I agree here. If the Lebonese government would crack down on Hezbolah ( though I know that's hard since roughly 20% of their elected officials ARE Hezbolah ) then Israel wouldn't HAVE to take the stance they are.

Pretty much. They are both "extremist" groups that have worked their way into the legitmate politcal parties. The only difference with the Taliban was that they became the predominant politcal power in Afghanistan, something that could VERY EASILY happen in Lebonon with Hezbolah if not kept in check.
Being 30, I grew up hearing about Hezbolah all through the 80s. The were the Al Queda of my youth. There's just SO many groups out there now that it's getting whacky to keep track. The scary thing in this current Israeli/Hezbolah situation is that Hezbolah and Hamas are marching together, two groups that have spent just as much time killing each other as they have any Isrealis. That's a scary prospect.

America has backed Israel and everything they do for many years, given them tanks, missles and automatic weapons and pretty much said "have fun fella's", i'm sure it must be fun to attack people who can only hurl rocks and insults with modern technology, "but, but, they took a couple hostages!" i can hear you saying, give me a freakin break, your borderline retarded if you think a small number of hostages that were taken in response to previous attacks by israel meant bombing the living hell out of everyone is justified.
When your tossing hundreds of bombs daily at some place you obviously don't care if any "hostages" get hit, and if they do you can always claim they were like that before you got there.

Sorry for the grammar corrections but I do find irony in calling someone "borderline retarded" if you can't distinguish between a contraction and a possessive. Those were the only corrections I opted to point out at this time. Don't get me wrong, I make typos as well, but it really does look like you're living ina glass house tossing stones. Normally, I wouldn't be that anal-rententive, but when you are going to call someone "borderline retarded" for disagreeing with your OPINION it just begs this sort of scrutiny.
Now to the facts of the matter. Let me get this straight, your logic is that since Hezbolah doesn't have the same technological weaponry as Israel that the Israelis should allow them to arbitrarily toss rockets into Haifa? I'm not sure where you were going with pointing out that the U.S. has been backing Israel with technology, weaponry, and finances for years. This isn't news to anyone, we're allies. This is kind of what allies do. However, I really don't see the relevance of pointing out the technological differences here. Are you telling me that if you owned a gun and a group of people broke into your house wielding knives you wouldn't use the gun to defend yourself? Would you only grab another knife so you didn't wave your technological superiority in their face?
Last I checked Israel wasn't "tossing" bombs at "some place" as they were hitting specific targets. Did they bomb Beruit International Airport? Did they hit several ports in Lebonon? They sure have. Their goal was to cut off supply lines and reinforcements. I can see where you are going with your logic as to whether or not these tagrets are legitimate, but what would you do? Sit back and think "Well, we can't attack that target because there's some civilains around. Sure, there's a ton of Hezbolah hiding there to, but as long as there are civilians around all we can do is hurl profanity at them."? Hezbolah isn't firing rockets at ANY specific targets because they DON'T care who they kill, as long as they are Israeli. Meanwhile, they are hiding behind civilians so the Israelis cannot fire back. Now who's at fault for this issue? The Lebonese government. They need to step up themselves and get Hezbolah out of these locations. If someone was hiding in MY house taking potshots at you I wouldn't sit back and let them stay. I'd kick them out with a vengeance sheerly for the crap they were bringing down on me and mine.
It's very easy for the rest of the world to sit back and judge Israel for their actions, many of which I will agree might be a bit TOO extreme at times. But NONE of us can really fathom what it must feel like being SURROUNDED by groups of people who want every last one of your people dead. Something they have to deal with each and every day. I am quite sure that's gotta put a chip on your shoulder.
Israel has said "We will stop when Hezbolah is broken or disarmed." Hezbolah has said "We will stop when every Israeli is dead." Now which group sounds a bit more extreme to you?
"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? There isn't really much point blaming the Lebanese government.
They don't have the power. Two months ago they were a puppet regime for Syria, now they have been abandoned completely. Anyone who wants to rein in Hezbollah will have to do it themselves.
If it is to stop, someone has to go in and take power. The Israeli's, The Syrians, the British, whoever. Hezbollah is ready to rock. If left to their own devices, that's exactly what they will do.

