You know that is so true, in the end after everyone has cried, and whined, and sat down and have taken note of there life in SWG and why oh why did this have to happen to me. And then got there blood boiling from a rumor and a thread and oh no I know this is that and that is this and there is that and blah blah blah, all that crap, just like Azh said, what does it matter. Is SOE going to shut down, nope, are they gonna make millions, yep. Is LA gonna shut down, nope, are they gonna make millions, yep. If BioWare does it are they gonna make a good game, yep, is it gonna be for everyone, nope, is there still going to be whinning and complaining, yep, will it be any different then from now, nope. What does it matter.

I mean I love the conspiracy theroies this guy comes up with: The Conspiracy: Key people in SOE are leaving! The truth: Koster's contract was up with SOE so he decided to start his own company.
The Conspiracy: Bioware is hiring all the former SOE employees The Truth: Bioware opened a new studio to create a new MMO and have hired people that used to work at all different companies.
The Conspiracy: Bioware is taking over SWG The Truth: Both SOE and LEC have said they'll be doing SWG for a long time. More Truth: Bioware's job posting says they want people with FANTASY gaming experience. Yeah, yeah using the term fantasy loosely, SWG could called fantasy, but use your brains people. If you're trying to hire people with a certain still set, are you going to use ambiguous defintions in the job posting? You really think it would be fun for them to weed though all the resumes from people that don't have the skills your looking for since you weren't clear in what you were looking for?

I guess you could be right, it's not growing per-se, but just alot of old players are coming back. It's quite plain to see that there are more people in game then there was after the NGE hit (NOTE: I'm not saying before the NGE). Either way, the game is not low on subscribers, and since you seem to now be taking Smedley's posts as fact, here ( http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=634090&query.id=0#M634090 ) he states the the game in no way is low on subs and that it is ranked #5.

A) No, the game isn't dying. I'm not alone on this, I've had this discussion in game with people and most people agree that the populations are picking up. Heh, yesterday I spontaneously started a 25 vs 30 (Imps were out numbered ) battle in Theed that started around 1am EST and lasted an hour and a half to 2 hours. I'm sure people here have had bigger, but what I just said doesn't seem like it's dead to me...
Doing fine, but could be better
C) How would I know, I don't see the lists The number of people I see standing around me in Theed doesn't seem to be too different tho...
D) I'd say in it's a state that is still enjoyable by alot, but there are certainly things that could be done to make it more fun , and maybe compelling to those that don't currently find it fun

Then prove me wrong. Show my ONE totally positive post you've ever made about SWG. You've been negative about this game since day one. I went back 2 years on this board and guess what I found? You bashing the heck out of SWG. Here are the links in case you don't believe me:
and that's from TWO YEARS ago. If I felt like looking I could probably go back another year and find you complaining. Supposedly you LOVED this game, when? When did you ever do anything but bitch about it?
You've lost all credibility with you "I'm quiting this game" posts, then the next week you're saying how the game sucks, and you know beccause you're playing it.
Then you perpetuate rumors siting other internet sites as "evidence", because God knows, if you read it on the internet it HAS to be true right?
I don't have a vendetta against you, I don't even know you. I take each post as it stands. If you say something I agree with I'll defend it just as adamently as I'm now bashing it, but I doubt you ever will as long as you choose to believe everything you read on the internet without engaging your brain. You try to pass it off as pure truth, even going so far as telling us your bother-in-law heard it first hand (which no one believes by the way). If you simply said, as others do, this is what I heard, and I belive it to be true because... You wouldn't see much few "snide comments".

No offense Obraik, but since when is anything that Smed says true or even important ?
What charts is he reffering to ? All charts i know is listing SWG from #72 down to #400, so i wonder where he saw SWG on rank 5 ? Maybe on the stateattorneys "to do list" ?
The subs (guess) must be around (roughly) from 20-50K these days. Considering 250K once, i would talk about a "catastrophical loss of subscriptions", ignoring Smeds delusion about SWG...
But like said, no offense: You are just a victim of their propaganda machine (not meant bad) and you like their game, so its ok.

