Merely restricting access to the object of the addiction is futile as it does not fight the problems that generated the addiction.

This may be true in some cases, but certainly not all. People with good families, jobs, upbringings and no abusive influences can become addicted to substances. Ciggarettes, cocaine and heroin, to name a few, are addictive substances that are proven to cause addiction in the people that use them. Whether or not they have underlying psycholgical, environmental or family problems are just additional factors which may make the addiction more difficult to secede.

I don't agree with the censorship or limitation of someones gaming hours, but I just had to interject on the subject of addiction as a whole. No coke, no cokehead.

Everything is cheaper in China therefor huge numbers of western companies move their factories there. China is starting to get really big in the car industry. Companies like VW have already opened factories there. Yes, not everything is good there. The weak people in the society don't benefit of the development the country goes through, but that isn't different in other countries either. People have right cut in, but I think they will have to give those rights soon if the country is going to take the last step to a superpower. But they have done some good things too, like the birth control. Something all countries with a to high birthrate should do. The earth is allready overpopulated and still to many kids are born. We are on the brink of a big catastrophy. You americans have a tendecy to just judge other countries after yourself without considering their position. Not american = bad that is how you think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_IndexRegarding the mmo lockout after 3 hours playing. I think it's just a way to try to control a situation that is starting to get out of hand. Very high amounts of people have to be threated against this addiction in China. They even have their own clinics for it. And it's not very unusual. All goverments try to control drug, alcohol addiction with laws and taxes. I don't think it will take long before other countries have to start with this too.

Supporting your country and having faith in it are bad things? Thinking you are the best at things is bad? The UN means exactly what to me? The US does not need the UN. I for one, do not want a global government. People bitch and cry about the things that the US does, it helps everyone out in the world but makes people upset because it isn't done "thier" way.
If it wasn't for the US interviening in many ways the world would be completely different. The flaws we have here are based on individual freedoms being allowed. We have alcoholism because we allow people to be that way is they so choose, its called freedom. Not everyone will make the right decisions, but it is thier own.

For one way the world would be different: the World Wars would have gone a different direction. France wouldn't be there at all and Hitler would rule most of Europe. Sure the US would have defended its shores, but we sent thousands of OUR soldiers to war to help the WORLD. We support globalization and we help many countries with aid, medicines, military support, etc.

And China isn't that bad? Hear of Tiawan? Do you even know anything about the situation that has been goin on over there?
The reason they are moving to the ways of the "capatilist pig" is because they are drowning in thier own convoluted drivel.

I would hope that Canadians would think that thier country is #1, as would anyone that fully supports thier country. This is not bad, just like when people think that thier game is #1 and nothing can beat it here on these boards. Everyone has differences of opinions, just learn more before you spout more propaganda.

So what about the last election?  Most Americans didn't want to see a transfer of power during the middle of a war, I know I didn't...  I don't care for Bush's social policies, but I voted for him because we haven't seen another 9/11 since the war on Terrorism, and that impresses me...  You see, with such rampid anti-American sentiment out there, we honestly need a whacky little Texan to help defend us from the America haters...  Not easy being American these days...  No offense, but wtf has Norway done in the name of freeing coutries, helping decide victories with WWI and WWII?  Do you really feel you are justified to question America's worth when you have nothing to say about Norway's involvement in anything on a global scale for that matter?  Also, how racially diverse is your country?  Who can attain citizenship and who cannot?  Do you have minority owned business plans supported by your federal government?  Do you have women and minorities at the very top positions in your government?  Does Norway even contribute half of what America does to foreign aid?  Where was Norway after the great tsunami?  I didn't see any dramatic pledges being made by your country...  Please, help me to understand why you from Norway are in any legitimate or substantial position to question my country and what it does...

During WWII, Norway got anal-bashed by Germany and its Nazi leadership. Their "resistance" proved dramatically useless. Were liberated by Allies. Have done nothing worthwhile since.

Norway hasn't done anything to contribute to worldwide affairs. And as the above poster said, we do need a crazy Texan to battle these cunning, cutthroat assailants to our country. From Massachusetts I am, and I thought Kerry was a PR stunt. Comparing Tiannamen Square (a peaceful vigil by college students for more freedom) and Waco (which turned bloody by a fire started by the inhabitants) is quite... low. And entirely wrong.

China has moved a little bit away from socialism out of practicality.  Total government control just doesn't work very well.  And they saw what happened to the Soviet Union and probably realized they were heading down the same path.

For anyone who doesn't know the difference between socialism and communism I'll try to sum it up as simply as possible.

    Communism--everyone owns everything equally.

    Socialism--the government owns everything.

You can't have communism unless you force people to play by the communist rules.  To force them to do this you have to have an authoritarian government.  So any country that tries to be communist ends up being a non-democratic, socialist regime.