I live in Virginia, and recently there was a massive oil spot found about 100 or so miles off the coast, but the government wont allow drilling for some unknown reason. Gas is around $2.93 for regular here, and im sure its gonna go up now that a bunch of ports in Lebanon have been blown.

Really? See, now I was completely unaware of that (probably missed it's report on the news amogst everything else we are innundated with). Sweet, I'd LOVE to see the US do more business with Canada on that front than any of the other major providing countries listed in that report.
Thanks for the info, Ano. I am going have to look into that info. I hope you guys really figure something out so process those untapped sources. Of course, I still really hope the world can start to move away from oil in general.
The process is easy, it's just expensive. As oil prices rise other methods of getting oil become more viable.
Olive oil works as diesal fuel without any adjustment to the engine. You can grow it anywhere, but it's not the cheapest way.
With oil prices so high we can expect new fields to open (ones that were previously economically non viable), and gradually prices will come back down.
Britain was the first country to invade Pelastine, and then after killing so many and destroying so much, they "shipped" israelies from europe to Pelastine.
i don't know why but i can figure out that the israelies whined alot about not having their own place to the britain govie., then britain decided oh well, let's take that weak country and give it to them so they can SHUT UP AND LEAVE US ALONE.
then britain invation, shipping of jews, migrating, taking the arab homes by force, destroying other homes on top of their dwellers, and so on.
now after people started retaliating at them, they branded them terrorists, and every movement the arab did to attack israel ended up in britain bombarding them from the skies, how brave.
then after many bombardments britain didn't want to spend more money and resources into this pointless war and left it to the jews, selling them weapons, and since the USA has so many jews in power, they also decided to aid them by supplying them with EVERYTHING.
now they're killing our brothers, our brothers are killing them, we are terrorists, they are not.
an invading nation is a fair game as some call it, innocent civies are fair game too, both sides suffer, so there's no need to complain here about hezbollah attacking civies, so does israel, and they are the ones who started it anyway.

Who is actually the guilty one. Who has taken the lands of the arabs? Who has been terrorizing the arabs from the beginning the Israeli state was founded? You talk about the intolerance of the Islam but what about the intolerance of the Judaism. In Israel you can't get high up on the ladder when you are not a jew. Is that freedom? Don't spew all this hate, please.Jews where promised that land by god. Why do you think they want it and believe they deserve it so bad? And if im not mistaken, did the jews not own the land before the Arabs who took it away and controlled it for thousands of years until recently, when the state of israel was founded? The jews never have had a land of their own, they had always been citizens of other nations/powers. Egypt, Rome, England, ... Only recently (after WWII they got their own country at the expense of the arabs.
I'd wish to correct you there. The israelis had their own kingdom about 2800 years ago, namely the kingdom of Juda (where the word Jew comes from) and the Kingdom of Israel. Both used to be one during the reign of king David and Solomon

I'll take a bet Romans invaded Palestine before Britain, and the Egyptians and the Syrians and God knows who else. Britain has a long history of forced migrations and they are always painful on the locals. Maoris and Sioux all but wiped out to make way for the colonists. Don't expect any apologies.
During WW2, Britain gave safe refuge to all the Jews of Europe who were under threat from the Holocaust. It's the first time in the History of man that the nature of that kind of slaughter was captured on film. The Jews needed somewhere to live. Many of them prefered Jerusalem to London, and since we were all starving and unable to feed ourselves in London, so did we.
Blaming the U.S. or Britain or France for Israel/Palestine/Lebanons problems is going to get you one thing and one thing only, a load of very fed up Americans and Europeans. When you can afford to feed yourselves, you can afford to make enemies of us. Keep biting the hand that feeds you and you are going to go hungry. No one is forcing us to provide 90% of the food and money to those places. It's not just Israel we support.
Terrorist is a very subjective term, I wouldn't take it too seriously if I were you. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
The Jews have always been in Israel. However, formerly the Palestinians were top dog and the shoe was on the other foot. When the Palestinians were in control they weren't very nice either and no one cared about the Jews.
No one is killing my brothers. I don't have any brothers. I have one sister only. Do you have Palestinian or Lebanese family? Or are you just trying to glorify war?
There isn't any right and wrong in wars. No good guys and no bad guys. Just a load of otherwise nice people trying to kill each other and survive.
.
I'm really tired of listening to Muslims or Arabs or Palestians (or however you like to label yourself) and even Jews cry. Understand the Status Quo. The Israeli's are there to stay. If you mess with them, they will kill you.
Did the Israeli's really start it? Totally irrelevant. If you make them mad enough they will end it.
No god and no prophecy can save you. You may get into heaven a little earlier, but you will create a bigger slice ofhell on earth for those you leave behind.

