I will gladly watch people die in other countries rather than here, in fact I think that was the point... Don't cry me a river about 1600+ people having died, that isn't even half of the people who died in 9/11... I would much rather see people die in other countries than here, that may be selfish, but so what, we don't deserve to have innocent Americans killed here on our soil... Saddam Hussein was indeed the next Hitler, we just didn't want to see another 'Munich' unfold where we catered to another ruthless dictator... Would you rather have seen millions of Kurdish slaughtered off like the Holocaust? It would have happened, in fact he was already planning it... Saddam used chemical warfare on his own people, killing tens of thousands of Kurds... This is one of his most serious charges he faces in fact... Again, you need to do more research before you call Iraq* (notice spelling) based on a lie...
Most independant estimates of the Iraqi civilian casualties since the US led coalition invaded Iraq to depose Saddam Hussein are actually in the hundreds of thousands, even the US governments own estimate puts the figure at several tens of thousands.
When Saddam Hussein was killing Kurds with chemical weapons it was during the 1980's when his regime was actively being backed by the US and several other western countries, mine included. These atrocities were ignored at the time as Iraq was being financially backed by the west in its war against Iran. Lets also not forget that George Bush Sr also appealed to the Iraqi people to rebel during the Gulf War, promising to provide military backing, and promptly failed to live upto his word when they did thus leading to more civilian casualties that could have been avoided.
Lets also not forget the whole Al-Qaeda issue, they were originally an extremist movement that was expelled from Saudi Arabia for their views. Only to be given money and military training by the west in order to hinder the USSR's attempts at taking control of Afghanistan. Had the CIA and other agencies monitored and isolated Al-Qaeda instead of funding them we could have possibly avoided the events of 9/11, as well as the Madrid and London bombings.
Unfortunately, we are now left trying to tidy up such problems that have resulted from 25+ years of misguided and ill-thoughtout interference by western governments.
PS. America didnt invent the computer; the first electronic computer was developed in Bletchley Park in the UK during WW2 to decrypt the German Enigma codes, called Colossus. Due to documents relating to the device being classified by the US and UK governments for many decades the American ENIAC machine claimed that title even though it wasnt in fact the first. The first mechanical computing device was technically the Difference Engine which was designed by Charles Babbage in the 1800's, an Englishman incase you wondered.
Shilak, you are seriously retarded, lmao What crack pipe you been hitting???wayching too much bullshit tv and believing it,....you have'nt got a clue wtf is going on girly...get a life, and learn the real facts before you open that craphole of a mouth.

What Shilak posted is true. Most of USA's current enemies have earlier been supplied with money and arms to aid the American cause. A Superpower is a state with the ability to influence events and project power on a global scale. In modern terms, this may imply an entity with a huge economy, a large population, and strong armed forces, including air and space power and a considerable arsenal of weapons of mass destruction. Hence, the EU definetly qualifies.

Financial influence is more important than military power and in that sense the EU is indeed a superpower. Still, the fact that EU cannot develop a common external affairs strategy (and the way the war in Iraq was handled is a good sign) has a detrimental effect on economy.
As far as historical data are concerned, Shilak was right on what he presented. Still, I hate all this pro/anti-american discussion, especially since extreme views (like "all americans are stupid") appeared that result from the anti-american propaganda in Europe rather than rational thinking.

I'm lucky if I can get 2-3 hours a day in for an MMORPG...
Honestly, I see no problem with this law... Really, MMORPG's in general, are NOT good for people...
5 hours a day is MORE then enough to dedicate daily to an online game...
I can honestly say as a former MMORPG addict (I'm talking 12+ hours a day easily), that MMORPG's are NOT a good thing to dedicate a large portion of your life to...
I'm happier now playing like 1 hour a day (if that) then I ever could have been playing all day...
IMO, this is a great thing, and more countries should introduce it...