The thing that amazes me after all these years (I grew up when the cold war was still going).  After seeing all the rottenness of socialist dictatorships.....is that there are still people in the United States who advocate socialism for our country.

They are mostly well meaning people filled with pie-in-the-sky dreams of a government run paradise.  Too blind to see that giving the government that much power could never produce a paradise.  Many  of them aren't even consciously pushing for all out socialism but are unwittingly working towards that end by trying to push us into socialist policies a little bit here...a little bit there.

Maybe this news from China will make some of you younger folks appreciate the freedoms you have in the U.S.A. and make you less willing to think that governments should be allowed so much control over peoples lives....even if it's supposedly for their own good.

Norway is one of the countries in the world that gives most to poor countries and to catastrophies. It is one of the richest country in the world after all. We have done much on the global scale. Trying to solve conflicts peacefully. Sri Lanka is one of the countries where Norway tries to resolve the civil war peacefully. But you have to remember we are a country with 4,5 millin people, we are tiny compared towards USA. We can't solve a world war. But we have done alot for our size. We have had a female prime minister (She later became head of WHO) we have alot of female politicians, in USA females can't even become a President. Black people don't have a chance to become the President. Infact the only people that can become a President are old white christian men. Not a good combination for politics.

You are clearly one of the people I targeted with my text. You see it as your task to "free" all other people. What right do you have to decide that they need to be freed.
USA has done some good things earlier, but I don't like what USA has done lately after 1950 and now, in the name of freedom and against terrorism. Irac was wrong and is a disaster, 1600+ dead soldiers now and still counting. You wen't there on a lie. We haven't seen another 9/11 since war on terrorism is wrong too. There are more terrorist attacks than ever in the world. Not on your soil but they still are there. Just that people don't die on you soil doesn't make it succesful.

So because Norway has killed a couple of hundred thousand people, bombed civilians and children to oblivion in the name of freedom, I can't say that things like that is wrong? Norway was occupied during ww2, norwegians sat in the concentration camps, norwegians fought on Dday. We have had the most peaceful independence in human history. You still think we don't have the right to speak out about war and peace?

I second Anarchy's praise of your post, well thought out, you know your stuff caveman...  Also, 'Communism' as Marx and Engels wrote of in the Manifesto (which BTW is still the most distributed book of all time, even beating out the bible) is very different than anything that has ever been realized in our times...  The only person who cane close was Lenin, and he tragically died and Russia went down the tyrranical course of dictatorship led by Uncle Joe...  Communism requires that not only the people give up their wordly posessions in the name of a greater good, but that the government does too, and so far no government has been able to resist the spoils of being at the top of a government...  Fidel Castro gladly moved into the presidential palace in Havana, and while he may still spout off his revolutionary rhetoric, Cuba is still a shit hole, and Castro lives like a king...

In the end, communism is a great idea, and only that...  Long live Che Guevara!!!!!

You are right about 'white christian' men so far only being presidents, but even then we have had some pretty open-minded and culturally aware presidents, like Bill Clinton, the guy played a saxophone on the Arsenio Hall show...  We will have a women president soon, most likely in 2008...  A black president will follow soon, again, America will be the first to do so...  You honestly think black people have a shot at being president in Norway?  Also, you are surprisingly quiet on the issue of citizenship, Norway only for Norwegians?  I thought so...
You are clearly one of the people I targeted with my text. You see it as your task to "free" all other people. What right do you have to decide that they need to be freed.

I will gladly watch people die in other countries rather than here, in fact I think that was the point...  Don't cry me a river about 1600+ people having died, that isn't even half of the people who died in 9/11...  I would much rather see people die in other countries than here, that may be selfish, but so what, we don't deserve to have innocent Americans killed here on our soil...  Saddam Hussein was indeed the next Hitler, we just didn't want to see another 'Munich' unfold where we catered to another ruthless dictator...  Would you rather have seen millions of Kurdish slaughtered off like the Holocaust?  It would have happened, in fact he was already planning it...  Saddam used chemical warfare on his own people, killing tens of thousands of Kurds...  This is one of his most serious charges he faces in fact...  Again, you need to do more research before you call Iraq*  (notice spelling) based on a lie...
So because Norway has killed a couple of hundred thousand people, bombed civilians and children to oblivion in the name of freedom, I can't say that things like that is wrong? You have the right to speak out in anything you believe, it is a value we hold very dearly here, just ask the ACLU who safeguards this in every case...  What you do NOT have the right to do is stroll into an argument generalizing what we Americans think and say on an AMERICAN WEBSITE...  Your comments are aimed at inflaming people on the stereotypical worldly anti-American garbage that we hear every damn day...  *Newsflash* - The World is Better off with America!!!  Here are some examples:
    America cured Polio
    America invented the computer
    America invented the Internet
America invented automation with business: cotton gin and the assembly line
    America invented the car
    America invented electricity
America stopped WWI and WWII on the western front
America successfully won the Cold War, something which you should thank us for now that Russia isn't a threatening neighbor to have anymore
    America introduced free trade agreements
America single handedly created the textile industry
    America invented the cell phone
    America invented the regular phone
    America invented the phonograph
I will stop here, but you get my point...  Funny thing is, I am usually rather embarassed to be American since I am a registered independent and hold no loyalty to either political parties...  We are trapped in a two party political system, and I despise it...  But, with all of her wrongs, America has lifted the world to new heights, and she has always welcomed other cultures...  This is our strength:  DIVERSITY...  Norway doesn't even hold a candle to us in this regard...
Still waiting on your citizenship reply, btw, what is the percentage of minorities in your country?