Yeah, the tar sands (or sand oil, whichever you prefer)
The technology is still fairly new and as such, more expensive. Eventually it will become more viable with cheaper tech and higher overall oil prices. And here's the real kicker (from the Wiki):
Tar sands represent as much as 66% of the world's total reserves of oil, with at least 1.7 trillion barrels in the Canadian Athabasca Tar Sands and 1.8 trillion barrels in the Venezuelan Orinoco tar sands, compared to 1.75 trillion barrels of conventional oil worldwide, most of it in Saudi Arabia and other Middle-Eastern countries.

That was justified by a "terrorist" attack by this unseen and unheard of enemy that no one ever knew about till 9/11. Now whether that was an inside job or not does not matter. So we get a foot in the Middle East. Now our allie, more like puppet, Israel has attacked Lebanon over a captured soldier. now come on, WHO THE F*** STARTS A WAR OVER ONE HOSTAGE? This is only the beggining of the bigger plan. Now Israel is in a war with Lebanon, and who does Lebanon gets its weapons from? Iran and Syria!! So why is the American gov so agaisnt a peace treaty with Lebanon and Israel? Because now we have an reason to take one over one of the largest OIL producing countries in the WORLD! Syria is a side note. Although to tell the truth, Lebanon has more Syrian weapons than from any other country. Now the Amercian gov will connect this Hezbollah to Iran just as they did with Iraq and Osama. And then what? Where to next for this fascist, imperialistic, immoral, terrorist gov? I just hope someone will stand up for all the people who die everyday cause of this ignorant gov.

Okay, first, can I suggest you meet a new friend called "the enter key". That mess is as run-on as it gets. Makes it kind of hard to read what your point is.
Now, since you are such a grand intellect here to shine the light down on us all...
Israel is going to fight regardless of our backing or not. While I will concur with you that they HAVE our backing and that may enbolden them a bit, they are a country surrounded by people out for their blood. Sitting in your safe little home it's easy for you to wag a finger around and point blame but until you live a day in that life you really don't have foot one to stand on in the way of judgement.
Now when you say "connect this Hezbollah" that really tells me that you're acting as if we've never heard about them before. I grew UP hearing about Hezbollah. They were the Al Queda of the 80s. They're not some "new" group that's been made up by the media to control the masses into some mass-hypnosis syndrome like you seem to think everyone has fallen under. Ask the Lebonese Government who they are? They don't like them. However, due to exploitation of an open voting system roughly 20% of the Lebonese Government IS Hezbollah. This took place LONG before anything that is going on today. Seems to me you've not read much in the way of history over there. As for whether or not Iran is supporting Hezbollah, most of their weapons DO come from Iran. Iran IS a trouble maker, straight out. Ask Pakistan, Egypt, Lybia, or Suadi Arabia. Iranians are "persians" and think themselves above the "arabs". So it doesn't shock me that they would use arabs to do their dirty work for them.
So Israel is at war with Lebanon now? That's odd, last I heard the declaration was between Israel and Hezbollah. If you're going to point out the targets attacked by Israel, feel free to read up in this thread in one of my previous posts, read Sun Tzu, take a few basic lesson in strategy, then come back to me.
It amazes me how you claim EVERYONE is so under the spell of the current government in the U.S. ( though I would like to point out that Hezbollah has been around since at the VERY least Reagan, which means Bush Sr. and Clinton too. You're brainwashing theory starts getting a little long in the tooth here ) but you are STUCK on oil, oil, oil. Do you even realise just how much oil there is in the REST of the world? Yet you can freely spout out phrases like "One of the largest oil producing countries in the world" without a single point of research to back that up? You are sounding like a broken record with the "oil song" going over and over in your head. Oil may be "A" reason but stop trying to sum it up as "THE" reason for everything. You really may want to think about putting your tinfoil hat on to tune out the CIAs brain-manipulating-waves for a few moments.
Now, where you lost me entirely. Military Strongholds in the Middle East by TAKING Afghanistan and Iraq? Are you implying that we've had no real military presence there until we went into those two countries? Kuwait and Suadi Arabia could tell you otherwise. We've openly had bases in those two countries for at least 15+ years. I guess we were looking for another "Military Stronghold" when we bombed the tar out of old MoMo Gadhafi back in the 80s too?
I guess since we're only in it for oil Venuzeula must be next. I mean, they produce more oil that Iraq and we can't STAND Hugo "I've been funding the import of illegal aliens into the United States for quite some time just to mess with you all" Chavez there. And hell, look how much CLOSER that is. Weeee....