Believing that something is appropriate or not and enforcing behaviours on others through state control are quite different, not to mention that certain similar laws (like alcohol restrictions in the US and Europe in the early 20th century) failed horribly and only led to a lovely new black market. I would consider any attempt of state control on human recreational activities as dangerous, as it may be a restriction on creativity and cognition.

It would be great IF it worked exactly as intended and nothing more/less...
It's one of those things that seems great on paper, yet fails to yield such a great outcome as it comes to be...
Really, it would be a great thing (socially/mentally/health-wise) if people stopped spending so much time with their computers/TV's... But it just won't happen, and if it did, we would still most likely see some kind of adverse consequences come from it...
Life sucks... We hate the way things are, but we would hate the outcome of changing it even more... We are the way we are for a reason...

I'm not an American, so it's not "our media" who let me think there is one. I'm from Greece and, due to the involvement of the CIA in the installment of the 1967 dictatorship (the worst dictatorship Greece has seen), most Greeks are not very fond of the US attempts to get involved in internal affairs of other countries. In Europe, as a whole, the cultural influence through technological advances, the financial competition and external affair tactics did give birth to an anti-american propaganda, where it's not US politics that it's criticised, but american culture and people as a whole.
When europeans use US political decisions as an excuse to make general remarks like "All Americans are stupid" and so on, something's terribly wrong. The need for cultural competition from both sides ("we invented this and that", etc) is also quite problematic.

