I am not playing any MMO right now,the genre is dead awful and not worth my time.I dont care how bored i get i wont be supporting rubbish.
The games i am playing are not exactly ground breaking or top notch efforts either but at least i dont have to spend any money. If i were to play anything,it would be role a new toon in FFXI but it is not the same game any more either so i would eventually get bored.
The problem with gaming as a form of entertainment is they are all just businesses their passion does not matter, they have to spend as little as possible and try to hype it up to make as much profit as possible.
If we went out and grabbed a bunch of friends and just had a football game we would have more passion and fun and not a single penny is involves..aside from beer and gas to get there lol.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Already bought the game? You have the entire game and can play without a subscription the way you are now but you may want to buy the DLC they make if it is something you like. Or continue to subscribe and get the same thing you are now plus the DLC and 500 in game crowns per month to spend on any cosmetics you may want.
...snip
Addressing this yellow section.
I thought they weren't mentioning the cost of anything until next week.
You might be jumping the gun getting certain that what they have given you is enough to afford a single item let alone multiples until they show some prices.
Ex.
When prices are released imagine they say each item in the shop costs 250
- this is true, including the (s) for multiple items - 500 in game crowns per month to spend on any cosmetics you may want
When prices are released imagine they say each item in the shop costs 520
- this is true, and no (s) for multiple items - 500 in game crowns per month to spend on any part of a cosmetic you may want after you purchase more currency to supplement the cost or save up two months to get a single item while others can pay to get theirs in a single month
I think they said you get a large chunk to start with if you were a long time sub so that will make the cash shop seem warm if you have been there the whole time but I thought they've already added 18 items in their cosmetic shop then there are the consumables like repair kit, potions, and soul gems I think it was. In my eyes, you are potentially waiting longer for those or tossing in money for items when a month ago they would have come with the flat price.
Someone mentioned too that if they are giving you money monthly that was an indicator that they'll monthly add items to the cash shop. That too sounds quite plausible. The cash shop can't be denied when everyone isn't mandated to pay a sub so you would be naive to think it won't become embellished as time passes. Are they going to make that "content" in the cash shop affordable within the stipend given to you monthly - I don't think anyone knows yet.
Even if you imagined that you got 3 free items a month with your stipend... just to get the 18 new items, you have to be subbed for 6 months and in that 6 months doesn't logic tell us they added more to the shop in that time. So yeah, the content is there if you will pay the sub price and more but because of the 18 on day one you are starting at a deficit, for certain and that doesn't count any consumables - excuse me - convenience items that come down the line or the originals :P Firor did openly say on the video that the cash shop would contain "cosmetics and convenience items" - what's your thought on what makes something convenient because this is where Webster goes with it.
: a quality or situation that makes something easy or useful for someone by reducing the amount of work or time required to do something
: a time that is appropriate for doing something or that is suitable for someone
: something (such as a device) that makes you more comfortable or allows you to do things more easily
Then wait another month to buy it? Cosmetics are not required to do anything in the game nor is anything else in the Crown Shop required.. Want that 999 crown robe skin? Wait another month to get it or buy another $5 of Crowns. It is YOUR choice to wait or go ahead and get it no one is forcing anyone.

So let me see, we supported the genre since Ultima Online, have supported it through tons of changes, and now that we are voicing our discontent with this you trash us and call US elitist?
Pretty much outlined the "elitist", one who thinks they are entitled because they given so much. What changes with the core game ? Why is allowing those who can't afford to pay a sub an option to have fun as well. IF you say "if they cant afford it , get a job" that also is extremely arrogant and elitist.
I'm not subbing for exactly that reason. I'm not handing over money to a company so that they can keep the server on for people who choose to not pay.
People are getting real tired of funding freeloaders. Yes, I mean IRL.
Why should people work their butts off to achieve their goals. Have a percentage taken from them so people that choose not to work hard can live next door, for free, on my money, stolen from me, in the name of "fairness".
Normally, I would pay the sub when there is an option. It's cheaper than F2P. However, I'm not supporting deadbeats. I do enough of that already (for now).
I hope they put Update 6 on the PTS before 14 days is over cause that's when my subscription runs out. I would still be subbed if they gave me 18,000 crowns.
Most of you guys are unsubbing not because they announced B2P,but because its no longer required to play. And that still doesnt hurt the company because they expected that when they switched gears. What they hope to reel in are new customers, which they will certainly get on ALL platforms now.

I can't believe people have the nerve to bring their freeloading children to restaurants on certain days so that kids three years and younger eat free. Also all those women that go to bars or clubs during ladies night to get free drinks. What a bunch of freeloaders! I would rather take my labor fruit to a different restaurant or bar to avoid those scum.

