I don't think its too bad, 5 hours a day is more than enough and it forces people to do other things rather than one activity.

I dont like the idea if you want to play then that is your choice when did government have to do with when you play your game thats a horrible idea.If you want to play more then 5hours or even 5 its your choice this stuff just makes me feel sorry for them having people step in thier personal lives and hobbyies like that.

Every game server probably has a timer and when the 5th hour hits you're disconnected. You can expect subscription rates to soar as people will get 2 or 3 more accounts and sign up under their dogs name ::::36::

Seriously tho with a gov't like theirs you can expect anything to happen

why not just a a strict gaming time, like 3-4pm to 8-9pm , rather than how long each player is online? then no one falls behind in grinding? i expect alot of chinese will just buy 2 accounts and just play on the other account when they've reached their time limit.

That is serioulsy messed up image.

I dont get to do it very often but I love those Saturdays or Sundays when chance hits, the boyfriend is out of my hair, no plans with friends have been made, school work is all caught up and I don't have a single work shift until the next day, yay it's a play day !!! I can't even imagine what it would be like having a game tell me that even though I pay for it, it's going to restrict me regardless of how often I play.

I would totaly understand if this was for players under the age of 18, or maybe even 21 but as adults these people have the right to choose how they spend their time, what they spend their money on and how much or how little to get to do of both. Of course so long as it's legal.

5 Hours a day is more than enough. If you consider 5 hours a day not enough then id strongly recommend that you take a hard long look at yourself. There is more to life than games.

afraid not. in fact, this will bring us more money farmers. the article says that its the company's responsibility. wich means, it will be server side. so what will happen? people will connect to other servers (for example, the usa servers) and play there, where there is no such rule as limited play time. farmers who where farming on chinese servers will have more difficulty farming on chinese servers, and will now come to the USA/european/etc servers to farm there, because there is no time limit. we will have much more problem dealing with farmers now because of this new law.

Good we will have less farmers.

This is amazing... A gross invasion of privacy and an absurd regulation. What is with some of you, "Five hours is long enough"? Way to miss the point. Yes, five hours is a fair bit of time. But since when was it any government's responsibility to monitor that? Its an arbitrary fiat from a dictatorship. Lets also remember that China is the nation trying to censor the flow of information across the internet.

Yeah if your mother/father says that five hours is long enough, then you should listen to them. But your government?

Well, in china they are trying to legislate to prevent violence as they have had incidents where people get killed over online video games. That's what you get with communism, the government not only thinks they know what is best for you but is allowed to get away with it. So for all you chinese gamers out there.....

Shrug, its China, communist country. Things like this you have to expect. I guess in the bigger picture it might be better for a nation to get more people out and about doing usefull, industrious things. But its cost to freedom is too high.

Every good thing about China and any doubt in my mind that their standard of living might not be so bad just flew out the window when I heard about this... Sorry, people of China!

Not that I play more than 5 hours a day except very rarely, that is. Not that there's anything wrong with that ::::35::

The new system will impose penalties on players who spend more than three hours playing a game by reducing the abilities of their characters.

Gamers who spend more than five hours will have the abilities of their in-game character severely limited.

Players will be forced to take a five-hour break before they can return to a game.

I think you guys are getting a little confused, I think the max time you can play is 3 hours and if you get up to 5 play time then your toon gets gimped and you can't play again for 5 hours

So 3 hours of play, 5 hours of whatever rince and repeat.

Oh well, I live in the USA, so it dosen't affect me.

MMOGs are probably the first form of expression your average Chinese person has ever had access to. No wonder they spend too much time playing...

    LOL.

And what does the government offer for peoples who log off?  If you make peoples log off after 3 hours, then you are taking the responsability for them not making fun anymore...

This could become an interesting debate.

The responses in no way surprised me, except for the fact that some people pointed out that it was a communist government and the individual has no freedom.( figured noone would)
Todays youth are left in the dark about many important aspects on the last century, many events that have formed the world in which we live. Here are some links to understand communism as it is applied by the few countries that still embrace its "principles." (Marxism is something completely different, socialist/communist nations have defaced the purity and ethically sound ideals from the original manifesto.)

    newer information:

What does irritate me is the fact that so many people have these strong opinions with no information about anything pertaining to it. Learn about China, its not like Canada, United States, Mexico, England or any FREE country.

When I was young, I first learned about millions dying because of the leaders lack of any kind of human feelings or emotions. Never forget your history, its where you came from. And history doesn't just pertain to your street, neighborhood, city, state, country, hemisphere, but your entire world. Everything that happens in our lifetimes will be part of our childrens lives as well...

EDIT: Before someone responds with an arguement, yes I have spent time in China.

For once copeland, I totally agree with you. China's government is a communism, the government can do whatever the hell it wants wether the people like it or not. But any more of these limits and china might just erupt in riots!

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