Oil is a factor. Most of the worlds oil is in the Middle East. The rest of the world does not produce enough oil to satisfy U.S demand. (Canadian tar pits are a red herring, the extraction process is a joke.)
.
Military strongholds is a factor. In order for us to secure our oil supply we must maintain a military presence in the region. Israel is an excellent strategic ally, without us they will go under. An ally that needs you is the best kind.
Military strongholds in Iraq is a factor. Not so much in Afghanistan.
After 9/11, Saudi kicked us out. Osama said leave the Holy Land or else. So we started packing our bags. No choice. 9/11 stung and the unrest in Saudi was destabilising the Regime.
We need new miltary bases in the region. Iraqs a good one. It's got oil and coastline it's next to our biggest regional bugbear Iran and our strongest regional ally, Turkey. As luck would have it we had just spent the last ten years politically isolating it, fostering revolutions and degrading it's military infrastructure. It's great to be as smart as us.
NB when the U.S. bombed Ghaddafi, it was a reprisal. They did not invade. The circumstances are not comparable.
"I guess since we're only in it for oil Venuzeula must be next".
It was last. The U.S. already tried to overthrow Chavez and has been fomenting dissent and revolution in Venezuala since he came to power. I don't suppose he was a massive fan of the U.S. before you tried to kill him, but he sure doesn't like you now. He is however rather lucky that the U.S. is militarily overstretched right now. We re-based into Qatar. It's not as if we packed up and came home, thus putting everything out of reach again if needed. I don't blame the Saudi's in their decision to ask us to remove out Base of Operations out of their area with Osama threatening attacks on THEM if they didn't do so, but we've not severed all military ties with the Suadi's. We still have mutual trade and supply agreements as well as training regiments. We need new miltary bases in the region. Iraqs a good one. Hence why a lot of the other arabic countries in the Middle East wouldn't weep too long if Iran was gone. Sure, we fostered the unrest there, but that's tactical and not much different that the founding fathers did here in the U.S. for the Revolution. NB when the U.S. bombed Ghaddafi, it was a reprisal. They did not invade. The circumstances are not comparable. The comparison is similar. Gadhafi pulled a Saddam. He began making chemical weapons plants and was told to shut them down, comply or else. He didn't, we bombed the crap out of those foundries, attacks which cost him the lives of his familiy members. The VARYING difference between the two is that directly after the attacks MoMo complied. Saddam stayed defiant which REQUIRES invasion from a military perspective. "I guess since we're only in it for oil Venuzeula must be next". It was last. I don't suppose he was a massive fan of the U.S. before you tried to kill him, but he sure doesn't like you now. Fostering revolution amongst a people who, for all appearances, can't stand their own leader is QUITE different than invading for oil stakes. The man IS paranoid and pounds it down on his own people. Why is paranoid? Well maybe he's just nuts or maybe he knows he's treating his people like crap and that sooner or later someone is going to go after him for that. I mean, he banned a VIDEO GAME because "it taught his people how to overthrow him." That makes about as much sense and Kim Jong-il "demanding" to be recorded in history as a great leader.

