Guess what the conclusion was? No one is playing just like I said before. And yes...you can look at Theed, Coronet and Bestine as an indicator of the server population. Its just that one cant take those places as the only foundation for such accusations. I hope this is clear enough for you to understand. You also gave me some good advice about combat and such. Something I definitely needed after being holed up and crafting for months. Anyways, it's good to see someone from the old server.
I can't claim any first hand knowledge about the current state of affairs that SWG is in since I left right before the CU hit. For some reason I had a bad feeling back then about the direction of the game and other changes that were rumored. I can say that I don't regret my decision much now after hearing all the backlash from the NGE.
I had always hoped to come back and get into weaponsmithing again but I really don't see any chance of that happening again. I guess I'm one of the few who really liked the whole crafting system and the diversity of the professions but "apparently" there just wasn't enough of us considering their move to pretty much a combat only FPS.
It is sad to hear about the changes and the apparent demise of SWG from what it was. I started in beta 2 and thought the game had a lot of potential. Today, it's hard to understand how a company can take a well known property like "Star Wars" and pretty much run it into the ground. You'd almost need C-3P0 to tell you those fricken odds.
As for all the current rumors, I guess only time will tell. If the license were to go to another company I would be more than happy but still somewhat skeptical about the eventual outcome of it. Star Wars Galaxies "was" like a world unto itself with something for everyone. Professions that would fit anyone's play style and that attracted all types of people. It had an economy which tied groups together but at the same time didn't force people to interact. I remember as a Weaponsmith buying resources from various people and at the same time people were harvesting bones, hide, and meat for armorsmiths, chefs, etc. Classes actually had the ability to support other classes. Now they've basically alienated anyone who isn't strictly into combat. Which is truly sad in my opinion, as an entire player base has basically been given the finger.

So this kind of stuff goes on and you people eat it up. And yet I hear people poo poo and make fun of conspiracy theorists. I can't help but see the irony in that.
A single company can get away with doing something like this, even with the porosity and leaks that they have. Yet you people find it difficult or even impossible to believe the things our government is accused of doing. Even with the discolsed and documented history of it all happening before. And this is SOE, imagine a company with government ties, like Haliburton or the oil companies.

Be prepared to give up either your combat or non-copmbat profession when you fire your account back up. I was a master pikeman madter armorsmith prior to the NGE... I dropped armorsmith and retrained it on my alt.. only to find that there was no longer a demand for crafted armor.
I wish what we got was battlefront 2 with stats.. it would be better than the NGE. Just looking at the combat changes, I think it might have been a decent idea.. for me anyway, because i like FPS games.... but it isnt like a first person shooter at all. You cant fire if you dont have a target lined up, so any time you do fire, it hits. Special attqacks often do not fire when you need them most... but the worst part is that the NPCs arent coded for first person shooter. Since they have no collision with each other, you generally end up with 4 or 5 occupying the same space, and hitting a different one with each shot.. killing none of them. I could even get past that if 1/3 of the quests didnt have a dead end bug in them. I have never seen a game with so many bugs.. and they say it is their goal to get all the major, game breaking bugs out within 6 months.... good luck with that... I hope that the litterally tens of subscribers they have left in 6 months enjoy their bug free game.
Wow I have to admit he number of posts about SWG in the last week has been staggering. Really. The interest in this game is actually really surprising.
As for the arguments for SWG being "dead"....its not.
In fact, not one MMO is really dead. I dont really think an MMO is going to "die." These are NEW GAMES we are dealing with people. These new games came out in the last oh I should say 10 years. These arent like the games you bought in stores. It is extremely hard for MMO's to die becuase there such a large playerbase. SWG is dying, yes, but it will never die. We can all cut the crap here to say that it isnt losing a playerbase. I think we can all say the majority of SWG's playerbase is gone, just take a freakin look at the forums on here and other sites. Its ridiculous how SOE has hurt SWG. The stupidity of the dev team is...well quite frankly I think my 11 year old cousin can make a better game than all of the dev's ideas for it combined.

It was just amazing to read the posts the other night when the devs were posting. The people went from "i hate soe they lie all the time about everything!" to " oh well, they said they're adding cool stuff for the gcw and not losing the lisence and smed's not getting fired and the devs arent posting like this because they are desperate, they are posting because they love us and the game! We believe soe!"
Its just sad.
If soe said, yes we lost the lisence, yes our devs are leaving us in droves, yes smed's job is in danger, dont you think people would cancel right there on the spot?

It is sad to hear about the changes and the apparent demise of SWG from what it was. I started in beta 2 and thought the game had a lot of potential. Today, it's hard to understand how a company can take a well known property like "Star Wars" and pretty much run it into the ground. You'd almost need C-3P0 to tell you those fricken odds.
As for all the current rumors, I guess only time will tell. If the license were to go to another company I would be more than happy but still somewhat skeptical about the eventual outcome of it. I mean look at what SOE did with it. In the end, I would love nothing more than to come back to the game as it was when I left it but I won't hold my breath.
I didn't get into SWG until just after the CU. LOVED the game once they got lots of the bugs ironed out. Played an engineer/pistoleer/pilot. Most of my time was spent crafting and I honestly enjoyed it. One of the best crafting systems I've yet to come accross. Now they say that they basically want a game where you only play the heroic fighter and all I can say is WHY? I liked the game because it was a world simulator. I liked being a crafter and merchant. I found that FUN. I liked fighting as well, but not as my only activity. I like combat games like WoW as well, but I played SWG to have something different. I was subscribed from last May to August. Not a long time, but I was moving so couldn't play anyways. Once I could start again, the NGE happened. While I have not played it and will withhold judgement, I can allready tell you that I dont like the fact that crafters seem to have become second class citizens. It seems like the game has become SW Battlefront with levels, equipment, and stats...which is not necessarily BAD, just not what I want to play...hopefully either SOE can fix this (though it sounds like they dont care to) or someone else gets the license. Their are no other games like what SWG was. EVE and Ryzom bored me so no help there...

