Originally posted by Thanatosx33 Ok, my friend perry wears eyeliner. He isn't gay or anything, but if he was it realy isn't relevant to this thread. Well the principal has got on to him in the past for wearing it, saying he can't and stuff. We have a dress code at school, and nowhere does it say that guys, or people can't wear eyeliner. Well, one day I decided I would wear eyeliner. I didn't even know the principal had gotten on to my friend about this before. I just did it for the heck of it. Well anyways, I come to school and the principal calls me over the the teachers table at lunch. He tells me that I can't wear it again. I didn't even think for a second it would be against the dress code. So, I politely responded, without a tone or raising my voice "ok, well...can you tell all of the girls that too?" He and a teacher sitting in front of him begin to mauck me and the female teacher says "what are you going to do wear a dress next?". Remember, I did nothing disrespectful and they are saying this stuff to me? I just said no to this and asked why I can't wear it if girls can. He said its a disruption, and at this point he begins taking an aggresive tone with me. I once again without a tone reply...."well isnt that a little sexist? Saying that girls can and guys can't?" The female teachers starts yelling "Just drop it Robby!" and the principal begins threataning me. He says If i want to "push it" any further that he can suspend me or something like that. So, i just back away and said "Ok, I was just asking a question." Ok, so then perry gets in line for lunch and everyone is talking about how the principal was getting onto me about the eyeliner. Someone tells him to go put it on, because for some reason he wasn't wearing any on this peticular day. So, he goes to the bathroom and a teacher evidentally overhears and goes to tell Mr. Dodge, the principal. Mr. Dodge comes literally stomping down the hallways (hes a very tall man mind you, at least 6 feet.) and starts screaming at perry at the top of his lungs. He comes out, gets in my face and yells "if you wanna make a big issue about this, well make a big issue about this!" (and he pointed his finger one inch away from my face) and then he stomps off. Get this, he calls my parents with the message. "Yeah, I was wanting to talk to you about Robby....We had some trouble at school today, I talked to him about wearing the eyeliner and he practically incited a riot. And I wanted to talk about his hair being in his eyes, teachers want to see his face in class" My parents were enraged at me, they about took away everything I own untill I told them the real story. Its kind of funny, he didnt even say anything to me about my hair being in my eyes. And, this is the first time it was ever in my eyes, and it was only covering one eye. And, I hadn't had any classes with my high school teachers because I go to another school for half the day, come back for lunch, then go to class. So, what he said implied that teachers were complaining about it, when that is impossible. He was trying to exaggerate things, and manipulate my parents against me. Wth is this? Having hair in your eyes isn't even against any rules. Anyways, yesterday they called my friend perry down to the office again, and lecture him about it, and say they can punish him now. Is this fair? Isnt there some sort of constitutional right saying they can't discriminate like this? Well, he was going to have his mom come in and fight for him. But guess what they did? They called his step-dad, who is in another state (hes a crop duster, hes all around the place. And he isnt even perrys legal guardian.) and tell him about it, when they could easily have called his mom. See though, the thing is perrys mom has been in school for many things before, defending perry against teachers harassing him and what not. Well, they call his step dad, and his step dad was infuriated because he believes you should kiss authorities ass. And now hes got his mom turned against him, because he pulls in the money and if she fights for him then the money wont anymore apparently, so she has to keep him happy. Isn't that dirty? the fact they would call his stepdad who is in another state? Now he can't wear eyeliner or anything, his mom just told him to take it off because she doesn't want to deal with this. CAN SCHOOLS DO THIS? CAN THEY DISCRIMINATE LIKE THIS? It's eyeliner for gods sake, and they treat it like its terrorism. What do you all think?
All i can say is fight it, you will sooner or later be allowed what you want. My teacher gave me and this other kid a zero on our tests because i borrowed a pencil from him, I got pissed off told her to go fuck herself and put on some deoderant...i got a 3day suspension for it...but I was allowed to take the test and make up all work for the suspension plus the teacher now wears deoderant. Wear eyeliner every day, you'll get your point accross sooner or later.
I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people