Heh, was sorta meaning that for Riker He can't pick and choose what he wants to believe from Smed based on if it suits his argument or not...
This to me isn't a place for personal attacks or to pick anyone including:
admriker444
to have an issue. Why?
Because just like being in an MMO when i log out of either .. no one here really exists to me.
Life goes on.. the one that affects me or the one anyone else here leaves to go to. More or less we debate our personal views on things... what causes issues is the attempt to bring things here that many know are not true.
One thing I can tell you and anyone else who works in most industries involving corporations can tell you is..
When a company hires for an "undisclosed" project... and this even goes for companies making safety training films that require a video editor etc..
You will never know the project you are being interviewed for or anything about it. Until they hire you, contracts are signed and this includes an NDA. That is just how its done and its industry standard.
You can draw your own conclusion as to what I'm relating that about.
That said there is the post with links to two threads from
admriker444
just above here.
There is one I totally agree with. Where he is stating differences in some classes showed up and were obviously severely unblanced in pve.. as well as pvp to at least some extent.
Engraged Bull Rancors... various forms of the Mutant Rancor and I think the bigger one was the Ancient Gnarled Rancor or something around that.
Going up to a nest of these with a Master Pike... your entire combat was..
Run up to nest, stand on nest, hit area spin attack 3 to 5 times nest dead.
I had a friend that in fact was TKM with Fencer...
When our guild went hunting and the two of us hit a nest... NO ranged combat person in our group even had time to get a shot off.
I also played Bounty Hunter.. the only time my bounty hunter did something "really cool" pve wise was..
I remember the game was maybe a month old. First guild took us to LoK and (memory fails here) there were two NPC humanoid type missions. One I think was pirates and the other mercs. Well we were only allowed to pull one because they said
"the other would wipe a group".
They were mostly ranged and ham cost + armor at the time = dead.
Anyway the other type of humanoid obviously paid more. So when I woke up the next day I took my BH who had LLC tree to 4 and some CH. I sent my Graul into the camp to get aggro and then used cone to drop the npc's.
At some point I figured out that going into Smuggler enough to get slicing 1 would really enhance my credit potential.
Anyway... yes the game was messed up in various ways like that. But those were things that could be fixed.
And...
Now a point to be made about something that doesn't involve that poor guy cuz... He really doesn't need to feel that I single him out.
As to the game dying.. I am going to give you a Smed quote then add in the basic math explination which I have done else where but... here goes.
** I can't find the quote because there is so much dev tracker action on swg forum.. but it was actually more than one post of his I wanted to reflect on and you can find what I'm going to say in his post the last day or two **
It went along these lines.
Smed said they had in fact lost a "big" chunk of subs
Smed said they were losing subs before NGE
Smed said they are losing fewer subs now
Smed said there was more population pre-nge but the servers were not full
which was the problem
Smed says the servers are still not full (obviously) and in his opinion they need to do mergers
Smed also says the game is not where it needs to be to bring new bus
Smed concluded that its closer to that point with every publish.
****
If you go through what Smedley is saying he is saying they have less subs. But he is also stating that the game will bring more subs in or back when they get it where it needs to be.
(sounds logical)
When he states they have less people (if you read through all his stuff he does say there is less but they were losing them before so reading into that he is thinking they were going to get to this point regardless and had to do something).
Then goes on to say they are losing fewer subs now.
Well obviously... The fewer subs you have percentage wise it becomes abundantly clear with a logical math type thinking that your cancellation factor goes down to some degree related to your total sub base.
Is the game dead? Well when its shut down (if it is) that will be the official comment that its dead.
What it really comes down to is.. whether or not Smedley is correct that at some future publish it gets to the point where...
"the game brings in new subs"
And none of us including me know if that will ever happen... or if it will die instead.
I used to play a game called Earth and Beyond.. loved that little game. EA never finsihed, never really funded it and never really advertised it.
One day they told us that 6 months later the game would shut down. It was nice of them to tell us so that we could enjoy the time we had left.
It's funny that everyone always says that at one time galaxies had 250k subs when a press release from Lucas arts on the one year anniversary said that they had over 500k with more than 115k peope logging in daily. I posted the link here the other day in a post entitled "What a difference two years makes" also if you check stratics there was a post abot three weeks after launch where Koster said that the game had more 125k subs in the first week and they were way past that at the time of the interview. Galaxies never had WOW numbers but at one point it was doing well. They lost tons of subs with the first CU but it did not seem that bad because there were alot of new player because Revenge of the Sith had just come out. My guess is that the brainiacs at SOE thought that they would lose subs with the NGE like the first CU but they thought they would get the same influx of new players.
With the low numbers, no movies insite, and a president that says that the game is not fun at this time but says give them time and it will be I don't see how the game can continue.
Obraik......I hate to be the one to get your head out of the sand but swg has nowhere near the people it had after the first year. I would bet my left nut that 90% of the player base is GONE. Ive played and still have an active account since day one (it actually runs out in the beginning of april which I wont resub). I was there for it all, the original swg, cu, then the nge. The game its first year was always crowded. Yes the big cities were crowded due to no player cities or mounts but after the player cities and mounts were brought into the game everything was still crowded with people.
When the CU hit is when I started noticing the player base dwindling. Even though the game was playable, the player base didnt seem to care for it as much as they wanted. They knew the CU was coming but I think most found the old system better than the new but alot of people still played.
Now the NGE......After the nge, the player community revolted. Ive never seen a player base quit as fast as swg-nge. Huge guilds disbanded and quit the game mostly to play wow. There were so many "i quit, nge sucks" posts on the forums, no one could keep up with them all. Just think of all the people who quit that didnt say a word.
Now when I log on, I barely see anyone. Not anywhere. Peak or off-peak. And I just dont mean the big cities. I mean everywhere. I posted this same argument a few months ago and some hypocrite told me there was no need for big cities anymore. This may be true but if they arent in the big cities where are they? Ive searched every deserted player city on bloodfin and NO ONE IS THERE. They arent in space either because ive checked. The only place I havent checked was mustufar because I wasnt gonna buy an expansion to a game I barely played.
Since you play swg on a regular basis, I believe you have gotten used to the capacity of players you see. But if you go back to pre-cu or even the cu, you will know exactly what Im saying.
The game is done. Its over. The days of swg are numbered as much as you hate to see it. This is no way a flame to you what so ever. I applaude you for playing swg in its current state. But as for myself and 200,000 others or more, they will spend thier money on something that is better and less flawed.

