The only reason for this is because EvE only has one server ...... It has one of the lowest populations of any MMO but Not many have only one server. It is a great game and I like it. I am just tired of people acting like this was great feat .... what if WoW only had one server? 3 million online at one time?

Erm it is great!
It's the biggest mmorpg out there, other mmorpes your playign with like 3000 a server and EVE it can get upto 25k! In my eyes it's the biggest mmorpg out there.
Whocares if 5 million ppl play WOW when you can only play with 3000 at a time on a server.
25k people on 1 server has never been done before on a game!
Is verry good a game 3 years old that had 60k subs, after WoW hit stores,EVE got 100k subs in less than a year, and every month is geting new records.
It didnt hapend to any other mmo with EVE´s age or even less.
EvE is a verry well done game,a nice expirience, made by a small company.
If you go to www.mmorpg.com get EVE to 100k subs you will see few games with more than that(wow,swg,eq,eq2,l2,l1,ffxi,daoc,ragnarok,coh)others have less than 100k.
I beleave that EVE will get 200k players at the end of this year,if it kips like this.

The game is super laggy as it is on a Med Pop Server.
If WoW had half of what EVE has online on a reg basis (around 15-17k) then you would be sporting a ping of 40,000ms. If there were 7.5k pppl online at one time in WoW. You might as well forget about IronForge or Ogremarr. We're talking a ping of 600,000ms. Your reaction time would be less than that of the Mars Rover.

Yea, the performance in wow already sucks hard. And with queue lines of 2+ hours just to play the game I think more people per server is the last thing Blizzard needs right now.

You shouldn't compare it to a mass-market game like WoW. CCP's never had even a fraction of Blizzard's capital to spend on thier game, nor advertising. It's more comparable to smaller MMOs like Neocron, or Saga of Ryzom. In that light, it has been very successfull.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
400k online at once in China isnt really a large feat....considering they have 2 billion people.

Please name another game that has 25 k in one server at the same time ! And no, no chinese game has 400 k online in one server.
I dont care if WoW has 6 million people if I only see 5000 of them on my own server Gilneas and get lagged out by them. Compare that to 25 k and almost no lag (speaking of last weekend in EVE). The universe looks and feels populated, even more than WoW servers.
While I could not stand EVE one bit I will admit that having that many on one server is really something.. I mean like the person said earlier would does it matter if the game has a small community as a whole when that small community is jammed packed on one server.... Now go look at any other MMORPG out there and you will not even come close to that number. Far as im concerned in reality (which is based on what ever server my character is on) EVE is the biggest MMORPG... Other games should take notice of what there doing instead of making a new server ever two weeks and spreading there community population thin, which in turn makes it seem like the server your on is dead.. *looks at his WOW box*

EvE has a larger population now then it did 4? years ago when it started. Not many other games can really make that clame. Eve wasn't my thing but imo the CCP devs did a great job making a space based mmo work.
But the game is built to allow large numbers of people as long as they stay spread out over it's huge universe. If even 1/2 of the 25k people showed up in the same zone that game would lag and crash just like any other.
what 15k people in one system is similar to cramming an entire server of WOw into one village of course it would crash... I just fear it actually happening. Though it is proven to hold up 700 people in one system without lagg.

Cool ^^ Way to go! Feels good to know there are many advanced MMORPG players out there, sadly I did not find preciely EVE to be my biscuit. But it's good for future mmorpg's.

If you observe the MMORPG trend, games usually hit their peak shortly after the game is launched and slowly drops after that. EVE Online launched in 2003 and is steadily rising. I remember when the peak used to be only 10,000 players (those were the days) and now we have at least 10,000 people on at any given time.
Keep in mind that Blizzard has 5+ million SUBSCRIBERS, but that doesn't mean there's that many concurrent users playing across all servers. Typically, a single server can hold anywhere from 2,000-5,000 people without too much lag.
Originally posted by baff Originally posted by Jackcolt How is 25k a great feat? It just shows that there's minimal server traffic. You have answered your own question.
Of course. And what people should get from it, is that WoW servers need to handle a lot more traffic than the EvE server does. It's not because Blizzard wants the game to lag or just be evil they lvl population.
Oh noes, they bought one server instead of 30, very impressive
the game is only dull and emty space anyway, the amount of people you encounter really is about the same as a other mmorpg, other mmorpg's just rather take one smaller world with lots of detail then EVE's copy/past space with a star here and there. EVE is rather low on subscribers, it took them 3 years to get 100k. oh well, its a pretty low quality game anyway.

Yep! It rocks alright!
So far been playing for 2 months now, I still got a long way to go to get to 0 pt 0
space and even stand a chance.
it is a great feat....it shows the little guys can compete

The percentage of people with Internet access in China is miniscule. Even if you do it is heavily monitored. Just ask Google .
200 seperate servers with 3,000 in each doesn't count, all small fry
At 25,000 on ONE server, EVE is now the biggest mmorpg in the market
