please everyone read the above link, and make it a sticky, so we dont have these pay to win topics pop up atleast 2 times a day.
this is not meant to be a discussion topic, but as a fact and a statement... There is no reason to discuss this for now and the future anyhow, as there are no plans either to go free to play ... Just accept this as a fact...

Yeah I don't trust that the game won't go F2P shortly after launch.
Look at TERA, I purchased collectors edition paid over $100 for a game that I didn't even play for 8 hours before saying im done because of the UI Font Size bug on smaller monitors.
On top of this I was told that the game would not be pay 2 enjoy or other words charge for cosmetic items but shortly after game Goes F2P and here we go Cash Shop Pay 2 Enjoy.

I think the same thing is going to happen with ESO players will play it for a month or two if that then they will be like This game sucks, now I could be wrong but based on my Beta experience with the game the game is bad lacked all the content I would want to see in a 2014 MMO Release, and locked character classes rather than going sand-box based allowing players to develop their own unique race story line & play all classes on a single character.
Game directors don't pull the purse strings, accountants and executives do.
Never believe promises that can't be kept, there is actually a very good chance ESO will one day have an in game cash shop.
Only thing we can be reasonably sure of is there won't be one at launch.

Going to be nice ride without f2p p2win crowd ,while it lasts and i hope it will last long :>
So, did ESO have a successful launch? Yes, yes it did.By Ryan Getchell on April 02, 2014.
**On the radar: http://www.cyberpunk.net/ **
Their game director is responsible to the investors, and must meet their ROI expectations. No matter what any developer might WANT to do, they will monetize the sh*t ouf of TESO to try and reach that ROI target as quickly as possible.
Guess what? Investors don't care about the game being fun. They care about money. The fastest way to make money on an MMO is to establish a nice high box price ($60, or $100 for the collector's edition) AND have a subscription fee AND have a cash shop. We all know the drill. Subscribers will fall off on the 30/60/90/120 day cycles. Box prices will drop from $60 to $50 to $40. And between 6 months and a year out, when the recurring subscriptions dwindle, they'll shift things to a free-to-play model, ramping up the cash shop and breaking things up so stuff that used to be included with the subscription are now addon DLC's. Of course, your characters will get grandfather'd in, but if you stop subscribing you'll end up having to buy those new DLC packs to make new characters, etc, etc.
Nothing new here, except having the cash shop in place from Day 1.
you are forgeting that most people SOLD cash shop items on the market >>. i sold outfits that i knew people wanted and it was not overly priced as well. 8k for an outfit that cost around 9 bucks. ATLEAST tera made them trabeable. most mmos bind them once you but. and i dont see ESO going that way seeing how it has its OWN unique style that we have come to expect from an ES title.

Dark Age of Camelot
Absolutely true.
Doesn't worry me in the least though, I know I'll get at least 6 months of "full game access" for the low, low price of $15 per month
No way can any "F2P" game match that.
Hey now, I'd pay $5 for that in the cash shop.

"hurting" the game? Of course, the game is not released yet. The game WILL become F2P and that's when the cash shop will flourish.. i am a fan of TES series, but I won't forgive zenimax for the imperial edition deal
so before release, everything is peaches and cream, after release, the real plan goes into effect
I am not sure if you played ESO beta, but like almost all my guilds /clan members tried the game to be honest I played one Beta test, my character was wiped, reported every bug I found, and after that I didn't bother to play again the game is boring as hell I can compared ESO to Rift / Guild Wars 2, because that is what ESO feels like to me.
Sure its got different mechanics/classes and alliance system, but they didn't develop it properly the game needed to be designed around a sand-box based game where players are free to make their own choices, I let the developers know my feed-back there but of course chances of them changing all this before release of the game is almost unlikely, which is why im not buying ESO because I think the game is going to Fail, I think that a game like Star Citizen will be successful however.
Yes Tera might allow players to trade items, but I don't like cash shops at all, I like games where I can play a flat monthly fee, go see a barber-shop any time I want to change my appearance in a game and change it any time I please. When I play a game like Tera where I have to pay for a item just to change my appearance, or a game like Vindictus with so many restrictions even for a paying customer, or even Perfect Worlds games I don't even bother paying a dime after looking at their cash shop I take one look and say I am done with this game especially when it comes to PWI for example and the way they run their cash shop. Also I would rather have a Cash Shop, that allows me to buy the item and claim it for all my characters not a single character only, and not having to send items in mail to other characters on my account.
Another company similar to PWI is NCsoft I absolutely hate them Aion for example I could stand to play their game if they gave me a $15 flat rate unlimited item housing/customization, and allowed me to use the barber-shop in the game any time I please without paying $10 for a ticket I would subscribe to the game even pay $20 a month for the game + cash shop cosmetic items, but because of their Greed I am not interested in the game at all.
So when it comes down to it, I think ESO will start out as a Pay 2 Play game, but over time based on Beta, unless the developers change the actual game and make major changes before release or after release I think the initial sales of the game will be high, but after 30 days players I think will finally hit level cap and start to get bored of the game unless changes come to the game.
It will likely start out with adding cosmetic items for sale in the market, or expansion packs and such, and then after that it will likely go full F2P once the game fails or F2P up to a certain level or such.
I understand new MMO players might like ESO with the way it is, but as a 8+ year MMO player I absolutely tell you that in the last beta's I played ESO feels like every other MMO that I have played, and this is exactly why I think it will go F2P down the road.
I took a look on You-Tube at the Elder Scrolls, game-play videos, and I have played Skyrim, to me the game doesn't look or feel like those games it feels very tab-targeting, and class/alliance locked not something I like.
General opinion of people that played the latest beta tests disagrees with you... The PvE is immersive, the dungeons are challenging and fun and PvP rocks big time...
on top of that, it will be the first big MMO on the new consoles... DCUO never was a true MMO world experience, ( however it was kind of fun )