Ladies Night is to attract men with money to the bar (desperate men btw).
Kids Eat Free is there to attract paying parents that eat more then 3 chicken nuggets and a small soda (gimmicks of a failing business).
Neither of them, I would bother with. I can't even remember the last time I ate at a restaurant where there were kids or bought a drink for a unfamiliar woman (I'm respecting womens equality).
But, you're trying to sarcastically claim that people paying subs flock to games because they are attracted to the freeloaders waiting on them? That's obsurd.
If the game was only worth paying $15/month so that you could feel "holier than thou" for only playing subscription games, then I find that an odd reason to play any game.
If you want to pay, they will be offering you the option to do so, so you can still feel superior to the Buy to Play "scrubs". (BTW, kudos that it is B2P, not F2P, some barrier to entry IS better than none when it comes to community).
As far as the Cash Shop, they can be benevolent or malevolent. Whether or not one likes TERA Rising, they did it right. No power to be bought there, just cosmetics and convenience. That kind of cash shop should mean nothing to a subscription player that hates cash shops. The further from a truly benevolent model the store strays, the more justifiable the ire of a subscriber will be over the change in business model.
Until we know what the cash shop will look like, only those who need to pay for a Subscription only game in order to feel "superior" are effected by the announcement. All other current players just need to keep their finger's crossed for a benevolent cash shop and a commitment to maintain Buy to Play vs. F2P.
For those who passed on the game while it was subscription based, knowing this day would come, the nature of the cash shop will determine whether the game is worth revisiting or not. For both "classes" of customers, rational, informed decisions can't be made until those details are known and commitments over "lines that will not be crossed" are made by the developers.

You do realize that the small amount of income from the sub option is what will keep the servers on, right?
Profits from cash shops will not go into growing the game.
It's not about being superior, it's about being sick and tired of supporting deadbeats and cheapskates. Also, it's not fun to play with F2P players. They are always undergeared. Nobody wants to spend time or resources helping them because as soon as they hit they pay wall, they leave for another host to leech off of.
So ESO has the same model as GW2. How well is that game doing these days?
So ESO has the same model as GW2. How well is that game doing these days?
GW2 actually made over 300 million in 2013 and like 200 million in 2014.
With constant content updates since release.
Whether the content appeals to you personally is subjective but the amount can't be denied.
It shows what PvP games are really all about, and no, it's not about more realism and immersion. It's about cowards hiding behind a screen to they can bully other defenseless players without any risk of direct retaliation like there would be if they acted like asshats in "real life". -Jean-Luc_Picard

Do you really recognize small patches (Living Stories) as a content? The biggest GW2 issue is lack of content updates. There is still no expansion announced after all those years.

As I said in another thread: it is not that simple. Do you use a search engine? We used to have to pay for them - huge server architecture to support after all.
What? You use a free search engine. That would make you - by your definition ......
It isn't that simple. And what has been announced looks a mess.
My worries are twofold.
All a subscription offers - certainly at the start - is 500 crowns; and what tends to happen is that fluff gets put in a cash shop for people to spend their crowns i.e. a sub will be directly supporting cash shop fluff.
In 12 months time or whatever this option will allow "subscription freeloader" to come in, play all the content for 30 days, and then leave. Again: the sub option supports what you call freeloading.
As I said things are not black and white but I feel we should "prod" developers when we can to focus on content. If you really feel you need 500 crowns (I don't see anyone needing the 10% bumps) then buy them. And later buy the content - which you can then play forever.
As long as ZOS keeps doing content updates along with DLC then the game will flourish. They say they will and after the big work they have put in until now I will give them the benefit of that and say I believe them.
I won't cancel my sub until I decide that the shop has nothing I want. Currently I want to redo the looks of my main. Hopefully they have that.
I'm currently satisfied with the armor aesthetics already in game so unless they offer something that is lore appropriate for my dark elf and that looks amazing, I'll hold off on that.
If they come out with a mount that has barding on it then I would definitely get that (or, just come out with barding).
Other than that, if the shop doesn't offer a lot of interest then I'll cancel the sub and just pay for the DLC as I want.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
The worst part of any Free to play or buy to play system is the lack of static playerbase. People will come and go. Sub models have this as well but they mostly go and dont return.
At least with DLC content people will come back when it releases (perfect world scenario). Its the same general idea with other games that get an uptick with updates and expansions.
There just arent any 'destination' (games that people invest a majority of their gaming time to) these days. Mostly because theyre not worth it and the recent ones that had a chance to be destination games failed to deliver all they needed to to maintain the draw.
People want a Sim like world where they feel they actually live in it. Many games have promised it but none have delivered it yet.
ESO has the fanbase, the story lines and the potential to be a game that willl last.
The greatest equalizer with them is they have a console version. That cant be under estimated and more than likely the console money will more than be able to subsidize the PC version.

As I said in another thread: it is not that simple. Do you use a search engine? We used to have to pay for them - huge server architecture to support after all.

Like I said my wife doesn't pay, so who exactly missed the context here? I said she may not pay but she contributes by bringing in folks like myself and our roommate who do. IF she didn't play it we wouldn't be.

Obviously, if you were willing to cancel you couldn't have been having much fun anyway. The game isn't any less fun since they announced it.
This is like getting rid of your car because Ford announced they're gonna start selling it cheaper in a couple months or changing the name.
