If you have a regular game and it gets blockchain. It's no longer a regular game it's now a blockchain game. Blockchain takes over and is the focus of the game. Look at this article, it isn't about the cool new space game, it's about the blockchain. It permeates the entire game.
This is the most P2W BS I have ever seen. I don't think you could come up with a more invasive P2W system. Like an invasive organism that negatively affects it's environment.
It isn't about a 100% secure trading system that you can't dupe. It's all about the money.
If you're fine with Pay 2 Win and RMT I'm sure this is great news.
I think we're where we are because "blockchain" is new. It's like saying, every game coming out that is now "cloud native" has to talk about how it's "cloud native" or any game that wants to do a "metaverse" has to talk about how it's a "metaverse".
But blockchain games don't have to inherently sell you anything that's different than any other kind of game, just the features that come along with being a blockchain game are worth noting.
It doesn't make it more pay 2 win over anything else. I don't see how it could. Yeah maybe there's situations where blockchain games are pay to win, but right now, for every one blcokchain game you could name that is 'pay 2 win' I could name five "normal" games that are pay 2 win.
RMT is something entirely different, but still prevalent. Trying to shoehorn blockchain as a pay 2 win mechanic is extremely premature when the industry is rampant with far more games with predatory practices than what few blockchain games are in development.
I do see the invasive argument, these games are meant to trade with games in the same stable and they all will eventually trade with any other game with a blockchain. So this won't effect just MMOs.
But I don't see a tide of games switching to blockchain, that won't be like the way nearly every MMO switched to F2P because it just is not as easy to do. But some will go down that route.

I don't think it works that way. You can't bring an item into a game that isn't built to house that game. Like I can't transfer an NFT ship from infinite fleet into.. like.. blankos block party or something.
It would be like if infinite fleet came out with a game called infinite settlement. Like an mmo rts where you build settlements and stuff, and you can migrate your ships from infinite fleet to their other game as a unit.
Interoperability would be required for nft's to transfer and be usable in different games, so for the foreseeable future all items created like this might be usable in other games within a particular developers series of games, but not outside of it.
Maybe one day there will be a "real" metaverse, but games aren't standardized and use a lot of different engines so I really don't know how asset interoperability could work in the short term.

The idea I was getting at is cc in one game could be used with an "exchange rate" to buy items in another, I realise that is going to take time, they may not all want to open up like that. But that must be the direction of travel as it fits the whole marketing ethos of the games.

Hmm, that's an interesting take. So you're thinking like a trading system between games? I'm trying to understand.
Like I could trade an item from one game with an item from another? That's not really something I've really thought about but that's a cool idea if that's what you're saying. Like I could trade my infinite fleet ship for a set of nft armor in ember sword? Or you're talking about swapping to a currency and then buying something else with currency.

Some of the videos I saw actually said you will be able to use your cc from one game to "directly buy cool stuff" in another. But then they also said most of the things Bcbully did in his 'MMO innovations list' and there is no sight of those as yet.

While it would certainly be possible to trade items in one game for some external currency that can be used to buy items in another game, that's also possible without blockchain. The intermediate currency could be the US Dollar. Or the Euro or Yen or Ruble or Rupee or whatever other currency you want.
