Sorry, people are kinda hanging on the word fired. I was merely using that to illustrate the potential for bad will of former disgruntled employees. I will strive to be clearer in the future.
We'll let it go this time.... Don't let it happen again or I'll have to lol you
After years in management I am certain some of the people I had to fire would swear I was a demon. Nothing they ever did was grounds for termination. It was always everyone else, me, the phase of the moon, etc.
The people who worked hard, understood what being part of a team meant, etc have little to no bad to say.
I expect this probably applies to most companies work forces.
You must have missed it but not all were fired, some used their feet and walked. Doesn't that give them any credibility?
Anonymously no, you could be full of shit with an axe to grind.
Unless people are willing to go on record, it's nothing but a tabloid article.
The Escapist knows who they are and they have every right to have their identity's protected from any back lash from CR. If you read the article you should have seen the part about them knowing who the people are. Isn't it enough what CR has been doing to DS along with CR's cronies.
@Torval, well am trying to get it on Foxnews. Also am sure Obama will comment soon about it and invite CR to the WH along with that Muslim fake bomb maker kid err I mean clock maker.

Obama may not comment- BUT before this is over Fox news, CNN and the rest will; be a part of this-
edit- This is pretty big and will be worldwide news- Lots to come, stay tuned and HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leaving or fired really doesn't matter when the original article states it isn't just former employees, but also current ones.
Regardless of that seemingly grossly overlooked fact of the article, anonymity precludes real credibility until there's some kind of telling corroboration between the anonymous employees' statements and some new publicly released information from inside the company. CR and company would have to be silly to allow that to happen at this point.

You're too far gone on this topic to relay any common sense.
Everyone knows the media always prints the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
p.s. Chris Roberts... please... you and your cronies lay off of Derek Smart
Seems like our buddy Mr Smart continues with his usual antics. Anyone who has looked at his past history, *knows* what this is all about. I'm wondering where the money he is spending is coming from, because I seriously doubt he is spending his own. Thats never been his style for his antics.
Another blogger post with no substantiation behind the writing.
Isn't it curious real journalists haven't latched on to this? I mean a scam of nearly $100M would be a decent story yet all we get are gaming hacks and bloggers. You should note in that link that it points to the Forbes blog site not their news site. No respectable journalist has touched this thing period.
We have have a bunch of bandwagon gamers that want to see a project burn because they don't like how someone set it up. And then you have some hack sites that see ad revenue clicks in an inflammatory story.
Why the vendetta to tear it all down? Why not just let it ride until something actually happens.
They are letting ride and have been letting it ride for going on 4 years now. RSI/CiG has been donated 90 MILLION dollars to complete the project and as far as I can tell no one is raiding that 90 MILLION piggy bank. So let them continue working on the project despite any outside concern from the "disgruntled" few. Or is your suggestion one of having the opposition silenced or censored? If so, why the need to do such a thing if there is nothing wrong?
Again, all Chris Roberts has to do to make this all go away is provide a bit of transparency and accountability. Don't blame everyone else because he stubbornly refuses to do that. He has only himself to blame for this fiasco.

So far im not aware of DS having to spend much outside of using already retained Attorneys.
BUT- If this becomes a fight that starts involving large amounts ofmoney (which I doubt) we'll run a Kickstarter to fund legal costs.

Wow... plural
Derek must be a very wealthy man.
Attorney's are pretty costly. You think dev's are expensive, ha, you can hire half a dozen for one Attorney.
Interesting, but hardly a surprise. To quote the earlier linked article (here):
For months I’ve been concerned about Chris Roberts’ insanely ambitious space sim Star Citizen, with the alarm of red flags reaching a crescendo about the time that Cloud Imperium Games started charging $400 for a virtual spaceship to fly inside of an unfinished game. Or selling packages that cost an absurd $15,000.
If SC fails to deliver an approximation of its KS goals, the fallout will be interesting. It will be a very high profile (and IMO much needed) indictment on KS, which may facilitate greater accountability and a more robust legal framework for crowd funding.

Exactly right. But that is a best case scenario. The worst case scenario is that it will be change enacted to late ... for no one will give a damn. The harm hath been done. That is the real danger.

Of course the 'plural' is used very loosely- Just happen to be on the same side on this issue.
My allegiance is to getting to the truth and uncovering shady shit in the industry using crowdfunding. I would turn on DS in a second if he started a KS and was acting shady.
I HATE thieves and scammers and this new generation of digital scammers are the worst of the worst- At least a strongarm is personal .
irrelevant anyhow. Ive been after SC for a long time (and other shady crowdfunding projects) and i'm currently after just more than SC- Shine light into the darkness and all that. Without DS, we would be nowhere right now. Without employees (past and present) giving info, we would be nowhere right now. DS put everything on the line with his public name over this but there is alot of parts to these cogs and gears that are moving the entire machine.
Without major marketing firms, millions of dollars and such- This really is "grass roots".
I'm playing a very tiny, minuscule role- But I'm still part of the "we"- So is everyone fighting the adbots and trying to bring logic into this discussion against one of the first ever, marketed cults.'we' are many now.