Star Wars Galaxies "was" like a world unto itself with something for everyone. Professions that would fit anyone's play style and that attracted all types of people. It had an economy which tied groups together but at the same time didn't force people to interact. I remember as a Weaponsmith buying resources from various people and at the same time people were harvesting bones, hide, and meat for armorsmiths, chefs, etc. Classes actually had the ability to support other classes. Now they've basically alienated anyone who isn't strictly into combat. Which is truly sad in my opinion, as an entire player base has basically been given the finger.

A single company can get away with doing something like this, even with the porosity and leaks that they have. Yet you people find it difficult or even impossible to believe the things our government is accused of doing. Even with the discolsed and documented history of it all happening before. And this is SOE, imagine a company with government ties, like Haliburton or the oil companies.
I know this is off topic for this discussion, but it just makes my blood boil when I read some of the posts by people in other threads, like in the 'Off Topic' discussions.
If anyone who has posted the "black helicopter" crap over in the 'off topic' discussion section is posting here, you're the ones I'm writing this too.

Be prepared to give up either your combat or non-copmbat profession when you fire your account back up. I was a master pikeman madter armorsmith prior to the NGE... I dropped armorsmith and retrained it on my alt.. only to find that there was no longer a demand for crafted armor.
I wish what we got was battlefront 2 with stats.. it would be better than the NGE. Just looking at the combat changes, I think it might have been a decent idea.. for me anyway, because i like FPS games.... but it isnt like a first person shooter at all. You cant fire if you dont have a target lined up, so any time you do fire, it hits. Special attqacks often do not fire when you need them most... but the worst part is that the NPCs arent coded for first person shooter. Since they have no collision with each other, you generally end up with 4 or 5 occupying the same space, and hitting a different one with each shot.. killing none of them. I could even get past that if 1/3 of the quests didnt have a dead end bug in them. I have never seen a game with so many bugs.. and they say it is their goal to get all the major, game breaking bugs out within 6 months.... good luck with that... I hope that the litterally tens of subscribers they have left in 6 months enjoy their bug free game.

Wow I have to admit he number of posts about SWG in the last week has been staggering. Really. The interest in this game is actually really surprising.
As for the arguments for SWG being "dead"....its not.
In fact, not one MMO is really dead. I dont really think an MMO is going to "die." These are NEW GAMES we are dealing with people. These new games came out in the last oh I should say 10 years. These arent like the games you bought in stores. It is extremely hard for MMO's to die becuase there such a large playerbase. SWG is dying, yes, but it will never die. We can all cut the crap here to say that it isnt losing a playerbase. I think we can all say the majority of SWG's playerbase is gone, just take a freakin look at the forums on here and other sites. Its ridiculous how SOE has hurt SWG. The stupidity of the dev team is...well quite frankly I think my 11 year old cousin can make a better game than all of the dev's ideas for it combined.

Ask SOE to stop unsolicited contact threatening a lawsuit. If they persist you can sue them for harassment. It is technically a crime to continue to threaten someone with a lawsuit.
I happen to have a few lawyers in the state of michigan willing to assist in this matter pro-bono on writing the certified seise and desist letter to SOE that has a giant fuck you as that is the most ludicruis legal thing one of them ever saw.
Publizing a rumor and stating something is a confirmed or unconfirmed about a publicly held company threatening suit is a joke. Every tabloid would not be allowed to operate. Most media. SOE is a joke. Its legal staff is a joke and its playerbase is a bunch of newbs.

Lets put it this way, if you were dating someone who lied to you as much as soe lied or mislead its customers, would you still be with them?
It was just amazing to read the posts the other night when the devs were posting. The people went from "i hate soe they lie all the time about everything!" to " oh well, they said they're adding cool stuff for the gcw and not losing the lisence and smed's not getting fired and the devs arent posting like this because they are desperate, they are posting because they love us and the game! We believe soe!"
Its just sad.
If soe said, yes we lost the lisence, yes our devs are leaving us in droves, yes smed's job is in danger, dont you think people would cancel right there on the spot?
If soe had said, yes we're remaking the game for the 2nd time, we're cutting out most of your favorite professions, and we're making crafters and entertainers useless, do you think people would have bought the obi wan expansion if they had announced it before hand?

Don't really know the context, but I'll agree with screenshots, the active population dropped incredibly. One group on mustafar, eisley with a couple of new players, and theed seems to have some people standing around.
I don't know from which server this is on, but it's consistent with what I saw 2 months ago when I last logged in.