The spelling sounded abit to harsh there, sorry. What I tried to say that is that: I don't like the new american politics that Bush stands for, and what I really don't understand is why he was reelected. I think that was a bad move. But not all bad, atleast now he can't become a President anymore. He was reelected = a majority of the americans voted on him = wich I think was a stupid. Therefor I called the Americans stupid. Because the majority made a bad decition, like I see it. But it was bad formulated and sounded more evil than it was intended.
And I don't hate you Americans. America has given me great things. But I have things that I don't like about them. And since USA is a superpower and things they do also will affect me in some ways, I feel that I should express my concerns.
You non-Americans have to keep in mind that we Americans don't elect our presidents for your benefit. Would you elect a leader based on what people in other countries wanted? No? Didn't think so.
Also, remember that we don't elect presidents based soley on their foriegn policy stance. If some people in Norway and France and other countries hated George Bush and didn't want us to re-elect him I can assure you that most Americans really didn't give a damn. The only Americans who brought that up as if it were important were the ones who weren't going to vote for him anyway, and most of them probably didn't really care but were just using any bit of political spin they could to try and sway other voters.
I can't say Bush is my favorite president and he's far from perfect. But it was our decision to make. And I wonder sometimes...if Gore had beaten Bush the first time around...what would be going on in the world now. How would Gore have responded to 9/11.
You can argue that Bush has gone a little over the top. But I wonder if Gore would have done anything at all besides a lot of talk. Given what happened I'm glad we had a president who wasn't afraid to kick a little arse. Even if some people think he has taken it a little too far I'd rather have a president that over-reacts than a president who doesn't react at all.
But anyway, all of you folks who get angry at the United States, take heart. We won't be at the top of the pecking order forever. We WILL inevitably slide down the scale someday and become a second rate power in the world. I won't venture to guess when it will happen but it will happen someday.
And it looks highly probably that China might be the next superpower. So cheer up guys. One of these days you might have China pushing it's enlightened philosophies on the world instead of evil, old America bullying everyone.
Wouldn't that be great? Then everyone could stop bitching and be happy and we would all live in a magical paradise of lollypop trees and beer fountains.
Not to do the moderators job or anything, but this thread is supposed to be about the Chinese government, its ok to compare them to America, but lets not turn this into a bash America thread. After all, this site wouldn't exist without it.
haha gore prolly woulda atleast responded to the 9/11, instead of sending the bin laudins home on private flights.
I have to agree neanderthal, wouldnt it be nice to have the communists trying to run the world. I'm totaly sure they will send care/aid packages to the countrys that need the help, send teh medical supplies to africa to stem the aids epidemic down there. Then we can have our 1.3 children, 2 hrs of mmo's and the joys of being hauled off to jail for saying our gov't sux.
America may suck but atleast they are trying to get everyone industrailized so they can stop whine'n about what we have*try working for it*. If ya wanna cry slavery, i dont own any and use your criminals..yes thats right instead of torchering and starving them make them work
this is crazy, first the pvp below 18 years isn't allowed anymore, and now this. i personaly think their going to far, your taking away people's freedom.
Um the Chinese dont have alot of freedom there smart guy. You must be one of those who suffers from "the whole world is like the USA" syndrome.
Wow that sucks... quick question.. 5 hours but does that include Rollover minutes???!!!!
What's your Wu Name? Donovan --> Wu Name = Violent Knight Methane47 --> Wu Name = Thunderous Leader "Some people call me the walking plank, 'cuz any where you go... Death is right behind you.." <i>ME<i>
Sounds like another quasi-educated poster taking your freedom for granted... Make no mistake about it, we are the country with the most freedom anywhere in the world...
Being a slave is still a slave. Just because you have more perks then the other slaves does not make it something to praise about.
Waco and Tiannamen? WTF? How can these two be compared at all? If anything, you have proven a point of why America is so free, let me break your fallacy of an argument down for you:
How can you compare these two...
The government slaughtering of people is one where you could start I guess.
Oh, and the amusing part of it all is. Even those people in Tiannamen square were warned to leave. You could also even say they were disturbing the peace(I know. harsh. Especially since I assume you live in the United States. Which is all about freedom of speech and the ability to peacefully protest).
The people in waco...They were odd. But minding their own business. There was never any sign of dangerous behavior. Except if you consider themselves being heavily armed(something that is protected by the 2nd ammendment. And in fact was put there to stop things like THAT from happening!).
Waco was the result of America's tolerance to ALL religions...
Errr. Wrong. Waco was partly the result of the BATF wanting to capitalize on taking down a religious group that many did not understand, and thus what you don't understand, are easily coerced into thinking they are dangerous. Hence the reason of why previous allegations of them doing things like being abusive to children, were even taken with any credibility, without proof.
David Koresh's movement was always on the radar as an 'extremist' religion, the Branch Davidians made no attempts to hide their beliefs, just as the hard core Mormons, KKK, Neo-Nazis and extremist Islam groups in America do currently...
I mean geez...God man. They were an odd sect of the Seventh Day Adventist. So then you automatically correlate them with dangerous groups like the KKK and Neo-Nazi's? Before spouting such remarks as being "quasi-educated", maybe you yourself should take your own advice about "checking facts" and quit feeding into every little tidbit the government throws at you.
In any other country, these groups would have been punished, jailed or deported (the Brits are deporting Muslims on a wholesale level now after London bombings), but here in America we have a Muslim giving a speech to the 911 victims in a nationally televised prayer vigil after we watched whackos fly planes into buildings...
I'm trying to see the point your making...But uhm. All i'm seeing you saying is pretty much, "They deport Muslims in other countries. Because they generalize, and see one of them doing bad, so they think all of them must do bad." Or even to the extreme of, "In other countries, particularly in the middle east, they kill, torture, and imprison those that don't fall in with their ideals. So we should be happy that we don't end up the same when we follow peculiar ideals."
Oh wait...oops. That did happen.
You need to check your facts bro, and spare us from your marquee knee-jerk comments that simply lump America's faults into a convenient argument for you to make, with zero credibility... Mine as well watch 'A Current Affair' to match your level of current event know-how... Jesus...
Sorry. I guess I should turn into a "Patriotic" Puppet, so that I may become automatically enlightened.
"Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal."
sorry to dissapoint you m8 but death is the certain end. After that you are put in a hole to decompose, or burned or whatever you religion/tradition says.

Mmmm beer fountains......./homer drool
haha gore prolly woulda atleast responded to the 9/11, instead of sending the bin laudins home on private flights.