The Truth: Bioware opened a new studio to create a new MMO and have hired people that used to work at all different companies.
The Conspiracy: Bioware is taking over SWG
The Truth: Both SOE and LEC have said they'll be doing SWG for a long time.
Pheh, I need a bath in bleach now.

I claimed the game wasn't/isn't dead (and it isn't) and that it was growing from what was there soon after the NGE hit. No I haven't been silent about it, I told you this in another thread of yours 2 days ago
Still cant admit you are wrong eh ? Smedley stated the game is LOSING subscribers. That means its NOT growing.
I know that this is off topic, but I had to throw this out there.

Obraik ... seriously bro .... A) would you say the game is dying? dead for all practicle purposes? Dead, just waiting for the burial?
Would you say the state of the game is "healthy"? Doing fine? Better than you EVER seen it?
C) Are account numbers up to preNGE level? Where are they?
D) How you YOU qualify the state of the game? Realisticly.
Send it to me in a PM if you want. If you do i will not post your answer. There is enough grief going around here as it is.
You're probably right. I'm sorry. I just get really, REALLY sick of people singling Obraik out. It sticks in my craw that people seem to feel this obsessive need to make him eat his words. No one on these boards could say I'll ever agree with him when it comes to supporting the NGE, but I happen to like the fact that Obraik debates well, represents his side of the issue intelligently and remains a part of the extended community despite his views. I'd like to keep it that way. And I honestly think that if people use him as a punching bag, he may eventually walk away from the community in disgust because he's not allowed to tell his version of the truth as he sees it.
That's why I get uppity on his behalf. Just the same way I've gotten uppity on Riker's behalf time and time again. To me, it's more about who we are as a community than it is about what side we happen to be on.
Thanks! Despite being badly outnumbered here heh, I do enjoy a good debate And yeah, deep down, the community here is pretty cool
Then prove me wrong. Show my ONE totally positive post you've ever made about SWG. You've been negative about this game since day one. I went back 2 years on this board and guess what I found? You bashing the heck out of SWG. Here are the links in case you don't believe me:
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/setstart/11/loadthread/15404/loadforum/433/loadclass/103
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/load/forums/loadforum/433/loadthread/15419/setstart/1/loadclass/103
and that's from TWO YEARS ago.
Obraik:
>>> and since you seem to now be taking Smedley's posts as fact, here ( http://forums.station.sony.

Claude
I don't claim to be right, I'm just posting.