You think? I'll guarantee you it will start out as a P2P game. Based on my time in Beta, I completely disagree with your comments. I found the game fun, immersive, and deep enough to keep me playing for a long time. The only thing about the game that I didn't really experience that could ruin it for me is the economy. Keep the economy active and player driven and that will keep me occupied for a while by itself.

Opinions, predictions, and gloom, oh my!
There are a few hot ticket topics that will always bring in the usual suspects, no matter what the game. F2P vs subscription is one of them. I can't wait for the focus to shift a bit more to WildStar so the herd can trundle on over to their lawn and get off this one.
Unfortunately, it's a topic the haters love to pounce on. Might as well ask a mod to lock, as it is not going to go well.
Semantics really, they are selling the imperial upgrade, which gives you a horse, appearance gear and a race.
They are just saying 'no cash shop' to get the upfront sales, as soon as that's not enough for them they will milk whatever they can.
They already showed they are willing to strong-arm players into paying early / extra with the pre-order and Imperial stuff.
It is inevitable that games start losing subscribers 2-3 months after releasing. TESO will need to adapt to that at some point, as most games do. The company will need to find a way to make money or close up like WAR did. Cash shops whether you like them or not will be introduced at some point.
Only time will tell.
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Not really , 3 months after release there will be the console release... With major subscription growth.. The PC version is just a pre release..

DCUO launched on the consoles too, what's your point? The console launch will just add another cash injection to postpone the F2P conversion a little.
If anything console players will be less likely to subscribe since they already pay monthly fees for PS+ or XBL.
Targeting Kids and teenages on console with sub fee? LOL
you said Adult playing console too? i still LOL
and here some people think there will be great sell when the game go to console with sub fee
I think the general consensus is that this game will go free toplay and have a cash shop. Maybe not even mutually exclusive events. The only question will be when.
This game really doesnt have a lot going for it right now.
Bad performance. A lot of bugs (in just the areas we are allowed to see and 'test'), lack of end game 'content'. Crafting system that is pretty meaningless. No AH or economy. But with a lack of an in depth or restrictive crafting system and random loot that is almost a moot issue. No housing. No 'hook' or goals really to speak of.
It has PvP and once people get to see it for more than a few hours at a time that will be exposed as something not too great either.
No game is going to survive and get people to pay subs for a PvP system, no matter how great it might be (and ESO isnt great).
But that is also another issue with a cash shop. Without those 'little' things there isnt a lot they can actually sell.
Theyll be limited to cosmetic outfits and mounts for the bulk of their stock. While lucrative it doesnt touch on the stuff they can really squeeze people with. Housing items and size and lots are the most obvious. Crafting boosts is another. But with no housing and crafting being a little sucky those are a non factor.
But I love how the OP says its not for discussion but a matter of 'fact'. Yeah OK. considering all that stuff is about 6 months old makes it completely moot.
They put two of the most wanted things behind a pay wall and a pre order wall, that trumps months old contradicting statements in my book.
This guy has no idea wtf he is talking about for tera at least.. when the game had a sub.. there was no costume's.. There was nothing but a grind fest for pvp gear.. what was it a year after launch they decided to go f2p after they tried to do the whole chrono scrolls.. that didnt work.. and the game is far from pay to enjoy. they dumbed that game down soo hard that my 10 year old son could go ham on it..
Not defending tera.. b/c I no longer player it, after having 5 lvl 60's the game is just boring and I was playing since CBT..