The average hardcore gamer will be able to play 5 hours easily and from what i know China has a big gaming industry of players their so basically China's gov't is making players find loop holes and make them try harder to play and the under 18 rule for PvP pissed me off enough although since this isnt my country im ok with it because i dont live their but my uncle does and he is a gamer and he said it doesnt effect him or like anyone where he lives apparently China only hit certain cities? Well all i know is he plays as much as he wants and some of his Co-workers family say the 5 hour thing is not at all what the Gov't prolly wanted since most players probably dont listen to the rule or find ways of avoiding it,

I mean if ur sitting at home and sick what else u gonna do for 12 hours now come on::::24::

They have a chance yes. But has it ever happened? Will it happen in the near feature? No. Currently no black person is close to having a chance in running for precidency. Same with women. I'm 100% sure that no women or black person will enter the white house as a president in the next 20 years, and I'm sure most "political aware" people will tell you the same. It's not against the law that they can run for it, but practically they just can't make it.

    too Dis_Ordur:

First off all you won't be the first to have a black president or a female one. Allready happened and countless countries currently have it. Regarding gaining citizenship in Norway it is no problem, unless you are a war criminal or so. Take me for an example: I'm born in Germany and was a german citizen. Then we moved to Norway and after living here 10 years I was offered the opportunity to change my citizenship to the Norwegian. Each year we take up lot's of lot's of refugess from all over the world. If they really are in danger in their home country they will be given the Norwegian citizenship and a place to live.
The reason I was so quiet about it was that I take things like that for granted and it's just naturally that you get a citizenship. No big evil laws here. We got black and foreign politicians, we got departments that make sure that noone is threated bad because of ethinicity, color or gender. Infact there is a requirement that each company should have 50% women in their leadership.

The 1600+ are american soldiers who have fallen in Iraq. THe civilian losses are far greater than that. Far far greater. I said that Iraq was a lie because the US lied to the UN. You showed fake satelite photos of weapon factories. You "proved" chemical weapons by using bacteria from a cow that died in UK.
All know the reason was Oil. You are the biggest oil consuming nation in the world, but you don't really have your own supplies you have to buy them from other countries or take.

And there is that attitude again. "I don't care if people die" you are one of those people that make this earth a so much more evil place. There will never be peace if people think like that. Any lost humanlife is a great loss. No mather if they are american or not. Have you ever lost somebody near to you?

You told me that I don't have a right to say anything about this because my country didn't do enough in your point of view.

That was what I replied to. You don't have to give me every thing USA has done. Just to correct you on one or to things there: America did not invent the car. The first car as we know it was invented by Benz and Daimler from Germany. The Cold war wasn't won by anyone. It had to come to and end both countries ruined themselfs on building those nuclear bombs. It ended because both sides found out that this couldn't go on any longer. I know the history.

There you got my citizenship reply. I could find any number on minorities in Norway, and I didn't really look it's late at night here. Ofcourse Norways figures can't compare the USA's, but hey you are 260-265 million people, we are 4,5.

to dis and neath, great posts! glad im not the only old person here O.o

to the others: as far as speculation of the race and gender of the next US president: you never know

btw we choose who we want as president, to an extent, but we still choose

when a valid choice comes again the electoral collage will choose our next president

be that choice a man or woman, a black or mexican, it doesn't really matter to the majority of americans

what america doesnt want: a person who makes up that they invented the internet, or someone who supports jane fonda or writes books about how america is a terrible place to live

we will always elect a patriot

on a side note: THE NE PATS ARE GONNA OWN ALL THIS YEAR!

    /salute

I can't wait to grow up and move out of America. I was thinking Canada, the tiny little country near Switzerland, or maybe even Norway. Just a nice place where I can be safe from WWIII(It will happen folks) And far far away from all the pigs living in America.

PS- I was born in Italy, raised in Cali and I have an american citizenship. Geuss that makes me unpatriotic? Oh well not like I care ::::31:: ::::33::
