They are now. Just take a look at the game list here. If world of tank is a MMOTPS, other multiplayer games can be too.
We are not talking about now. We are talking about 1998-2003 time frame when the first tier of mmos launched.
We are talking whether people like tab-targetting ... and who cares what people like in 1998-2003? There is no action MMO to compete with tab targetting then.
Personally, I prefer tab targetting games if I know I'll be playing them for long durations, such as grinding or doing long raids etc. However, I fought the combat in B&S to be fairly easy to deal with for long durations in comparison to other action mmo titles (the actual game aside).

It's obvious you didn't read the discussion at all. If you did you'd understand the context of what is being said. But why am I not surprised.
I think there is a stigma growing where people believe the only skill worth mentioning is twitch skill, which certainly is considerable, but there are many other skills involved in competitive gaming.
Strategy and decision making, and group coordination are just as important and in some cases just as difficult.
I find tab targeting to still be very fun if done right. And "if done right" still takes considerable skill. But, I also like other forms of combat just as much.

Why bother?
You CHOOSE how long to play. If action combat is more fun, why settle for something less? You can simply play shorter sessions (and more of them).
