go ahead but i think youll be slightly disappointed

Is it ok if i like Opvp and instanced?image I had a ton of fun in GW1 in TA and GvG making team builds. Also had fun in Warhammer and not just ganking lowbies but more of random encounters that escalde into big fights for hours.
