" As we announced during the 2015 Holiday livestream, as of January 1st we are updating the RSI
site’s Euro exchange rate. For the next five days (through December
28th) we are unlocking the previous ‘Weapons Free!’ sale to give
everyone one last change to pick up limited ships and packages at the
old rate. We hope this helps you pick up the ship of your dreams as we
continue to build the ‘verse!"
Another last chance (' change' lol) to pick up those packages! Get them while you still can! There is only a limited supply of these ones and zeros!
But seriously, when I saw this page (including the 'in stock' below the ships), I thought it was a joke at first. These tactics to make people 'donate' to the production of the game are getting ridiculous. And the 'old rate' ? What does that even mean, it will become even more expensive?
Even if this game will eventually shape up to become most the impressive expansive virtual galaxy ever, I still expect it will be basically rl cash for items. With the worst f2p grind (hardcore gameplay lol) as alternative. Meanwhile having no chance against people who just put down big bucks to buy their ships.
But impressive idea (not the game, but how he rakes in the money) nevertheless by that Roberts dude though.
umm its been said the ship sales will stop once it goes live
The difference is: i call my assumption "my guess". You present YOUR assumptions as facts. Which they are not. They are simply one of many opinions.
Have fun
Or perhaps you're just struggling to read what I wrote due to not liking the implications. Here's a few examples "logical conclusion based on information available at this time", "reasonable assumption", "my assumptions (based on available facts)" etc. None of those are stated as definitive facts, they all contain clear caveats.
It is perfectly logical to take 1+2 and assume it equals 3. You want to argue that at some point in the future 2 may not be 2 at all. That is illogical because there is no information implying this may be the case.

You managed to completely miss the point of this sale mate. As it is stated its the last chance to buy at the current exchange rate, so far they haven't updated the rates so it was cheaper to buy something in € than in $ even with the added VAT, because the homepage used at least a year old rates. Also there will be some changes in the pack, SQ42 will be removed from the starter pack as it is closer to release, so thats a last chance for those too.
You do not have to spend more money than 54 $, despite what some others try to suggest (e.g. see OP post).
If you like ... get your 54 $ Mustang Star Citizen starter package and get ALL the rest of the ships and equipment in game for in game money only after launch day.
That includes Alpha Testing access, Beta access, The Squadron 42 solo game and the Persistent Universe Multiplayer Game. You can test a lot of other ships than the one you pledge for during the frequent free-fly-and-test weeks, as they become available during Alpha testing. At the moment more than two dozen ships are available and the number is growing fast.
During the Holidays they offer(ed) 36 $ instead of 54 $ starter packages. It was as low as 20$ last year.
See you in the 'Verse and Have fun
While you don't have to spend, the fact is any game that offers major ships for hundreds of dollars before a game is even made is a joke and will always be a joke. I showed a friend their website with all the ships for hundreds of dollars and he laughed and said well I won't be buying the game. I nodded because I feel the same. Real world money should not buy you better ships when the ships are hundreds of dollars. Then you factor in the fact that the other way will be a hellish grind(don't kid yourself they want you to spend the real world money on the ships) and I'm not bothering even if the game ever releases it's a giant scam just by the pricing model. But continue with your its us vs them, and we all just hate the game to hate it. NO I hate the shady business practices of a shady company run by a shady man.
Edit/
I don't see the marketing campaign as much different than a lot of the publishers offering up Season passes for future content (Y-you don't hate Witcher 3, do you?), or Early access alpha survival games selling entry to play the Alpha.
The main difference is an optional pledge level, and that they are developing content in circles around most Early access survival games currently in development. Your priorities should be straight. What is a pledger's priority? To buy the biggest ship they can afford so they can have a big ship at launch? The intent of the pledge system is to FUND development, and the ship provided to the amount you pledged is a bonus to your support to the games development.
You know RSI didn't have to offer any content what-so-ever to pledgers, but just like plasma donation, most people would like a cookie and a mug as thanks after they finish. It targets human nature perfectly, and the game wouldn't be as far along as it is today without what they did. No other community backed game has gone this far, so RSI at the very least is inadvertently pioneering new ideas about what is achievable in the gaming industry; In feasibility from a marketing stand-point, what can be done without publishers, and whether growing startup companies like RSI can faithfully stick to self-imposed deadlines without becoming complacent within the development cycle.
Even if you see it as a shill factory, there's no evidence that RSI is hurting the gaming industry, and I think in the future it will be shown that it only helps the gaming industry by allowing for less restraint in development, and overall a higher quality breed of games to be developed. Personally, I'd love for broken releases like the mess that was Battlefield 4 to go extinct. You didn't have to pledge for battlefield 4, but you were able to pre-order far in advance, and yet the release wasn't even worthy of being called an Alpha, let alone a released title. The publishers LIED to the investors about the state of the game, and also LIED to everyone who pre-ordered. Then they got sued big time from the corporate level.

The reason they've raised 103mil is because they sell ships.

You can't seem to tell the difference between a pledge and a sale.
A pledge is an exchange of promises that someone will or will not do something with what you provide. RSI promises they will develop a game with funding, and they also promise to provide you a ship at the targeted amount of money you provide them.
Whether or not there is tangible or intangible provisions provided within the agreement is of no relevance to whether it is still a pledge or not.

So they are desperately trying to pressure people into pledging NOW, and not wait for the actual game.
Yeah, I am sure they have NO money issues WHAT SO EVER...

Lol nope nope nope, logic fail. The reason they have 103m is because people want to play their game. Consider yourself educated.

True enough for most backers I'd presume, but there is a smaller segment of the community that's gotten into early ship collection. Just because.

Yeah, that's why there's dozens of threads on every sale of people complaining they didn't have enough time to buy the ship they wanted. Or people in general talking about what ship to buy next time to add to their collection. Or people with 1.500 dollars in the game talking about how "few" ships they have, etc etc
Star Citizen has a culture of buying ships. It's funny you haven't noticed it. It's even funnier you imply that they would have raised this amount without selling ships :proud:
In an old comment Roberts said 60 something percent of backers only own a starter ship. For simplicity I'm using a 2/3rds, 1/3rd split.
There are ~850,000 ships in the UEE Fleet. If 2/3rds of them belong to people who have only bought a single $45 starter ship, that gives ~550,000 backers who have raised ~$24.5 million between them.
Which leaves a nutty ~$78.5 million raised from 300,000 ships, average value of each ship ~$260.
Assuming that the more "dedicated" backer has on average 5 ships each , that's 60,000 actual backers with an average of $1300 spent. Guesstimated total number of backers ~610,000.
--- Clearly a very rough guess but a sensible one based on acceptable averages. It's a shame that CIG aren't a bit more honest and a bit more open with their data.