Whats so different about dressing like every other person who thinks they to are "different/unique". Don't give me this different bullshit. If you want to be different these days DRESS NORMAL. Everyone seems to be dressed like an idiot nowadays.
Well, saying "Dress normal" and "dressed like an idiot" doesn't really help paint a picture about what you're getting at.
All I'm saying is, if someone wants to wear eye liner, who the **** cares? Does it really bother people THAT much? It's 2006 people... not 1986.
Get with the program. In another 20 years it might be wearing sneakers or whatever... who cares?!
The mascara isn't the point, the point is that he is making a fuss about a school policy. I went to a private school, and I had to wear a tie everyday, have hair that didn't touch my ears, shave everyday, couldn't smoke during school hours. I bitched at the time, but it breeds maturity and self-discipline. In 20 years this kid will thank me for telling him to wipe that shit off his eyes.

Why don't we all just walk around naked? I mean it is the year 2006, come on!
Seriously, we have to draw the line somewhere. And when you are in a school you dress how the people running that school feel is appropriate, end of discussion. Have a problem with that? Make your own damn school and you can invite all the cross dressers there.

But you knew what you were getting into. It was a PRIAVTE school. I too went to a Roman Catholic school for a long time, and I knew what I had to dress like every day. In a public school, it's different.

I walk around naked, and your point is? There's tons of people all over the world who walk around naked, go to naked beaches, live in naked communites, there's nothing wrong with it. It's natural. Only in the US will people be offended by someone who's naked.

I'm glad someone here feels the same way I do...I'm all for self expression, but school isn't the place for it. You're there to learn, and if spend more than 2 minutes a day picking your clothes out you aren't serious about your job as a student. I've always been a fan of uniforms, or at least strict dress codes, but people like this wouldn't hear of it...even though they are going to school for free.

Ok so it's settled. Want to wear makeup and walk around naked? move somewhere else.
And there are many places besides the states that aren't too fond of naked people in the streets. Like here in Canada.

That's my point. I knew the rules of my school, and I followed them. It seems like I should have more of a say in the way I dress if I shell out $300 a month on top of education taxes. I just can't see where this kid has any right to throw a fit if he's leeching off the economy to go to class for free. As I said earlier, fashion shouldn't even be an issue in a learning environment.

It's not a school policy, he made the rule up on the spot. Policy implies that it has already been established, it was not. He just made it up.
how much do you pay in taxes a yr? divide that between everything that taxs are used for. and realize excatly how much your money goes directly for schools. your also paying for every thing the president does, and the goverment in general. and the odds that your paying for his school is even slimmer just from the shear number of schools out there. so get off your high horse and wake up. im all for uniforms but if a school does not have a policy in place for such items then they really have no right to make him take it off or punish him for it. eyeliner is so much of a normal thing anymore i dont think saying dress normal is really applicable. what is normal to you is not normal to teens. and where you the model student when you where in school? did you ever rebel in some fashion? i bet you did. I bet the only people that the eyeliner distracts in possibly some of the teachers. but even then they shouldnt allow it to. but saying because you pay taxs he has to listen to you is a bunch of bull.

The VP can make up any rule he wants, and it instantly becomes policy. The point of school is to prepare yourself for life and a job...and if you can't wear mascara in any decent job, then I don't see why would even want to wear it at school. Get your head in the right place.
God you people have struck up one of the few issues in the US that really pisses me off. Thanks.

Look i went to catholic school too. You have to realize that the people who are serious about school will do well in school no matter what the dress code. You also had a choice what school you could go to and obviously you chose a private school where there was a uniform. But that was your choice. He chooses to go to a public school where he supposably has the freedom to dress uniquely. You have to realize how fucked up our school systems dress codes are. In my school we're not allowed to wear clothes that have holes in them. I have a single mother who is out of work, all i have are clothes with holes in them, I get sent home frequently beleive me. I"m in all ap courses and i do well in them and no ones clothes bother me.

If I wore eyeliner to school, I would have been beaten up, sent to the office, had the shit wiped off my face, and been given D-Hall. And no, I never rebelled at school, because if I did I got D-Hall. Oh wait, one time I left my top button unbuttoned and got some D-Hall, but it was rebellious as shit. And you may call me a closed-minded asshole all you want, but 88% of my graduating class is in college, I have a full ride to a good university, and he's going to technical school. So yea, my school was run by dickheads, but at least I won't be installing cable modems for Comcast the rest of my life, living in a $500 apartment, and driving an '88 Camry with 225,000 miles.