Because there is no just cause for him to share his personal business with anyone. There is no requirement, and there should not be, that a private business or person have to justify or make their private dealings transparent. Why should they? Someone should have to prove a need for that first.
Eh, I would submit that playing with millions of dollars of people's money, given to you in good faith, is warrant enough for transparency.
But this is where we are with crowdfunding, such a double-edged sword. And if CR is really worried about the damage such claims could do to the project and company.. Isn't that need enough for him to provide just enough transparency to prove the claims false?

That would be the epitome of the definition of stubborn. To refuse to offer a bit of transparency and accountability, despite the fact he has been "given" a nearly 100 MILLION dollars, is the epitome of hard headed prima donna behavior. I'm sorry, if thats the best response one can give for him not offering a bit of transparency and accountability, as a show of appreciation for the tens of millions of dollars the public has entrusted on him, he deserves all the scorn that has come his way and there should be much more of it forthcoming.
He pretty much came out and said what I have been thinking for sometime, that SC can't be made with the current cash on hand didn't he? Unless they keep selling ships to keep the company running they won't be able to release the game as promised.
"This would be far more damaging to us than a normal developer or publisher. I know that this kind of material is great for clicks but you also have to remember that we are talking about the jobs of 261 people and numerous contractors"
This isn't in and of itself a bad thing or means that SC is going to fail but if the gravy train of ship sales dries up either because of all this press or for some other reason the whole project might fall apart or at best result in something much less than what has been sold being delivered. I find it interesting thinking about all these "concept" ships that where sold that have not been developed in game and wonder if there is a very real possibility of some of these items not making it into the game at launch?
If you can't complete a decent MMO with the $100,000,000.00 already raised, then that is colossal mismanagement.

Nope- And thats all irrelevant anyhow.
I keep hearing that its okay for devs to do whatever they want with the money and 'fuck you it was a gift'
Well, its legal to look into crowdfunding projects with a bit of subterfuge, find out if something really looks amiss and then try to garner more information and (if possible) get it to the public.
My reasons dont matter. When I see something that smells like shit laying on my clean kitchen floor. I try to clean it up.
Just explaining the 'we' and why I consider myself part of the 'we'.
I KNOW without doubt- Or I wouldnt waste my time. Also, not going the play 'how do you know"...and..."prove it"... because its being proven . Slowly but surely. Sticking your head in the and will not change that fact and anyone on the fence right now can clearly see that something is amiss.

Logic has very little to do with the mob mentality.

So where do we draw the line? How much money is too much? Who gets to decide what projects are investigated and what they have to make public to their competition? Who gets to sit in judgement? Who is paying for that oversight?
Why are large money crowd funded projects more subject to arbitrary scrutiny than established businesses? We have game companies like Blizzard raking in billions gouging customers for hundreds of dollars in annual rental fees and returning very little. Is that any less predatory? Why aren't they subject to scrutiny and regulation for fair business practices?
Why are non-crowd funded private business that have big money private investors given the edge over crowd funded projects that are expected to make their entire business strategy public. Doesn't it seem reasonable that competitors, Derek Smart among them, wouldn't like to know how and what that competition is doing?
Saying they should be transparent because a lot of money is involved sounds very reasonable and fair at first, but there are a lot of questions because it's complicated. No one wants to deal with the complex so we go for the simple answers - they should be transparent.
Who said smaller projects are above scrutiny?
Nobody is-
However, thats not justification for wrongdoing or conflicts of interest or being a fool with other peoples money. This one just happens to have created a huge public presence for itself which now means the weight they have is working to topple the whole thing faster and more surely.
Because there is no just cause for him to share his personal business with anyone. There is no requirement, and there should not be, that a private business or person have to justify or make their private dealings transparent. Why should they? Someone should have to prove a need for that first.

I think that's where personal ethics comes in. I own a business and I have a company gas card, I buy gas for personal use. I fill up my Harley and go on road trips, I use it to fill up my ATV's and SxS's By the books I'm cheating the taxman. I have no problem with it, it's my private company, I made the money myself, it's a little tax free benefit.
Now if my company was funded by crowdfunding I definitely would have a problem doing the same thing. I'd be spending other people's money for personal use.
There is a difference and there are new lines that have to be drawn when it comes to crowdfunding.
I keep hearing that its okay for devs to do whatever they want with the money and 'fuck you it was a gift'

Not at all-
man, I dont want to get off topic here- I'm the 'King' of mistakes, bro. I am totally capable of being wrong and often find myself wrong. I'm wrong so much it hurts lol.
But heres the thing- I learn I am wrong at some point and move on. I dont hold onto my theory or what i believe to be fact once new information comes forth that shows me the error in my thinking.
I am hoping I am wrong every single day. But every single day nothing is coming forth that changes my opinion- In fact my opinion is strengthened all the time. At this point I KNOW i'm right on this issue.
Now- That doesnt mean I dont think SC is going to kick out a 'game'. Unlike many on my 'side' I dont think we'll have lawsuits (we're not a hivemind...) because I think CR knows that 'something wicked this way comes' if he doesnt cobble some buggy ass shit together and call it a day or offload the company somehow. There are many unknowns and 'what ifs'but there are also some pretty major certainties as well.
Sorry to off topic- I dont WANT to go off topic and im helping the whole 'redirect the conversation' tactic lol