Oh yah, you want to talk about cowardice? How about hiding in civilian clothes in heavily populated areas for a defense, and then turning around calling foul when innocents die? Those lives are on the terrorists, and they don't care, except to use it to make their enemies look like the bad guy.

Okay, now you've lost me ENTIRELY. The 6th Fleet airstrikes into Lybia took place in April 1986. Pam Am 103 blew up over Lockerbie in December 1988. So, we attacked him because of something he was going to do more than 2 years in the future?
If you are saying that the terrorist attacks at the Rome and Vienna airports by Lybian funded terrorists spurred the U.S. into action, you'd be correct. Economic sanctions were leveied. However, in the airstrikes Chemical Weapons facilities were targets as well as goverment buildings. Gadhafi may have kept research going into Chemical Warfare but his ability to deliver it at long range or disperse it over wide areas was a key target. We didn't want those weapons making their way into the hands of the terrorist groups supported by his regime.
After that fact, Gadhafi began to comply with UN inspection laws. That's where he went a different route than Saddam. In fact, I even feel as if I recall hearing from a representative from Gadhafi that he was urging Saddam to comply.

I live in Virginia, and recently there was a massive oil spot found about 100 or so miles off the coast, but the government wont allow drilling for some unknown reason. Gas is around $2.93 for regular here, and im sure its gonna go up now that a bunch of ports in Lebanon have been blown.

I don't see us EVER having a "stronghold" in Iraq due to insurgencies. We may have a "Garrison" there but to create a fully functional base in an area where it would CONSTANTLY be under attack would be a logistical nightmare.
Loser talk. No permanent bases = no win.
After 9/11, Saudi kicked us out. Osama said leave the Holy Land or else. So we started packing our bags. No choice. 9/11 stung and the unrest in Saudi was destabilising the Regime.
And we did not leave the region.
We didn't leave the region, we went into Iraq. We are still very heavily in the region. The saudi's will not rubber stamp the use of their soil for offensive wars in the area. Training their soldiers isn't the same as having operational airstrips and ports from which we can mount invasions.
Iran has isolated itself with it's idea that being "Persian" and holding it's "different" system of Islamic Beliefs makes it superior. Hence why a lot of the other arabic countries in the Middle East wouldn't weep too long if Iran was gone. Sure, we fostered the unrest there, but that's tactical and not much different that the founding fathers did here in the U.S. for the Revolution.
Iran is not even remotely isolated. Persians (Shia) make up a third of the population of the middle east. Shia communities can be found in a significant percentage of all middle eastern countries.
And yet every country in the world hates it's leaders. Seditious materials are banned in even the most liberal of societies. 60% of Americans don't want George Bush as their leader. How is that for appearances?
Special Forces, a video game that teaches people how to overthrow the Israeli's is banned in both the U.S. and Europe.
Appearance has nothing to do with it. Chavez isn't going to play ball with the U.S. and so just like Saddam, he has to go. Demonising him is just part of the process.
Shall I mention that the U.S. has been fostering revolution in my own country for the last 200 years? Don't even bother to start preaching to me about unhappy citizens and evil dictators and the good of the world. That would fall on extremely deaf ears. You must think I was born yesterday.
.
Kim Jong-il is a great leader. He has led his tiny and poor nation to stand up to the worlds largest super power for 50 years. They have finally reached the stage where the U.S. will have to sign a non aggression pact, and Korea may finally re-unify and gain independance.
First we demonise them, then when we attack them. It used to be called propaganda, now it's called The Media War.

You may get into heaven a little earlier, but you will create a bigger slice of hell on earth for those you leave behind.

Yeah, the tar sands (or sand oil, whichever you prefer)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar_sands
The technology is still fairly new and as such, more expensive. Eventually it will become more viable with cheaper tech and higher overall oil prices. And here's the real kicker (from the Wiki):
Tar sands represent as much as 66% of the world's total reserves of oil, with at least 1.7 trillion barrels in the Canadian Athabasca Tar Sands and 1.8 trillion barrels in the Venezuelan Orinoco tar sands, compared to 1.75 trillion barrels of conventional oil worldwide, most of it in Saudi Arabia and other Middle-Eastern countries.

He is getting away with more than he might otherwise expect.