Your motives for wearing the clothes weren't to be unique, you did it out of necessity. Let's just put it this way, if the kid next to me wore eyeliner, it would distract me, therefore it shouldn't be allowed at school. It's quite simple.

If you get "distracted" by eyeliner you obviously haven't been out in the real world. Go to boston, theres people with ten million peircings, every color hair you can imagine and even more. And schools out there don't give a care, because they live in the REAL WORLD. If you are under the impression I'm some punk, your mistaken. I make pretty decent grades, and consider myself an intellectual. It just people are intimidated by intellectuals that think for themselves, because those are the people who inspire change. And guess what? People are scared of change. 20 years ago I think it was women couldn't wear blue jeans, guess what? Someone fought that and look now? I guess that means in twenty years all guys will be wearing eyeliner, lol :P

God you people have struck up one of the few issues in the US that really pisses me off. Thanks.
Yeah, I am leeching your tax money, but its ok because it all evens out. You wanna know how? Because your generation is gonna suck up the last bit of social security out there so me and my peers wont have any when we're your age. And you know what? WERE STILL GOING TO PAY TAXES!
I'm only 3 years ahead of you buddy. So no, it won't even out. Sorry.
Forgive me, I figured you were older because of the way you were acting, heh. Sounds like something a 40-50 year old would say.

All I'm saying is, if someone wants to wear eye liner, who the **** cares? Does it really bother people THAT much? It's 2006 people... not 1986. Get with the program. In another 20 years it might be wearing sneakers or whatever... who cares?!
Your motives for wearing the clothes weren't to be unique, you did it out of necessity. Why do you people feel it is so important to express yourselves in a place where fashion should be the last of your concerns?
You're right...maybe I should leave this box. Actually, I'm aiming a little higher than white trash, so I won't see any of that shit in the job I have, the circle I surround myself with, or the social venues I attend. I'm sorry, but the majority of successful people don't have 10 million piercings...mainly because jobs of any prestige have about 5000 other resumes to choose from, and when you show up to your interview in mascara and pierced ears, they'll laugh you out the door.
Just keep shooting low, man. I'll call you when my toilet gets clogged.

He's making the decsion of what he does with his future and so do you, being closed minded is not a good thing, and besides grades in high school have no true meaning of what is learned and hardly prepares you for life. I know many descent jobs that have no care on what you where as long as its clothing and not showing everything off. you dont need college to make descent money either or have a good job. thats just a myth. even colleges get money from taxs as do most private schools its no where near the amount of public schools but they still get aid in some fashion. as far as the if the vp makes a rule it becomes policy, that is untrue it has to go to the school board and passed before their ruling body before it becomes policy, they are the top of the food chain in public schools, they are the ones who can overturn rulings set by the vp or principle. im glad your got a full ride and are going to college but dont stifle some one else because you where. I know people who have gone to college as well who end up working at comcast and doing what you say. it all depends on what you study and what the demand is when you get out. so good luck.

Now in junior high, when they made Tammy Braddock stop wearing that pink halter top that was showing off her prematurely ample bosom -- now THEN, I was outraged. But you and eyeliner ... meh.
You learned that there are people in authority who will tell you to do things you don't want to do. Wow, alert the media.

I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people
Well, saying "Dress normal" and "dressed like an idiot" doesn't really help paint a picture about what you're getting at.

Your motives for wearing the clothes weren't to be unique, you did it out of necessity.
Why do you people feel it is so important to express yourselves in a place where fashion should be the last of your concerns?
It's not a school policy, he made the rule up on the spot. Policy implies that it has already been established, it was not. He just made it up.
Seriously, we have to draw the line somewhere. And when you are in a school you dress how the people running that school feel is appropriate, end of discussion. Have a problem with that? Make your own damn school and you can invite all the cross dressers there.

No, you'll call me when your computers broke. Its funny tho, because ill just give you the same response every hardware person gives a customer they dont like....software problem, then I'll connect you to someone else. Then youll go through that for a few hours on the phone untill you can actually get someone to do something about it.
Just listen to Modjoe, he actually knows what hes talkign about. it's for your own good.
EDIT: and don't think your empty threats will actually do anything. The job you just mentioned isn't much higher up then a plumber.
